Yuan Zhan, a video game streamer who claims to be 100% straight, can always play danmei games in many romance-based games. Suddenly, he transmigrated into a modern danmei novel, which is the original work of the game adaption he was playing “My Ten Ex-Fiancés and Me”.

In the novel, Yuan Zhanqi had a slag for a father and similarly, a mother with no integrity, participating in debauchery, who even wanted to hook up with her son’s husband. Yuan Zhanqi, with his peach blossom eyes, fine eyebrows, slender waist, and perky butt, was labeled as “someone who will definitely cheat on his husband” after he got married. His husband didn’t love him, his family was unreliable, and Yuan Zhanqi kept having to face various kinds of people trying to seduce his husband. Yuan Zhanqi was constantly labeled as a cheater. In the end, he was framed by others, misunderstood by his husband, and finally died from depression. The ending had “tragedy” written all over.

In order to fulfill the original owner’s wish, Yuan Zhan must make the husband, Yan Jingxi, who has been entangled with the protagonist, Bai Yueguang, fall in love with himself.

Yuan Zhan: “…”

In short: I love this novel. A lot. Too much. I recommend this.

It begins with the wish of the original host: make his scumbag husband fall in love with him and when he does, abandon him. The torture/payback was actually pretty enjoyable to read. Unlike how most MCs would hurt themselves 80% in the process of hurting/destroying scum, this MC was pretty smart about things imo. I may have shed some tears in the process but it was cathartic to read how MC expressed the host's heartache and pain from... more>> the cold, unfair treatment by the scum.

However, it's not that simple and things are not as they seem! I'm 50 chapters in and realise that there's actually another 100 to go. The plot thickens and if you've read a lot of "transmigration into novel/game" type of novels, the plot direction was quite predictable after that. Still had a great time reading and enjoying the twist though! Had me binging and finishing this novel in a day.

Spoiler on the ML of this novel in case you don't have an inkling
Spoiler

Scumbag husband, Yan Jingxi, is the ML

Don't worry, he's not actually scum and is quite lovely when he wakes up. It's a plot thing, like for reals.

[collapse]

I really love the character progressions and plot development as they "wake up". I wouldn't say that the plot gets dark but it's definitely not as bright and pure as it's shown to MC via the game he played originally. The way the author tied up the game/novel world and MC's reality... is just lovely. It really gave a sense of closure to the whole roller-coaster ride. Some may dislike ML's IRL personality (domineering CEO who controls just about everything) but hey, if one is willing to go with his flow, MC is that shou. Really perfect.

Spoiler

The ending reveals that the game MC played was based on a plagiarised work! The "1st life" of the game world MC and ML is actually the original novel.

The "2nd life" where Bai Yeguang transmigrates in and f*cks up the plot is the plagiarist work.

I loved it when MC realises that ML was reading the novels to him when MC was in a coma... which caused MC to experience the wild dreams aka the transmigration 😂😂 This was really good

MTLed the entire story and it wasn't bad. Although it has 152 chapters, the chapters themselves are pretty short. I had mixed feelings about the ending at first, but now that I think about it, the ending is pretty fitting.

I'm a bit sad that the ML turned into a cold CEO later, but ig he'd always been like that. As the MC says later, for him, the ML is a 200% gentle and warm man. Their relationship is enviable.

One is controlling the other is willing and happy to be controlled;... more>> a match made in heaven. There are so many twists in this story that I'm afraid I'll unconsciously give out spoilers. I love spoilers, but this is one story where you need to go in without any clue of what's going to happen.

The characters in focus here are the MC and the ML. Nobody else really matters. However, that doesn't mean that they haven't been written well. Compared to the MC, of course their characterization is lacking, but as separate characters they carry quite the strength.

I have a LOT to say about the biggest twist in the story, but I don't want to mention that spoiler here. All I can say is that the story was very good. Good enough for me to willingly MTl 140~ chapters. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. <<less

When I started reading this, I expected a Mary Sue no-brainer kinda novel where the repentant ex-husband has to grovel and chase his "wife" back. And while that initial expectation was not completely off the mark. I actually got so much more. There was mystery, there were plot twists and a lot more backstory than your usual common place book transmigration novel. It was great.

