A really annoying read. I came hoping for a nice romance comedy but the story is just wayyy too ret*rded for my liking. The translations are good, so there's a silver lining. However, the story itself leaves much to be desired.

For one, the female lead is really unlikable. I get that they're trying to go for tsundere vibes but she's just mean. Let me give you an example.

FMC: You're gross. I don't want you near my sister. Don't come close to me.

MC: Okay, it seems like you don't like me... more>> so I'll keep my distance.

FMC: *Shocked Pikachu Face*

Like seriously! After treating the MC like sh*t for two and a half years and showing no signs of interest in him, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? Then there's the sister thing. FMC didn't bring MC to see the sister once even though she'd known him the longest. But one day after knowing some new friends, she brings all of them over INCLUDING AN IKEMEN, and then gets angry at the MC for not coming to her house.

It's like, normally, you root for the MC to get together with the FMC but in this case, I just want him to find a better girl. Also, everyone is always putting him down and are always taking the FMC side.

Besides, the MC isn't that bad of a character. He's earnest, good at doing work and is always true to his desires. Which makes you want to root for him. But when the FMC is that intolerable, I always click on the next chapter praying that a new girl will steal his heart.

3/5 for now. I hope that the FMC will become better in the latter chapters but based on the MTL I'd read... It's highly unlikely. <<less

Can I give this six stars? It's writing quality is in higher ranks of LN romcoms on this site, and trust me, I've read most of the sh*t out there.

Beginning can be quite sad, when MC realizes how bad his behavior was, but it recoils very quickly when MC starts interacting with other people and shows his skills. Development is quite natural, without obnoxiously magical events like saving from delinquents, forgotten childhood friends, dead parents (yeah! All are alive and present in their life), bullying, and other cliche events... more>> that are used to move plot forward. All on high-school level.

I don't mind FMC behavior, at the beginning she behaves this way because she's overwhelmed by MC. Later we see that she's quite naive, sheltered girl that clearly don't understand her feelings.

On technical side, writing is also good, characters don't have strange traits, don't behave like adults, humor is on mature level, lot's of situational jokes that hit very hard. Pacing is okay, volumes are short, and there is a lot happening. My only complaint is that in certain dialogues I don't know which line is whose.

P.S. One stars are from harem-isekai readers, so please don't look at them. They never met heroine that isn't immediately wet on hero sight so they are confused.

--vol7

I must say I'm impressed with how mature this novel is, with this whole love talk I feel like author is bashing whole rom-com genre. <<less

This is just plain sad, they kinda want to make it humourous but its actually prerty depressing most jokes of MC are just self depreciating and the fMC is tr*sh, I don't even want her to be here, MC rather be with the tomboyish friend of supposedly fMC, but MC himself is a masochist and wants tto be stepped upon/ treated as insect by fMC, It is supposed to be funny but I just find it very annoying and sad...i hope to find this get better later atleast..... but looking... more>> at the title and the synopsis which has said that tsun bit*h is the fMC... the chances of what I want to happen are close to none. Also MC gets used by everyone around him including his sister.. Who's supposed to be his blood related sis... but she also treats him like tr*sh.. the most annoying thing is fMC, who doesn't miss MC for his love but instead just a narcissistic bich who misses him fawning all over her... She just wants to be treated as some goddess... but the way I see it she's tr*sh, the MC is depressing who lacks self confidence sm that when a girl is saying something... he just straight up apologizes first thing out of his mouth...

Also the only best girl is fMC s frend, that tomboy I said before, she's the only one who treats him good but our ret*rded MC doesn't care about her, instead wants to be fMC pet, in not even exaggerating he himself says that he wants to be her pet

Some dialogues ti get insides-

It's true that I gave up on a lot of things. However, that's not because you or Mom forced me to do that. I just saw my shitty face in the mirror, and realized what kind of idiot I was, that's all."

It's pathetic of me to say that, but that's reality. This incident happened to remind me of that fact. I don't see any reason for Big Sis to be bothered by that, and I don't need any worrying from her.

