Bai Duanduan fell in love at first sight with a man in the long queue outside the restaurant. He had bushy brows and cold expressionless face and even the slightest frown made him look like the most handsome god from the heaven.

She decided to take the initiative, and when confronted with her request to exchange numbers, the other man gave a charming smile, and then –

[Hate my mobile phone, it's 5 stars!!!]

A light novel that brings up serious issues (mainly about the struggles of women in the labor market). What I liked was, firstly, the lack of toxicity in their relationship, they got to know each other in a normal way, and learn to understand the opposite point of view, and secondly it more or less give us hints about how the labor law in China works. Definitely this is a Josemi novel without s*upid cliches.

The rating is to be honest too low for reader's own good. This novel deserves at least 4.3 star.

Both ML and FL are capable lawyers specialized at labor disputes. I don't know how believable this story is from Law viewpoint, but I did witness similar problems (although less severe) happened in my workplace. So it's easy for me to relate.

Bai Duanduan (FL) is totally the heart of this story. King-kong power inside goddess appearance is only her initial charm. Her biggest charm lays on the fact that her brain is... more>> sharp, her mouth is eloquent, and her heart holds strong moral compass. She bravely stands up to protect the weak and to change society for the better, even if it means she has to go against public opinion. She is also not easily swayed by others, because she trusts her own judgement. Sounds Mary Sue? In my review, yes. But actually no. She does her things in eandering way that it is hard not to love her.

As for Ji Lin (ML)... I like him because he is not one dimensional, not overpower, not too good to be true. Tall, rich, and handsome doesn't make him automatically flocked by butterflies. He is so otherworldly stingy, indifferent and merciless on the negotiation table, that women in the circle will get disillusioned quickly. As BDD gets to know the real him, though, it is revealed that he is a mangosteen: hard rock outside, juicy and fluffy inside. Between him and FL, actually he is the one who bears more cost lol. I am satisfied witnessing how hard the mighty falls.

Although romantic plot has way lesser portion than legal plot, I still appreciate the way it unfolds. I always love gradual love on ML part and the lack of romance is compensated with mini extras on each chapter. <<less

At first I was apprehensive about this novel.. The first 20 chapters for me were rough. The ML, lets just say has a very eccentric character, so much so that I strongly disliked him. I also disliked the FMC's work conditions. However after bearing those 20 chapters I am so happy with the rest of the novel. It slowly unravels the behaviors of all the characters and tells a compelling tale. I fell in love with our main couple and their way of getting together. Ive been into in lawyer-romance theme plot recently. This is definitely one of my favourite. Definitely deserve much more recognition despite its low rating, dont be discourage!!

i love both FL & ML and their cats!! Everything will be explain later in the story, if u wondering why the MCs have this type of personality (not in the bad way), what they became now have the reasons. They are such a powerful-cute couple! Ugh im not good with review tbh, this is my 2nd review to a cnovel after 2yrs lol... more>> bcs I know I spout a 'not-convincing' review BUT this story deserve more & what I can say, just give it a go okay. <<less

Not my style of smart woman. The novel said that FL was a brilliant lawyer but never show any successful case, she fail terribly in every cases. FL doing things recklessly, even when she resigned from the law firm, she made herself a weak point that the enemy can use against her later. Other reviews said this is the interesting and fun legal novel but I cannot find it, so I dropped.

This made me want to pursue law. Lol Both leads are really capable and the flow of the story is good.

I understood the logic of the author especially the cases she presented. And it seems like she’s a lawyer too.

Too bad, kinda want to have an extra where the baby’s grow up would be written. Lol

Enjoyed this story a lot! Highly recommended if you like the enemies to lovers trope. Or, enemies to reluctant friends/allies to lovers. So so cute!

Initially when I read it I was wondering how ML would fall in love with the FL and chase her when they had such a rocky start due to ML's brash personality (to others). The journey is WORTH IT. It is so sweet and amazing and so fun to read.

FL is a tough cookie, she's really strong physically and also mentally. She's the upbeat cheerful and... more>> also intelligent lady who has a strong mental fortitude and heart. She knows what she fights for, and she preserves her bottom line. I really admire her character. Anyway, the story goes like this: FL sees ML for the first time and falls in love with his face.

