It's just your average, typical Wuxia cultivating novel. Nothing new and nothing fresh. MC just kills, gets stronger, finds treasures and flirts with almost every girl.

I've read many Chinese Novels and if you've read a lot as well you could easily tell how super cliché this is. Its easy to figure out the Author was trying to hard the first 1-70 chapters or so. He fails in making good Villains. Super cliché Villains. Everything he gets is to 'Convenient'. Its just not written well. It feels like reading Amateur work.

I... more>> really like the world setting and ranking system. Its easy and cool to understand. I am in this story for the Alchemy. Its like a cooking fight but with Herbs. 3-4 Chapters = Every Arc. Too fast..

The Romance is just terrible. At first I thought "Aww this guy is loyal to his fiancé!" but every girl he meets is always described as beautiful. And the Harem is ridiculous big and keeps getting bigger as you read. Some of the ideas the Author has aren't bad. But this story seriously needs some hard polishing and rewritten. He needs to think Bigger.. It would had probably been better more Alchemy based then focused on Action. "World Defying Dan God" really suits this Story when its about alchemy. <<less

This author knows OP.

Once you start it grabs your attention and even though it follows the regular Weak-to-strong template, it is doing so in way that it summarizes the training part which usually has some gibberish that makes no sense.

So damn repetitive. I pulled myself together many times just to continue reading since I don't like to stop halfway but in the end it was so not worth it. The climax was such a letdown, wasted weeks. Felt like the Author milked the cow far beyond its lifespan and one day suddenly realised that the cow was dead a long time ago and suddenly stopped and left.

Acutally it is not the best novel, but it is fun to read. Atleast better than some more annoying novels out there,

There are lots of fun, good and bad, actually can give 4/5...

I accidently gave 5/5..

... more>> Its ok doesn't matter.

I like the war of 3realms plot, nine heavens devouring the realms. And also some different things like pill spirit's ability, his nine doom nirvana tribultation. And also assasinating using poison.

Don't have any expectations, just read it when you got no novels left, lol

------++++++++

Why the novel is streching..? Is it because Nine sun God king gave blow to author?/?? <<less

Just finished reading... took months to finally finish this novel. Overall it wasn't a bad read, but it also didn't really stand out. There were no real face slap moments, the MC spent the entire book getting chased and bullied. The minute he had enough power to fight back, he would head to a higher realm and be at the bottom again. Ascending to higher realms is pretty standard for cultivation novels, but usually the MC clears up all the loose ends first, i.e. he kills the people who have... more>> been chasing him the entire arc. In WDDG it never feels like he actually cleans up the bad guys, they just kind of go away or he leaves it for someone else to deal with. The novel reads more like a slice of life where nothing important really happens, then all of a sudden MC finds that he is super under powered and wanted by everyone. He doesn't cultivate until he is forced to, ever. Then he invents some pill that can magically break through.
Spoiler

Now for cultivation, the cultivation doesn't ever really happen. In the beginning he had a cultivation technique and direction, but then he decides to just give it all up. There is no consistent techniques and parts of his power and cultivation get left out and totally forgotten all the time. They are just there to make someone exclaim that he is awesome, but then he never uses it. So many interesting elements just cast aside. He spends the whole novel running from one important quest to another and never stops and cultivates. Meanwhile, his friends and harem spend the whole novel developing and cultivating, so that anytime he returns. usually after several faithful encounters, he finds that he is either at equivalent cultivation or lower. Don't even get me started on time skips. Every time the MC goes to a different zone, time works differently, usually to his detriment. The MC will be gone a year to find out that 10, 000 years have passed, meaning that the whole world has long since left him behind. I know what you are thinking, as an MC he should be totally bad a$$ and just be able to mow down people with similar or higher cultivation like its no big deal... well he can't and doesn't, especially towards the end of the novel.

Now for fighting, the MC can and does kick some a$$ in the beginning of the novel, but then he just kind of gives up. There are very few fights, they usually are over very quickly, and they fall into two categories: either weaker than him, so he just instakills them, usually with sneak attacks, or stronger than him so the chase begins. Towards the end he even starts ganging up on people... If you want a bad a$$ MC with awesome fights, then this isn't your novel.