Or

A goddess? An angel? No, she's a goddess. What kind of cute reaction is that. What am I supposed to do here? Draw circles three times and bark? I'll do that. I can even pay you money? <<less

This story is pretty depressing the MC is pretty broken due to him being belittled constantly by the FMC and even his own family the saying ''the face only a Mother could love" does not apply here. The author tries to be humorous but when you keep the MC's inferiority complex in mind it doesn't feel funny but only feels sad cause most of the jokes are either self deppreciateing or are done at the expense of MC

Spoiler

I feel like the FMC's friend is better for MC and they talk a lot too after their seating arrangement changed

[collapse]

We don't know how the fMC really feels about our MC cause it feels like he is how to put it 'masochist-zoned/insect-zoned' cause the FMC misses berating him and him not worshiping her every minute.

I hope going in the future the MC looks after himself more and stops chasing the FMC for now cause all I see is 'Tsun' but no dere. <<less

What you have here is a story of a simp, losing the confidence to chase the tsundere love interest after being rejected many times. It can be quite sad seeing the MC be so self deprecating, plus the fact that he doesn’t seem to mind the main love interest’s abuse. Let’s hope that the main love interest can redeem herself and become likable or that MC finds another girl that can appreciate him.

The potential is there. It is well written and the translation is top notch, I'll give it that. Character interactions are pretty good and the humour usually lands.

But the problem-the main problem I have with this novel- is that it uses the MC's trauma for comedy... while doing nothing else with it. And even then, at the expense of the MC who instead of "turning Realist", just has some broken confidence and no self-steem left, and yet when you think the story might tackle his very serious problems... well, seriously,... more>> they are used as an excuse for the usual rom-com shennaningans and nothing else.

If anything, FMC is damn dumb and unlikable for most of the story (started getting a bit better but it took too damn long), his sister is the worst character I've read in a long while, tomboy girl who should play a supporting role for the main couple is just there for yuri fanservice, and every other female character feels pointless because MC is still a damn simp for the FMC even after the synopsis makes you want to believe otherwise...

And worst of all is that MC while being treated like a sub-human and a s*ave from the girls around him... does absolutely nothing to change that and just accepts everything thrown at him while maybe grumbling a bit on the inside at best and actually enjoying it at worst. It's totally infuriating and I would only recommend this novel to an actual masochist like the protagonist, because I can't see myself enjoying just reading that kind of treatement AT ALL as most female characters here are selfish tsunderes without the deres and any hope of him growing a pair and getting it on with the few who are actually likeable is nonexistent by v5, in which he gets tangled up in a s*upid nonsensical plot out of nowhere, where he knows he's being taken advantage off and still plays along like the s*upid simp he is.

So yeah, I normally would be sad I caught up with the release, but I'll gladly drop this now that I have the chance. <<less

I liked the plot in the beginning but I just got depressed after reading it. MC is treated like tr*sh by everyone around him, even his mom and sister just insult him and treat him like garbage. I feel bad for him and legitimately only want this guy to get over his inferiority complex instead of getting together with this toxic FMC.

I've read some of the chapters in Webnovel. The start maybe confusing or maybe even boring to some people but the plot after that is something which is good and deep.

When I first started reading this novel I was enjoying the MCs different outlook and looking forward to how the story develops. But as the other above me have said, they really are adding and focusing waaaay too much on these side characters and it takes away from the main storyline which is upsetting. Hoping it improves from here on out.

I don't know whose worse, the MC or the FMC.

It's impressive having such a dislikeable FMC. I really wanted to like this series because I love the premise of an MC moving on after being rejected, but my god. He is annoyingly s*upid

I'm done with this. I couldn't stand this anymore. I like the plot at first but now, I only see how unrealistic thing going (it's from light novel though) and it's too much. The way FMC and MC's family did to the MC always harsh and the worst. I hate that no matter that the others do to the MC, he still root for FMC and apologize to other. Why? Are you even human? Not being angry and want other to treat you badly? FMC and MC's big sis are... more>> just being toxic. The FMC isn't tsundere, just the girl that want MC attention. And when the MC keep the distance. She was being unreasonable <<less

It starts out a bit slow and tragic, but it's written amazingly well. The characters are interesting and mostly realistic in how they behave and interact with another. The tone and mood also lighten up a little once the initial impression of the MC's inferiority complex has been made properly. And although he isn't ugly, it's not a simple twist like "he was an ikemen all along and the problem was only in his mind" either.

