It’s a great story, I think, but... There’s a certain story element (event?) that occurred pretty far in (chapter 80+ I think) that ruined it for me. Plenty of OP to go around, in a less obnoxious way than usual.

As for what made me stop reading it... (semi-spoiler for untranslated chapters, several arcs in)

Spoiler

The realization of the harem just ruined it for me. Not the fact that there was a harem–I can deal with that–but the way things played out. To me it felt like the author kept on shoving the fact that the girls’ relationship with the MC had become s*xual in the readers’ faces ALL THE TIME. It got to the point where I couldn’t even skip over those parts because it was mixed in with most of the normal (pre-romance) content.

After the harem was realized, the rest of the story (battles, training, even new characters) became inseparable from it. As a result, I’ve stopped reading it (mostly lost interest) ; however, other than that, highly recommended.

A story that started off strong but then it seems like the author ran out of ideas and decided to follow a crappy formula. By arc 13, the MC ends up being a giant push over whose only good at cooking -- to the point of having basically anyone who eats his cakes turn into fanatics who can't get enough. It also seems like there is no end of people harassing them for having beautiful girls. We get it, the girls are very pretty. And they use the same jokes... more>> over and over and over (cake, food, brush, spoiling, attack because look weak etc.). Around arc 14, you start to see character regression. Well established characters will suddenly act differently for the sake of adding drama that would have been solved very quickly if the characters were behaving like they normally do. <<less

It's one of the story which I enjoy overall but halfway through, the spark I felt from re-reading the story over and over again kinda lost. I'm not sure if it could possibly be because of the new translator taking over but the lines and sentences don't flow as well anymore, making it hard for me to be immersed in the story like when Defiring did it. Translations aside, I do still enjoy the plot and all the characters are really likable so I'll still give it a 5. Might... more>> change as I continue reading on but I'll have to force myself to go through the chapters first. <<less

Great series! Was depressed b/c I ran out of things to read so I looked at other people who reviewed books similar to mine and found this series. The initial translations are not as great but it's a great otherworld / OP / growth through hardworking story. Picks up at 7, slows down at 14.

the guy looks really s*upid to me, because after the MC lives a full life to old age he does not show the wisdom of an old man with years of experience but looks more like a teenager going through puberty.

Yet another story i've dropped because the cliched isekai pattern of "visit new town>know new harem member>generic villain or natural disaster happens with the new harem member and the sidekicks>MC curbstomps the problem and go to the next town" this gets rubbed so hard in your face it became you could sue the author for s*xual harassment of our inteligence.

For someone whose motivation was teaching in this new world and living as a bystander instead of a warrior like his past life, problems and generic villains come with such a... more>> frequency to get punched by him it becomes a joke.

The only good things this novel has going for it are the side chapters of a certain gramps adventuring to meet with the MC and f*cking things up on his way and best pupper hokuto daily life at the end of every chapter once he's introduced, the main story could burn for all that I care

Characters: the author lies to you making they seem deep but after the first arc everyone becomes as bland of a trope as they come
Setting: generic isekai

This story has been rather interesting and fun for me to read. However, I have to say that there are a lot of points to criticize as well. This is one of those stories where the MC is supposed to be some very experienced and old super soldier who dodges bullets and can achieve anything if he wants to. Then, on top of that, he gains some OP magic skills and stomps over everything. All of this is just so that this MC could then gain ladies (more accurately, little... more>> girls and an elf) like some teenage wet dream version of James Bond, hoarding them like I hoard my Nekopara figu... I mean... wait...

Either the target audience for this story is young teenagers or the author is one. The plot is well developed, characters are somewhat unique and interesting and overall writing style isn't terrible so I guess the author has some skills, but I can't imagine this being aimed at young teenagers either due to the excessive love making scenes which come when the harem has been established. Then again, those scenes are so childish as well that I can't really tell...

