Why Is This Omega So Alpha?

After two weeks of intense work, Lu Heng collapsed and died suddenly in his apartment.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself cornered by a group of teenagers, surrounded by unpleasant odors.

One of them smugly reached out to touch Lu Heng’s face.

Lu Heng also raised his hand and punched the other’s jaw.

Jiang Yunxing transmigrated into the ABO novel he had just finished reading, becoming the story’s protagonist gong.

At this moment, the protagonist shou was supposed to be watching the second male lead confront the villain, and Jiang Yunxing was meant to rush over and take the protagonist shou away from the second male lead.

Without hesitation, Jiang Yunxing hurried over with suppressants, only to witness a scene completely different from the original plot.

The bullying second male lead Alpha lay sprawled on the ground, with the supposedly bullied villain Omega stepping on his stomach with his worn sneakers.

Jiang Yunxing: “…” This development seemed off.

When the Omega looked his way, Jiang Yunxing timidly offered the suppressants.

The Omega gave him a cold look before grabbing his collar. “You’re too young to be messing around. Think drugs are something you should touch?”

Jiang Yunxing: “…”

One look confirmed it: they were both transmigrators.

Later, Jiang Yunxing sat in the backseat of eighteen-year-old Lu Heng’s luxury car, listening to him negotiate with a company chairman over the phone, questioning his reality.

Wasn’t this supposed to be a young adult campus redemption story?!

Umm, how do I say this, I guess in term of romance, I can rate this story a 4 star (coz the relationship progress actually make sense and their last scene together was really sweet!) but in term of plot, it's 2 star maybe 3 star if I'm being generous cox there are waaaayyy too many plot holes and loose ends smh (-_-')

If you can tolerate the plot holes and is only in this for a straightforward romance between the MC and ML, this story is for you, but... more>> if you're the type that is particular about the world setting and extra characters backstory/development then this story is not for you...

The romance:

While there is a power imbalance between MC and ML with the former being the more powerful one, their relationship is honestly healthy enough for ppl who never had romantic relationships before...

MC is bold, assertive and frank with ML about what he thinks and wants from him. And I honestly think his approach of "Just let nature takes its course" is pretty acceptable for someone in his position, in fact, the fact that he didn't use his cunning and power to manipulate ML (who's a clueless cinnamon roll) and completely control him already shows his decent character despite being quite a ruthless businessman. He also never pushed ML if he strongly refused his advances, kinda dubcon there but if ML really didn't want their relationship to progress he could have stopped MC, he was an Alpha after all. And once MC realized his feelings, he didn't dawdle nor let ML stew in any misunderstanding about his stance in their relationship, it's honestly very refreshing^^

ML is just a cinnamon roll tbh, he's a complete simp for MC and despite being the weaker one in term of power, he did not let that to cause him to take advantage of MC when he's down and even did his best to accommodate MC (at first it may have been due to familiarity and dependency as they were both transmigrators but later on it was due to genuine feelings) and take care of him sincerely.

I think ML still has a lot of room to grow with MC by his side and their relationship is beautiful despite how unconventionally it began. Their ending was also sweet, hehe^^

Plot holes:

1. World setting

I mean, yeah sure ABO setting aren't all that different (in term of physiology at least) but it still would have been nice if the author could have expanded more about it via ML's POV coz that would have cemented how terrifying ABO setting really is in that world via the culture explanation and give more substance to the story

2. Transmigration/Rebirth Setting

It was never really explained how
Spoiler

Lin Yao actually managed to transfer MC and ML into the book and why it had to be them that were transmigrated or even the placeholder thing

[collapse]

I know the OG protagonist isn't the main focus but if you're gonna throw rebirth and transmigration together, at least make a detailed plot to tie them together...

In fact I think the story would have been executed better if it was a system that caused all these rather than the OG protagonist since that would have at least made sense...

3. Extras exist only for plot device

Like... all the extras just exist to move the plot along, they have no sense of existence otherwise, complete 2D characters...

I know it's a short story and all but giving a character some backstory and personality so they at least have a sense of existence would only need a couple paragraphs during their appearance.

