Review as of Ch195.

I agree with the other reviewers here who say WDQK is “average” “tropes” “typical”. Perhaps we are tempered by the fact that we have read other similar novels and didn’t pick WDQK as our first xianxia series.

It has all the usual points: mysterious childhood friend, mysterious cheat item, bullied background, powers up secretly, making bullies pay, finding bigger bullies, powers up, making them pay, repeat etc.

Thus far it has been “clean” and straightforward. The MC has a vague long-term goal that was only fleshed out... more>> after nearly 200 chapters. It seems every arc introduces a local bad guy for him to overcome. First it was an overbearing cousin, then that cousin’s elder brother, then the local town’s factions... and it seems to scale up onwards, presumably to godlike levels once he leaves the town. It suffers from the usual problems in a xianxia story: previous side characters are forgotten once the MC has powered up, women are basically forgettable despite descriptions of their beauty... even the MC’s mother hasn’t reappeared in a long while. One glaring problem that this series and others like it (eg: True Martial World) is that many secret skills and martial arts are hyped about, painfully gained, trained and then easily replaced and dismissed as inferior later on.

For those who want a decent first xianxia series, this is a good pick. It doesn’t have the “all-out-kill-your-entire-clan” of some series, nor the “oops-I-made-another-girl-fall-for-me” (at least, not yet). For those who are already familiar to the genre, it may all seem too familiar and nothing special. <<less

Decent story, I have no great expectation whatsoever in the beginning so I can still fully enjoy the story. At least it's a lot more better than Dragon Prince Yuan, especially in the romantic drama part at least to me.

Spoiler

Well it's still a painful and heart wrenching development. I, who usually never able to deeply immerse my self inside the story, unknownly tears began flowings and my chest start to hurt. In the end the author still giving us a hope tho.

Death of the loved one is quite the nasty development, but it gives myriad feelings to the readers. And for someone like me who has a dull and monotonous life, it is but a new sensation. Btw I'm not a masochist.

Reviewed after 1309 chapters, rated 3.

I am not going to lie but this light novel was alright at the start. The first 200 chapters were fine, just like you would expect out of an average magical world series. However, after that everything starts getting repetitive the foes, rivals, friends, fight scenes and etc. It even gets to the point where every fight starts with a 'BUZZ'... like we haven't heard of that sound a 1000 times before. This novel has a lot of fight scenes/action. Usually, when... more>> a light novel/anime has a lot of action it makes me excited and makes me want to read further. But while reading this novel all I wished for was the s*upid antagonist to just die quickly and move on, however, the antagonist would always be saved by a new and more dangerous antagonist at the critical point and honestly, it got irritating.

Nonetheless, the plot had tremendous potential that the author just wasted, due to poor writing and sometimes forcing scenes that honestly didn't look like they belonged there. Moreover, the MC was a simp lord who would constantly stumble upon whamen that looked like angels. Like seriously?!! one would have thought maybe there was one ugly chick or maybe a normal looking one but noooo all of them were beauties that were sent down from the heavens and all of them would fall in love with him after noticing the scars on his back...I wouldn't really have a big problem with it if it didn't look like the author was just inserting whamen to just satisfy the harem tag. Plus the relationships that the MC had with certain whamen were all unnatural.

Spoiler

The MC was r*ped and r*ped the first whamen he met that wasn't his sister upon their first encounter. Plus later on all the other women he met, he developed feelings for them without the reader noticing. Like they just materialized out of thin air

[collapse]

Anyways moving on towards the end... the novel progressively got better in my opinion. Fewer repetitions when it came to sound effects and fight scenes. The quality of the fights/martial arts also improved. But I was still easily able to predict the final result.

Alas, in the last 200 chapters the author finally revealed that he was somewhat capable of plot twists and the story increased its pace, to the point where it felt like the last 20 chapters were crammed with stuff that should have been spread around 50 chapters.

In a nutshell, this is just like your average magical novel series. The first and last parts of the story are fine but the state of the story between those parts is pathetic. If you have a large pocket filled with time that is burning a hole in it then go ahead and read it. After reading the whole novel you start to understand why the novel was average instead of being tr*sh.

Maybe I haven't read a lot of novels/seen anime that would make me despise this novel due to a large amount of repetition. But I am pretty sure my opinion on this novel would never change even in the distant future. <<less

I enjoyed it for the most part, but the ending and some plots s**ked, and it sucks that you have to read another novel that MC appears (great ruler) to figure out what happened to the cliff hanger of this one, and even then you dont know exactly what happened only the result....

Generic novel, usual story of MC getting stronger fast and being a genius, at least the harem was limited to two members and I sort of liked that this story linked to other stories at the end. 2.8/5.

