What if you have a smart, playful and faithful boyfriend?

When dating, he said: “I have no interest in these sort of things. But if you kiss me every ten minutes, I am willing to do any sort of silly things with you.

When jealous, he said: “Compared to me, this man had stupid written all over him. The only good point he has is that he knows you are a good woman too.

When making love, he said: “Although I have no experience, my intelligence and ability to learn far surpass normal people. Just to add, I am very observant as well.

When proposing, he said: “I have no words to express myself. But if I have to sum everything up – I love you with all of my wisdom and life.

I took him from a lonely world, back to the warmth of the bustling city.

While he drags me from a quiet and ordinary life to a exciting and unpredictable life.

Love Me If You Dare (When He Comes Close Your Eyes) began when JY, a soon-to-be graduates, freelanced for BJ, a young professor that often worked together to solve crimes with police and FBI. Who knew that something that was planned to end in a short time turned into a “lifelong agreement” between the two? But their love story had to thread a twisted path, as their works brought them to meet murderers and psychopaths.

It’s an awesome novel of romance-suspense genre. The characters, plot, pace, development, narrative, everything were great.... more>> Well, this is Ding Mo’s work, so need not say too much, just read and you’ll see how solid this novel is. You could even feel the author had done her research well. It definitely deserves a five star rating or more.

There are two things that stand out from this novel: the characters and the cases. Both are fascinating and uncommon. The male protag with high-IQ low EQ and the smart female protag combi was consistently developed with continuous ups-and-downs along their journey. You’ll be laughing funny at their antics, also confused and worried when they’re in danger; all in all, extremely relatable.

The only problem I’ve got is that... the cases in this novel brought back my trauma when reading an old manga titled “MPD Psycho” years ago. There were bloody tortures, mutilation on living persons... well, not all the gruesome details were written, and it’s certainly not as mind-bending as MPD Psycho, there were also funny, sweet and ‘sweaty’ moments, it’s actually well-balanced... but you’d better be warned. <<less

This series needed more romance which is the main reason why it turned out to be disappointed as heck. First of all, the synopsis of the novel is misleading, when you read it, it gives you an idea how the male lead of the story acts when he is in relationship/love, it gives you hawty, proudy and egostic expression which is true, but only till the first half of the story. Our Male lead's personality takes 180* turn when he starts going out with our protagonist, he starts treating her... more>> like princess out of nowhere. I am not saying that is wrong love changes person, but it should come one step a time, although he still treats everyone pretty much everyone the same, and the lines that our male lead said in the synopsis, he never said those in the actual story except the top line which he said only once during the time when story was going through fast-forward pace of their relationship.

-The 2nd major beef I got with this novel is author never sheds light on MC's past clearly.

We come to realize bit and pieces of it, but some of the misunderstandings were never clear like the fact that did his father really killed his own mother infront of him?

and MC decides midway through the story never to talk about this to his GF because it makes her cry, WHY? These are one of those moments where your relationships deepens as you tell each other about your dark past and lick each other's wound and some psychological support. In the end, he never does it, although our female protagonist realizes some of it through "different means", but we never saw a moment of it because most of it happened in the background.

-The third reason as I mentioned above is romance which I will go in detail now. The main characters starts going out somewhere in the middle of the story, yet the lovey dovey moment they share can be count single handely (No, I am not gonna count the generic "take it slow, it is my first time" shoujo style s*x scenes"). I am talk about dates, trips (where no third wheels or cases are involved), some small cute fights out of jealousy. Although, MC does get jealous a lot, but he never tells it to her directly. Oh that reminds me, the worst part when our female protagonist got suddenly kissed by her childhood friend in the airport when he was just about to leave. Yea, another typical shoujo scene, but what infuriates me. She is completely fine with it and neither she told his BF (male lead) about this. I know I have read a lot shoujo genre and this is really common as heck, but WTF? If someone kisses my GF and she didn't tell me. I would go mad as hell! After that scene, there was never mention of it which still bothers me to this day.

:The only reason why I gave it two starts because of the Extras which had much MORE ROMANCE THAN THE WHOLE NOVEL COMBINED. Do yourself a favor and read something like Lovely Complex, Kare Kano, Mars, Faster Than a Kiss or Horimiya. <<less

First of all, I love Prof. Bo Jinyan. He is arrogant and self-centered *high IQ low EQ*, even when meeting the Heroine, he still is. More, actually. In a way where he is selfish/possessive.. and... perverted.. when it comes to the girl. “She is mine” Enough said. I love him. Okay. Love him.

Jian Yao is lovable. She may be a bit scared, a damsel in distress sometimes but it can’t be helped, it’s a different “world” after all. Still, she is strong. She doesn’t let anyone protect her–standing by, watching,... more>> crying-is not her cup of tea.

Other than the romance element, mysteries and actions are breathtaking. It makes you fall on your seat. Cry. Be afraid. Cry more. Even turning you into a detective at one point. And cry again. + humors.. I laugh so hard, I cried.

All in all, 5/5. Now that the novel ended– chance that I will reread this in the future is 100%.

Update: I highly recommend the Chinese Drama, Love me if you dare. It follows the novel properly. Well, of course it's inevitable that there will be a few changes but it didn't disappoint me like the other novels adapted to drama.
And I especially love the actor of Bo Jinyan. So lovable. <<less

The romance is really sweet and humorous. The cases are pretty intriguing since the author has done research on the topics. One of the novels where I couldn't stop reading.

