What if My Brother is Too Good?

Description

In the novel “Forced Love”, the female supporting character Huo Wu was a fake princess who had occupied someone else’s position for 18 years.

And everything she possessed should have belonged to the female lead.

After an accident, Huo Wu’s real identity was completely exposed.

She and the female lead returned to their respective places but she was still regarded by the female lead as a nail in her eye and a thorn in her flesh and ultimately came to a miserable end.

After Huo Wu, a small 18th line celebrity transmigrated into the character of the same name in the book, she shivered.

The female lead’s fighting abilities are too strong, she really can’t afford to offend her.

In order to avoid the ending in the book, she held on tightly to her “brother’s” thigh in order to seek protection.

His golden thighs were exceptionally strong and this top rated “brother” was powerful to the point where there was nothing he couldn’t do.

But…

How come she isn’t allowed to let go after holding onto him?

QAQ

Huo Wu blinked her eyes, “Wouldn’t it be good if you were really my brother?”

Huo Yu Sen faintly refused, “No, I just want to be your man.”

My brother is too good to me, what should I do?

What else can you do? Of course you should be together.

11 chapters was all I could handle.

The translation is good.

But the writing is awful.

... more>> Like really bad.

Paragraphs are meant to be composed of multiple sentences, right?

Well, someone should give a heads up to the author.

Seriously, tho. Writing aside (and it was bad enough to make me anxious), the first 11 chapters were enough to sink this story for me. The mom is suddenly dead for 10 years and that made the big brother turn into a freezer? He was 15 already, raised with a gentle mom! If anything, the one with issues should have been the 7 year old daughter left completely alone.

There might be a more detailed reason for that up ahead, but the author is clearly completely in love with her male lead and most likely wrote the story to marry herself to him.

This is unrelated, but I'm so tired of reading about peach blossom starry eyes and big hands with *checks notes* long white fingers with distinct knuckles.

I could swear every effing ML share the same body but THIS ONE also has sunken eyesockets and a crewcut. The crewcut is important, because it highlights how handsome he is. No, really. If you wanna know if a guy is Truly Handsome, give him a crewcut. <<less

I could not enjoy the novel at all because of the writing.

The translation is good, but urgh, the author babbling away wasting chapters of overdetailed explanation nobody asked, is too exhausting and frustrating!

I could count in my 10 fingers the dialogues that happened in 5 chapters.

... more>> Dear author, let your readers explore the story on their own, we do not need you spoonfeeding EVERY. SINGLE. DETAIL

It's written in third person but it's obviously the author placing itself in MCs life. Like she wants that life so much s/he can't help but reiterate it to the readers.

Also plot holes, mother was alive in chapter 4, but 10 years dead in the next? What?

I shouldn't have read this one so soon because it's not as good as The Yandere Came During the Night which I just finished reading. ? It wasn't bad, but the MC's personality was a little to cowardly and weak to me. But that maybe because I'm comparing.

Though the two stories are similar they are told very VERY differently. This story is simplier, modern, and the characters don't seem to have as much depth. Average in my opinion.

The ending was a bit too fluffy. And the ML became a pe*vert near... more>> the end saying crude things that was out of his character, so that broke the immersion for me.

Overall, not a bad read.

If you plan to read Yandere Came at Night, read this one first. If you already read the YCAN, then wait a while before you read this one unless you like weaker MCs, because it will be hard to appreciate this one otherwise. <<less

This is a great novel without too many twists and turns or any other unnecessary angst or separation scenes. The characters are true to themselves and fully devout to their dreams and aspirations. The novel faintly touches over the darker side of rich men's private lives. The dialogue above never really appeared in the novel as contrary to other novels, the MC does fall in love with the ML while he also falls in love with her. Though at the beginning she denies her feelings to herself as she thinks... more>> of MC as a cold, aloof and unattainable Male God, but when he confessed to her, she doesn't back off and actively develops their bond.

