Distance is a social platform that (just like other social platforms) can display the distance between parties. Ting Shuang had chosen someone that was 287 kilometres away from him, thinking that it was very safe. After all, when there’s more than two hundred kilometres between them, they wouldn’t awkwardly chance upon each other in real life, right!

Unexpectedly… The next night, 287 kilometres suddenly became 4.8 kilometres???

And even more unexpectedly… In the afternoon of the third day, 4.8 kilometres suddenly became 3 metres???

3 metres?????

Metres?????

I’m having a lesson right now, doesn’t 3 meters mean that the person I was flirting with is in the classroom right now?

This is just too good! Too good!

The MC and ML aren't cliche novel characters at all, they feel so real and I want a relationship like theirs. I wish I have my own ML huhu

I'm even scared to continue reading this cause I can't help but want a relationship like this too much!!

... more>> I'll stop reading at chapter 40 for now cause my heart wouldn't be able to take it if they encountered problems cause the novel is not yet translated completely. I'll definitely comeback someday!!!

** Edit: So I came back after 4 months and damn this is so worth it.

If you're in your 20s, 30s or even 40s don't miss this especially if you're in your 20-30s. I've learned something special from this novel and this just hits really differently about romantic life, family life, career... just life in general.

Dang this is just so good. <<less

Wow, I'm utterly blown away by this novel. Did not hold high expectations going into this thinking that it'll be the usual trope of high in the sky ML pampering his cute lovable MC but lo and behold, overturned all the meagre expectations that I've held. Both the MC and ML is incredibly down to earth - very realistic in a sense that both of them have their pros and cons whether it's there character/personality or even their pasts. And here is where I especially love that they explore together... more>> about each others' deficiencies especially in the case of the MC whose still essentially in need of guidance and advice in which our mature ML then steps in.

Simply put, this novel is very well done, lovely, heartwarming, comedic and heart-jerking at times but the methods that's used to resolve those issues or problems are just *chefs kiss* beautiful. Totally recommending this to whoever is out there reading this lol.

Again, the comedy is something that I really looking forward when reading this story beside their romance and their growth as a character. The ML has the maturity I looking forward, and the MC is someone who makes me want to transmigrated into a novel switch my place with him. LoL (rather than those princess-marshal's wife-fiance or smth along the lines kinda story) Bai Changyi is amazing. I want that kind of boyfriend, desperately.

The resolved problems also best in my opinions. It doesn't take that long to fix a misunderstanding,... more>> a few chapters at tops. Basically this is a wholesome story, nice mature way of thinking, great characaters, fleshed out well. But the story is revolving only those two, not that matters a lot for me. I'm fine with that. And OHH the comedy, the jokes. They are gold I told you. That's right up my alley. <<less

It's kind of funny how some reviews here say that they are annoyed by MC because of how immature it is, hence, they rate this novel a little lower. This novel is about coming of age/slice of life stuff, ofc it is expected that MC is really immature at the beginning, then face his shortcomings and mature all the way. If you want to feel good and stuff, then just read those wish-fulfillment novels/almost self-insert novels wherein MC and ML are already perfect to begin with.

But I agree with the... more>> review mentioning about ML's (or the author's) opinion about learning. You, as a professor, should not take pride on the fact that you have such a high failing rate. That just means that you are not effectively teaching what you're supposed to teach. I understand not spoon-feeding too much and allowing the students to build their own ideas/hone their own problem-solving skills based on the concepts that you teach, but not all students can easily apply what they learn to problems that really require critical thinking. <<less

The story is incredibly cute and sweet ><

I couldn't get enough of the interactions between the MC and the ML. They're both just so adorable!

Their relationship is healthy and so endearing to read. The MC can be a bit childish at the start of the novel, but gradually matures more as he gets to know the ML. The ML is someone steady and mature, but is also indulgent towards the MC and his antics.

It's also funny to me how I keep getting second-hand embarassment, but I still keep coming back... more>> for more cause it's too cute and funny. I love tha author's humor and the misunderstandings make it even funnier.

I may have cried on some parts, but that's just my sentimental side talking. I promise, there isn't really any angst.

