It actually is really a tragedy for the MC and not ML to be honest.

the ML dies at the end. Though he suffered for 3 years reminiscing MC after he pushed her from the cliff but can it justify the pain that MC suffered and will suffer after MLs death with all those memories. ML knew assassins were after him and still he spent time MC. Atleast he dies with memories of days he spent with MC. But I guess she brought it on herself. She shouldn't have saved him at all.

ML basically push FL off of a cliff just to marry a daughter of a wealthy person or a sect leader. He also got married after "killing" FL which he regrets after. He blames all of his misfortune i.e death of FL on to his wife and kills her.

Then he runs away so as to not let the wife's father kill him and finds FL.

This is where I hate ML the most. I am pretty sure that FL had already moved on in her life and forgotten about ML. Maybe she would marry some good guy in the future or stay single all her life, I could guarantee that she would be happy.

But the appearance of ML ruined her entire life and happiness. She again fell in love with ML and he then was killed by his wife's father.

FL is the real victim in this story.

I really feel pity for the ML's wife too. She may have given ML a choice to either marry her by killing his love or forget about her but it was ML's own choice to kill FL for his greed. <<less

Filing this under "Finished but Would Never Ever Read Again" folder.

Honestly I can't bring myself to give this a higher rating than 2 and that's just solely for the translator for doing a swell job.

Ultimately the ML was still a selfish prick by choosing to become a martyr in the end just to keep his conscience clean and make himself feel better.A more brilliant ending would have been if the FL had died because then that would be the supreme penance for all his wrong doings since his biggest fear... more>> is never seeing her again. I'd much have rather seen his regret last the rest of his lifetime than see Xue Cao live out the rest of hers with his half assed apologies and s*upidly useless self sacrifice. I mean she wouldn't have been in danger in the first place had he not forced himself to stick to her, the daft prick.

He left her to suffer his absence for the remainder of her life knowing full well what he meant to her despite her poor treatment of him. Until the very end he chose his ego so that his memory will forever haunt her. What a joke. A man who easily betrays a loved one for ambition does not deserve to be remembered fondly. Nothing to romanticize about a man like su mo. He can suck it in hell. <<less

As for the premise of the story I don't believe it. I don't want to believe that there can be someone who can love another this much and not realise it at all and still be able to kill them with their own hands. It makes for a good story, but I want to believe no one is this s*upid

The story and the writing are really good. It just shows the different struggles one could come across in their life. Where you get hurt so much but still love the other person. Or where you hurt the other person but realised you love them after you lost them.

In this story, the most unfortunate one is Xue Cao. I don't care what anyone else says! She gets used, then thrown off a cliff when Su Mo doesn't need her anymore, then he goes back to her after he got all... more>> his riches and fame that he wanted but realised he would rather have XC next to him instead. That's just selfish. Ugly ugly ugly selfishness.

And where does he get his nerve to act like he was some sort of hero who saves the damsel in distress when they got attacked by the assassins HIS father-in-law sent after HIM??? He is the sole reason they were attacking them. It wasn't enough for him to disturb her peace, he even had to go out of the safety of their remote house to a town when his enemy is the jianghu's big shot. He might as well just go to his enemy and wave at them and tell them he's still alive.

It's just like a reader mentioned in the previous reviews - SM might have been all happy finding XC and living with her for a while, but it must have been absolute torture for XC. She had to relieve her worst moments again and again and again just because he couldn't let he leave peacefully even after throwing her off a cliff. Then he even had the nerve to pretend to be weak and keep pushing her into falling even further for him. It must be agonising to have to live with the person you once loved, you probably still love, they more or less killed you, but you find yourself still loving him.

What is XC supposed to do with his apologies? If apologies could make it possible for her to go back in time and not be thrown off a cliff, they'd have a bit of use. But she can't even get revenge because she still loves him. And his apologies only make her relieve those happenings.

It's a well-written one-shot. The translator did a good job too translating this. It's just that the FL is too miserable. She's too kind-hearted.

I hate the fact that I got moved a bit by ML who seemed genuinely tried to make amends of his past action but the thing is no matter what he did, he couldn't.


Even when the scumbag ML took the initiative to kill himself at the end, at least he died, putting an end to the guilt he was suffering, meanwhile FL continuing her life amidst the nightmare of betrayal and longing the presence that she inadvertently got used to.

The only way to atone is getting killed by FL, but then again she is too kind. She just doesn't have villain dna. Even her 'torture' didn't feel like a torture for him. Sigh.

My gods this is painful

The senses of longing, regret, hate, sorrow and of course love show themselves in every word written.

The FL is too kind for her own good, she really tries to be mad & hating & resentful towards the ML but cannot & it makes everything 10 times more sad.

The ML is so selfish, but he regrets it & tries to be kind & understanding towardsthe FL but in the end, he simply can't. He pushes more & more misery onto her. But he really is trying, which... more>> makes it hard for me to hate him

The story is good. I thank the translator of this novel and the original author. Usually for this kind of story, the leads would have their happy ending for the 2nd time that they meet however it's not the case here. It's more realistic though. I feel the love but I also understand that once trust is broken, it's really hard to have it back and once chased by assassins, no matter how mighty you are, it doesn't mean that you'll be back alive just like the other stories. I... more>> have mix emotions and until now I can't fully explain them. I understand why the story went like this but I'm also sad and regretful for the love that hadn't born any fruit. However, I still wish them a happy ending. May it be that Sumo comes back alive and be together with Xue Cao or in their afterlife. If possible too, I hope they'll be together in their next life. <<less

My heart and my eyes have been squeezed dry. I'm still sniffling while writing this. This is a really tragic love story. The type that you would want to have a fanfiction dedicated to changed the ending to a happy one. It's always the one shots that serves the most heart wrenching stories

Edit: My brain decided to recap this story in my head so here am I. I really wish there was a fanfiction of this where it's an HE. :- (

A tear jerking story. The ML wanted power, to achieve it he sacrificed the MC, and offered it to the goddess who ensured his rise in power. Soon after he regreted all he did, three years later by some miracle, he met the MC again. This time, he tried to make it up to her. But his past wrongs came between them, he had to leave her again, this time for good.

MC is left alone, to reminisce, to go on, all alone.
