When I read the summary, I thought it was some black belly ML chasing after MC kind of story. But this is Wu Zhe, one of my all-time favourite authors. Their specialty is in touching and realistic plotlines, and it shines in this story. This is truly a coming-of-age story that follows the characters literally from their childhood to their early adulthood.

Pros: The characters are well fleshed out; the issues and struggles are heart wrenching.

Cons: Perhaps because I had a misconception at the beginning on what kind of story... more>> it was, the pacing was slower than I expected. Don't expect much romance till the last 5% of the story.

The characters, as expected of Wu Zhe, are the stars of the book. Even the side characters have impact in the story but beware of angst:

especially the impact of characters like Xiao Fei Ge who exit early (keep your tissues close) but have lasting effect on the main characters in their journey and finding themselves especially for FYF.

Forgot to mention, I don't think it's explicitly mentioned but the book setting seems to be set some time in the past (not sure which era).

In the beginning, they lived in a communal place with shared toilet and kitchen. And it seems like things such as cars were considered very luxurious. And it wasn't until much later that they even considered getting a family computer. I mean, definitely not the same era I grew up in but I would hedge a guess to the 80s or 90s? I have no idea.

not that bad since it spans only a small portion towards the end. There's a long struggle especially between the main characters because of the taboo-ness since they are adopted brothers. But the familial love in the family unit is always strong in the book.

But just know this book has one of the best parents in BL ever.

Overall, this was a good read that isn't very long (under 100!). <<less

Whenever I finish reading Wu Zhe's novel, I always feel some sort of emptiness. Probably it's due to missing the characters after knowing their happy ending, and wishing they exist in real life and living a good life.

Pseudoin*est may not be everyone's cup of tea but I hope readers will give this a chance. The novel deals with the complexity of self-discovery and homosexuality in such a tender way; tenderness that hurts you the most.

Wu Zhe is the type of writer who makes you want to pluck the characters... more>> out of the book, wrap them in soft blankets, and cherish them in your heart forever. <<less

I like these type of novels where they grow up together. I love MC’s innocent curiosity, quick temper, and decisiveness. ML is a wild free spirit, hardworking, and restraint. It’s a good read.

This novel is similar to “The Spring of Prince Syndrome” and “Ferocious Dog Of Old” another two amazing BL novel.

This is so good. I love how it ended. The story's pacing, its life lessons and characters' interactions are all good. I also love the side couples! Actually want them to have their stories.

I cried reading the extra chapter of Zhang Qingkai 😭 Xia Fei and his story is surely what made this even more beautiful.

It's been awhile since I've binge read a novel, this is highly recommended!

I loved every minute of their journey. I cried and laughed, I hurt and healed... can’t wait to read it again. The translation is awesome too!
