Who Dares Slander My Senior Brother

Description

Transmigrating into a novel one morning, Wen Jing arrived at the side of the one he worshiped and admired the most, becoming a loyal hound that was willing to go through fire and water for his senior brother.

Even the most arrogant cultivator said: “There is no one in this world who can enter my eyes, but only Jun YanZhi is truly noble.”

Wen Jing grew up alongside his senior brother, idolizing his senior brother beyond all means.

Unfortunately, he was ignorant, and as for this novel, he had only read half of it.

Midway through the storyline, he finally realized that things didn’t seem to be the way he thought they were.

Wen Jing: “Last night, Senior brother infiltrated Master’s abode. Master, please take heed.”

His master: “Nonsense! Your master was inside the abode all night last night, and did not see anyone else.”

Wen Jing: “Last night, Senior brother left on his own without permission to meet someone. Martial Uncle, please thoroughly investigate.”

His martial uncle: “Nonsense! Last night your senior brother and I were drinking and chatting merrily, all the way until morning.”

Wen Jing: “Last night, Senior brother was improper towards me……”

His senior sister: “Nonsense! How can your senior brother possibly do that kind of thing? Don’t tell me you’ve long held those kind of intentions towards him, and unable to obtain what you wanted, you’re now framing him?”

Many years later.

Wen Jing: “There’s this evil brute, specializing in using his top-notch, exquisite looks and elegant disposition to fool people, and everyone is in the midst of danger while not even aware of it themselves.”

Jun YanZhi: “If it wasn’t for you, that evil brute would most likely still be struggling in pain and suffering.”

After all this praise, I don't want to be that one person criticizing the novel, but there is one important thing that keeps me from enjoying the relationship and novel like I'm supposed to, and it has bugged me for my whole read.

Where is the core foundation for this relationship. They say that the junior disciple is a fanboy of senior disciple, but where is it? All I'm seeing is that the MC is just generally just respectful of the ML. Where is the shining eyes of adoration! The willingness... more>> to not part unless ordered to! Tending to the senior disciple's needs besides when the guy is in life threatening danger or something! They say the guy is a loyal hound, but I've seen cannon fodder characters in other novels do a better job at it than him!

Not only that, when did the ML even fall for the MC. Because the MC was missing all this important stuff that is supposed to establish their supposed relationship, we don't even get a scene where because of all the fanboying, the ML slowly starts to notice the MC. In fact, when we do get the supposed "fanboying" scenes, the ML has already fallen in love with the MC because of it supposedly having done it before. When! Besides when he treated the guy differently when they first met we see no other signs of singular attention.

Thanks to that, a lot of awkward and weird scenes that could easily be endearing was kind of more on the annoying side. It's a shame because this novel has so many good sides to it. Yes, it can be hard to follow but I can go along through it if it wasn't for these key components missing that leave me with no gratifying feeling when the MC and ML are together. I want to love the clever writing, but when there is no spark to start the fire, so all marshmallows being roasted aren't actually getting toasty for me to want to eat. <<less

Just one word is enough to subscribe the novel : superb

It has a great and complex story and gives one suprise after the other.

The Characters are also incredible, the Male lead is inreality completly different than you would expect.

It's worth reading and waiting for the updates.

Thanks for translating enxiao

Well I won't say much. I enjoyed the story, but some things aren't well explained and with the mature and adult tags, I was looking forward to a nice smexy scene, which of course didn't happen and I was disappointed. Just one and it wasn't detailed. The rest were implied. Sue me okay, but I like my stories with good plot and at least one real smut, but preferably two or more.

Overall, the pacing of the book is very strange. Important plot and character info is revealed super early on, and it doesn’t feel like it’s set up right. The author doesn’t seem to be able to place proper emphasis on the right parts. Like details that don’t matter seem to be overemphasized (but not in a way that feels like a red herring), and then important information that is crucial to the story is just casually dropped in there as a one-liner and no one reacts to it at all,... more>> but then after that it’s just assumed that all of the characters know the information. But usually when a character finds out life-changing important plot information, they would react with some amount of surprise, would they not? So the character reactions seem inauthentic. The human to human interactions don’t seem very realistic either.

There are also large amounts of backstory that are presented in not very elegant ways, such as the characters literally reading out loud from a book. Or one character says to another, “Have you ever heard about this?” and proceeding to explain some phenomenon, but it’s literally something that makes up the structure of their world and there’s no way anyone could have lived their life without knowing it. Actual example: “Did you know that our country is bordered by ocean to the west and the country of such-and-such to the east?” Followed by big explanation about country of such-and-such. Realistically, I would assume that if someone is old enough to be out saving the world and whatnot, they would also be old enough to know the country/landforms adjacent to their own country.

The actual bare bones of the story seems like it could be interesting if written well.