She thinks, wow, so hot, MUST HAVE. But it turns out ML is such an a**hole. He really, really is. To outsiders, he is a stingy as*hole who is sarcastic, blunt, and does not care about anyone's feelings. And truly, from the first few interactions between the couple, it is funny as hell because they just clash on so many levels.

FL finds out ML's (outer) personality and somehow through some twists and turns, they spend a lot of time with one another and gradually get to know each other better. She finds out that ML is a prickly bastard with a heart of gold. He's just a little hedgehog who pricks others with his barbs but its a softie inside.

ML falls first because of FL's undeterred and strong personality that just makes him admire her so much.

The story has a lot of case related stories involving court and people but it doesn't distract from the romance because the two leads build their relationship through them.

My favourite part would be when:

FL is ML's mother's caretaker and she's ruthless in withholding snacks because his mother is a diabetic and takes insulin. FL even makes the mum go for walks in a swimming pool to be healthy and his mum complains to him about it and he's just happy that someone can control his mother's temper lol!

While Du Xinyi has slaps physically occur towards her person, no other serious problems occurs towards Du Xinyi and Lin Hui. It just goes to show that everyone errs.

Excellent work. The romance is a little slow, but there is a lot of cute interactions between the leads. The plot is also moving. Although the beginning was a little slow, it really develops well as the story goes. I highly recommend it for the plot and the romance. The leads communicates, there's no big misunderstanding and there's no annoying mother-in-law, she gets along well with her m-i-l eventhough she is said to be difficult to get along.

I finally found it! A book that has a perfectly paced romance, a competent FL even in the presence of the ml, a ML that isn't s*xist-but-its-okay-because-he's-doting, and its funny without being over the top!?

Amazing, amazing I recommend!

i have been reading on this site for years and this was the one that made me create an account to write a review. I have no idea how I haven't come across this novel sooner, but honestly, I'm glad I at least found it now.

as other reviewers pointed out, the beginning of the novel was frustrating because of the way FL's firm and ML treated FL, but once you get past that part, the rest is SO SO SO worth it. Obviously, the novel has its flaws (ie I... more>> felt like the way they solved some of the cases was a bit hand-wavey). However, just on emotional impact, I wanted to give this five stars. It's been a long time since I read something where I couldn't stop myself from laughing. One highlight of the novel is

Third story I've read from this author, and it's still good. I liked FL and ML, and the other comments were right that the journey from enemies to lovers was worth it. I guess my only complaint would be that they got together kinda late in the story and there weren't too many chapters where they were just lovey dovey.

This novel I read while back

This novel gave me idea about the whole law thing especially in China, the author has other works which all related to law only, seems like author is a lawyer because she has explained cases so well. Also the couple is such a power couple

You cant really give this positive review. Wouldn't recommend it, anyone giving it positive review prob skipped first chapters or just read them as if they weren't there heroine trained in every possible martial art not afraid of thugs afraid of dogs. Not even interested what s*upid things author will come up with just so this ML wins. (First time ever bothering to give a review under 5 stars thats how bad this is thanks)

I liked both the strong and smart leads and enjoyed how their relationship developed. I was expecting the law cases to be a hard (boring) read especially when they involved labour laws but the author and translator did a great job - I looked forward to each case.

The translator also explained the use/meaning of numbers which can be confusing for those of us who are not familiar with the Chinese culture.

There were funny, quirky and touching bits.

BDD created a script for JL so they could both act the part of innocent cat parents when they took mimi in for neutering. I love anything with cats. The way BDD started going over to JL's place for food was like another story, Rice Pot. Love it when the male cooks well! The interaction of BDD and JL's mom and how she got her trained. The final case where the employees repaid the employer's kindness with understanding.

This novel was fun to read!

The FL is upright and a strong woman with her own set of beliefs and strives for them even though she is the only person standing up for them, hoping to make a change. She is very straightforward with her words and actions.

As for the ML because of some unpleasant childhood experience he is used to always keep a distance from people. He always shows his worst side hoping no one would approach him. A typical guy who is cold on the outside but soft... more>> inside.

Both ML and FL are total eye candies. Their relationship starts from rivals, then to co-workers then develop to lovers.

The novel actually had a good plot, mainly through the cases, the novel wanted to show us how human nature is. It is not always bad and always good.

The novel was well written. Recommended to read. <<less
