This was such a wonderful read! I love the MC and ML's relationship! The best thing I liked was how devoted they both are to each other! And the house of jade is such a wholesome place MY GOD!

It was a complete package. It has martial arts, action, drama, angst, and LOVE AND FLUFF! SO MUCH LOVE I WANNA KERP SU YANG AND GU FEIDI IN MY POCKET (。ŏ﹏ŏ)

The story begins well, with comedic undertones, modern-day references in an ancient xianxia setting, transmigration, and evident discord between the MC and ML right from the start.

The MC, originally an actor, transmigrates into the drama he was portraying, albeit with a vastly different-looking cast. Initially, he comically attempts to adhere to the script, repeatedly provoking the ML under the misguided belief that completing the story and succumbing to the ML will transport him back to the modern world. This unfounded theory becomes the MC's stubborn fixation for over 75% of... more>> the book, leading him to put himself in harm's way due to his disbelief in the authenticity of the transmigrated world.

While intriguing initially, the MC's persistence and obtuseness become increasingly grating. What initially seemed cute transforms into tiresome behaviour. The arch-rivals dynamic promised in the title is, at best, clickbait. The MC doesn't harbour genuine hatred for the ML; rather, he zealously plays his 'villain' role, and the ML's disdain for the MC is short-lived.

Returning to the theme of 'insisting on completing the plot, ' many of the MC's self-sacrificial actions that eventually make the ML fall for him lack sincerity. These actions are driven solely by the MC's commitment to completing the story, rescuing the ML repeatedly because he believes he can't return home if the ML dies prematurely. While one might expect a romantic twist where the MC deviates from the plot due to genuine affection, it never materializes. The MC acknowledges his feelings for the ML without the profound realization or romantic development that such a situation warrants.

Despite a backstory involving the main leads' parents, by the time I reached 80% of the book, my interest in these characters had waned as they seemed more like caricatures than relatable individuals.

Although the story is well-translated, its convoluted nature prevents it from receiving a higher rating. <<less

I liked this novel a lot. It was two love stories in one, where the process of the current love helps to heal/correct a past love. Sorry for that lil bit of a spoiler but it's what made this novel more unique.

MC, Su Yang, and ML, Gu Feidi, are both easy to like and their interaction is sweet. ML's use of love words is endearing and you can feel that he loves MC more than his own life.

Spoiler

It is unknown why MC transmigrates but it is later revealed that MC transmigrated not into the film adaptation but the original novel. This leads to some cute interactions because the original novel was a BL genre but the film was adapted to BG due to censorship. MC was not aware of this since he had been too lazy to read the original novel.

So of course, MC makes wrong assumptions left and right and everywhere. While ML ends up falling in love with MC, MC is trying to find opportunities for ML and the film's heroine to get together. Later on ML confesses to MC and MC realizes that he does have feelings for ML.

They go through several life threatening events and becoming each other's support. In the end, they decide to leave the outside world and live in peace at the secluded House of Jade.

BIG SPOILER...

...

MC's original body's father, Su Huaizhu, and ML's father, Gu Ruohai, were lovers when they were young. Due to SH's poisoning, he had to leave GR. GR was not aware of the poisoning and thought he was abandoned. But GR still loved SH after 20 years had passed and SH as well still loved GR. MC's and ML's relationship was the catalyst that made GR seek out SH to find out the truth behind their breakup. In the end, MC and ML were able to help remove the poison from SH.

The twist in the story of the fathers was super bittersweet. I hated that they had to suffer all those years so was extremely satisfied when they were able to get back together again. 🥰

What I remembered most:

    • ML is righteous and pure and initially suspicious of MC but through MC's actions, he falls first
    • a lot of good xianxia tropes here: childhood friends that belong to opposing sects, solving riddles and finding a master at the cultivation equivalent of summer training camp, someone's dad is the demon lord, trapped in a cave and have to escape together
    • love a dense protag. Love him. He's the best. Su Yang is trying his best to be evil but he's just a baby and I think he deserves a harem of sexy protagonists ( )
    • the relationship between MC and ML set this apart from other books like "Villain Rehab Plan" and "Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me"
    • slow burn and childhood gay awakening PLUS still some juicy angst and conflict once they get together
    • the drama doesn't stop once feelings have been revealed, now they're a united front but their problems only continue! Which is so much more interesting imo than the main "conflict" after getting together being flat out miscommunication or misinterpreting signals
Why I liked this:

    • the carrd for this totally convinced me
    • dense MC supremacy ( )