Spoiler

In essence, magical snake becomes human after intense cultivation and falls in love with its owner; they both suffer a tragic demise and are reincarnated thousands of years later with no knowledge of what happened in the past. This premise reminds me Priest’s “Zhen Hun, ” with a book transmigration style similar to SVSSS. So probably, in the hands of a different author, this could have been a very different (and better) novel.

[collapse]

I won’t touch on the consent/underage/other similar issues, since other reviewers have mentioned it, and because I think it’s largely a matter of taste and what topics people can tolerate in their fiction.

But my biggest question in reading this book is: the MC basically changed names in the middle of the book??? Maybe I missed something??? MC is referred to in the narration as Wen Jing throughout, as that was his name prior to being transmigrated into the book. However, once he transmigrates into the book, his name is Lu Jing, so all the characters refer to him as Lu Jing... but in the latter third of the book, suddenly they start calling him Wen Jing. Either this was a huge mistake, or the only possibility I could think of is, maybe MC was like, “Hey btw can you guys call me Wen Jing, I’m changing my name” at some point and I missed it because the author canNOT get the emphasis right on important information??? <<less

After reading this, I have confirmed that ALL Yanderes have the innate ability to sell meng and act pitiful. They are truly the ones that should be in the Movie Emperor Hall of Fame from birth 😂

Anyways, I’m enjoying what’s happening so far and hopefully all, if not most of my questions will be answered at the end.

Okay. First of all, the premise sounded great, the plot was great as well, in the beginning. And then it fell short of my expectations.

The summary is a bit misleading, the MC doesn't even show that much of admiration besides sometimes helping out the ML when he's hurt, and ML, when exactly and how exactly did you even fall in love with MC?

I was just reading it normally and all of a sudden, BAM, ML likes the MC. Why? It's not like they had much of an interaction in the... more>> chapters leading up to that.

I won't even comment on all the groping that happens later on. When I reached the chapter with r*pe, I just decided to drop it. Yeah, I know, ML is a yandere, but that doesn't mean he can have absolutely no respect towards the MC and sorry to say this, but MC is just plain s*upid. He says he will never betray ML and then few chapters later, without even asking the ML what his reason for doing everything was or trying to understand the situation better, he goes and tries to snitch on him.

I mean, I understand if he was scared but in the chapters before that it told us about his deep trust and affection for the ML (told and not showed, which is also a huge problem for this story), and then all of a sudden he turns into a total airhead not even trying to figure out the situation and the reason why ML is doing all of that.

I dropped this at chapter 56, so besides some spoilers I read, I don't know what happens later in the story and how the mystery turns out but the story and characters were written so plain and bland that it couldn't make me care about it anymore. Each character is pretty much a personification of a single personality trait and basically is nothing more outside of that, I can't even make myself care about them or immerse myself in the story.

The translation quality is excellent and I've read a bunch of stories with a much worse execution, so I'll give it 3 stars.

If you love mystery, don't care about r*pe and flat characters and a bunch of side characters whose only role is to make you confused with all of their names when they basically have no impact on the story, then you can read it and will probably enjoy it.

If you treasure your time though, move on, because this story isn't really worth your time. There are a bunch of better stories out there. Even though each person has their own interests, the poor execution of an originally really interesting and compelling premise is something that will probably make you frustrated. <<less

I can’t bear to finish reading it. The more questionable content is up to your personal preferences, but the MC is so s*upid.

So. S*upid.

There’s standard fare s*upid that progresses the plot and then there’s plot-breaking levels of idiocy. While the MC’s complete inability to put 2 and 2 together is often explained away as him being “s*upid” that just makes it worse when a major plot event happens and the author dips his IQ even further from just 90 to -1000. I struggled for a while with this newfound low... more>> thinking maybe it’ll improve or something will happen again to change it, but if you make your MC irredeemably s*upid as much as I love everything else about the story I can’t bear to keep watching the entire circus that the MC has become.

I’ll come back to this when it’s fully translated to appease myself with the story’s hopefully happy end before going back to where I left off and reading properly, but at this moment reading without knowing whether or not this mind-shattering level of s*upidity will result in a good or bad end is burning a hole through my head. As someone more concerned with the characters driving the story than the actual story itself (though obviously a baseline level of decent plot is a given), having to follow along with an MC like this is like repeatedly stabbing my brain with a knife.

Imagine almost everything going wrong because the MC is just this in a nutshell: https://youtu. Be/prw2B_03IzY

I think it might be physically painful to watch someone be this dumb after a while. <<less

I think this novel isn't bad for anyone interested in mystery/cultivation genre with BL, the plot is not as thick as what I've expected, but it's still a decent one.

But now comes the problem that I personally may or may not share with others, the main characters. I just find them a little too bland.