The background and POV don't even have to be super detailed, just relevant enough so we get to know the characters a bit, after all, a world isn't made up of just MC and ML...

4. Loose ends

It was never really explained what happened to Lin Yao after the dust settled. And the part about the Omega Rights movement also wasn't elaborated on despite being built up to throughout the story, it kinda fell flat...

The OG ML in the novel also wasn't properly introduced and what little that was explained about him made me feel honestly bad for the guy, like, I know just like any other Alpha in that society he felt nothing wrong with Lin Yao just needing to be protected and cared for by him but he never really did anything wrong to Lin Yao. He didn't ab*se him, didn't mistreat him, even provided for him, yeah he marked OG protagonist when he had his first heat but that's more of an accident than anything. And he may have not allowed Lin Yao to use suppressant for his heat cycles but hellooo, aren't they married and has been for years by then, anyone would think their partner is talking nonsense if things that were fine before then suddenly became an issue for no real reason??? Not to mention that taking suppressant actually isn't good for an Omega's health in this book setting...

From what Lin Yao said, he reciprocated OG ML's feelings, and it was him who chose to go to a mediocre university with OG ML and limit his future (not that better resume could have really been a game changer for his chances to build a career from what little can be seen of that society) but then after several years down the line Lin Yao decided he didn't like being dependent, despite living just fine b4 that with his partner and when things didn't go his way, killed him...

Don't get me wrong, it's one thing if OG ML had been a manipulative bastard that made sure Lin Yao had no choice but to be his and completely controlled him and even abusing him after marriage but no, the guy was decent and the relationship was mutual until OG protagonist decided he didn't like being reliant on an Alpha just like any other Omega and suddenly found how he lost his autonomy during heat repulsive. And Lin Yao seem to think that he would have made it far if OG ML hadn't marked him but say he even managed to connect with the person trying to fight for Omega Rights, who's to say they'll succeed in his lifetime? Does he think revolution of a society occur so easily??? (-_-')

I mean, I get where he came from, it's honestly no different from a woman realizing she didn't actually want to settle down and have kids rather than building their own life and career, it's understandable to want to change that status quo but killing your partner who had not wrong you terribly is going way too far...

Anyway all in all, it's not bad for a short romance story but you kinda gotta turn off your brain a bit to ignore the plotholes so you could enjoy it... <<less

This was way better than I initially expected. It's a short story, so expect a lot of plotholes, but it's still quite good.

The world building matched my initial feelings for the ABO genre: horror. It's not the kind of horror with blood or gore, it's the kind of psychological horror where you can't do anything but feel fear and still be denied your feelings because "it's not that bad! Everybody else is living like that too! And nobody is dying either!".

This story had depth to it, despite being so short.... more>> I read it in a few hours and the plot was very engaging. Will I reread it? Nope. That kinda horror and oppression is better felt once as a reading experience. But I did like the ending. It was happy for everybody involved. I have quite a lot to say about this plot but most of it would involve spoilers.

Spoiler

First of all, can I say just how much I appreciate the MC? He's level headed, learns his lessons, has his own personality and bad habits and doesn't back out from anything. You won't see him hide from anything, including his own emotions. He does everything efficiently but also in a way that's human and not robot-like, like most cold webnovel ceo male leads tend to be.

The ML, on the other hand, is mysterious and his life is pretty tragic. The protagonist refers to ML as a placeholder and I can see why, but ML plays a very silent yet important part in this story. It's just that he genuinely needs to be saved. It was one of those few stories where the ML is not all powerful and is the actual weak party while the MC is the one with the power to save him. It's an inequal relationship still, but with the shou as the provider, the power balance has actually levelled out a bit. I also feel like they might be reversible (MC was the shou because he was the omega in the abo world, but in the current world they don't need to be so strictly attached to those norms, right? Hehe)

The world building.... For the ABO it was really good. Of course most of us know something about abo so it doesn't need to be something built from scratch but this story really brought the scary and tragic aspects of the world to the surface. A world with that big of a power imbalance cannot be anything short of destructive.