    • great development of the individual characters AND their relationship together
    • nice balance of plot driving forward but also introspective moments and scenes that are purely to analyze and develop the characters
    • as usual, side characters don't get much time but who cares
    • is it tropey? YeS AND I LOVE IT

The story is kind of split into 4 arcs

1. MC accepting his transmigration and adapting to the world

2. MC understanding that the orginal plot is a goner and he can't stick with the original script that he knows of

... more>> 3. Angstyyyyyy and also some back story of the side characters

4. Problems more or less solved and its somewhat peaceful (HE)

At the start, I really didnt like the way our ML treated our MC. On the other hand, I can understand why seeing that they are from 2 different sides. But I really hated how the ML had so many misunderstandings about our MC all just because of rumours. Like he didnt try to get to know him better and treated him disrespectfully.

When they finally got together, everything was quite despite the angsty situation :") Our MC was also very cute trying his very best to stick to his character and get the plot moving in the right direction even though he is not an actor himself 😂 poor MC <<less

I give this novel a 5 stars for sure. I love this the main couple, side couple, and storyline. I couldn't resist to read the mtl (machine translation) version as it was not completely translated yet at that time and so I completely read the whole book and I didn't regret. Even though reading the mtl was confusing sometimes I still enjoy it. My favorite character is totally Xu YunZhan even though he doesn't really have much moments in the novel but I really like his character and my favorite... more>> couple that couldn't be together was Su Huaizhu and Qu Ruohai. Whenever I think about their past I feel sad and so
Spoiler

I'm so glad that the misunderstanding from 20 years ago is resolved and they can finally live happily after 20 years. Even though they aren't together as lovers I really wish these two the best as friends. They really suffer a lot especially Su Huaizhu and I'm really gratfull that the author gave them a second chance to let them understand each other.

I love the main couple (Su Yang and Gu Feidi) too but I guess I loved their fathers chemistry more lol. 😂 I love the happy ending. The ending is really good and it couldn't have been a better ending. This is one of the endings that I actually like. 😊✨ <<less

It's actually better than what I expected from the synopsis. The first few chapters are all light hearted, we get to know the characters and stuff, then the middle is kinda angst filled with scattered fluff (?) If that makes sense. It gets slightly boring by the end though.

A simple but sweet read. There were multiple points where I wanted to stop reading, but in the end, I finished it! I'm at least glad that I did since the Happily Ever After was particularly sweet this time around~

CHARACTERS: 4/5

Although the characters are nothing groundbreaking, they at least have depth and charm! I think that certain side characters could have been explored more fully, but I understand that the main focus here is the main pair~

... more>> Su Yang (MC) :

A transmigrator that was switched with the character of the TV Show/Novel that he was playing. He's a young actor, not very experienced at all, which causes a lot of problems with the plot later. Even though he insists on following the plot for the longest time!

  • Minor Spoilers:
    Spoiler

His personality is pretty pure, which goes completely against his actual character setting. But, without a SYSTEM to guide him, he has free reign when it comes to messing with the plot. Unfortunately, he doesn't really take advantage of this LOL. Be warned, he's going to keep insisting on following the plot, futile as it is, for a LOONG while. It's one of the things that made me almost stop reading. Still, it works out in his favor in the end~

    [collapse]
Gu Feidi (ML) :

A very charming ML~ He's a white lotus type of character, surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, as we'll later find out). He starts to gain a little more depth the more troubles come his way though! At first, he assumes that the MC is interested in his body heh, but his intelligent enough to see that there's something wrong with this supposed "Evil Young Master" that keeps running into him.

  • Minor/Major Spoilers:
    Spoiler

He was the shou in the original novel, and I find this endlessly fascinating. LMFAO.

    [collapse]
SETTING: 3.5/5

I might have been spoiled by a worldbuilding-rich novel that I just finished reading, but I find that the cultivation setting here was a bit meh? It has its charms, but it confused me a lot too!

ROMANCE: 3.75/5

I think that the romance in this is cute! That's the best way to describe it~ It's not my favorite dynamic, hence the lower rating. But if you enjoy soft romance, with just a little bit of bitterness because of initially unrequited feelings, then you'll probably like this more than me.

PLOT: 3.75/5

The main plot is the MC trying (in vain) to keep the plot straight in hopes that it will lead him back home. Admittedly, even if it frustrated me a lot, this kept me interested for a while. After which, the story crawled for a bit, before secrets were finally unveiled. It's the kind of story where the past is highly relevant to the present!

