It's honestly not a bad story. I can't decide if it really deserves 4/5 stars though, but 3/5 stars was too low, and somehow, 3.5/5 stars also felt too low. Maybe.... 3.8? LOL

The story is a bit different compared to other cultivation stories in that the FL is not the omnipotent one who is reborn and out to get revenge and destroys everyone around her and gets super OP and yada... yada... yada...

In fact, it's the ML who is the one who is very clearly the OP one from the... more>> beginning, even if he's pretty weak cultivation wise compared to her. The FL has a stronger start in cultivation, but the ML eventually catches up to her.

The FL is not particularly smart. This is because of how she was raised - without a mother, a father, and no affection from anyone. She basically wasn't taught anything. The ML is the one who carefully nurtures her and teaches her. As he describes it, she's literally a blank page. She's straightforward and doesn't like or understand scheming. She'd rather just punch everything into submission, which honestly, I appreciate.

But she isn't bloodthirsty. She doesn't get along well with humans because of all of their twists and turns, and instead prefers monsters and plants because they're more straightforward.

The ML is the one who makes all the plans for them, scheming for them from before they even encounter issues. He indulges the FL but doesn't overly protect her. He doesn't have the strength to - she's the one protecting him usually. But he protects her in other ways, always planning in the off chance he has to clean up after her, always taking care of her to make sure she can nurture her body, and always tries his best to fulfil her requests.

Their relationship is more symbiotic compared to a lot of cultivation novels, where both the FL and ML are OP AF and just kinda dominate that way (even if the FL is usually not OP AF at the beginning but eventually becomes OP AF to be able to "stand next to" their man or whatever lol). In this book, the two grow together, overcome tribulations together, and just grow their relationship very naturally throughout the book. The FL trusts her husband unconditionally, and he repays her in a similar way. They compliment each other very well.

To be honest, the novel is good, but there are some parts for me that drag, and I do get annoyed sometimes at how s*upid the FL is because, like I said, if the ML is the brain, the FL is the (sometimes) idiotic brawn. But it's different, and for the most part, I appreciate it. There is quite a bit of humor in the novel too which is interesting.

Anyways it's longer than I thought at 700+ chapters but I've been enjoying it up to this point and I'm not bored yet, so yeah. I feel like 3.5/5 stars (the current rating for the book) is honestly kinda low. So if you're still feeling on the fence, I would say definitely try it out. I felt the first part was kinda boring until they left their home, but after that, for me, it really picked up and got interesting. <<less

Another gem ! Really liked this novel

We have adorable characters !!
FL : Strong ! But doesn’t kill every person who offended her. Innocent and cold, but warm in front of her hubby, she always goes forward to protect him

ML : “Weak”, different from other ML. Doesn’t easily get jealous, he finds it normal that other persons are attracted to his wifey since she’s so brilliant, he is not overbearing and just supports her while she’s growing (and I support 1000% this way of thinking !) Also adorable !!!!
Spoiler

How he found a virtuous brother everyplace he went really made me laugh (ᗒᗜᗕ). He does show sometimes the wolf aspect of his personality behind his sheep-like smile and at the end (~700 chapters) he becomes so powerful that FL and ML roles are reversed compared to the beginning of the novel, but he still respects her decision and freedom and supports her whatever she wants to do. A different kind of OP ML compared to other novels, really like it !!!!

[collapse]

I liked that the final decision maker in this couple is the ML but in a reasonable way. FL is quite dependent of the ML because no one cared about her except him, but when they have to take a decision they respect each other’s opinion and try to accommodate each other so that everyone is happy

While some side characters are classic, some are not and are really likable

Spoiler

ML’s father may be one of the rare emperor side character that I like. He is really considerate and can put his pride down every time it concerns his son.

The adopted daughter that doesn’t remember how the family raised her and attacks the FL... is not in this novel. She is not an evil character just because her biological mother is a ———, she tries to repay the family even though she is not loved by everyone and her adoptive father doesn’t abandon her because FL came back, he still remembers the feelings of all those years spent with her and worries about her !

[collapse]

The plot is quite coherent all along and the major questions are all answered at the end. I thought that it would be a classical “I make a master-servant contract with all powerful beasts I encounter” but it was not like that and I’m happy with that.

I cried at the end

Spoiler

Because of how FL and ML fell in love for the first time with each other and because a character that was with us for +++++ chapters just left us like that (╥_╥)

[collapse]

Spoiler

BIG SPOILER SO BE CAREFUL

I really liked that in their preceding life, either FL nor ML were really in fault. I was a bit afraid of how the “Demon King” would turn out, especially because it was always implied that ML was a god at first and then became a demon, but in the end it’s revealed that he became a demon in order to suppress the evil thoughts rampant in the demon world.