Overall, it's a very fluffy and warm story that's perfect for any who's looking for a light read. It's not slow burn, but personally, I find that the progression of their relationship is just natural.

I'd love to re-read this again in the future!

I truly love this novel so much. At first I hesitated on reading this because of the title which is "Your Distance" I thought it was angsty but NO IT'S NOT!

I love the MC and ML's characters, especially the ML because he's mature (I'm not saying that the MC is not mature what I'm trying to say is I personally like the ML more. I love and admire their views on everything, especially about school (university) because I'm a college student so it gave a big impact on me.

I love... more>> the development of their relationship. I've been laughing so hard at the very first chapters (super funny)

If you plan on reading something realistic, mature and a fluff story then this is it. I promise you, this is a gem, truly worth reading. <<less

This is one of the bests modern danmei I've read. There aren't any flaws that haven't been addressed. At first, I was hesitant that this may end up focusing more on the professor x student relationship but I was wrong! They are so mature. Ting matured slowly as well and time clearly did not hinder them. Their ending was due to their hard work to make this work seemingly unexpected relationship work out.

I love Bai Changyi's approach when Ting was very anxious about the future, aging, and death. Ting and I have the same fear, and it was thanks to our dear that I have come to a realization that I should live my life doing things that I live and shall not spend all of my time worrying about the inevitable. I've learned a lot of things upon reading this novel. Probably, 1 year? 2 years? 5 or 10 years from now, I will come back here and reread this masterpiece. God, I'm tearing up. I have fallen in love with this story.

Professor Bai, Ting —

Until we meet again. Live happily (in your universe) may you always stay happy together! I love you both. <<less

"Turns out, that kind of kindness was not cultivated from discipline, but the mere thought of 'This is nothing'. "

- Excerpt from ch.84

We have two people of different age groups with their own perspectives on life getting together in this weird bout of coincidences. Both the protagonists met on a social dating platform set-up by their close relative/ex-partner, unaware of each other's 'true' identities and both having personalities polar opposite to each other. MC is a college student whereas ML is his professor. MC is an energetic youth in the... more>> prime of his life, his only worry; being able to pass his 'Robotics' exams whereas ML is a mature, settled man working as a tenured professor at MC's college. The story is about how two people with different perspectives on life, get together and grow as an 'individual'. The ML only 'guides' the MC. He doesn't present the MC with the right answers on a silver platter but rather let's the MC search for himself whether his conclusion is the "right or wrong answer"or if the answer can really be confined within the words 'right' or 'wrong'. There is a reason as to why I cited this particular excerpt despite there being better ones from this novel.

Spoiler

You see, a few days back, I watched a TVC Thai Insurance policy ad, the one about a deaf and mute man and, I cried. I showed it to my mom and told her, "Mom, I'm pretty sure you're gonna cry watching this". She watched the nearly 3 min ad and didn't cry. I asked jokingly, "Was life so hard you're unable to cry?" And she said, "Yes, it is and this is nothing".

When we're kids, because we're sheltered, we're completely free from any burden or worries. As we grow older, our perspectives broaden and we start to accumulate worries, worries about scoring marks in exams, worries about getting into our dream colleges, career worries, etc. The adults around us tell us, "Just pass that exam and you'll be able to live a worry-free life", "Just go through this and you won't need to have anymore worries or burdens in life". It's...a kind of appeas**ent, I guess. They want us to live a better life so they "dictate/guide" us on what to do and what not to do and this guidance is probably the result of years of experience and learning. Life has taught them a lot of lessons. It won't stop and wait for nobody so you just need to catch up with it to be able to go on. The MC too "grows up". He is a 24 year-old guy, a self-proclaimed, self-dependent adult, whose only worries are to be able to pass his his final exams and get a job at his dad's company. But his dad's accident, his step-mom's fraud and what-not made him "grow-up" and become an adult in the true sense. Maybe physical age defines the boundaries between a teen and an adult but not one's mental age. You might grow-up at an age as young as 10 years old or even as old as 30+ years old. When you face a situation you can't escape from and need to face head-on, a situation that tests your maximum limits, be it emotionally, physically or mentally and you're able to successfully come out of it unscathed, then only will you be able to think, "This is nothing". Teens perspective of adults is that they're "steady, mature, fearless and decisive" but these qualities are probably the accumulation of years of experience, knowledge, mistakes, gains and losses that have gotten them to where they are. Talking in a general sense, adults don't cry at an overly emotional scene, they don't start shivering while watching a grudge movie nor do they jump at the mere sight of arachnids and worms. They definitely don't hiccup whilst giving speeches on any topic and have tons of stories to tell and worth to learn from. Whereas teens are at the level of taking the first step towards this thing called "society" and first steps are always the most painful and crucial steps in life. It's similar to the state when a baby trips and falls repeatedly to take that one first step to become a two-legged homo sapiens. It's just a sad fact that people forget this fact as they grow older and tend to make irreversible mistakes, be it interpersonal relationships or even with one's own life. And that's what this novel is all about. It has all the stages of life assimilated together.