Alchemy. Well the MC is an alchemist, an amazing alchemist, at least in the beginning. For thousands of chapters they harp on the fact that he always uses all the ingredients, so that he can refine better quality and quantity with each batch. Towards the end they get rid of this whole concept, pills are only one per batch. It even gets to the point where he refines something to refine pills for him... Then there is the constant alchemy competitions. Is he an amazing alchemist? Sure. Does he win every contest that he enters? Of course. Do the judges always try to make him lose, making the competition unfair? You better believe it. Is the MC a morally upright individual who uses his own skill to win anyway? No. In the beginning it was all him, then he starts cheating by having people help him in the competitions, but he never once ponders about this fact or if he should cheat. So wait, the novel called the world defying dan god has an MC who cheats during alchemy competitions? Good thing this isn't a novel where alchemy plays a very center role.... oh wait that's right it's kinda the only consistent thing in the entire story, well that and all the people who he befriends being women, with very few exceptions. Women who spends hundreds of chapters with him, then he drops them off at harem village, so that he has empty party slots in case he meets any hotties... Don't worry about never seeing them again, they usually get a mention when he drops the next batch off at harem town. Also, as an amazing alchemist he has to be rich right? Especially when he constantly invents better pills for cultivation, but no our MC is always tragically poor, because he uses up tons of money and he can never sell his pills. Partly because no MC ever understands economics, but mainly because every area he goes to, the alchemists are either screwing the population or some big power is controlling the alchemists.

Then there is the ending... well not really even an ending. It is as bad as if the author was told to wrap it up in two chapters, but he had already written both of them, so he tacked on a couple sentences at the end... There was no epilogue, just we win roll credits. I could be wrong considering the last chapter I found was chapter 3820 on babel novel and novel updates says that there are 3862 chapters.

Overall, it was a decent read, but it went downhill fast towards the end of the novel, so if you have a lot of time and nothing to read, then give this a shot. Just realize that it is very s;ow paced and you will. most likely have to read it mtl. The key to mtl reading is don't think, feel lol.

It had great potential, but as I kept reading, it became boring and frustrating. About the 600 to 700 chapter, I started to skip the majority of the chapters. Since, I invested in the story for so long, I tried forcing myself to continue reading, but I could not. The rinse and repeat formula become more frequent as the story continued. Examples of rinse in repeating,

-offends great power, enemies accumulate over time

-meets beauty, quickly conquers her heart

... more>> -many pill concocting tournaments, which MC does not really need to participate

-the few martial arts tournaments, when MC wins, older generation becomes involved

-gambling, because MC is underestimated

For some spoilers

Spoiler

One of the reasons the story kept me interested was the future "war" of the Three Realms. The MC seemed to be getting stronger to protect his Realm. However, the great war was anything but, which was underwhelming. The MC has techniques and a weapon that is extra deadly to demons. So, MC was able to quickly slaughtered many demons. As long as MC does no ascend to a higher Realm, he could kill most demons. Actually, the MC needs to become stronger to fight against humans. The humans are a bigger threat to MC than the devils and demons, so why the extreme animosity towards most demons? Besides, the only way devils and demons are able to cause humans problems is with the assistance of humans themselves.

The MC does not need to attend most pill concocting tournaments. He rarely gains much from winning the tournaments, besides offending strong powers. Most of the important ingredients he gains come from many, and I mean many fortuitous encounters. The MC has two knowledgeable pill masters (excluding the dragon) inside his ring, with a cheat technique that allows him to grow any rare herb/flower faster than normal.

The MC has offended so many sects now, that it is hard to keep count. Yet, he is unable to eradicate any threat and his enemies continue to accumulate. Also, no matter how many strong cultivators MC kills, they continue to antagonize MC and never stop spawning. I understand each superpower has many strong cultivators, but so many of their elders are killed by MC, there has to be rival sects waiting on them as well to attack. Somehow, it seems most sects have had a good relationship, instead of a check and balance one.