Though it takes a while to fully uncover the true identity of the MC, I was satisfied with the rationale display of feeling between the MC and other characters in the novel.
Spoiler

I really felt bad for the MCs mother who loses her sanity for about 20 years due to being traumatized by the encounter with MCs father that too during a budding age of 16

[collapse]

Overall a good read with good fluffy interactions where MC is pampered as a Princess which looks like she's being compensated for the difficulties borne by her in her previous life. This is one of those novels where you don't have to think too much on the details. To me it looked like a diary entry where a short but important phase of the MC'S life was recorded. The characters don't live for revenge and are not hell bent on face slapping each other and are not too scheming. The novel mainly focused on the fluff with a few chapters here and there dedicated to plot development. <<less

Novel absolutely not recommended to read: (Unless you really need that shallow Mary Sue fix).

MC is a naive selfish girl who is in love with her equivalent brother (Not blood related but properly done with in*est vibes), and immediately begins doing brainless stuff and yet is perfect at everything due to her Mary Sue Halo. Not only is she so cute (author uses over 10 milk cat comparisons and has ML constantly mention how cute MC is), but she's a: Master Dancer, Unbeatable Gambler, Auction Expert, and Ideal Damsel in... more>> Distress.

ML is bland as cardboard, a wish fulfillment perfect man who knows nothing about girls but will pamper MC endlessly.

Every chapter is super shallow, other than the disgusting parts where MC feels no guilt for taking advantage of her not parents and ML or whining about how the real daughter might actually show that she's a scumbag fake daughter.

Author also adds in a bunch of "West not best" China inferiority syndrome stuff for no reason except fanservice I suppose. Western gambling is horribly written and evil foreigners easily defeated.

The equivalent of chapter 74 here is chapter 22 in the mtl version. To be honest, up to the chapter 74 (in NU) I would have given it 5 stars. The premise of the story is great. It's unique and fluffy. The main character is super nice. She knows how to latch on that thick thigh. The male lead is also great. There's nothing to complain about the characterization in this novel.

I gave it 4 stars afterwards because I felt the ending was rushed. The conflicts that were introduced in... more>> the first half of the novel ended up being resolved quickly with minimal effort towards the end. Mo Ze was done dirty. He appears every time to save the MC! The author wasted his character tbh. It had the potential to be a 5 star novel. Sadly, it did not pull through. Once the MC and the male lead secured their happy ending, I just scrolled through it hoping to finish reading it soon.

Another thing I disliked was
Spoiler

The MC kept talking about how going to university is her dream as she didn't have the chance to go there in her previous life. However, there was nothing about her university life at all? All that was mentioned was that she and the male lead called each other regularly. WHAT WAS THAT. She also wanted to make friends, but nothing about making friends was mentioned???? Did she even go to university? Lol

[collapse]

But is it worth the read? I say if you're like me who is willing to spare the whole day to read it continuously, then go for it! It's very fluffy. <<less

Yet another one of those sibling-based stories that you'll read and think "the one-child policy author has never seen a real sibling relationship in their life, have they?" It reads like a PG/ PG-13 level in*est prono. Lots of smolder. Lots of acting cutesy, flirty, and weak, while calling "Big Brother!" every other sentence. Lots of protective, possessive posturing from the powerful, but doting, big brother in return. They manage to be well matched, with nice chemistry. The scenarios can flirt dangerously close to the wattpad-high-school-author level, due to lack... more>> of research and wanting certain scenes despite the realism of that ever happening.

Walks the line between being sweetly sensible and stuffing chocolates into the face of your secret, melodramatic heart, so if this is your kink and you don't want a lot of skin, read on. <<less

I facepalmed so many times reading this my forehead is red.

I don't know why I finished reading this, it kinda felt like watching an accident, you know it's nothing good but the morbid curiosity pushes you forward. This novel is... <Sigh> I think it's the first novel who made me hate the protagonists more and more as the story was progressing. The only person I feel sorry about is the 2nd male lead Mo Ze, poor guy. But I wouldn't even want the FL to hipothetically be with him. The... more>> guy deserves better.

The heroine is an egoistical, heartless person (even Mo Ze tells that, dunno why he likes her). She does everything exclusively for her own gain and convenience. And we are supposed to accept that because she had a "difficult" life in her previous life (she did not). The relationship with her brother gets weirder and weirder and at the end is sordid and gross.

