White Moonlight is Egg Fried Rice

I have transmigrated as the white moonlight of a gloomy and sinister boy.

To be precise, I am not Pei Ming Cheng’s white moonlight; the egg fried rice I make is his white moonlight.

I think it's almost impossible to not like this story. When I first started reading, I was a bit horrified because I thought it was going to be a romance.

But no, it's a tale of a struggling student finding a warm family and how that managed to pull him up. The title is not joking - the fried rice is the glue that connects the MC and the stall owner. Except the egg fried rice isn't the white moonlight, it's the superhero.

I also loved the message in this story. The... more>> feeling of desperately struggling against being poor, unloved, and fate is so poignant. He found himself a place in the world by finding support and eventually a family for himself. This struggle to succeed despite the stacked deck - using hard work and dedicated learning - this was the inspirational Horatio Alger stories for the previous generation of Chinese. I feel like this is no longer the case now that there's an established and flagrant upper class, but it makes me nostalgic for a time when the flex wasn't that you could afford designer bags, but that you could score top marks in your STEM classes. <<less

So, so cute.

A found family dynamic between a future villain and a widowed book transmigrator.

I really love the fact that even though he is using her as a substitute mother figure, he still loves her as herself.

Short and sweet, recommended.

Very short but cute and sweet. It’s a simple story about MC raising a future villain as her son, no romance or drama but tons of sweet family moments. Not much to say except it’s a refreshing pallet cleanser and I really like how it’s very straight forward. The backstory of the boy might be a little cliche but overall I really liked the story.

A story of a neglected child deviating from a villainous path into becoming a successful momma’s boy.

It doesn’t seem like this was her first world. Does she have a mission and does it have anything to do with the world’s plot? Actually, what is the world’s plot? None of these questions actually matter. All that matters is egg fried rice!

Cute and heartwarming story about found family. FL is a widowed transmigrator and ML is a would-be villain. The would-be villain was saved by FL's love and her egg fried rice fuiyoh. I was a little worried it would turn into romance but whew, it's a wholesome familial love. 🥺❤️
Spoiler

When they celebrated his 16th birthday and ML called her mom I cried. It was so heart-wrenching to read about ML home life before being adopted by FL. 😭

Although all children deserve a parent not all parents deserve to have a child. I firmly believe this. I'm not very fond of children myself but children do not deserve to be ab*sed and neglected. I'm happy they found each other and are happy as a family. ❤️

This is the perfect, bite-sized novella to read when you need a little sweetness. The summary is a little misleading - transmigrating and any romance wasn’t important, it focused on the family-building aspect.

He turned into an adorable devoted son, and probably will be a cold faced CEO instead of a big villain. Future wife will have to learn how to make egg fried rice from his mom (I can see that as a cute short story too, that he falls in love with a girl that cooks fried rice like his mom)

And now I’m hungry for egg fried rice. <<less

It’s heartwarming without being cheesy. Got me a little teary-eyed too. Enjoy this best after reading angsty novels.

This was such a heart-warming story. MC was transmigrated widow who was a stall owner and met a middle school kid who will be villain in future.

Reading how the kid (Pei Ming Cheng) suffered pain, neglect and abvse in his young age... but MC (Auntie later became Mom) saved him and he's able to experience happiness, comfort and familial love.

This made me emotional and cry. If only abvsed kids can find good person like Auntie.

Another bonus was the description of MC's cooking made me hungry tho. It felt nice how... more>> the foods (especially fried rice) were the reason that brought them together as family. <<less

This was so sweet. I wish it was a little longer, but maybe it for the best that the story doesn't drag. It's the kind of story you read in ten or twenty minutes and that fills you with happiness, then you forget about it after a little while. Nothing wrong with short stories that aren't very memorable. This one was written beautifully, would recommend if you enjoy family fluff.

Some may be a little bitter at the fact that the dad (tho his btch of a new wife was no... more>> better) didn't get enough retribution, but I think his son disowning him before becoming a business tycoon is punishment enough. Let him see what he missed out on (the money ofc, he doesn't care about the boy) and be bitter about it. Plus, there's always karma in those stories, so I'm sure he'll get his ass bitten soon enough. A man like him cannot live a long fullfilling family life with such shadows in his closet. The truth will eventually comes to light.

One part of me wants to know more about our MC's story, but at the same time I feel like it wasn't needed. As a transmigration stories enjoyer, I see how often the MC's background gets quickly tossed to the side in favor of the plot, and it's always very bitter and feels like wasted potential. SVSSS is an exeption, as SY's twenty-first century mentality is what makes who he is and dictates the (terrible) choices he makes through the story (and what makes him so unique and strange amongst ancient china characters). But more often than not you could remove the transmigration aspect entirely and the story would barely change. The MC sinks in so naturally and smoothly in their new role that it feels like they were actually born in this should-be-unfamiliar world, and it makes me wonder "what was the point of making them a transmigrator if they adjust their mentality and fit into their new role so quickly and perfectly? It's always a shame and reeks of laziness.

This story though, it felt like the author knew adding such details was useless, and that the relationship between MC and her adopted son was more important than pointless backstory. And I appreciate that. <<less

Such a heartwarming story!

It was short but still brought tears to my eyes.

Pei Ming Cheng and the MC found the familial love in each other that they didn't have before.

His father should go to hell.

I want more!!!

A sweet and tender story... even though it’s short, it manages to pull the heartstrings. FYI, there is definitely love in this novel but it isn’t the romantic type.

Spoiler

The story is about how a kind widow ended up adopting a son. Her stall sold fried rice and she met the child when he was starving and had little money.
