Sitting under a tree, watching the beautiful girl who had agreed to have a heart-to-heart suddenly lean in and close her eyes, Xi Ning felt a bit flustered.

She had only maintained a surface-level “sisterly” relationship with her crush to appease her naive younger brother, who couldn’t take no for an answer. But why did this sisterly bond suddenly feel different?

“Did you misunderstand something? I’m not gay!” Xi Ning protested to Kong Nianxi, who was staring at her with a smirk and a hint of amusement.

“Why play hard to get when you were the one who started flirting with me in the first place?” Kong Nianxi teased. “If you really like me, stop playing games and be honest with yourself.”

Meanwhile, in another conversation:

Q: I have a twin brother who looks average but is popular in school. He recently developed a crush on the wild beauty in our class and asked me to help him. What should I do?

It’s pretty cute, your typical school life sweet romance story of a stoic and pretty top student x a very flirtatious and the prettiest/most popular girl in school. I really liked how KNX was really proactive and made no secret of her affection for XN, practically digging her own pit and jumping into it with a sign stamped “For Xi Ning only”. The story is very simple and as the summary states, just XN and KNX getting closer due to misunderstandings and eventually ending up dating. The brother actually doesn’t... more>> play a big role at all, he appears for maybe six or seven scenes? Of which, by the 5th appearance he’s moved on and got a new girlfriend.

I think the biggest problem with the story is that theres a lot of loose ends that just don’t get addressed at all. For example, we see almost nothing of XN’s friend’s romance (Su Yu Qi x Her stepsister) that happened in the background during the beginning and it just disappears later in the story. There’s another character who’s introduced as KNX’s best friend and it’s hinted that she’s also in love with KNX (aka love rival for XN), but she literally disappears within one chapter with no explanation. The biggest plot point brushed over though is Xi Ning’s own backstory. Spoilers maybe? But it shockingly has very little to do with the plot;

So you get hints and a very very brief glimpse that in XN’s old school, her best friend fell in love with her but ended up saying very vicious things that hurt her later on and accused her of turning her (the bestie) into a pe*vert (for loving women) ? And there was another guy who, taking advantage of the fact that XN didn’t conform very well with the rest of the girls in her grade, also fell for her and spread rumors about her, and ended up jumping from the second floor window (he’s fine though) ? It’s very unclear to be honest, because you really only get one paragraph of a glimpse and two hinted allusions.

With such a backstory, you’d think this would have more influence on the plot but it truly doesn’t and is pushed aside and buried so that it wouldn’t interrupt the sugary sweet plot line.

Overall, it was a really cute story that falls a bit short of its true potential. For better or worse it’s pure sugar all the way down, anything and everything that could bring in drama is literally buried or brushed away. Because of this theres a lot of loose ends you have to ignore, but if you can, you get a very sweet love story that I didn’t regret giving a shot. <<less

it's a decent start, though the brother is annoying me a bit; I do like the love interest's moxie and the low-key feeling of the protagonist who Does Not Want to be involved in the drama

It's cute so far!

MC, is a overachiever and is a model student but very kind. Doesn't seem to know how to act around FL so far so it's kinda funny.

FL is also a good student from what I gather so far, but is very popular with boys and girls alike. So she's very outgoing. She seems to be bold and not afraid to get close to MC.

Sorry I'm not good at reviews but I wanted to say I'm grateful for the translators for picking this up. It seems to be... more>> a gem. Thanks for your hard work!

And as the other two reviewers said, I agree the bother is annoying but that's just having siblings is basically all about so it's not a deal breaker for me. Just hope he doesn't get a lot of screen time.

Edit: about the bother, I guess this a lil spoiler (?) In chapter 8. He said to MC is she wants to after FL he said he'll support her, much to MC bewilderment lol. For that he seems like a W bother. <<less

Love it and yeah I agree with hound, brother's annoying but that's just normal sibling sh*t and love how FL's respond to MC's "first move" was to flirt with her whilst they get closer and MC's just like "?????"

If you're looking for something new and refreshing, this novel isn't the place for it. It follows the tried and true formula of high school romance, with some added mild spice of our two pairs being women (h*mophobia doesn't seem prevalent in this universe, which is always enjoyable). I want to give this novel a 3.5 - it's easy to read (also kudos to the translator) and simple enough to follow. Giving it a 4 star would be too much, in my personal opinion.

Despite the younger brother being in the... more>> title, he really doesn't play a big role in this novel, except maybe being the catalyst of MC's introduction to her love interest. In fact, none of the supporting characters really play a big role in this novel, except maybe for shipping Xi Ning and Kong Nianxi.

I wish we get to see the brother's reaction to his sister and former love interest dating, but we never got that, at least in the 75 chapters that were translated. I think there are 2 additional chapters that aren't translated, but I'm not sure.

The conflict in Xi Ning's past that seemed to haunt her was resolved in like, one chapter and we never really got a deep dive of what really went on except for some flashbacks that we're supposed to piece together. She didn't even discuss it with Kong Nianxi and again just like any signs of conflicts/subplots, it didn't get addressed much.

It's okay for a light read but honestly feels rather flat, especially since we only get to see them in high school throughout the story, not even a glimpse of the future (at least not in the 75 chapters that have been translated when this review is written).

Edit: Final two extras have been released (thanks translator!) and it really doesn't add much to the story - or a hint of a future I hope they'll get. In fact there's only a hint of a possible breakup in the future tbh.

I'm not going to lie, I waited like a year to finish this because I wanted to binge it. Now that it's completed, I wanna say that it's one of my favorite novels. It's a cute short popular girl x class president type of trope. The chase was so cute having NX chase Ning. One thing I would say though is when they got into a relationship, I felt like NX was pushing boundaries a bit, but to each their own.

Started nice but felt pretty lukewarm for 2/3 of the story. Pace and character development was strange and once they got together, it was basically the same thing over and over again until the end.

Setting is in one of those crazy (to westerners) Chinese school where you live in dormitory, wake up, study, eat, study, and study some more before sleeping. A 6 in the morning to 6 in the evening study schedule.

There's pretty much no drama, quite a few characters settings were totally forgotten by author and the only... more>> thing that made this story last that long is the study focused FL...

Even as a yuri lover, this one felt like a waste of time, 3/5 <<less
