The Masculine Collection Of Manly Legends For Epic Men (WIP)

The Masculine Collection Of Manly Legends For Epic Men (WIP)
All men beware! The effeminate main characters have invaded our masculine paradises. This list is the start of my attempts to help readers discover good, mostly mature, and masculine male protagonists. Only stories about the manliest, yet well-written male main characters may be found here.

The best of all stories which embody the strengths of the Masculine Heavenly Dao and reject the weaknesses of femininity and indecisiveness will be placed in this list.

Join me brothers in this most profound path so that we may seek enlightenment and cast off the shackles that bind our true masculine selves!

Composed by the author known as "I Eat Tomatoes". This author does a wonderful job at writing the journeys of boys all the way through manhood. I believe the author was a mathematician of some sort and it shows in his story telling style. Coiling Dragon is his greatest work but everything he has written is worth a try.... more>>

This is an epic tale of a reincarnated man, with a cheat ability, who resolves to waste his new life in pleasure. However, the world has a dark and deadly conspiracy that forces Lu Sheng to continue to increase his strength and exercise great cunning, or otherwise lose all that he loves. This is an early web novel that I read just as the average quality of Japanese storytelling took a steep dive. It follows the life of a reincarnated NEET of a man from infant-hood to manhood. He embraces his new life with amazing focus as he grows to manhood (again), taking on the burdens of life and responsibility to his loved ones that only a true man can do. Furthermore, there are very few Japanese harems that are as reasonable as the one he eventually collects even with the silly Japanese cliches.... more>>

This was one of the first web novels that I have read. The MC is highly devoted to his family, he perseveres through many hardships and difficulties to end up on top, and he is dedicated to his profession and crafts. All of these features show that Lee Hyun is a truly manly man. His only issue in regards to manliness is his cluelessness in romance being only slightly better than most shounen protagonists.... more>>

Another do-over story where the MC uses his future knowledge to once again rise to the top of the universe but this time with less mistakes made. I really enjoyed reading about how the MC, Nie Li, would try to avoid almost certain disaster and turn tragedy into blessing in his second chance at life. He is confident and rightly so, but he still exercises filial piety and loyalty to his friends and lovers. He shares power with his bros and helps all those who care for him to rise with him.... more>>

IET really isn't as great as you claim him to be. Sure, CD was great, but his other novels (with a notable exception of Swqallowed Star) are pretty generic. His main strength, I'd say, is being an author with some morals i.e. no Harems. Biggest weakness is the ridiculous measurements, MC runs at 10,000,000 km/s, leaps over a quadrillion miles and sahes his sword with a force of 10^19 times G-Force

I agree that the scale and physics were pretty unrealistic. However, the fantastical elements are in line with xianxia (high fantasy) and effectively tickle the imagination for the reader.

I even agree that the novels are quite generic. The three novels on the list are the only ones that I could happily finish. Still, I have never enjoyed more xuanhuan stories from a single Asian author. I and many others were exposed to the genre through IET. So, nostalgia will definitely play a big part in my rating of his stories. I find IET to be similar to J.K. Rowling for xuanhuan when considering the above characteristics.

I also agree that the morals he infuses into his stories are a strength. Though, I also very much liked his story telling style. For example, in CD, more than the others, it felt orderly and well structured (possible mathematics influence on his logical thinking?) with most scenes having relevance to the plot somewhere down the line. I find that, often times, authors in this genre will forget some of the plot trains they start or they will have little relevance in the grand scheme. Whereas IET seemed to avoid this, from what I can remember.

If you enjoy the characters having morals, but are okay with harems. I would strongly suggest Castle of Black Iron. It's quite wholesome with it's 'harem' and not some everexpanding shit. However, I will say that there is some pretty damn heavy chinese propaganda at one point.

I have read many stories of the years.  Novel Updates hadn't existed during my early years, and I have since been hesitant to engage with the community.  Still, this has proven to be a good platform for discovering new stories and revisiting old ones.  So I have decided jump on board. I hope to add more stories to this list as I rediscover them.

Feel free to offer suggestions. However, please note that very few characters and stories embody what I consider to be sufficient masculinity to be included in this list.

    Happy reading!

@Kurox I have. I couldn't finish it unlike the others on this list. It has been several years since I had read it and so I picked it up again recently in order to evaluate its place on this list. However, I had trouble reading beyond the first arc. Some of the more well reasoned reviews of it are in line with my thoughts on the story. I have been considering pushing on to a few hundred more chapters though, as it has a great rating and is a pretty good candidate for this list.
