Why are the Protagonist Gong and Shou Fighting Because of Me?

Tang Bai was born into a wealthy family. His body was soft and slender, and he loved to act spoiled. His family searched far and wide to find him a handsome and rich prospective fiancé. However, the prospective fiancé liked independent and strong omegas and was very resistant to this business marriage.

One day, Tang Bai’s brain short circuited, causing him to believe that he lived in a book. He was the cannon fodder shou, and his prospective fiancé was the protagonist gong. The protagonist shou, Xie Ruheng, was a strong, independent omega of the new era who pretended to be an alpha. In the future, he would become a marshal and the light of the omegas.

No wonder the love-filled bento that he worked super hard to make was rejected by his prospective fiancé who didn’t even look at it. Tang Bai’s eyes reddened as he turned around. He saw that Xie Ruheng was eating the horrible tasting training meal. How could the future light of the omegas eat this kind of devil’s cruise that was fed to the pigs?

Tang Bai shyly said: “This was personally made by me. Us omegas need to pay attention to our diet and take care of our bodies~”

Xie Ruheng: ……?

The first time Xie Ruheng saw Tang Bai, he thought that even when this omega cried, he was still like the omega of his dreams. Although Tang Bai was virtuous, delicate, beautiful, and cute, he already had a prospective fiancé!

Xie Ruheng expressed with grief: “I won’t be the third party.”

Tang Bai was extremely moved, thinking that Xie Ruheng had already become good sisters with him and wouldn’t come to steal his man. There was a saying that Alphas were like clothes and good sisters were like one’s hands and feet. Don’t worry, I will definitely take good care of you!

Xie Ruheng: ……

Very soon, Xie Ruheng heard a rumor. Tang Bai’s prospective fiancé hated Tang Bai, but he couldn’t defy the orders of his family, so he could only create trouble for Tang Bai everywhere.

Xie Ruheng: This is the omega of my dreams that I want to hold in the palm of my hands, and you actually don’t cherish him? tr*sh!

Xie Ruheng: Isn’t it just stealing a man? So sweet.

Tang Bai found out in horror: Why are the protagonist gong and shou fighting because of me?!

Tang Bai: Oh! They must have a love and hate relationship!

Wow, this is a powerful novel even as a corrected MTL. The romance is as cute as I'd hope from the title, but the message and social issues interwoven throughout are what makes this a 5 star novel. The MC is passionate about the disparity between genders and the ML is a fighter against the class hierarchy. Really hope this continues to be translated because I am blown away by this gem!

This was so funny, warm and emotional. A such great novel that emphaize you have the power to decide your own life not because of someone else.

MC such a turning point after 20 chapters he reveal he's actually very talented not just a vase that only know how to do girly things. It was powerful background story, it was emotional and impactful.l, I am sure many people can sympathise in reality. He's both weak and strong ! I never encounter such character that can embrace both sides without looking very... more>> Green tea like this whole green tea thing killed me in the novel hahaha. I love this adorable and strong headed MC. He is so admirable.

ML is cool, calm, strong and so funny. He's inner mindset is also a highlight in the novel. The way he thinks and his outward demeanor makes a good contrast that leavs you laughing and fascinated. I don't know that whole story about him being an omega through future vision making this big misunderstanding. But this concept you don't feel bored or annoyed. It's rather building up his feelings for the MC. It's just very cute and funny at the same time.

I hardly reach any ABO, let alone Mecha novel. BUT HEY DONT MISS OUT ON THIS ONE. ITS WORTH YOUR TIME.

Edit: I am going to take over the translations. Starting this month Feb 2023. I really want to announce that the ML's name is Xi Ruheng not Xi Ruhang. So I edit the intro. <<less

more chapters in the link if you just keep pressing next on teanovel

[collapse]

But honestly this dragged for too long. And the quality isnt that great. It was ok most of the time in an acceptable sort of way. There were a few teases that got nearly exciting. But even then it was just too boring, not with events but in the way it was written and worded, and in the pace and rhythm.

Maybe things were lost in translation, but yeah, very subpar.

The novel is good, the story is about woman omega rights and equality, which I think is quite rare. Even it feels realistic, because I grow up in a chinese strong patriarchy family. I like this element. Hence the 2 stars comes from. But the problem is, maybe this novel is just not my cup of tea. I'll try to describe it as best as I can why I don't like this novel.