Can be rather fun to read, but definitely isn't a quality reading experience. <<less

Sorry, this story could be great, but it's only worth 3/5 after the horrible drop in translation quality and the horrible character development. Currently Defiring provided the best translation, but dropped the story at chapter 30 (I, personally, stick with it until chapter 88). After that it's just badly translated sentences that sometimes you need to re-read to get the main point and untranslated Japanese terms, that a good translator can implement into English without loosing the main meaning behind all the "-samas" and "anikis". The problem with this story... more>> is that the main character is not only overqualified fighter, which is understandable seeing his past, but that he is also the best dad ever, major in philosophy, best cook in the world - because when assassins meet their main topic in conversation is how to best make as many different type of cakes and sweets and other foods. Or it might be that every isekai/reinkarnation Japanese novel author needs to stroke his ego by always including how great their food is. It's not that food isn't good, it'ts just that you would not expect assassin know how to cook like master chef, what with all the daily training and killing he had to do. As I explain in spoiler tags (which contain the spoilers of story, but points out exactly which points feel forced) our main character acts like some hero who faces demon lord and give the final speech of friendship and never giving up and morals, every time he faces enemy that has a bit more character than faceless thug/mu*derer/child r*per Nr. 88 (which he kills without batting an eye, which is in line with his character - thus good). While those other character fights are 3/6 talking 2/6 fighting while holding back all his power, every time and finally 1/6 finishing his opponent and lamenting about life - again... not what ruthless assassins would be all about.

Spoiler

Besides that I'm kinda getting tired of Sirius as a inconsistent character. It's quite clear that he has personality disorder. He can kill in cold blood, but suddenly when his own disciple is in trouble, instead of killing source of troubles the Holy knight who creates the fire to sustain the wolf. He just lets him free. If I can figure out that to kill the wolf you need to destroy the source of his immortality, he as master fighter/assassin should be able too. Not to mention that it's clear that Holy knight has done things worse than other people Sirius have killed and this time his disciple is even in trouble. Besides that, every time he fights he goes in hero mode. Aka he goes into lengthy explanation of his and his oponents morals before killing him. You would think that the first rule of battlefield is cleanly kill enemy and not discuss philosophy with them (as in case of that mu*der dragon group in labyrinth and that noble + mercenary who attacked academy.) That said, I already had problems with characters spontaneously changing personality 180 degree with one sentence from our master assassin (who apparently is best parent ever, which is strange if you think about his previous profession even with his apprentices), besides that the change is instantaneous as if someone flipped the "be good/normal and love Sirius" switch. There is no brooding and decisions. "hey! I'm sad!" - random sad person. "Don't be sad, here is some profound life advice, that I have no rights knowing" - Sirius. "Oh thanks, I'm no longer sad about my parents horrible death and my time as s*ave is all past me, I can now love you with all my mind and body for some reason." - random person who now is basically a loyal brainwashed s*ave. I can skip and ignore the bad character development in favor of just going on with the story, but when this bad character developments starts moving plot along it gets tiresome.

[collapse]

Now to the part on why 3 stars not 1 or 2. If you go by Defiring translation and only focus only plot and world building while ignoring all those strange inconsistencies, the story is still kinda good. It's genuinely funny at some point and might be sad at others. The author has still put in effort, so I can be like other people and just rate 1 star every story I drop or dislike. A 1 star story for me is gibberish with no plot or logical sense. Thus it is still likable to some extent, but after c88 and the new developments, my immersion is already destroyed and I just want to skip chapters. Thus I dropped it. <<less

I'm 10 chapters in and the 5 yr old MC already gets an elf over 200 years old promising herself to him. I know this is a story but I dont think any woman in their right mind would consider a 5 year old a prospective lover no matter how talented he is or will be in the future.