While more characters are introduced over time, they don't immediately form a harem like in... more>> many similar novels, and the story mainly focuses on the main romance. Other prospects and flags come up, but their development is even slower than the main romance and is occasionally shut down by the MC's devotion to the main heroine.

But again, in a realistic way, he does see others as potential romantic interests since he has given up on his crush. He ends up telling himself that these are delusions as well, but it's not impossible for those developments to happen eventually.

And all that talk about how realistic the characters are doesn't do any justice to how adorable some of the heroines are on occasion, regardless of how much time they need to understand their emotions.

If you're frustrated by a slow paced story, this may not be for you, as the conclusion still isn't anywhere in sight after 4 volumes. But if you can enjoy reading about a romance slowly unfolding after suddenly shifting from "push" to "pull", I highly recommend reading this novel. <<less

Possibly the best school life romance when it comes to angst and unrequited love. Even though there are unrealistic and inconsistent depictions when it comes to characters they way that MC questions his self worth and his unrequited love at times is so visceral and gut punching you'd find it hard to not to sympathize with him.

There are no flawless characters. Everyone has their faults and the story tells you even when you do all the things you were supposed to do you won't necesssarily succeed in what you want... more>> to achieve. But still you can take what you've learned and use it to get to greener pastures which is something that's currently lacking in story because MC is still idolizing the FMC instead of moving on altogether. Though the current dynamic is being used as the comedic undertone of the story so I get why it's being written this way. That and it's a way to prolong the story of course. As for a summary,

Spoiler

Wataru:Our dreaming boy MC, due to his family constantly negging him even as a kid he was trying to find his place in the world. That led to him acting like a class clown in school just so he can mask his self assured inadequeteness. After a brief encounter with his goddess who champions him against some rude students he ties his worthiness to gaining Aika's favor. Which leads to him obsessing over her and acting like her manservant even up to this volume. The inconsistency of this character lies in the fact that when it comes to intrapersonal relationships he is actually way too competent to fail to notice how people around him feels. You can clearly see it when he drops the clown charade and gets serious just like he did with Sasaki in the latest volume. He should either try to get Aika actually open up to him emotionally so he can resolve their complicated relationship or completely remove himself from the equation so he can move on. This inadvertant push and pull game he's doing is working wonders against Aika but she's too timid to actually take a step forward and Wataru is acting too clueless which leaves them in the limbo.

Aika:A sheltered girl who is smart enough to excel academically but also dumb enough to not to notice how other people feels about her. You can see it in her monologues how she's always surprised when people pay attenion to her the most and waives it off as if it has nothing to do with how attractive she is. Since she is this emotionally immature you can understand why she shut down Wataru since the unknown can be scary but for a smart girl like her you'd think she'd have some introspection on what she actually feels after almost 2 years of getting chased by him. But no, she completely dances around the topic and tries to pull back Wataru whenever he starts pulling away.

Kei:Aika's best and probably only actual friend. It's kinda surprising how she's been called best girl for Wataru when actually she doesn't really care about him. All she does is in favor of Aika. Like she manipulates Wataru from breaking away in the beginning by accusing him of isolating Aika which is kinda fair but after half a year and reinstating Aika with her classmates she still tries to bind Wataru because Aika needs her emotional pillar. Not giving a f*ck about how he feels. She's only in the story so Aika doesn't have to take agency when it comes to Wataru.

Kaede:aka gorilla sis, possibly the cause of Wataru's self esteem issues along with her mother. I have 2 sisters and while we do tease each other a lot it's never in a malicious way like it's shown here. Violent tsundere sister is really not working author. I don't like her character even if she's mellowed out after the rooftop match.

[collapse]

I could write more but it's getting way to long for a review so i'll refrain from doing so. All and all despite it's shortcomings and author's way of prolonging the story I still wait for it ever excitedly even after 8 volumes, which should tell you how impressive the storytelling is. <<less

I think I hate his family more than anyone else. Leave everyone else aside how can his own family put him down like that. The way they resolved it is annoying too. The MC atleast needs to do something in which in can take pride in, it's just very depressing to read otherwise.