*Inhales*

*Exhales*

First, the romance is unnecessary long. They became a couple at around :

Chapter 80ish

[collapse]

The misunderstanding about their relationship can be resolved easily and unnecessary for me. Sometimes MC did irritate me. MC always think that the ML is an omega, so he treated him as a close friend. But for god's sake, this is ABO, where every visible traits are so visible; like pheromones, body builds, strength, so on. Even many people gasp and admire ML alpha traits many times (?). Yeah yeah hold up I know, MC thinks that even omega can look fierce with concealed pheromone. But the problem shouldn't have been for 3/4 of the novel.

Spoiler

While MC and ML was "a friend", MC write a novel about the "ML omega ver" and they became online friends, bcs the ML "resonates" with him. Then the ML saved his life, and they meet offline, while ML concealed his face with some kind of skin mask. Then, surprisingly for me, the MC fell in love with this "online ML ver". Long story short, the MC knew his identity, and they soon became a couple. The discovery, being honest to each other, and MC forgave ML are happened, in like, a chapter. I'm just like : "...." Mixed feelings. You always regard him as an omega close comrades, and then fell in love with his "online-other-side", then when everything is revealed, you don't even feel confused? Uh, idk. Even myself have mixed feelings.

[collapse]

What I don't like too is the MC always see the ML from the novel point of view that he read. The omega ML novel ver. He never see him as "the real and present ML". When they became a couple just like that, i... I don't know. Sorry, I can't explain this well.

I don't know, but... for me, the novel is just looong and boring. I don't get "that" thrill and excitement when I read a novel. While I read, I have many "uh, ok..." comments on my head lmao. What I only like about this novel is all that omega rights/equality stuff, so I don't have complaints in that area. But, besides it, uh, their school problems with that hateful villain friend, etc. Tbh it feels bland.

Again, as I stated before, the problem is just maybe this novel is not my cup of tea. Although I'm excited with the summary and reviews before read this.... But, well... Sigh... So yeah, dropped. <<less

If you are looking for a unique one where ML is not over possessive and overbearing but treasures MC and respects him, I highly recommend you this one.

Here, you can not only enjoy the sweet and fluffy interactions between our ML and MC but also the warm and harmony atmosphere between MC and his family.

Also the author really is impressive because he/she can point out the cruel truth of world for women and the biased nature of society to men.

Not only the plot is good but also the interactions between... more>> the main couple is so sweet and loveable.

Although the translation here is not completed, you guys can search for MTL version cause it is very easy to understand and enjoy the story. <<less

As someone who has sat through the entire novel twice I believe I am qualified to say that this is a rare but full 5/5 stars.

Unlike many novels that rely on misunderstandings to create conflict and drive the plot, this novel's misunderstandings act as a way for the readers to see both sides of the story. Everything you read contributes to some aspect of the novel: whether it's character development, plot progression, emotional tension etc so no fillers.

For character development, I especially like how Tang Bai learns to accept and... more>> grow around his societally deemed shortcomings. This novel outspokenly addresses gender inequality through the metaphor of ABO. From society and from himself, Tang Bai shows the world that being a feminine, squeamish, Omega is not mutually exclusive from being ambitious and unyielding. It is demonstrated how beneficial it is to the gender equality movement to have a social figure who exhibits both the stereotypical traits of an omega/female and does not shed it to gain a footing in an alpha/male dominated world.

The author also poses critique from the other side of Tang Bai's behaviour. Critique that strong feminist women in today's society also have to hear. For example:
Spoiler

I'm an Omega myself and I disagree with Tang Bai's actions. This statement is said multiple times from society to Tang Bai, a parody of women who say the same thing to feminists. The author addresses this beautifully by pointing out that this is often a result of patriarchal brainwashing or at least, unwillingness to change the status quo either out of fear, ignorance or complacency.

[collapse]

The side characters are also fleshed out solidly. The two main characters I would reference are Li Songyun and Bai Zhi. Both are also omegas and both have their own troubles that they overcome. And they're not left to extras, they're written explicitly into the main plot.

As many other reviewers have covered and I have mentioned many times now, many social movements are addressed in this novel. Womens right's is the key one but my favourite is talking about class divide. Solid spoilers:
Spoiler

A rich noble student raping a civilian and is able to use his money and cultural standards to close their mouth. Or a rich student using his status and suppress other candidates and gain an unfavourable edge in a merit-based competition, when the competition is mainly just used to gild his resume instead of being something he's actually passionate in.