I could continue, but it will take longer to explain, so I will stop.

A novel that has the best of pill refinement description... ✨✨✨✨

It has a glorious harem....✨✨✨✨

The description of the various characters is epic...✨✨✨✨

The only downside is that I have heard that the MC loses interest in his harem companions only to find new ones without much background.... This a major flaw to a great story with a great cultivation system... ?

I give this novel 4.4/5 ✨✨✨✨the low score is because he does not treasure his adopted sister✨✨✨✨ Also the rediculously slow translating speed

The story is generic xianxia, nothing new but still it can be good to past time. I just dropped it though because lately he had a pet which is hidden and keep on saying embarrassing stuff with the same voice as him (like 'I want to sleep with you, I love your ass, you' ll be my woman). That's the 3-4th in a dozen chapters or so, so it seems the author is gonna use the pet as en excuse for MC to flirt with every girl he comes across.... more>> I became fed up with those bad harems made to satisfy the fantasy of 12yo boys. I can bear with it for good ones like TDG where the story is more complex than just making every beauty fall on mc's lap. The pet is a real kid, annoying and stuff so it killed my interest. <<less

So this novel... well if you want a standard xianxia I would say go ahead and read it. The only real unique thing I like about this how the MC is practicing both the good and bad ways for cultivating. he's using both devil and immortal skills which is nice.

Nothing else really to say. the MC was tr*sh found a ring with two beauties in it who gave him divine veins letting him cultivate and them he begins the journey to become the best. like no one ever was

Initial insights at ch800:

After going though some chapters my final decision is that this novel is truly bad, despite giving the reader some hope.

At the beginning I just thought it's an easy read. I admit, it is readable. It does not repulse you straight away. Wanted to give it 2-3 stars. However... it's a grower. And not into the right direciton.

Plot/arcs lack any tension whatsoever. MC just goes and solves things without really using brain - he is usually carried by plot armour provided by his hidden sidekicks. Some novels,... more>> especially from newbie authors, get better over time with their plot. This one somehow gets worse (or maybe I'm just losing patience...).

Power levels and alchemy don't make sense. Also, the levelling itself is so fast and random that it doesn't feel meaningful/earned.

MC has so many superpowers and exquisite techniques that just a few would be enough. Yet the author, instead of showing how MC relies on a proper usage of his arsenal, pulls more and more divine tricks out of the hat.

Some reviewers have mentioned romance.... honestly, what romance? There is no romance in this novel. The only romance that MC knows is 12-yo-style slight s3xu@l harassment. Every chick is pretty much throwing herself at MC

EDIT c2065:

The story becomes haremified into oblivion. MC chitchats with his chicks most of the time. Sometimes it takes more than a chapter. Not only are those chitchats badly written but it horribly slows down the story. <<less

I've enjoyed it quite a bit, the series set me up to expect mostly alchemy from the title and while it's a major portion of the story, it isn't the only point.

The story itself is pretty standard, it took a few turns but overall it's what I expected from a cultivation novel, MC gets something rare, people want it and chase him down, meets girls and decent people and slowly gets stronger while dealing with the problems of the world.

That's all fine but it starts to fall down once we... more>> hit the top levels.

MC has a great weapon that is legendary? It's just meh at the next level.

MC has a great cultivation technique? It's what everyone has at the next level but somehow isn't passed down to the lower levels, when those upper level people constantly go into the lower level worlds.

MC hit a new legendary power level? Here's 10 different factions that have 100s of people at that level at minimum that just suddenly appear.

I enjoyed it as the MC had a lot of problems to solve, trying to get back to his friends/family/women etc

It just hit a point where it got lazy as this setup happened one after another, MC gets to a new area and meets a female, they interact/conflict a bit but are cool with each other, her family is full of people that wanna steal MC's stuff so she so ends up 'betraying' her family for him. It just felt so lazy.