Damn it.. the story was good till the ending of vol 2.. but from then the author keeps introducing new characters... also they all somehow got a crush on MC.. it's annoying.. seriously.. main character development is sloowww.. but side characters development is fast..I mean super fast.. you can think that 7 / 10 chapters of a vol are for side characters... author please focus on main character development..

Whenever I see comments about this LN (or its manga), I see very flustered people who seem to only see the superficial of everything. I'll list a few points that I think demonstrate this:

Spoiler

MC (Wataru) : Everyone seems to think that the protagonist is a big victim who is deceived and mistreated by everyone, including his family. What I disagree. The MC is a clown-type character, so he makes jokes and says absurd things (you must have met people like that), so he usually has a teasing relationship with everyone. And he is also to blame for the current scenario, since he was practically an FMC stalker and walked away from her without saying anything. His attitude towards FMC was insane, if you saw someone like that you would definitely find it creepy and rightly so.

FMC (Aika) : Aika has a very interesting development, where along the way she gets better and it's explained why she is the way she is. I see people think that she is a demon who always treats the protagonist like garbage, which I disagree with. She really sucks in volume 1 and the beginning of 2, as she's completely confused by what's going on and doesn't understand anything. For FMC (and everyone who knows them), MC was part of her group and rejecting her confessions was part of a routine, as if it were all a joke. Yes, she was insensitive and didn't take him seriously, but she didn't do it out of malice, but because she didn't understand anything. And after volume 2, apart from when the MC embarrasses her, she is almost always kind and cares about him, and takes the initiative to talk, so it's not like she treats him badly all the time, it's the opposite.

Sister (Kaede) : Another character that everyone thinks is a demon and I disagree. Her relationship with the MC is pretty normal for teenage siblings I'd say (must have more background, as vol 8 indicates), unlike people who say it's toxic. It's normal to fight with your sisters (I have 3 sisters) and it's normal for the oldest to boss the youngest. Kaede since volume 1 despite being tough with the MC, she is always worried about him, so much so that everything she did at school was because of him. She has anarchist tendencies and is very difficult to open up to, which causes problems, but even so, she always tries to take care of him, and this is shown from the beginning.

[collapse]

Well, those are the main points. In short, all the characters have internal issues that cause a lot of problems and everyone is evolving. The protagonist is pretty cool, but he's not an absolute victim.

I don't know if this work touches the emotional wounds of some readers, but it always seems that people get very nervous reading it and don't think deeply about things.

If you've already read it, let me know what you think about the points I raised. <<less

i thought this story is about a boy who stop simping, find other girls, and move on with his life, but then the girls he simp before start realizing her feeling for him, and she start a love triangle or whatever, and the boy become confuse about her.

but no

it's just about a boy who openly simping before then start simping secretly after he realize he's a patethic loser.

it's suck, and the MC monologue is insane, I can't even understand what's going on with his random monologue which jump from one... more>> thing to another in rapid succession. <<less

This story started off all right. The protagonist's change in attitude, while sudden, is reasonable enough after constant rejections. The problem is that the pace is abysmally slow. Five volumes in, the heroine still has yet to admit even to herself that she likes him. It takes tsundere a little too far and makes her just seem dumb. The story also loses its focus. The first volume is alright but after that more and more side characters start getting involved while the main couple gets less and less screentime together.... more>> It's obvious that the author is just padding the length of the story. It would have worked better as a three volume story with faster pacing.

Update after reading up to volume 7:

There was a little bit of progress in volume 6, which is a good sign that eventually the series' main plot will start moving, but it's been pretty static in volume 7 so it still remains to be seen whether the author will commit. <<less

so this is my thought of the LN

first and foremost SHINOMIYA/ASHIDA would be better for MC than the bit*h FMC

the story is somewhat mediocre and the FMC is not a f***ing tsundere she's a narcissist who craves MC's attention, there's a lot of side characters and their development is way to fast than a bullet train. The MC is a simp and M who want to be abused by the FMC

the sad part is that he dont have much confidence in himself and self worth. His sister is also kinda... more>> awful she just makes him an errand boy than an actual brother <<less