Spoiler

she continues to call him elder brother even in bed😭. Also this is the first time I see the term ex-brother. Lol

[collapse]

The writing is repetitive and tiring, you are reminded that the ML is tall, dark and handsome and the MC is a cute charming fairy EVERY THREE PARAGRAPHS.

At the end I just rolled my eyes continuously at the plot, or lack thereof.

The translation is well done though. But if you want a story with a decent plot, with likeable characters and believeable scenes... Skip this one. <<less

It's wholly inoffensive, but honestly it drags a lot. As other have mentioned, the writing is overtly detailed to the point that an entire chapter/upload has only one to zero lines of dialogue. It truly moves at a gruesomely slow place. There's a general lack of tension to grip your attention, too.

The translation itself is excellent. I am reading some of the translator's other projects, and the quality is very good. The problems lie in the actual story and writing itself.

The MC is a bit of a dunce, which isn't... more>> worth of scorn itself, but her airhead behavior gets tiresome after ~40 chapters. Rather than acting like someone who has transmigrated, she's just super spacey and a bit slow in reacting. I also feel that she acts much too naive? She says she was an actress in her previous life, but she's not really sharp or possessing a bare minimum of awareness, I feel. Yes, she never got to be a famous actress and wasn't successful, but even then you would think a working woman would act a bit driven than this MC.

The ML at this point hasn't been fully fleshed out nor has he had a lot of chances to show his personality, so there's nothing much to say about him. He's a rather typical cool, quietly domineering CEO-type so what has been shown so far isn't anything special or note-worthy. The "novel's ML" Mo Ze acts a bit too much like a douchebag in his first appearance, to the point of being a caricature of a playboy, but he only had one appearance so I have no opinions on him. Whether he has more facets to his personality and story, I haven't seen it yet.

In the end because of the writing, I'm dropping this. I may pick it up later after letting updates pile up, but at this point I'm too bored to continue reading. I know slice of life stories tend to have a slower pace since they deal with mundane daily routines, but geez there's such a thing as too mundane if you feel me.

tl;dr - If you're looking for a fluffy, cute time this story is probably for you. However, I definitely recommend you wait and let chapters pile up for a binge read, else you'll get bored of reading the individual minuscule updates. <<less

It's a novel that really can go either way depending on how you relate to the MC and the ML. I really didn't like the MC at all. This is from ch2 or 3?

Spoiler

She's just transmigrated in, a year in advance of the original discovery, she thinks about letting the family know about the switch, and decides no "it's already been 17 years what's one more", This is when she knows the real one is being forced to drop out of high school and work to support her non family

[collapse]

I find myself completely in agreement with the O!FL in wanting to see the MC suffer. As the novel goes further along you get a ridiculous overload and more and more implausibilities that make you want to toss your tablet.

The romance between the ML and the MC seems a stretch at best.

While the writing and the translation are very good, they can't bear all the burden. <<less

It's a little lacking in terms of events (so far), like, this story is almost solely focused on the Brother & Sister and I guess Mo Ze in a love triangle (?). Don't expect too much world-building, the general idea is given to you and you just have to work with it, she goes to school, goes home, hangs out with her bro and her best friend, Mo Ze pops up everywhere, the author gives you a minimal description of the surroundings to give you a rough idea, nothing exceptional,... more>> but with a few lines, it isn't something to worry about either unless your imagination is dead, so far the author hasn't gone into detail about her school life, but I assume that'll change when the main bully returns to school (she's on vacation rn).

Honestly though, I don't mind, I came here for the romance and the development between them, and it's certainly providing, it gets a bit slow at times but their relationship barely ever stops developing since they're rarely away from each other, and because of this, there are also many sweet and cute moments between them :>

I recommend this to people who are here for a story almost solely focused on the development of a cute budding romance between taboo (but not really) lovers. <<less

On a second read-through I have to admit... I dropped it at chapter 219, but let me frame myself in context here. I am a devoted yandere-ML lover, and have an absolute soft-spot for these so-called "dog blooded" dramas. I love green tea b*tches, face-slapping, revenge, mystery pregnancies, runaway wives, the inevitable amnesia arcs... so my bar for stories is low! Very low, even.