I won't start this from saying how wonderful the character development of the MC was and how everyone needs this ML, as a friend or otherwise.

I think I learnt more abt life or perhaps I should say I pondered more on things that I hadn't before after reading this novel.

It sounds silly when I think about how my emotions became like this after reading this novel. However there's just something about this novel that makes you think and want to delve deeper.

It's taking me a while to form the correct... more>> words because I really don't know what else to say other than.. I'm so blessed to have read this.

I won't urge you to read it, just know it's very good. Atleast better than most of novels I have read.

The MC is very irritating at first, however the way his character development is made is just so.... natural. He is still playful and does alot of things that shouldn't be done but his character improves by soo much. The progress is slow but oh so believable.

The story starts of as funny but becomes more serious, alot of interesting things are said which either made me laugh or made me ponder.

I seriously think you should read this because it is very good. I know this is among the many good reviews and people tend to focus on the negative reviews more and ignore the good parts for the favour of the bad reviews and then miss out on good novels.

However I just think, this novel is worth it and would totally reccomend you to read it. <<less

It is one of that stories where you can just enjoy your moment and relax. I cannot call it fluff - because it is simply degrading title - nope, just a humorous slice of life story without any particular plot advancement or struggles. The core of this novel is a relationship between main couple.

Sweet, relaxing, hilarious language and beautiful translation. I would totally recommend this novel for all of you folks.

BOOKMARKED

The healthy relationship, the age gap, the slight misunderstandings and all of that jazz.

The whole comedy and humor.

Maturity and understanding.

Communication and acceptance of one's mistakes.

This is just a 10/10, I read this straight and need to sleep now. Will edit this review later.

An absolute masterpiece. I feel like I learned a lot about relationships and things I don't know how to articulate.

Even if you aren't into Age-Gap, I highly recommend giving this a try. As a 24 y.o. Myself I really felt for the MC in the first few chapters. The beginning is very funny and you get to know the characters pretty well. Then it goes over into character development, philosophy and their relationship.

There's a little bit of drama towards the later half but I think it really showed how much... more>> MC matured.

The Age difference is a constant subject and a lot of the topics are about what their current phases of life mean and how they influence each other because of it.

I have nothing negative to say about this novel and it's definitely among my top 10. <<less

Before I read this novel, I saw many people saying the mc's personality is annoying, but im here to say that in my opinion, thats not true.

He himself also knows his personality isn't great, and knows he gets mad at s*upid things because of his temper, but the best thing about him is how he owns up to his mistakes. Whenever the ML tells him he did something wrong or gives him advice, he doesn't get all mad and won't admit what he's done. He admits he is wrong, listens... more>> to the advice, apologizes and tries to do better next time, which I think is the best part about him. Ting Shuang stopped to look at the words on a tombstone. 1911-1951, a man named Günter had been sleeping here for 68 years.

Being from an older time, the epitaph was written in Gothic, and was difficult to decipher. Ting Shuang looked at it for a long time before trying to translate the sentence, "He's lived forty... precipitous... extraordinary years."

"Prosperous." Bai Changyi translated it concisely, "He had forty prosperous years to call his own."

"He'd owned forty prosperous years." Ting Shuang slowly and softly recited the sentence several times, and was suddenly touched by this sentence, touched by the use of the word 'own.'