I enjoyed the story at the beginning, but didn't care for it later on. The emphasis shifted more and more to a second "main character" and I didn't think this "second character" was interesting enough to carry the story as a lead character. I lost interest in the story after the switch. The story development went downhill so much later that a lot of readers complained to the author about it. It's a shame really. Apparently he didn't want to change anything. I hope an editor can convince the author... more>> to make major changes before the light novels reach that point. <<less

This is an excellent reincarnation story due to how the reviewers said below the focus isn't necessarily on the MC and his skills but rather him as a teacher.

It's a mature read that feels nice to read and I can't really say any more about it other than it is a nice read that deserves a littler more love than it has currently.

So yes read it you won't be disappointed if you go into wanting to read about a teacher connecting with his students and slowly building a reputation for... more>> himself and students <<less

I think the interesting of this story is about the way of MC's teaching; not how strong he is. Somehow it reminds me of Manga History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. The way he train them; protect them; and revenge on those who hurt his disciples too =]]x.

One of the first novels I've read on this site way back in 2015. I liked the premise of MC being a former agent now being an op protagonist.

The characters are annoying and have a one dimensional personality. MC feels like a boring stand in for edgy people to immerse themselves in their fantasies.

But story seriously started getting boring during the school arc and slowly but surely started revealing it's flaws that totally made me want to drop this story.

There's definitely better novels out there than this.

I will say that this is probably the best world building I have ever seen in an Isekai or any fantasy world outside of the legendary Log Horizon. The title is a bit misleading in the fact that there is barely any teaching going on in this WN however these are some of the most multifaceted characters I have ever seen.

Spoiler

I have reservations about reading the WN past Volume 12 a.k.a. The Silverwolf Tribe chapter, mostly because of the added characters. To be fair I don't have an issue with previous characters added to the trope because they have clearly and deeply connecting backstories (Hokuto in particular) but it feels like adding to the MC's harem for the sake of it.

[collapse]

Read this if you are interested in:

    • A Main Character that is likable, overpowered yet not overwhelming and multifaceted
    • A cast of (mostly) similarly multifaceted characters
    • An adventure story similar to the shounens of yore
    • Multiple perspectives from past characters sprinkled in for flavor and worldbuilding
    • Stylish fight scenes where you can keep track of what is going on for once

World Teacher is one of the popular story in Narou, even I like it when I started reading this. Being an OP mature person, being a teacher, having a disciples, I think this is a very interesting plot.

Spoiler

The growth period shows how our MC explore magic, and some places while dealing with some problems with his family. The school arc shows how the disciples grew. Then now is the adventure stage where they will reunite with the elf at the first chapters.

[collapse]

BUT, it gotten so boring. You see our MC wants to be a teacher but he didn't even bother increase his disciples using normal method, or rather he didn't take action to look for person to teach, but rather only chose who he can be a companion But the biggest factor that bored me to death, is the unending praise in each chapter. "As expected of Sirus-sama" there "As expected of Aniki" here. It came to the point where the chapters just became a situation for MC to show off while also having a very slow slice of life that full of praise again. <<less

A guilty pleasure to say the least

Not the worst, but not the best. Just slightly above average, I have read novels worse that I got brain seizures after dropping it in a few chapters so this has higher quality than those sh*t isekais.

It is mostly slice-of-life so don't complain about the story too much when it does have plot progression since it did better than other generic isekai. Look at gun-ota ruining itself just because of a few chapters, this has none of the character breaking s*upidity to force plot... more>> progression in the recent chapters.

The battle scenes are great, f*ck I endured far worse battle scenes from generic CN novels with doing nothing but shouting "HHHAAAAA TASTE MY SPECIAL MOVE 1, IMPOSSIBLE HE BROKE IT? TASTE MY SPECIAL MOVE 2 etc." At least there are still xianxia novels that are still good if you look hard enough.