So with all that said, I rate it like a 2/10 on the possessive lover scale and 1/10 on the dog-blooded drama scale. All the fun dramatic... more>> bits happen in the last 30 chapters of the story and the first 70% of the novel reads like a slice of life about the most boring girl to ever live and her extremely slow romance with the ML. I feel extremely cheated that the fun stuff took up so little of the overall story!

I've also just come off of rereading that Yu Yaoyao showbiz novel, which probably makes this one seem even more boring in comparison, so please take all this with a grain of salt.

Tldr: a perfectly okay novel about boring people <<less

This novel is fine. But it's a bit boring. I have mixed feelings towards the FL. She was strong in her past life but weak now. She is now more weak, dense, and spoiled. The thing I'm most interested in was the showbiz element. But they barely put it in. The writing is a bit slow. Like the author would overly describe scenes and every action the characters make. The ML is okay. The only reason I would even continue reading is just for the showbiz. This is all my... more>> opinion. <<less

I'm going to rate this a 3.5. Not because I hated it, but that so much potential was wasted.

To get the main points down, I agree 100% with the reviewer Honey B. Don't read this after "The Yandere Came During the Night." Comparison kills this story. Otherwise, it's a quick fluffy read where you don't have to use your brain. And yes, the ML (older brother) becomes a total perve.

Spoiler

He was the typical iceberb but then after having s*x twice, he develops a daddy kink. He also buys a Land Rover just so they can have car s*x. Very out of character for readers, but perfectly in line with the author's intention/belief that taciturn guys become passionate beasts once they fall in love. Take that as you will.

[collapse]

I also agree with the reviewer Nelle. The ending was super rushed.

Spoiler

MC starred in two movies and gets an Oscar for her third movie. Her real family showed up for maybe 5 chapters in total. And there was basically no relationship building. They just kind of welcomes her with open arms and then we're left to assume everything was great.

And yes, there's nothing about her University life despite her claiming it's her dream. We see her in class maybe twice. And the second time was just a device to have her real family (Grandfather Gu) come find her at school.

As for original FL. She tries a bunch of stuff to chase MC out and ruin her reputation but nothing really works. In the end, when she learns about the romantic relationship between MC and ML, she gives up and obediently goes overseas to become an unremarkable 2nd generation loafer.

[collapse]

Also the original ML (Mo Ze) was totally wasted as a character. I actually ended up liking him the most because he wasn't a perfect person but had the most character growth. You really feel for him after learning about his background and how he's treated by his family. However, even though the author didn't really play up the ML Halo angle, that was basically his purpose.

Spoiler

Whenever MC was in danger, it was always Mo Ze who stepped in and saved her. That's the ML Halo at work, haha. Big brother Yusen was bascially only there to be the sympathetic, shoulder to cry on and the behind the scenes guy to control bad news on weibo.

And Mo Ze wasn't actually that bad of a guy despite being callously spurned by the MC time and time again. Unlike typical, "How dare you ignore me?" reactions, he was always in the MC's corner, wanting her attention and affection. And man, he learned about the romantic relationship between the MC and her brother Yusen in the most traumatic/mean way.

Sadly, Mo Ze and MC are not meant to be. They're actually half-siblings. The extra at the end reveals that MC and Mo Ze's father are the same. Despite that fact, the author says that Mo Ze hasn't been able to completely let go of the MC--his new GF is "5-pts" similar to MC. I'm guessing he doesn't know they're half-siblings?

[collapse]

Conclusion. An okay story to waste your time on, but if you've got other novels on your list go read those first. <<less

I mtled this, fairly easy to read.

This is a very straightforward novel of a powerful man doting on a beautiful girl, except they have this pseudo sibling relationship going on. In*est is my kink so it's a huge plus for me, but if you are not into it just don't bother reading.

The MC is really cute and the ML is really cool, but there's not much face slappings and shenanigans, just endless meng selling by our MC that our ML lap up. Fluffy relationship is my jam so it sit... more>> very well with me. The side ML is also not bad.