This one of my new favorite complete novel. Its so sweet plus nice to see balance of both romance and work 'career' in their lives. Plus their romance moment is so sweet that you can tell how much both love each other. Positive:
-No stupid drama love between MC! Like no third party or evil family bother them as what most novel does.
-Real good process romance building up
-Good amount mystery of case not just one!
-Female MC is very talent in her job but as she learn new... more>> from Male lead. Negative:
-Some case can be much for some people but that what is crime mystery novel. <<less

really like it, the author did a lot of research on the topic so everything is really realistic. The drama is out right now, it calls Love me if you dare. It actually at the part where -the novel is translated to right now. That's pretty funny. Okay the guy is handsome, introvert, arrogant, and super high IQ with super low EQ while the girl is nice, smart, pretty, and gentle yet strong. They're the perfect match. XD

Amazing psychology novel! Never really read anything like this, so I am impressed with the depth of the plot. Wish there were more novels like this out there for me to read, but it is truly hard to find a needle in a haystack. One of my all time favs!

Being able to read a completely translated novel with a HE is such a delight.

I like all of the author's translated works so far and have watched most of the TV shows based on them. Ding Mo is a screenwriter by profession and it reflects in the way her stories flow.

This novel is my favourite and the only one that is completely translated. The translations for Don't Turn From Summer, Memory Lost, and When A Snail Falls In Love are ongoing. A Glamorous Time seems to have been dropped; hope... more>> someone picks it up again. Her other works have not been translated.

Common theme:

  • Happy ending.
  • Male lead is devoted to the female lead.
  • Both male and female leads are good at what they do.
  • They end up working together one way or another.
  • Suspense/thriller included.

Very straight forward and endearing story without scheming and bitching. Love the humor and situational comedy in it. The pacing was good and story progressed without forgetting the main plot. I liked the Author's style and Translation was superb. I strongly recommend it to every romance genre follower. (No-harem)

If I hadn't seen the tags before I'd believe that the summary would not belong to this peculiar novel. (At least when you are at the very beginnig)

I guess there are already enough sumups inthe comment section:
Young high IQ low EQ male lead who is a genius criminal behavioral analyst meets young cute and determined female lead who starts of as a language students.

Surprise, surpise:

At first she gets hired for a short period of time to translate a few documents for him. Later on she somehow ends up assisting him in solving a case.

From there on their relationship progresses in its own pace. Very cute and lovely - but not really the main theme in this novel as the synopsis may suggest. The whole crime theme is very strong, too. And there is indeed quite a bit of action happening (hahaha~ both kinds of actions~)

Anyways; Don't be too disappointed about how compact the extras are compared to the elaborate psychology stuff (→seems like the main reason ppl voted 3 or less stars)
Don't misunderstand. There is romance there, bur the expectations must be set lower after that honeydropping summaru given by the author. 👍 <<less

I loved this novel. I found and read the whole novel online while waiting for the last couple of episodes of the drama to air. Wish the drama had kept up with the romance more in the second half as it is in the book. Bo Jin Yan is a great character. He has so many cringe worthy lines, it's great. Lovely romance and a great crime read.

Despite having low EQ (or maybe because of it? ^^), the male lead did quite well to capture his love :D I love how he's not afraid of voicing his feelings, although sometimes he creates awkward situations, it actually ends up being very sweet <3

The MC is also a great lady to be so patient with him, and very brave to walk alongside him considering the dangerous nature of his job.

There are a few disturbing moments and some scary moments where I wondered how things will be resolved happily... but... more>> thankfully this is not a tragedy. ~phew~ <<less

I loved the drama then read this and it was amazing! Do as I did. First drama than the book. I loved the novel more than the adoption. However, I believe both had their own strong points. If you like mystery and psychology, you MUST try this!

First of all, I totally recommend this to all Sherlock fans, who also love romance novels.

The FC is really cute and the MC is so much like Sherlock. I really like how blunt and straight forward he is, even when it comes to love. The interaction between him and the FC is just adorable and funny at the same time.

For example how he always asked the FC to move in with him and the way he finally managed to persuade her. Or when he tried to coax and pamper her when she was angry.
I can only agree with his friend that the MC has a low EQ but he is a natural lover!

And the MC has a turtle as a pet, which likes to draw when he's thinking. Isn't that just super cute? <<less

So fluffy yet so intriguing 😂😂😂

Ilove that its more than just romance. There's the suspense and thrill on every cases that showcase their talents. There's the awkward romance that turns sweet and its a well develop one for a short novel. Funny moments (since he's kindof weird (in a good charming way) the way he shows his love is corny and awkward but sweet and funny too, I cant help but giggle)

Love ittttt 😘😘😘

Incredibly good and refreshing story. Though there weren't any moments that made me super emotional or nervous, the book is very well-written and the translation excellent! There's a lot of anticipation due to the fact that this is a mystery/case-solving type story; if you enjoy procedural tv like Criminal Minds, I highly recommend this as it's an excellent read and gives off the same vibes. The romance has good pacing and adorable moments (no badly-written love rivals or manufactured melodrama). The ML is a genius-type character who is very blunt... more>> and socially awkward, which makes for a lot of fun scenes.

I would give it a 5/5 except that there weren't any moments that actually made me super emotional (not necessarily a bad thing!). The climax at the end lacked suspense for me because the ML is so OP, I knew he was going to solve the case and successfully execute the rescue.

After watching the drama, I heard there's a book 2 (seems to hint at Allen?). I'm eager to see what happens next.
