The romance is cute and all but I'm gonna state the obvious: there are tons of plot holes and the story is simply too unrealistic, even for a supernatural/fantasy novel.

So the MC was a female orphan disguised as an eunuch from ancient China who got transmigrated to the modern world. Okay, I can accept that, but the amount of logical fallacies here is baffling:

- The MC never seem to be surprised seeing modern appliances, at all, even from the very first moment she transmigrated. She could've won an oscar for... more>> her acting.

- She can directly use modern appliances after seeing others used it once. Yep, she's that good. She doesn't even qiestion the fingerprint lock in the phone.

- She learns everything by herself and can immediately understand it. So the modern era has pinyin and different use of words? No problem! The MC just had to look at the pinyin keyboard in her phone a few more times, and voila! She mastered it immediately.

- She is supposed to act as a rich educated lady who works in an international company. She was placed in the finance department as a manager substitute and nobody suspected a thing! Apparently the ancient Chinese are so well-versed in finance and accounting lmao.

- She works in an international company yet she got no problem working even though she could not understand any English word. It's impossible for an employee of such company to not encounter any English word in a day lmao. And later she got a super-beginner English tutoring lesson, and nobody thought it was strange for a high-born lady to not understand even a single hi or hello.

- She was born in ancient China, yet she has waaaay more feminist spirit than today's women. She kept saying that it's sad to be a woman in this era (modern world), seeing how a lot of those companies are inherited by guys and how women are forced to take leave when they're in maternity, making their works stumped for at least a year. Hello, she is supposed to be a person who lived in ancient China with waaaay much worse treatment of women from today's age, and she said the treatment of women in this era are bad? Such bad character building from the author.

- It simply doesn't make sense how she sneaked into the palace to be an eunuch pretending to be male on her own accord. It was said numerous times that she was ambitious, but that doesn't explain anything! She could've just enter the palace as a palace maid or if she was really ambitious she would've pretended to be a male to enter the imperial exam. Why would risk her head just to be an eunuch with no real power?? And you're telling me nobody even remotely suspected she was a woman?? Lmao, just read proper Chinese history book and you'd know palace eunuchs would have to go through a lot of tests and trainings that would require their bodies to be checked. Not to mention the corporal punichment back then was beating on their back and bottom, where in the servant's case it's impossible to avoid. How would she be able to stay so long in that era without exposing her body?

Overall, extremely sloppy character setting and development, too many plot holes, and well, simply unrealistic bad writing. But the romance is cute though, and the emotional development is quite realistic. Aside from that, it's all bad. <<less

Pretty nice reading. The trope "First Marry, Then Love" never fail to deliver in short novels.

Spoiler

MC is an ancient person who somehow transmigrated to the modern world. With her accumulated skills as a trusted eunuch for the emperor, she was able to somehow pretend to be the person she's assuming the identity of. Slowly, she tries to integrate herself with modern society, being married, and having her own career.

As for ML, he is a mature, experienced, and calm person. Or so he wanted to be. In fact, he's just someone who likes to pretend (as we all do) to be someone cool. As he started to fall in love with MC, his mask fell off one by one to show his childishness and pe*vertedness in front of MC. Overall, he's a very understanding and sweet ML to MC.

The novel plot mainly tells about how suitable and matching the couple are, as they both have a thorough understanding of their own spouse and constant similar ideas on how to deal with things. As for the relations of the plot with the title, it can be played from both MC and ML side. MC's "sickness" is her awkwardness at trying to accept that her husband have the same face as her master in the previous life. For ML, his "sickness" is trying to woo his wife who doesn't seem to have feelings for him. Cue trying for more skinship and failed attempts being romantic.

[collapse]

I like how despite being a short novel, the author still tries to incorporate life lesson to the reader. Talk to your significant other to prevent misunderstanding. You can fall in love, but you can never forsake your future for love. Knowledge is a lifelong matter.

Overall, pretty satisfied with the novel. 4 stars for Character Development, Short Novel, Power Couple, and Adorable Baby. Short of one star because I'm intrigued by [What Happened To The Original] trope. <<less

This is one of my favourite romance novel from novelupdates.