He didn't know if this man named Günter had thought about what his life after fifty would be like when he was young, or whether he'd thought about how to spend the rest of his life.

But people didn't really have a future, nor a so-called 'rest of their lives.' 'The rest of our lives' was just a vision, just a figment of one's imagination. The only thing that truly belonged to you was the years you'd lived, and the present moment.

Thing Shuang stood quietly in front of the tombstone, his chest suddenly feeling lighter.

The breeze blew gently by, on this clear autumn day.

"Should we move on?" Ting Shuang asked.

"Mm." Bai Changyi answered, and the two walked forward side by side.

After taking a few steps, Bai Changyi said, "If I die tomorrow, my epitaph can have this written on it---"

"He'd owned thirty-six prosperous years, and a young lover named Ting Shuang." The tone he used was so natural and ordinary, that Ting Shuang did not feel opposed to it at all.

"It's not scary, right?"

...I am scared of what happens when I die because I don't know what's waiting for me beyong. Like Ting Shuang, I'm scared of the unknown. And I think there's comfort in reading those words, of being in the moment, of living in the now. While reading, Hozier's 'In a Week' and Reese Lansangan's 'When it happens' keeps on playing in my mind, especially the former. I just feel that the song fits the scene well, even if they have an age gap and no one necessarily knows when the two of them will die, or who goes first.

Sorry for the rambling, I just really like the idea of a couple being together even in death (like the Lovers of Hasanlu or the Lovers of Modena). Death is scary, but it can also be something gentle and cathartic.

We lay here for years or for hours
Your hand in my hand
So still and discreet
So long we become the flowers
We'd feed well the land
And worry the sheep...

I finished this in one sitting and can't even believed that I reached the end just like that! I just freaking love this novel so much! I've read enough of Ting Shuang's (MC) secondhand embarrassment to last for a few years! It's so hilarious and embarrassing that I only found myself facepalming, and I even have moments when I was peeking through my fingers while reading Ting Shuang losing his dignity.

But seriously, I just love the relationship between Ting Shuang and his older lover Bai Changyi (ML). Just... more>> a reminder that they have a huge age gap (12 years) but both of them are already adults. They both have past relationships. At the start of the novel, Ting Shuang was even going through a breakup with his first and long time boyfriend. Bai Laoban, on the other hand, was once married and had a female companion but because of the truth of him being gay, they got divorced. Though they both have relationship experiences, you can easily distinguished the gap of their life experiences. Though both of them are adults, Ting Shuang had a childish attitude and immature way of handling things. He has a very bad temper and he likes to always make a fuss. But his personality complements Bai Laoban's personality perfectly. Bai Laoban is just so patient, so understanding and so level-headed. He's rational and can keep his calm all most of the time. He's so dependable and reliable. He's literally a perfect partner anyone could have ever wished for! I almost commented the same thing in every chapter: 'I want a Bai Changyi for myself!'. He's just so mature and he can handle a relationship really well.

Seriously, please try reading this novel. I really really recommend this to anyone and everyone! I'm pretty sure that you'll like this! <<less

No angst and no misunderstandings!

The mature tag stands for actually mature and not mut mut!

It was a very fast reading, they got together early which is great, because I was tired of waiting for the main couple get together after 100 chapters.

... more>> MC is 24 and ML is 36, both are adults, non of them are virg*ns and have past relationships. ML is very level headed, patient and mature he talks when there's a problem and stimulates the MC to also communicate.

This is a light reading, there were moments when a couldn't stop my self from laughing out loud, but is also one of the few danmei novels I read that brings up questions about the difference in age between the couple. The feelings about the difference in age are beautifully represented in a song the MC sang when traveling with the ML (the MC shed tears and I shed tears too).

Again, this is a light funny reading, but I think some feelings and relationships are fairly realistically portrayed. <<less

thank you translator for picking this up💖
I love the dynamic of their relationship. I love the MC and ML

I love how mature the ML is and how patient he is.

I love how immature and vulnerable the MC is. Independent and dependent at the same time.

Learning, Growing together and giving us lots of Dog food! I just love the lessons that I learned in this novel and how relatable some of the characters are.

Totally worth the read
