BDD created a script for JL so they could both act the part of innocent cat parents when they took mimi in for neutering. I love anything with cats. The way BDD started going over to JL's place for food was like another story, Rice Pot. Love it when the male cooks well! The interaction of BDD and JL's mom and how she got her trained. The final case where the employees repaid the employer's kindness with understanding.

ML’s best friend says the FL was her mentor’s ex girlfriend and was dumped by him to make way for this new girl. I’m sorry. But what? With the mentor being their hated person as he was the lawyer who screwed the ML’s family over with malicious practice that lead to ML’s father’s death, they should’ve known his personal life more. As shown with ML’s paranoia in investigating the first client FL represented against the ML, he’s more than capable of finding things out. How could they not know about the mentor’s dead fiancée and that the white lotus looks like her. Just based on the fact that the mentor had a close relationship with FL and the bad rumors spread from her old job, MLs best friend assume they’re exes.

What kind of gap in knowledge is that as lawyers? They just believe what they hear and don’t investigate properly on their own and keep spreading the false narrative? Ironic isn’t that ML already pointed out that one rumor going around FL and ML was not factual in the slandering email the white lotus. I can excuse him from being insecure so he’s buying into the rumors and doesn’t dare to hear that they’ve gotten back together. He also admonished those girls for buying into gossip but buys into his friends nonsense self directed drama. He’s not the in the state to think very clearly. ML’s best friend on the other hand keeps assuming things with his imagination, like that they’re getting back together and how she must be going back to work with her mentor since they’ve reconciled. He wonders how he can properly fire her if she does get back together with her mentor. WHEN THEY NEVER ACTUALLY DATED!

That’s such poor professionalism. As bosses it’s not crossing the line to ask their employee about possible conflicts of interest. So they could’ve just asked point blank if she had any intentions to go back to work for her mentor. If she said no, which is what she decided, they could’ve brought up the concern for those dating being opponents in the court room. These are all valid questions to ask rather than making all these conjectures in his own mind only to make the ML feel uncomfortable.

I get it’s a plot pushing misunderstanding to get the ML to understand his feelings for the FL more quickly but it’s such a cheap writing point. The FL at one point even realized he had this misunderstanding but got distracted before she could clarify. That pissed me off so badly. This misunderstanding just keeps getting drawn out that I spent more time pissed about the best friend gossiping and in a way slandering her then I could enjoy their slow burn. Their own traumas and lack of experience is enough for the slow burn. A misunderstanding that spans more than half the novel only serves to piss me off. It just doesn’t make sense as lawyers for them not the grasp the basic - don’t believe what you hear. It’s so dumb that I can’t even enjoy them getting closer, then hurt and repeat. I wish I could cut off the best friends tongue bc he talks too much nonsense. They’re lawyers and get can’t grasp a basic like find out the truth from the source and not to believe rumors.