The author has done a great job at writing how the relationship progressed between the main character, from being awkward, indifferent, to finally loving each other in a realistic way. And I love their interaction! It's a mix of funny and sweet:)) ... more>>
Spoiler

at first MC felt awkward because ML has the exact same face with her master aka the previous emperor of her last life, so she unconsciously distanced herself emotionally from ML while ML was slowly falling in love with her. MC busied herself with the job ML gave her at the company and ML tried to insert himself slowly in her daily activities, notably when he asked MC to let him join her to do charity work in rural area, where then they suffered together lmao.

At some point, the extend of ml's courting made her contemplate her actions toward him, and she reminded herself that despite having the same face, ML is vastly different from her previous master in terms of personality and she didn't need to mind her actions, so she decided to act like her true self and tried to accept ML as her husband of this life. From then on everyday was spring for ML lol, even though there's a brief conflict between this couple because of ml's jealousy and mc's somewhat unthoughtful act, but it was wonderfully resolved, and that's what made MC realize that she liked ML more that she thought.

[collapse]

I think every character in this story is quite fleshed out, shout out to the author. You got to know how things work from their perspective and they made you understand why did they do what they did. MC and ML are somewhat different in personality, but both are mature in the way of dealing with things, especially ml, he is what I call a gentleman. And MC is so cool I love her!!
Spoiler

ML was soooo considerate of MC even when he wasn't in love with her yet. And when he did, he sometimes acted like a teenager in love (even ML himself thought so too lmao) even though he actually had multiple experience in dating. Ml's road of courting MC made me swoon although he failed sometimes, and that was one of the things I enjoyed when reading this novel. One time he asked MC to retrieve something (i think a water bottle I forgot) from the car trunk-- where he put a flower bouquet to surprise mc-- but MC saw through his plot because she watched romance drama where the actor did the same to the actress, so she told him to get it himself lmao ML knew the surprise failed so he picked the bouquet from the trunk and gave to her, and MC accepted it reluctantly😂

And mc!!! How I love her.. I really love how she handle people from her work colleagues to her in-laws, and she worked hard because she knew she wouldn't survive in this modern world if she didn't. Her thought process when interacting with ML and other characters made me applaud for mental intelligence, and her character development is palpable throughout the story.

[collapse]

Even the minor characters background, although brief, were constructed very well, and some of them made me sympathetic somehow.
Spoiler

i felt a little bad for the ml's cousin because she didn't think everything she did was wrong, and her bad personality is resulted by her mother's actions and lack of affection: ((

[collapse]

This novel is great for those who wanted to read light-hearted story, no drama, no great misunderstanding, but realistic romance with a dash of fluff. And the mtl is fairly readable too! <<less

This novel is awesome like always since it’s by this particular author. Love her work because of how some parts are so realistic though it may be boring to some.

When I first read the summary, I thought that it’s going to be those novels where the FL would be slightly more submissive to the ML. But it turns out to be the opposite. The part on the emperor’s face scaring the FL is only a very small part which is just the first few times she met him. If you... more>> ask me whether that is submissive, I disagree. I think for her (at the beginning) kneeling and all is a salutation she did everyday previously and if she didn’t in the past she would probably be killed by the emperor or other people for having poor etiquette.

The FL and ML’s romance is like two people from a blind date getting used to each other and learning about one another. It’s sort of similar to “You look like you are made of money” but it’s different since the FL is not the one initiating to have a better relationship with the ML. At first, she just thought that it’s alright if their relationship is like a roommate. Though after that she had a part where she suddenly started to think about the marriage and what she wanted from it. I would say their relationship is very mature and both of them think of their actions (where they will think if it’s even worth causing to argue that would harm their relationship). I think that’s a very important idea that one should have.

Honestly, I would say their relationship isn’t the most romantic but it could be the most realistic especially to those marriage set up to strengthen ties and such. It’s like two strangers getting used to one another but at the same time treats their relationship of importance and think before they speak. And I enjoyed this novel because of that.