I like it tho. Honestly, I enjoyed 3/4 of the story. I don't care that much if there are scenes that are repetitive or there are some holes, as long as it keeps me interested then I'm gonna read it. But, just a few chaps to the end, I don't know what happened to the MC but I think his brain dropped on the ground. Idiot, s*upid and love struck fool. The last 50-80 chapters annoyed me to death that I just skim all through the end.

My hatest part is... more>> the romance! It annoyed me to the fullest! I think it would be better if there's no romance at all! In all honesty, those FLs were meh. I rather choose the Marten (my babyyy). Lol. <<less

This is my first Xianxia novel and I've finally completed it so I feel like saying some stuff.

I've read a lot of other novels and was on the verge of finishing them but I stopped myself. I wanted to finish WDQK first and finally I did.

It was great at the beginning, then it got annoying around the middle. But the final arc was absolutely wonderful.

I also just remembered that I started reading this three years ago in high school and now I'm in college. Lots of things have happened in my life and I've gone through it along with Lin Dong.
It was a great run.

The love story of MC and the girl is one of the best I have ever read in a cultivation novel. The final chapters were amazing. I felt like crying. Everything. The emotion of the story and my own. This has been a wonderful journey and I would like to thank the author and the translator for giving us an amazing story to read.

The cameo was awesome by the way.

This is a great novel and I recommend everyone read it, even though it might get tiring around the middle but its definitely worth it.

I know this doesn't sound like a review but I couldn't help it. My heart cannot contain myself. A big part of my life just ended.

Now I'm going to finish BTTH and then I'm coming for The Great Ruler. I'll see you again soon LD!

This is an edited review so date might be f*cked up.

Honestly? This novel is OK. Its the kind of novel that does everything right but I could never find the thing that really made it stand out for me. The beast companion? CD did that and a bit better in terms of bromance. There is a cool kind of side type of power called mental power that is basically the magic of the world. Its nice but again it never felt too unique.

I'm not saying this novel is bad. Its written by one of the top writers for CN's so... more>> the quality is excellent the fight scenes tense and the dialogue is good. But I read this novel mostly because of how the clear goals are. The MC sets himself a goal and begins the journey and completes some side objectives to help with the primary objective but always complete what he set out to do and that is what I like is how focused this novel.

So yes I would recommend this novel for people for two reasons, the first reason as explained above but also for the quantity of chapters released and the consistency of the translators ensures that they won't run out anytime soon. <<less

This is valid till chapter 295.

So, you got a MC who has crazy treasure, crazy experienced guy, no character development (till CHAPTER 295 GODDAMMIT) and he pisses off every organization. The 4/5 rating has a few reasoning behind it. 1) Not even 1/3 of story has been completed.
2) The fights are a bit interesting and descriptive, though this might be a negative for some people.
3) The violence aspect is nicely done with the proper subtleties. Now I am thinking of giving it 3/5 rating as I remembered something: the dialogues suck.
4) The setting is rather interesting and mysterious, with a lot more to be discovered.
5) Not sure if this is positive, but there is almost no romance out there. I mean he had physical contact with a woman he met like on the same day. That's it. No actual heart touching romance or anything. (Pretty sure this a negative)
Spoiler

So, he gets a technique for some dragon blood stuff, and voila, you got yourself a dragon blood creature which you can conveniently use to destroy a sect you hate.

Would recommend it to someone who is willing to wait for it to get deeper. Seriously, I think I should have given 3/5.

WDQK is basically average. It is the average Xianxia Protagonist, facing the same problems every Xianxia protagonist faces. The only real difference between this and the torrents of other work is that his family is alive... And he doesn't go around killing everyone for looking at him wrong... at least not yet. I do like the cultivation scheme, and the fact that for him, Family is First. I also like the fact he wasn't a waste or a cripple at the beginning, and even though he had a cheat object,... more>> he still put in masses of hard work. Thats probably why I've decided to keep reading this series, despite the fact I only rated it 3 stars.

Xianxia all the way, all the tropes quickly appear.

MC trains from weak to strong, finds a magical artifact, conflicts with another family, finds magical beast, spirit teacher, finds a natural talent for something, pure romantic relation with special other.

Still is an enjoyable story, pretty recommendable read.

Another Xianxia novel. It has the typical setting, main character is usually regarded as a tr*sh, and tragedy has befallen his family. Needless to say while it is a typical setting it is well written and doesn't feel rushed in the least. It's worth checking out just due to the fact that while they all have the same start, they all have a different path.

All in all, well written story with good pacing. Highly recommended to at least check out a few chapters (at least 10-15).