Spoiler

I was only on 5-ish chapters in when I saw a comment on the translation page where someone says that they're starting to hate how passive MC was. Normally I don't mind passive characters, besides, it's just the beginning of the novel.

but the moment I hit chapter 30 and above, I realize that I still couldn't bring myself to care about the MC. Not much is known about how he is in his previous life, so we can't really get a clear grip on why he acts the way he is. Although it is clear that he is kind, hardworking and somewhat hot-headed, it wasn't distinct enough to not remind me of one of those empty anime harem male characters that people are supposed to self insert into.

What's more, the conversations between him and ML is always so... idle that it just didn't seem like they match with one another at all. It felt like they're just asking each other, "hey, how's the weather today?", which is something you'd do with your co-workers. The author also likes to only tell us that they're getting closer, but never explicitly show us. Can't you give us some conversations where it looks like they're enjoying each other's company? Even if they do have the time to talk, they always exchange about... 5 dialogues or so, (with the ML saying no more than 10 words) and then ends with them immediately sleeping with each other or the ML leaves.

The ML is slightly better in terms of characteristics, but it was still too bland, so bland that I think the sentence "aloof immortal but passionate towards MC" is enough to summarize his whole entire character. I know some people would say that it's just because he wanted to act like a saint in front of MC/he's an introvert, but if he doesn't leak one or two things more things about his other characteristics that has nothing to do with the MC, then he's no different than being an accessory to the MC. (Which I've seen in many, many other danmei novels, ngl.)

To be completely honest, I thought this novel was a bit boring. Which is weird since I love the characters! The MC is the sweet, golden retriever type that is 100000% loyal and a bit silly. Meanwhile, the ML is the black belly type that is more than willing to act coquettish and spoiled to get the man he wants lolol (he's also a bit extreme so be aware of potential triggers!!! There are lots of somnophilia and non-con/dub-con moments). The side characters are pretty interesting as well. So I... more>> have nothing to complain about there. It might just be the drawn-out mystery that's bothering me. Or the way some parts of the texts just don't make sense to me T.T ahhh anyway, I'll have to give it another try another day. Maybe I was just lacking focus this time around. <<less

I absolutely ADORE this novel! Wen Jing is such a good kid (T__T) and surprisingly I really like the other sect brothers as well, each are their unique person. Not only are the characters likeable, the plot is incredibly strong as well. My friends and I are already coming up with countless theories as we laugh and cry over each update.

The mystery is so enticing that you can't stop reading. It seems like there's so many questions but not enough answers! At least, the answers not yet revealed. I often... more>> find myself re-reading this story and coming upon revelations afterwards, so I really do encourage a second read ^^

In addition, the story is well rounded that it not only centers around the main couple, but it also touches on the events that occur outside of Wen Jing's involvement.

In conclusion, this will be an enjoyable read you won't regret! <<less

It's still too early to say that this novel is awesome, but I really loved the chapters that I've read. A positive thing about this novel is that it doesn't show the ML to suddenly have emotions for the MC. The development of emotions on part of the ML is gradual, although it seems very restrained till Ch 24. As for the MC, he's a complete fanboy. So, he blindly follows the ML. I don't know how things will progress in the future, but for now, I would gladly recommend... more>> this novel to anyone.

Lastly, translator-sama, thank you for translating. Please keep translating. <<less

I think the general plot and cultivation aspects of this novel are pretty well executed and interesting. However, like other reviewers have mentioned, there are many many many issues with the main couples dynamic.

The ML is a creepy rapist groomer, and the novel never addresses it.

don't get me wrong, I can enjoy a novel with toxic/unhealthy relationships. I love "wife chasing crematorium" novels. However, an important aspect in those is that the ML (the abuser) realizes the wrongs he's committed, and in some way attones to the MC. Those novels... more>> make it explicitly clear that the ML wronged the MC in some way, and must beg for forgiveness. Even the most problematic novels I have from this genre (that excuse SA and noncon the ML did to the MC) have this element: the ML goes through the "crematorium" before getting together with the MC.

But this novel uncritically showcases an incredibly toxic dynamic, and instead of the abuser (the ML) being positioned in a negative light, this novel shows that THE MAIN CHARACTER is in the wrong. The victim; the child that has been groomed since the age 13/15.