To conclude, I would recommend this novel if you are slightly bored of rom-com or too sweet romantic moments. I would not recommend this if you are looking for something very romantic. (I think even “You are made of money” is more romantic than this novel in my opinion) <<less

3.5 if you only focus on the romance between the leads, and care about nothing else, this is a good read. They both grow into their relationship and make important realizations for the gradual improvement of their relationship. The book even made me accept a clingy ML with its writing. They are respectful, mature, and deliberate in committing to their marriage. I dropped only bc I don't like reading about variety show in celebrity novels, but I DISDAIN them in rich people novels if that's not their career.. it's not... more>> even that bad bc they are intentionally doing it as a company pr move lol but personally not for me. If u don't mind, give it a shot.

Spoiler

Me reading the first 2 chapters: I really hate moms who uphold the patriarchy.... I just hate the patriarchy. Sorry not sorry. But I'm tired of hearing b*tching about a women who got married and has to stay in her new home properly waiting for her new husband to come back or else god forbid ruining the families' reputation. Whatever rich families. Idc. get over it. She has feet -- god forbid she use them /rant.

[collapse]

I think the ML is very reasonable so if you're looking for a placeholder type of read, you could enjoy this in pastime. But I find the overall structure of the novel not particularly to my liking and the novel is basically the minimum requirement for decent storytelling. Not too many details, mostly easily fixed or glossed over. Heavily based in rich family marriage social pressures. I don't mind that but this one has more implicit patriarchal / classist themes I dislike from the surrounding characters so far. But yes the ML is a good guy so there's that.

But I'm gonna say people, This is why you gotta read for urself.... Bc sometimes reviewers are missing things?
Spoiler

so one review is saying all these inconsistencies that I'm not really seeing???:

- she was a female eunuch (yea I accept this one but it's fiction baby) and how that even happened is ridiculous

- she's more feminist than others despite coming from ancient china (fair point but also.. kinda not bc u have to remember people are not monoliths; you only have the rights u have today bc several people in time periods when it was impossible, fought to have them aka even if ppl never said it aloud, there existed ppl in the past who could have had different thinking from their time period. Rare probably but highly possible.)

- that she magically know how to do all the technology and texting so easily (... I mean no. The writing is not that great but it mentions that off camera of this novel, she had spent several days getting used to her phone and appliances before the 1st ch. And later, it distinctly will write oh yea she doesn't know a computer, car, texting, and will have multiple times where it is written she is still learning.)

- for the finance thing, it is bad writing but the explanation is still there. It is brief but existant. It said she had like a memory of how to do it as she was learning to do it so it helped her to learn it quickly -- this is probably referencing how her mind naturally remembers this from her college studies even though she doesn't explicitly have any memories from the past owner. I mean first of all u are reading a transmigration novel, are u looking for a realistic explanation? I mean as far as it goes this explanation makes enough sense for me. It's a lazy way out yes, but plausible and thus acceptable imo.

Moral of the story, I did not see what they were talking about and thus, this gives credit to reading things for yourself bc sometimes people are not reading it carefully enough. I mean disclaimer I mtled but I still got the novel more. But maybe I'm wrong.

This is a three star!!!!!!

the ML is an old driver (the emperor)

The FMC is a virg*n (the female eunuch)

At first, I thought is incompatible..... Later on, the ML redeemed himself (white-washed) from all his pasti bad deeds and live a happily ever married life to MC.

I just too disappointed to know that the FMC was bullied by the emperor in the last life. And seeing emperor changing woman one night to another in that life. Sad.

ML gives off the feeling of cold and indifferent in the starting but when he started wooing MC we can clearly see his true colours. Before he made MC fall for him, he is already halfway in love with her.

He can bit narcissistic and very funny. His son also inherited these. And bit attached to mirror at small age. He also likes singing.

ML kept all the love letters he received from his childhood to show off infront of MC.

he also tells that he would have been picked up by an agent in music industry if not for him being rich

Super cliche/Mary-sue and there's nothing really unique from other novels (other than the fact that she fears/is subserviant to the emperor so far) but even this characteristic isn't consistently potrayed (she only acts like her eunuch self when it's convenient for the plot). The author started off with an interesting idea but failed to execute it properly with poor worldbuilding and one-dimensional characters. I've read other transmigration stories and although there maybe a few inconstistencies, those books for the most part are logical.