RATING: 3.75/5

Although not a favorite, I do think that this novel is worth the read. I wouldn't mind reading it again in the future~ My take on it is that even if it's nothing too special, I still find myself liking the characters and the setting a lot.

RANDOM RATINGS:

  • Personal Enjoyment: 3.75/5 [I enjoyed the first half and the ending the most~]
  • Literary Level: 4/5 [From the translation, I can say that the author writes pretty well]
  • Angst: 3/5 [This has some angst scenes, but the tone is pretty neutral]

The story is not bad, but I did find myself somewhat bored towards the end. From chapter 80 to 97, I just pushed myself to read before giving up. The main couple gets together around the middle and then the rest just seems to be politics and trying to stay together and alive. I don't find that very entertaining.

I loved the first few dozens of chapters. It was fun, there was some comedy to it. But then it just kind of dwindled.

As for plot holes, there are definitely some, but... more>> I canot say I minded them too much. One weird thing at the beginning is the MC's reaction to his transmigration and his insistance on going by the script knowing it will lead him to death. I have no idea how he inferred that doing so will let him return to his world. Of course, his attempts at staying true to plot are where the comedy comes from, much better than if he was trying to hug the protagonist's thighs instead. But I wish there was some more logical reason for why he chose to go this way. <<less

Anyway the story is good with no booring moments. The side characters are paced well and they have depth and improve over the flow of the story. Comming to MC and ML they have a good chemistry. It does not feel forced at all!! It's wonderfull to have an MC for once does not keep pushing away ML even after realizing their feelings. Here they dominate the plot equally. I would tell you to not miss such a good novel !!! Read, you will get hooked to the plot. <<less

I really, really loved this novel.

While I did gave it 4/5 more because (it kinda need a little bit more to wow me) it was really good.

I loved the MC, a lot of people would call MC "dense" for not realizing ML's crush on him but if so then those people tend to forget something and that is also what ML said to him directly, it is the fact that as if MC has no attachments to the world he lives in and that even though of death dosen't make... more>> him flinch.

I really liked how even when MC was struggling in his brain by how he needed to avoid others and how he wanted for that day when ML would kill him and so on, other characthers and ML noticed just how lonely he actually was, and I liked how it was told to his face.

It is pretty rare for reincarnated characther to have thoughts or feelings regarding their past life or how they actually feel insie the new world, almost all the time other MC's would just accept it as their new world and easy adjust to it but this MC actually has his mental struggle and he even says how at begging of the story, it was even difficult for him to see these characthers as living people.

I liked the conversations between ML and MC and how they both communicate and are not forceful with each other and how ML is not afraid to tell MC just how scared he is that MC would leave him or just voice out his opinion in general. <<less

Great fun to read (I read PurpleLy translation, the only one complete so far). Su Yang, an actor in his past life, transmigrated into the wuxia movie that he acted in and decides to follow the movie script to the end, in order to return to his normal life. Follow his hilarious adventures as he tries to keep the plot on tract and desperately trying to correct the butterfly effect he sets off unintentionally. His top priority in the first half of the novel is only to get himself killed... more>> so he can get back to normal life.
Some readers might get annoyed by MC's continued denial of the fictional world he is in and his persistent refusal to go OOC. But, I think his behavior is coherent and logical. Once he accepts his fate and his love, there is a lot of fluff mixed in with the Jianhu action and adventures. I love their little romantic interactions like holding hands, dancing, singing and writing poetry together. There is fluff, there is humour and a little bit of angst (not between the protags) and also plenty of other little things that make this one enjoyable. I highly recommend. <<less

Read from Purpley Translations, I was really surprised because I wasn't expecting much.
Why are there three groups translating the same thing?

The translation is great and the story wasn't all black and white characters. Side characters were also quite developed and felt real. The transmigration aspect was handled exceptionally well, amazing ending too.

Tbh I think the most shocking part for me when I read this was when the waterfall broke because they climbed it after two of the disciples play-fought there a bit. I feel like normally, the physical landscape is treated as indestructible unless it is to showcase how powerful some fighting moves are. Expected they would also fight there and one of them would come out on top as usual--

I really liked the ending too and the mention of how the author got her system was intriguing. Would love to read spin-offs about her other adventures.

Like the MC is pretty funny not that dumb or s*upid or annoying, to me mostly. I don't what other people think but yeah he ok. Not to OP just normal and the ML is so sweet, there is nothing to hate about him.