[collapse]
It's also addressed subtly at times too, not just as plot points. In the beginning the MC has little awareness of how the poor live, almost painfully unaware of it actually, and the readers can tell. Another case is also how many of the characters in the novel are also nobles, with the exceptions to this being extremely highlighted (cough: ML). Whether that's a creative choice or just another thing to demonstrate Tang Bai's status and school reputation I don't know.

This review is so long and I've typed it on mobile at 5AM so I'll conclude with a last note.

The extras are so good. Unexpectedly I didn't even know I had questions or a desire to know more about a certain part of the plot-

Spoiler

The alternate world that is referenced throughout the novel is fully explained well. It's also heartbreakingly so sad.

[collapse]
-and as such was completely taken off guard and bawled.

Second note: this novel is too damn good at making me cry.

And MTL is honestly very easy to understand. 0 issues. <<less

It's very sweet, It's like a multiverse, each one with its own story, our story is that of one of them and how thanks to magical silver you can change the course of your destiny The protagonist is really tender, intelligent and kind, and thanks to the magical silver he begins to follow in the footsteps of his light (Omega) to bring a social and cultural change to society.

This was one of the best ABO I've ever had the chance to encounter. Love our MC omega. While I love the typical strong I-didn't-expect-to-turn-out-omega, I love even more the characters who embrace who they are. The parallels with real world gender inequality makes me tear up sometimes without distracting or detracting from the story. Real world frustrations and helplessness alleviated by the themes of hope in the midst of struggle. Love it.

I just wish we could get better translations. I mean I'm grateful for the new translator but it's... more>> not that different from mtl. The original translators did an amazing job and I'm still hoping for someone to pick this up. Gonna come back to this someday but gonna drop it for now until better translations can be found or bought. <<less

I don't usually rate novels before reading them completely unless I don't want to read further, but I think I just have to write a review right now.

I finished with chapter 23 and damn I am just feeling so many emotions at once I don't know what to do with them.

I am wiping my tears as I write. As a woman in a relatively unsafe country, this just hit too close to home. The way the issue of r*pe and it's consequences was talked about, the way victims are blamed... more>> and are told to remain silent while the rapists walk free, it was just... I cried so much.

And the protagonist, what can I say about him? So inspiring. He was a typical flower vase omega from the start but the moment he realised he has lived his entire life bending himself to the will of everyone around him, became the 'perfect omega' basically lying to himself and suppressing himself, it just gave me goosebumps. I can't wait to see what he does in the future.

I am just too emotional right now so I can't really review the entire novel right now, but omg this is going straight into my favorites list. One of the best ABO def. <<less

I recommended this to a friend so that’s how you know it’s good.

Around the spot I left off though, there’s just too much fighting and zergs and cooking bugs and weird sh*t going on that I just can’t anymore.

I definitely cried reading this though, the way that Tang Bai fights for himself and omega rights is just so inspiring.
Spoiler

And the part with both of them as Omegas falling in love and separating and Xie Rueheng being a dumbass and not even telling Tang Bai the truth and dying making the Love of His Life think that he never loved him like ????? Honey please. Try not to make me cry like that again. I needed more of that timeline.

[collapse]

It was hilarious how long the misunderstanding of Xie Rueheng being Omega carried on and Tang Bai calling them sisters killed me. Every time I just was like, lighting a candle for XRH now because the Omega he likes is very dumb in the best way.

Spoiler

The mecha stuff and Tang Bai being a genius kind of came out of nowhere but we do love a strong MC.

usually I dont review midway for something I like. I enjoy reviewing the story I like once it ends. But.. I have lots of feelings about this and I don't wanna rush through reading this. My heart can't take it.

First of all, as a BL, I LOVE THIS A LOT. The characters are funny, the premise is fresh, and they played their pacing quite well.

BUT GODDAMN I DO NOT EXPECT the deeply entwined cultural and social commentary in this that the author mixed really well with the cute BL stuff.

I... more>> need a second. All the seconds.

As someone who was born a woman, I can't help but constantly gripping on to the protagonist's shoulder and weep: “OH GOD YOU GET MEEE, YOU GET ME SO MUCHHH, THESE THINGS ACTUALLY SUCKS RIGHT? I WASNT CRAZY”

But the point they made really meshes well with the world building and the plot, so it doesn't feel like the author's screaming at you with a megaphone. I tried to take away the “moral messaging” to see if this is superficial for the plot, but no. Interestingly, the plot doesn't work without the message.

