凤栖梧_江甯 (Feng Xiwu Jiang Ning)

A female dart leader disguised as a man picked up a scholar during a mission. She did not recognize that the scholar was her fiance whom she thought was dead. The female dart leader was the daughter of destroyed Lin family of military generals. And her younger brother was the ninth prince who was supposed to be killed at the age of 5. After 5 years MC, ML and the little prince along with many others embark on a journey of revenge, conspiracy and above all love for the people. There are enemies inside and outside the country. But Lin Lingyi as the Great General is not to be underestimated. 

名门闺杀 (Prestigious Lady and the Assassin)

Wang Sanniang, who lost her unfavoured mother, is clever and survives in the Wang house through her clever schemes all the while protecting her brother. On the way she meets ML with whom she has a friendly relationship. 

 If you've read 春江花月 (Spring River in the Flowery Moonlight), the author has a similar story that's just as good. It's called 表妹万福 (Greetings, Biaomei)

FL is from a rich merchant family, and her mother is the daughter of a duke. In her past life, she married her second biao brother. He gave her to the emperor, who had fallen in love with her at first sight. She tried to ask help from her eldest biao brother (ML), who did help her, but she still eventually ended up in the emperor's clutches. In the palace, as she was already married to someone else, she wasn't given any status or power, and survived merely on the emperor's favor. As the emperor was dying, he asked her to be buried with him, to which she complied. She was then reborn just before she was to be married and schemed to escape from the engagement. In this new life, she somehow crossed paths with the past life's emperor, who was currently still the heir to a vassal prince, but he still fell in love with her at first sight and tried to seize her using shady means. To escape from his grasp, she sought shelter from her eldest biao brother, as he also had considerable influence and was able to repel the other man away... There are several twists along the way, and it gets pretty political. Happy ending with minimal angst.

菩珠 (Bo Zhu)

Empress( Bo Zhu) who was guarding the overthrown emperor's tomb is killed. She is reborn to before she reached capital. She was grand daughter of a criminal minister (with parents and grand parents dead) exiled to the border town of Hexi at the age of 8. Now 16 she is called back to the capital after her grandfather declared free of guilt. But unlike her first life she is married to her ex husband's uncle this time. This uncle( Qin Wang) was the final winner of games of throne in her first life. Bo Zhu's dream is to be queen, then fill her husband's harem with beauties so that he will die early and then be the Empress Dowager. Only this way can she be master of her own destiny. Unfortunately the current Qin Wang has no plan to usurp the throne. This is a novel of two individuals realising that their destiny is different from what they want.

No harem, no tragedy . Angst, yes but in backstories.

4. 嫁个纨绔来调教-嫁纨绔 (Marry a Dandy to Train)

One of the best political intrigue. Both male and female MCs are clever but not without a bottomline. The novel is about Gu jiusi's transformation from a famous dandy to a man who is ready to die for the people and bring back peace to the country. It is also about Liu Yuru's transformation from a girl who plans a marriage with a scholar to escape from her fate to a woman who decides her own fate and to a person who would rather die in the Yellow river than let a dam breach kill millions. The novel is also about how people become who they hate but can be reverted back using perseverance and dedication. 

2. 我给男主当嫂嫂( I am the Sister-in-law of the Male Lead)

An orphan girl is brought in as a substitute for the eloped daughter of a noble family. She is made to vacate her position when the original daughter came back. She is made to be marry previous emperor's only son who is in coma. The prince is said to be a mentally unstable person every time he gains consciousness. On her wedding day she discovers that she has a life saving debt with the unconscious prince.  The political intrigue isn't as heavy as the previous ones but nevertheless enjoyable. 

1. 忠仆之妻 (Loyal Servant's Wife)

From same author as My Daughter Was my Sworn Enemy. Here FL's husband was a loyal man of a prince. He was killed while saving the future princess. Later on FL,  her son and mother in law suffers a lot,  become impoverished and dies. When she is reborn she tries to prevent her husband from going to work for the prince and threatens him that she will remarry if he dies. But she can't prevent fate from dragging them into the vortex of power struggle. Really an enjoyable read.

Brilliant political intrigue in ancient china.

丹阳县主_闻檀- Princess Danyang

She was reborn as a daughter of a shu son, away from capital. She tries to utilize every opportunity to rise up again. However the person whom she liked turned out to be her rival in the past life,  Jing Wang. At the same time, she realized that her shu born brother whom she was cultivating turned out to be eldest grandson of the previous emperor.
