《I’m sorry, I only thought of you as a cat》

On the third day after the death of his beloved cat, Guaji, the heartbroken He Yunzhou picked up a man on his doorstep.

Yes, he knew that the other party was just a neighbor who lives upstairs.

But before this day, he couldn’t have imagined that there really was such a person so similar to his Guaji……

It was probably because of this that he couldn’t help but raise this awkward, wayward, and troublesome man.

As for the industry elite; the dashing, rich, outstanding, wanderer, Huo Zheng,

He wouldn’t realize until much later,

That as it turns out, the man treated him so well wasn’t because he wanted to have a partner,

But because he……is just a substitute for a dead cat.

……

Huo Zheng: Every day I fall in love alone and rely on my own imagination to the ups and downs of love, sadness, joy, and parting……(he’s really a gong that thinks a lot)

Meanwhile, He Yunzhou: Cook with your heart and feed the one that looks like his cat on his dining table. Love? What is love? (bewildered)

The plot is a little bit of a mess, but the romance is quite sweet. I like the concept of typical character archetypes (gentle MC x cold, arrogant ML) showing complexity, while having both archetypes heal each other's wounds. Now, was it executed properly? MMmm... Not really. The writing does require you to drop some brain cells, but it ain't a horrible read for the romance. It's one of the few times my "lounge" list stays true to its purpose, because this type of novel is exactly when you... more>> really don't got nothing else to read.

Chicken soup for the soul BL (literally and figuratively!)

genuinely the warmest BL I have ever read, made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside + I now have 1 (one) man on my 'would marry in a heartbeat' list and it is our very own MC

a lonely MC recovering from unrequited love and his cat's passing (+ a dash of trauma) meets a lonely rich man who reminds him of his cat - cue inviting him over for dinner and in the process accidentally seducing him via food... more>> and love.

One of the only novels I have ever actively checked for new chapters every day (rip infrequent updates ha ha ha.. Ha.. QAQ) <<less

The plot is driven forward by misunderstandings, which I really hate. I don't even feel second-hand embarrassment; just annoyance.

The novel also reads like a recipe book. I don't need a step-by-step guide on how to make duck tongue soup and I don't want to know all the dishes the MC is cooking- which can take up more than half the chapter with the ML's reaction to said cooking.

From what I've seen so far, the MC is also timid and a pushover. I guess the tags do say he has trauma... more>> but I feel like he's not likeable enough for me to stick around and see how he heals.

Overall, a disappointing and frustrating novel. I don't perceive any fluff either so I don't understand why the rating is so high. <<less

A short and sweet novel. This story is about two lonely people that come together thanks to a misunderstanding.

The MC, He Yunzhou, was an illustrator and a homebody whose entire live revolved on his cats. And when his beloved cat died, in his grief, he took the ML, Huo Zheng, as a substitute for his old cat. The ML meanwhile, was in the beginning was a cold, 'high', and logical businessman, but later we'll see that he was actually a flawed and lonely person whose entire worldview shifted thanks to... more>> MC sincere love for (his cat) him. It's a bit of slow burn romance but in the end they finally sorted out their misunderstanding and fills out their live with each other together, and with MC's cat.

If there's a miss, it's the plot about MC's friend

, it's a bit too dogblooded in an otherwise heartwarming novels, but for the rest it was pretty good. 4/5 stars <<less

I've read the novel armed with jjwxc amd google translate up to ch. 70 or so.

Its a slow burner with fluff on one side and a lot of angst on the other side.

The plot is built on misunderstandings, but I don't hate it, as its not as blatant as in other novels, where characters are very outspoken usually but to make plot happen speak in roundabout ways 🤦‍♂️ Both our MCs are quite quiet people, so it usually makes sense.

I liked one of the author notes to some chapter, its a novel about two unlikely to get along people with their own traumas overcoming them and healing together!

About the most annoying thing for me - the food descriptions and recipes kind of disappear for long stretches of time as plot picks up! So if you're struggling with it, I suggest skimming over those paragraphs 🤣

Overall, 4 (3.5) /5 <<less