The title fits. The Brother is too good. It's MC who sucks. Nothing special about her. 50+ chapters in and she still hasn't done anything worthwhile. She wants to hug her brother's thighs but she should also have the ability to support herself. She dilly dallies too much. Waste of time. You can literally replace her with anyone and it would still be the same. I'm at the point where I'm rooting for the real daughter lol at least, she tries hard every second of the day. She has her... more>> faults but darn, she deserves to be the ML's sister. MC, however, is literally just this passerby you would forget. Author should've just made the original owner of the body go back to the past, instead of pushing another soul into that body. Would've made more sense and would probably be more interesting. <<less

The writing in this is too... early-amateur-wattpad-style.

The narration pretty much feels like a self inserted Mary Sue type of MC and there's a lot of tell instead of showing through situations or our own deduction.

The author explains every reason the MC does something, just to make sure we readers know that she's pure, naive but intelligent and talented actress, that had a sad life. And the reason why she sometimes acts jealous or childish is because she's got a really hard life before receiving all this pampering, so that explains... more>> why she is still good and nice although she has some selfish thoughts.

Too much unnecessary telling:

"I could act to hide my feelings, because I'm good at acting since I was an actress for so long and I could always mask my true self, but I decided to be true to my feelings because I want the ML to know me and that I feel sad"

Like ok? No need to tell me you're the best but underrated actress out there because you want to show the ML how you feel and be a sincere white lotus...

The story is pretty much a cliché I like to read a lot but the plot has lots of tiny holes and some parts are rushed, not well thought or purposeless, just for the typical FL and ML (or 2nd ML) situations to develop.

Spoiler

She literally went to shopping with the guy (2nd ML) that is a douche and was involved with a car accident and got her hurt, just 5 minutes ago, to buy the ML a gift. And later on she doesn't even gives the gift because she forgets and later on she saw something on the MLs room that might be a better gift so she takes away that gift, never to see the light again.

[collapse]

So all in all, it felt ridiculous at some moments. While some parts are enjoyable and entertaining. Hence the 2 stars (or more like 1.5)

And I don't like how the MC says she's skilled and can act tough but the majority of her sides is just herself acting weak and in need of protection from ML every single time.

If you read this novel, you gotta just shut off your brain and lower expectations so you can enjoy the novel, since it has some entertaining parts you might enjoy.

Gotta highlight that there's also a really weird line of how the relationship is dangling in the in*est side because of how MC wants to treat ML as a brother and the ML is trying to be a good brother for her although he isn't sure how to. But they don't spend their time too often to develop sibling feelings? So they have this slow development.

Overall, a weak novel and writing.

Translation is nice and easy.

So if I ever finish this novel, it will be because of the TL made it nicely. <<less

This wn is the modern CN version of a tr*shy romance novel. (Was going to say Harlequin romance, but it doesn't actually follow the formula.) It's a good read if you're looking for something brainless to pass the time, but it has a lot of issues. I can ignore most of them since I'm MTLing and most stuff is awkwardly worded anyway, but they're definitely things people should keep in mind before reading:

  • The most important thing to most people will probably be that the FL is a straight up inconsistent Mary Sue. The author tries to write her as a pure innocent white lotus, but she just comes across as a whiny green tea b*tch. She falls under the same situation as villainess POV FLs, where if you like her then you can ignore all the faults in her writing, but if you don't like her you will probably be angered into dropping.
  • The MLs are a hit or miss based on your tastes. The actual ML has a little more character than the standard "cold CEO", but he still has barely any personality and is pretty much the standard overbearing, excellent CEO stereotype. The original ML starts out as a scumbag and I nearly quit reading entirely because his interactions with the FL is infuriating. He gets better later on, and I actually feel like he could've been a better match as an ML than the brother.
  • The "romance between fake siblings" plot is executed really awkwardly. The story tries to do both a "couple who meet for the first time have s*xual tension" and a "siblings separated for a long time finally meet and develop their siblinghood" story, but doesn't commit to either of them, so it just ends up being really awkward.
  • The showbiz aspect is also done pretty poorly, but it's directly related to how the FL is written as such a Mary Sue. So if you like the FL, her constant easy success and the inconsistency between her previous life career and her current skills will probably not bother you much.
  • The dogblood is unsatisfying, both from a logical perspective and a drama-lover's perspective. Confrontations are awkward, s*upid, or too quick.
If you can ignore all of the issues, or if these issues are more like benefits to you, then this might be the story for you. But in general, I think it definitely deserves its rating.