I personally like the harem aspect of this, one of MC's main objectives is to raise the power level of all his women, but it reaches a point where he interacts with them a few times and then they're barely mentioned again. It could have been so much more. He has a harem of at least 40 women, they'll be introduced, have their mini-arc, get put into his harem town, then he might sleep with them 400-2000 chapters later.

I didn't like how things are dropped too, it was mentioned that if he combines his bloodlines then something might happen, never mentioned again. All his previous enemies that harmed him/his friends/family, once he gets stronger, he rarely sorts them out as he moves onto the next big enemy/area. Things do get brought up long after they're relevant at times but it's very rare.

So many loose ends never get tied up, I enjoyed it but thinking over it, I enjoyed other ones more especially "Grasping Evil", they both feel similar but it felt like a much better story in GE. <<less

I really enjoyed this novel. I loved it so much that even after reading 3800+ chapters, I didn't want it to end.

It has its pros and its cons like all other novels.

This is the novel with the worst translation I ever read, starting from chapter 500something onwards. It resulted in many hilarious translations errors that I enjoyed. Plus, it took me much longer then normal to read it.

The site they translated from had such wierd censorship that even the kissing scenes were cut, but there was no problem writing all... more>> sorts of vulgar curses. *Sigh* So many romantic scenes were left untold.

One dimensional villians will always appear in these kind of novels and l skipped quite a few boring paragraphs when the villians were rambling.

I started the novel when I read a comment saying fights were quick, but I don't agree. It's just they weren't dragged out and written very well. I loved all the fights, except the last one.

Quite a few little plot holes that don't really affect the story, but just bring down the power of MC to keep it balanced. If his powers weren't toned down than he would been too overpowered, and the story will end quicker so I don't really mind.

I went with the thinking that I will skip the pill refining and cultivation paragraphs and enjoy the fights and comedy and romance. However, I only skipped rarely, because I liked the pill refining alot. Both cultivation and pill refining were quite interesting until the end.

The MC has a lot of women and instead of thinking he has too many, I end up feeling he didn't eat the tofu of a lot of women he could. This happened specially after him leaving the divine wasteland/desolation, (lol whatever the name is,) to go that world with the divine soil.

Comedy was great, fights great, alchemy great, lots of romance and so many chapters. Really my type of novel.

Bdw the ending was rushed. As, just when I was expecting a few hundred chapters more, It suddenly ended in a couple of chapters. Except for feeling a little regret that it ended, I have no complaints.

Wait, I have one, the mystery of his crimson dragon's and his relation wasn't explained properly. <<less

BEWARE as of chapters 466 it's all machine translated so please bear in mind for slight headache.

story wise it's pretty interesting for xianxia genre, there's a comedy, little bit naughty moment and romance
all in all it's a generic xianxia novel with usual plot and setting but still there's it's own charm to make it an interesting read.

well until it got machine translated tho, at least if they edit it with previous translator quality then it's fine, but I think they just want to churn up a steady chapters with... more>> no regards to quality. <<less

First half of the novel is really good. Around the 1.5k chapter mark MC suddenly becomes a monk and barely accepts an new harem members even though in the first half he was collecting them like he was collecting pokemon cards. Some of the missed female leads were actually very good and I wished MC just added them into him already massive harem as what more can one do if you already have over 30. The ending was ok not good but not bad and overall the novel is solid... more>> and I very much enjoyed reading it even if the last 1k chapters were a grind to get through a solid 4/5 for first 1.5k chapters and 3.5/5 for 1.5k+. <<less

A light-hearted novel with little to no dark theme. The story is basically a guy who cultivates by primarily cooking better dan. At one point, he built a home in his realm, where his harem gathered. He often got lost in different realm (or new arc) and befriend new waifu whom later help improve his home powerhouse.

I think this is a good read for people who got tired of most CN plot where the author force MC into dire strait just for sake of plot. This novel actually treated... more>> story better, since most of the things turned out to be fine without MC intervention.

For example, waifus can fend off villains on their own. Most youth or uncle strangers who approach MC aren't another pe*verts. Waifu aren't kidnapped just because they're beautiful. There are actually good strangers (other MC and to-be FMC) in this world... <<less