The MC and ML meet when the MC is 13 and the ML is around 22. The ML admits to being attracted to the MC when the MC was 15. Need I say more??? And look the tags, there is noncon. And it is not even addressed.

the ML manipulates the MC for years, does many gross things:

Spoiler

uses his demonic cultivation powers to essentially drug the MC into unconscious and assault him, r*pes the MC while in his demonic snake form, uses his snake form to sleep in the same bed as the MC, noncon scenes in the human form, manipulates the MC by purposely acting cold and distant, I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting rn

[collapse]

, and yet, the novel positions that the MC has to "coax" the ML for forgiveness. All because of the "wrongs" the MC has committed, which imo are justifiable as self defense.;

Spoiler

the ML is a demonic cultivator and has been involved with killing/mind controlling people. However, a separate demonic cultivator has framed the ML for certain crimes. The MC at first isn't aware that the ML has partially been framed, so blames the ML. HOWEVER despite this, the MC does NOT turn in the ML to other characters. He doesn't tell them the ML is a demonic cultivator. And then at a point, the MC is kind of controlled to stab the ML (nearly killing him). Time skip a bit, the MC literally is imprisoned in a heavenly fire torture chamber for three years to protect the ML, and is left with severe scars and injuries. YET DESPITE THIS, the MC is still framed as needing to "coax" the ML into forgiveness???? That the ML was somehow wronged by the MC? The ML abused the MC for years.

[collapse]

The MC tries to warn the other shixiongs and their shifu about the ML, but they don't believe him. The other characters, somehow, see the MC (a child) as a predator? I think the novel tries to frame this as humor, but it is not funny.

I find it a major issue that this novel does not address how toxic this relationship is. Just because the ML has had a tragic past, that does not mean all his abuse and crimes are forgiven.

If this novel had an actual "crematorium" aspect, or if it at least addressed the toxic relationship dynamics, it would be much more forgiving. But no.

Spoiler

also the noncon and smut scene with the snake form?? Why. Why??

[collapse]

The overall plot is fine. Nothing special, but about average / above average. But I can't overlook these toxic elements and the authors refusal to address them. <<less

Honestly, I originally had four stars purely for the prior chapters, and even then it's something of a stretch. Certain later chapters, and general exhaustion with the writing style (nothing on the translator; they're incredible. It's purely how the original text expresses the characters/doesn't actually have them express emotions. Like. They are all weirdly unresponsive?) has forced me to pull it down to three. Everyone is fairly... flat. Emotions are barely expressed bar the MC - mostly because we have his POV - and the MC's sect are arguably the... more>> best at expressing themselves. Then the ML becomes something of a creep! Okay, sure. I like possessive, clingy characters, and the ML is, for a BL novel, fairly reserved.

... aaaand then he starts mol*sting the MC. Okay. Getting worse - both in terms of my opinion of the ML, and the ML's mol*station. Though- not as bad as a lot of BL novels I've read! Plus the ML mostly just wants to sleep in the same bed as the MC. I can enjoy that, sure~ The MC doesn't know it's happening, and wouldn't even think the ML is doing anything at all. In fact, Wen Jing is mostly just starstruck and also trying to stop anyone from dying, to save his own life and also stop the ML from blackening. Not that it's a mystery who's doing it, but you really feel for poor Wen Jing when it all gets put together.

(The following spoiler tag discusses the more severe end of the s*xual assault tag, and contains ACTUAL spoilers.)

Spoiler

Except... The ML, the mu*derer as we all know, takes the fact that Wen Jing is scared and trying to warn people (specifically their peak's leader, and Wen Jing's actual master) that the ML is up to some sh*t personally. Normally I'd find this an interesting plot point and potential for development. After all— the entire reason I decided to try this novel was because it was about the MC trying to avert the ML's terrible fate of being a mass mu*derer hell-bent on revenge! All while said ML is already hell-bent on revenge!! That's the shit!!

I did not account for the ML starting to r*pe the MC to coerce him into silence. Then effectively forcing the MC into a very one-sided deal mid-r*pe. I'm perfectly willing to lower my standards for certain stories that I enjoy - I'm a massive consumer of bad fanfiction because I actively enjoy poorly done media. I'm a masochist, sue me. That said, I am not game for the author trying to pretend the ML deserves pity while using r*pe to threaten the MC. Christ.

[collapse]

That aside, it's a'ight. Worth a look over, at least, and honestly I'll probably end up finishing it anyway eventually - I've got a favorite side character (two, technically!) and I do actually like Wen Jing, for all that he's your standard naïve protagonist. Not anything special or worth the absolutely huge rating it's got though, in my opinion. <<less

It was a decent read, but this isn't something I would come back to. The pacing started off well, and there was initially a lot of promise. Around halfway through the novel it became super rushed and bombs just started dropping out of the sky in the past 15 chapters. There were many elements that seemed to have been dropped, and random plot points started to be introduced at... more>> the end... If the author had taken more time to develop the setting, this would have been a much better novel.

The storyline in the stoyline is honestly not bad. But going further in it just makes you frustrated. And the bad aspects of this story just bring down the whole plot for me.

There is a difference between not trusting someon and choosing to believe your own imagination thus leading to breaking the trust.

The attitude of the MC in the story made me disgusted. I know you love him at the end and you regret you actions. But I could not swallow his behavior of going to someone else and telling... more>> on him when ML explicitly asked asked him never to betray him.

He knows how unreliable the system is but he chooses to listen to the system over trusting that in the MC.