[collapse]

I wish this story was longer and more fleshed out. There are still a lot of plotholes and loose ends. I really want to know
Spoiler

what happened to the og protagonist? Did he succeed in fighting for his freedom? Some might hate him because of his blaise attitude towards the ML or because he brought the MC and ML into the world, or because he killed his og husband (the body of the ML) and himself back in the first timeline, but I can understand where he comes from.

What happened to the MC and ML's counterparts after they returned to their own world? Did they stop existing in the abo world? Did they die?

The book they transmigrated to stopped existing in reality when they returned to their own lives. What's up with that?

Who was the author of the book and why did they hate lu heng (the mc) so freaking much? They know a few details about the MC and hated him enough to write his entire family into a book with him as the 'villain' who is tortured so badly that his mind breaks and he commits su*cide after suffering inhumane torture for six years. I'm not kidding, the experiences of the villain!Lu Heng gave me goosebumps out of horror. And nearing the ending, finding out that Lu Heng's brother in the book was also one of those people who tortured and SAed him till he died, is genuinely scary like who hated the MC to write something like this??

[collapse]

The translation was pretty good but can benefit from some proofreading. I'm giving this story 5 stars because of the potential as well as the fact that I enjoyed reading it despite the obvious plot holes. <<less

Transmigration with a twist

Short story with plot holes. Wish there's more. 20 wouldn't be so bad. where:

Spoiler

10 where retribution to those SO CALLED ALPHAS - In the plot. (it's nothing new about ABO plot but still).. f*ck them really. Is there about that LIN YAO? I want him to grind those alphas into pieces. That LuHengs dad is so... (sigh) Let me shot him in the head. That attempted rpe arrangement towards his own son 🤮.

Lu Heng so cool 🥰 Yunxing is such a puppy.

all in all.

Transmigration

Both MC and ML - The MC is such a cool one. Maturity to its finest. ML is such a puppy. Understandable due to his living conditions and experience.

Not too much elaboration towards the plot story (where they transmigrated). They where there for one sole purpose (P. Shou) and that's it.

Smooth short easy reading story. It was much more of a right place right time grow on you romance than strong chemistry. I wish there were 10 more chapters to see how the MC and ML get use to their relationship - hoping to see the ML become more confident and MC a bit more willing to lean on him.

Would also like a story about Lin Yao in the years to come.

It was nice, lighthearted and fluffy for the most part. Considering it was a short story, the plot was well developed for the most part but there were some awkward moments and plot holes ... more>>
Spoiler

Why would a workaholic perfectionist dad give his company to a high schooler? How did that guy brought them into his world and then send them back? It seemed kind of unnecessary when he explained his reasons tbh. How the original writer of the book knew so much about their real life?

[collapse]

To enjoy the novel to the fullest you should focus only on the romance, fluff and cute dynamics of the couple. I liked the cold shou x puppy gong interactions! <<less

Considering it is only a short novel, I thought I could finish it but it just wasnt my cup of tea. I don't like the characters. The MC in particular. Its not that I dislike a powerful omega but the MC was just arrogant and unlikeable. I didn't like the plot and disliked the relationship between the main couple and how it developed. I did turn to the last 2 chapters just to skim through it and I feel my decision to drop it was justifiable.

Really good! I love it. All the real characters have depth and I really appreciate how human they are. I don’t think the MC was too arrogant at all, I think he was really charming without being annoying. I also think his personality suits the dynamic between him and the ml. Its reverse if the stereotypical role with the puppy ML and calm MC. I’m really glad the author decided to let them come back to their real world. The ending was sweet and I wish there were extras. The... more>> only thing I found unlikeable is the unnecessary age gap. I feel the home trouble troupe could still be pulled off with the ML even if he was 22 or 21. Even that feels really young but a 18 year old and someone in their late 20s is kind of weird. The author does a decent job at depicting the senseless dystopian society that similarly mirrors our world. I hope the omega Lin gets the happiness he deserves and for a gratifying change to happen in that novel. <<less

I thought this was a well written for a short story, of course it could’ve been longer. I like the strong O type and the MC clearly showed that, I’m glad they were able to go back to reality where ppl weren’t so biased against omegas and be able to continue their relationship.