Character progression ain't that bad, they at a nice pace and story progression is pretty smooth and not to fast or slow just about right.

The beginning of the story was better as you keep going it gets a lil dull in the middle, but the ending is... more>> super satisfying. <<less

4.5 stars

Would've been 5 stars if it wasn't for the ending.

MC transmigrates into the novel/script he just finished acting out and attempts to keep the story's trajectory which obviously leads to the story going off course

I normally avoid these wuxia type novels as I find the cultivation parts to either be extremely long or boring most times both but I decided to give this a try because the synopsis actually sounded interesting. I'm glad I decided to read it cause it was sooo much fun. Su yang's attempts to be... more>> villainous only to be thought of as pitiful lent to some of the more comedic moments in the story.

The romance between the leads was so pure my cheeks were ascending to heaven at certain points in the story. I loved that it was genuinely mutual and not subtly coerced aka kinda r@pey

The side couples were also very well done.
Spoiler

Although one guy who can sort of be considered a 2nd ML (maybe?) had to give up on out MC because of differing alliances but fear not that difference did not allow our ML to falter. Their fathers also had star-crossed lovers type romance similar to theirs that spanneddecades and it was heartbreaking

[collapse]

Now as everything was great but the ending.....
Spoiler

It's a HEA so no worries however while I get that su yang may have wanted feidi to experience the modern world with him I saw absolutelyno reason for them to go. No one in the fantasy world was against their relationship heck EVERYONE (well not everyone everyone) and their shifu was accepting of their union I meant there were multiple mlm couples, the ailments in their bodies had a solution so why go to the 21st century where you won'tbe as easily accepte????? I just couldn't this. Also the extras just showed them meeting and reintroducing themselves there were no couple moments so we don't know how their relationship progressed in the modern world. It was such an unsatisfactory ending to an otherwisegreat story. Also abetted the fact that there was no follow-upto their father's relationship. We can assume that they're happy now that everything between them has been revealed but u kind of wanted a glimpseinto their domestic life now that they've given up everything and chosen to live in seclusion

Other than ^^^ I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would happily read any similar to it <<less

2.5 Stars.

I was told there would be angst and tragedy. There was no angst and tragedy. There are some short parts that are rather sad, but overall, it's a very HE novel. Once the main couple gets together, there's literally no obstacle that hinders them.

Some parts of the novel are really drawn out and slow (especially the second half of the story). Whereas some other parts would've benefitted from extra explanation or more elaboration. The logic is a bit silly at times and fanfiction-esque, and there's a lot of deus... more>> ex machina used to resolve problems.

Well while some of the negative comments are not entirely wrong, that doesn't mean they are entirely true.

Like it's true that there are some plots in the story that are decided too quickly, but if we read more carefully it's basically explained roughly why that things happened.

The point is this story is not too bad, it's just sometimes the way the author's explaining something is just too rough, so it's very easy to miss if we don't read it carefully.

Basically if the author has a good editor, or an assistant... more>> then this story can be very good. Unfortunately it seems the author doesn't have it, that's why the story looks very messy and rushed especially at the ending.

Spoiler

Sorry, actually it doesn't look like it was rushed, it just feels like it's too flat for something like a story ending.

Really enjoyed reading this. An upright/righteous ML who actually does act that way.

The MC starts off kind of an idiot for comedic effect, but that quickly changes and there's excellent character development as he starts adjusting to the times.

Unlike some other novel-transmigration MCs, this one works extremely hard to master the skills the OG body has and to improve on them as well.

... more>> Both MC and ML are some of the strongest in their generation; both have their cool moments.

The misunderstandings other characters have about the MC are super funny and lasts for awhile.

Although the summary is very lighthearted, there is good angst and plot to balance that. I didn't think the angst was overdone, rather just a perfect touch to add depth to the story.

Love the cast of side-characters. Would have liked to see more resolution of the martial art plot done better though.

Overall great read if you like wuxia/BL and strong MC and MLs. <<less

Wow, the turn an twist of the story! So worthy of those days of wuxia HK dramas ! (Minus the transmigration) love the MC and ML interaction. MC is funny at 1st as he tried so so hard to fix the plot lines, but, everything got not according to the script and lots of stuff happens. In the middle of the story kidda serious and you get wanting to know more what happened before and all the secrets unravels.

There’s alot of drama especially the dog blood happened for... more>> the older generation, thus creates the blood fuels, misunderstandings and heartaches for the side cp. And you love those side cps too! Am just glad everyone got their own HE at the end. Thank you <<less