So, yeah, this is a good story to read, but if you need complete escapism from this cold, cruel world, maybe skip this one. <<less

After many years in this website only now this novel impacted me enough to do a review. Honestly, at first I was put off with the protag. He seemed shallow and "girly", not really my tastes. I was about to drop it, but I double checked myself and thought it wasnt fair for me to preemptively judge like that and to keep an open mind. And boy as I kept reading, the novel really shows you why you shouldnt prejudge like that.

as a fantasy to escape to, this was a fun way to pass the time! so I give it 4.3/5. however to me, more than an abo novel that is meant to be a fantasy for the reader, this was written by the author to critique the way women are expected to live. that is how I will be reviewing it. i've tried to put it under a spoiler tag so it isn't as annoying if you don't care.

as a critique of gender i'll give it a 3/5. overall, I... more>> think it was a hopeful and uplifting message, but it isn't really well executed. my main problem is the fact it can feel too good to be true and fake. honestly I would have made Tang Bai
Spoiler

be blacklisted for attempting to be a mecha designer, and then he would work together with Xie Ruheng using his identity as 'Mouse' to establish a name for Tang Bai (using a pseudonym) in the slums before he rises to prominence above all the alpha designers, reveals himself, and they have to tuck their dicks inside their asses

[collapse]
but also I like revenge and mature characters so... yeah I think I'm not exactly the target audience. keep that in mind.

now, my complaints:
Spoiler

Tang Bai is the only one to attend military school, despite the fact that a classmate of his is mentioned showing interest in a different military department. i'll use an example for why I find this off putting. imagine you are an ultra talented female scholar in the 1800s, but society does not allow you to attend school. you gain an opportunity! would you not want your friends, who have suffered through brainwashing together with you, to also join? so they can begin to see the world like you? to relish in this unique chance? to increase the likelihood that your attendance as a group will have a larger impact?

[collapse]
Tang Bai charms every one easily because Tang Bai is amazing, cat-like, smells like milk, has white skin (girl..), talks in a soft sweet voice, and has amber eyes that have a burning light inside them. there are so many other things I could mention but i've written way too much already. the story is still an interesting read lol I think I made it sound bad but it's honestly enjoyable. I'm just picky as hell <<less

It's so good! This feels like the struggle of feminism, but make it Omegaverse. Before others say that they don't want anything to do with feminism, first of all, you should know that feminism's objective is to have EQUAL RIGHTS and this will only be possible if we fight for women's rights because women have been the repressed s*x for so long. Going back to the story, it effectively showed the fight for omega's rights and the author did it while supplying fluff. I would have gave 4 stars cause author dragged in middle.

But giving 5 star because of backstory and Mr. Songyun. I absolutely love this side charecter.

And as some previous comments noted I'll say too that I like side charecters better than protagonist. (That doesn't mean I don't like them)

Protagonists have different charecters settings than other cliche type.

Overall a good read just bear with it in middle.

I'm really glad someone picked this up because it's one of my favorite ABO novels.

The innocent and silly MC tries his best to help out ML, who he believes is a fellow "omega sister." This leads ML, a tried and true alpha, to believe that MC is a conniving little green tea b*tch. Everyone else thinks the same thing too.

Nevertheless, MC and ML build a great relationship... which the two both interpret in different ways, heh. After many more misunderstandings, their roles become clear and the couple work together in... more>> order to change the status of omegas in society.

Additionally, within this novel are allegories representative of women's rights, gender identity, and feminism.

Spoiler

Throughout the novel, MC idolizes "ML's" struggles for omega rights and equality, but eventually realizes that he must be the change he wants to see. In doing so, he tackles issues regarding s*xual discrimination, oppression, class inequalities, prostitution, and gender roles among others. All the while proving that you can kick ass while still being pretty in pink.

Honestly? I love it so much. Tang Bai is one of the cutest yet realistic MCs that I've seen in a long time.

And the ML? So much respect for that guy. He knows when to retreat and when to move forward. The respect he has for the MC is so sweet? Like I get the obsession over possessive MLs but MLs that respect the MCs stand out on the top wherever they go.

This novel has alot to do with overcoming the sexist mindsets and overcoming the class divide. This is... more>> the type of novel that places heavy emphasis on the things that really matter, which is hard to come by in the yaoi section. If you love reads that will make you think really heavily about our world now, then read this book.

The romance doesn't pale in comparison either! I love the little misunderstandings and how much the ML respects our little MC. Especially how he supports the MC from the back. It really strikes a chord with my soul.

This is my first time really writing a review but I felt that I had to share this with you. This book is a hella good read. I cannot wait for the next few chapters to come out!

The translator is also really, really good. Their translation is consistent and well written, making it even more of a enjoyment! <<less