[collapse]

Some important ideas were brushed

Spoiler

A child shouldn’t shoulder his parent’s crime. Not all demon cultivators are evil and vice versa

[collapse]

Globally it’s a light hearted novel where we follow the main characters’ adventure as they encounter different creatures, different persons and become stronger

MTL is not incomprehensible, particularly if you’re already familiar with the cultivation world. Chapter 4 in MTL is where there is the list of the ranks in this cultivation world.

If you like this type of novel, I really recommend it ! <<less

One of my new favorite novel!!!!!! It's so good and kinda refreshing with the plot not unlike other cultivation novels.

The female lead does the fighting and the male lead stays back with op money making skills (alchemist, talisman, etc.)

and surprisingly not all female/ male antagonist unreasonably went gaga over the main characters and immediately try to covet them for themselves that will lead them to be tortured by the leads.

The only thing I don't like is that some characters are immediately forgotten and not mentioned, only appearing in the... more>> story a few years later. (Considering that they have a long lifespan and that a few years to decades is only a blink of an eye to them).

Any way this goes on my top ten favorite chinese novels of all time. <<less

Felt too short.

I binged this for an entire week and yet I feel that it was too short. I kept this novel on hold for so long thinking it's 750+ chapters long and would drag but I was proved wrong. There's just something about this novel that kept me wating to devour the chapters without feeling bored. As cliche as the title and summary sounds, it isn't anything like that. Like Ooo the ML is a 'future' demon king so he's gonna be cold, scheming, black bellied and every act... more>> of kindness is a well planned act, it's really not like that, he's quite indifferent, scheming because he knows that he and the FL are too weak to survive in the world, and he's honestly kind even tho his kindness may really show only for people close to him.

The FL similarly isn't an archetype of holiness since the ML is hinted to be bad. She's very simple minded and likes to do stuff in the straightforward way. If she can't achieve things by peaceful methods, she will settle it by brute force (I absolutely love it).

I love their dynamic NGL, the FL meets the ML very early on where they're both in a sucky situation and he's the only one to give her any care and warmth, and she returns to him ten folds, even if it means with her life. She's has this blind admiration for him and knows he's insidious but thinks it's only for their good and blindly trusts him in whatever he wants to do. She stands in front of him, her weak as a chicken husband (initially yes but lmao), and protects him from everything and he very happily accepts being protected by her. NGL I was kinda worried thinking that the ML is gonna be present all the time and it might get annoying (if it's an female lead centres novel, I like my fls to be self sufficient and get her own space) but that wasn't it, infact I was uncomfortable everytime they separated wishing they'd get together soon (good for me these weren't long) and the reason is only because their relationship is so comforting, it's symbiotic, they rely on each other, protect each other, love each other and do everything possible to get ahead together. It's honesty comforting to see such a beautiful relationship, it's passionate but not overwhelming. And ofcourse there's this ever looming mystery of their origins and 'past' that kept me wondering since the ML is the only one who seems to have some recollections of it which seems to be painful.

The author is not someone who needs to belittle or add brainless characters to make our leads shine, each character is written with their own minds, not everyone who sees the fl/ML falls crazily in love with them (in fact none do thankfully) cuz honestly they feel like such a drag and some shallow sentiments stirred to make the plot feel dramatic. The plot is absolutely solid or interesting without useless cliches (there's few glaring plotholes by the end tho but kinda expected from a 750+ chapters novel, but because I enjoyed it too much I don't really care about those). I love the side characters, everyone is so full of life and absolutely adorable in their own ways, especially the cheap son of our leads lol. And one character I initially disliked was Shi wuming (could be wrong cuz of MTL) because he felt like a typical character for comic relief, but by the end he became one of my favourites, in his very shallowness lies a depth that isn't revealed till the closing arcs.

Now that I'm done reading this, I feel so glad about following through the journey as our FL finds out the truth about herself and the truth hidden by the world. I can't wait to reread this with newer perspective after knowing everything.

Tl;dr - A cliche idea presented with some very non cliche plot points, a loving and healthy relationship, and a very enjoyable read. <<less

Recommended!!!! If you know some other cultivation novels similar to this one pls comment.. (I want one where people r not hungry to take each other's lives and where the ML does not force the FL to do things she doesn't want) If the translations could be continued for this book it'll be great.! 😅

I've never felt the urge to go back and reread any other Chinese webnovel that is this long except this one. It's been a long time since I first read it, and I figured it's only right to give it a review.

The main appeal of this story is the world-building and following the growth of the over-powered main leads. Even when the main couple is at their weakest they are still leagues better than others that are of the same cultivation level, so they're always able to overcome whatever is... more>> thrown at them, as is often the case with xianxia and cultivation novels. In this story there is no drama with the main couple, and their romance is less the main focus and more the underlying fabric of the work. I really love their dynamic too, even though I've read other couples that follow the same archetypes, this one is the cutest.

Everything about this novel really clicks with me, from the side characters to the author's sense of humor, so if I had to point out any negatives it would just be that every once in a while the author will become overabundantly descriptive, but I also think their world-building is good so it's not that much of a negative for me.

If you like cultivation novels this one is worth a shot. <<less