The harem is fine tbh, there are worse novels with beta MCs pushed around like the cuckold faggot he is, the harem has character and the MC is a bona fide alpha male so expect none pf the passiveness of beta mcs. <<less

This story is interesting in the beginning but grows increasingly stale as time goes on. Almost all the arcs follow a very similar trend, which the MC stumbles upon a damsel in distress, agrees to help, beats the hell out of the bad guys, and maybe killing a few in the process, then continues his journey along with his companions. If I'm not wrong, none of the arcs are written with the MC as the center of the plot, he simply just gets dragged into trouble that he wasn't supposed... more>> to be a part of time and again, then deals with them so easily that almost no tension can be felt at all in places that should have been, due to his and his companions' overwhelming strength. Him being too strong in itself is not a bad thing, its just that the villains are so shallow that strength is all that's really needed to be used to save the day, making it a very disappointing read for me.

Spoiler

It also does not help that he has such a conveniently strong wolf/dog as his companion which understands human language, is about as strong as the MC himself, agrees to pull all of the MC's belongings in a carriage, and will never ever betray him. The introduction of Hokuto just killed the story for me.

The teacher was the world's best secret agent and gave his life at age 60 to save his beloved students in his last job. He's reincarnated in another world and raises siblings and teaches them how to defend themselves. Sounds good right? Except for the MC who is supposed to be ~70 years old total now is written and acts like what a young person thinks an old person is like completely destroying the entire premise of the entire story.

The MC acts and feels like a 20 year old stuck... more>> in a teenagers body. The story is slowly paced and the MC is a stereotypical Japanese MC do gooder who is also an extremely passive doormat. Usually, only the MC is OP but in this story, both the MC and his students are so incredibly OP that the tension comes from the MC seeing life threatening threats coming at him and deciding that he's gotta be passive and waits to do nothing until after the damage has been done. Has too many Japanese MC cliches and fails with too many stereotypes, all women want to be with him, all men want to be him.

The story also shifts the character focus later on to side characters who you really don't care about. It feels like the author was grasping at straws because they ran out of ideas and didn't really plan out where this story was headed.

Write what you know, if you don't know what you're writing about it shows. So please if you're going to be an author at least do some homework and research to make your setting and characters more relatable to normal human beings on the planet Earth. <<less

How do I say this... rather than a past life as the best agent, I think the MC seems more like a doting grandpa who really loved spy/assassin movies and (possibly) did some kind of martial art. He just has way too little information that comes up too infrequently for me to buy it. Don't get me wrong; I love the story. I love how much it focuses in building family love rather than harem love between him and the other characters. If I'm going to get angry at him... more>> being a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, I'd have to be angry at just about every light novel. Though I would like to see some real conflict soon.

All in all, I still think it's worlds better than Death March, where all semblance of a plot disappeared a few volumes in. And, most importantly, this is building a harem in a way that I -a girl- don't absolutely detest seeing as the female characters are allowed to have emotions and personalities instead of just being a walking T&A.

If I had one criticism, it would be that the author seems to get lazier with new character creation as the story goes on. Once the school arc hits, I just don't feel the same level of care in fleshing out all sides of the characters' personalities and motivations. <<less

Decidedly Average. Nothing about this story stands out particularly. Would be interesting to someone new to the genre but turns out incredibly boring to someone who's read a few stories already.

The MC is reincarnated into a new world and is decidedly OP in every single way, to the point where I can safely say he's a Mary Sue. 43 chapters in and he has not come across a single conflict challenging to him. He waves his hands and solves pretty much every problem, whether it's beating down antagonists or healing... more>> injuries. Initially, the premise showed some promise when it was thought that the MC might not be able to use magic correctly. But nope, on top of his already OP previous life skills, his magic is super OP in this world as well. There are no gaps.

All of the side characters are wooden and one-dimensional. The entirety of their characters can be summed up as 1) Cute and 2) likes MC. THAT'S IT. MC also has an intentionally dense reaction to all of this. He notices but doesn't do anything. 43 chapters in, no progression in any direction at all. <<less