The MC was smart and good at calculating/playing with the ML's feelings in the beginning. And while he didn't see a dip in intelligence during... more>> the book transmigration, lack of information made him seem a bit out of touch with what was actually going on.
Spoiler

That said, during the reality arc he did seem to be a bit more dull? He at least admitted that his intelligence seems to tank whenever faced with the ML.

[collapse]

The ML while initially a scumbag can't really be faulted for his ways due to him being under the influence of some sort of force majeure. When the power of the plot let off, he became much more likeable and seemed like the perfect man.

Spoiler

During the story I kept wondering what happened to Bai Yueguang's other fiances who had yet to appear. He had ten in total after all and up until the end only eight or so appeared. After reading the whole story I can only guess that Yuan Zhan didn't know enough good-looking guys to fill in those spots in his dream.

[collapse]

To sum up, I enjoyed this more than I expected I would as I got more than what I "paid for", so to speak. I bet you would also be pleasantly surprised by this novel if you went into this with the same expectations as me. <<less

First let me just say my review might not be 100% accurate since I didn’t even get to the half way point but I just couldn’t continue to read on after the first 3 chapters

the issue I had was I genuinely didn’t like any of the protagonists (both the MC and the ml) and yea yea ik I didn’t even go past 5 chapters but seriously I feel like the author tries too hard to make the MC seem pitiful and honestly he is and I do feel bad but... more>> not about his marriage with the ML more of MC’s family. The author is constantly trying to remind us how cruel the ML is and how cold hearted he was to the MC and that really ticked me cause it’s a normal reaction, imagine if u were forced to marry someone you didn’t like who persistently chases you even with multiple rejections I would be pissed fr. But I’m not trying to shift all the blame to the MC after all in the end ML still chose to accept the marriage, despite knowing he was incapable of loving the former yuan Zhangqi.

the plot was mediocre and the characters felt bland to me adding in to the fact that I didn’t really like the MC and ML (which is extreeeemely important cause how would I like the story if I can’t even like the narrator) basically it’s a 3/5 for me <<less

It's alright. Nothing mind blowing, the usual sort of entertaining shallowness that comes from novels like these. Fun to read, I suppose.

I'm leaving this unrated because I can not give this novel, in faith, a high rating because of the subtle... sexism. In this novel. As well as other problematic ideas. There are probably many people who will not notice or care, but it does detract from my enjoyment of the novel, and it is just very unfortunate to see these sort of messages perpetuated in media.

A short list of... more>> what I've noticed (yes, I am airing out my grievances)

  • The OG novel character was unlikeable/undesirable because he was gloomy, negative, and severely depressed. Just, a weird ass take. I understand depressed because are... depressed and therefore sometimes not the funnest to be around but wow. The way it's portrayed here sure is something. The main character himself says he "wouldn't like the OG owner either" (because he was constantly gloomy/depressed).
  • The MC saying that "you're not a real man if you cry when you're injured." We love toxic masculinity in this household. Crying in general, is used to "shame" the White moonlight + original owner.
  • "How can a man in reality become a woman? At best, what the man loves is another man’s body with a woman’s heart." The translation is strange here so the exact meaning in unclear, but it's giving transphobia.
I am not criticizing the MC for not being "feminine, " he's fine. I'm criticizing the author for putting down other men for not being "manly." It's funny that it's actually harder to escape gender roles in BL sometimes.

However, I will say, the MC is canonically gay and acknowledges he is gay, which is somewhat rare for these kinds of novels. So props to the author for that. <<less

Plot holes a mile wide. Was interested in the premise but storytelling was so mediocre that I only held on until the plot twist revelation. However, when it got revealed the inconsistencies just got too much. A lot of stuff that would have been impertinent are only narrated in a few lines and most of it happens off-screen while things that are often inane or unnecessary gets the limelight. What even is the point? Sometimes, the story suddenly shifts gears on a tangent. I love chaos but only when it's... more>> done well. Sudden fixations just suddenly appear out of nowhere and others disappear into the nether. It also prevents me from being immersed in the story when the MC keeps on contradicting himself just a couple of chapters or paragraphs later. Make no mistake that it was done in jest or in a satiric way. This story is just terribly inconsistent. Wanted to love this but I just can't. I cannot get invested. And also the overuse of
Spoiler

dreams

[collapse]

I also agree with what another reviewer said that the MC keeps on dunking on other cultures to elevate chinese culture (how they did it was also inconsistent, aren't there mafias in China too in this story??). It really bothered me as it didn't only happen once or twice that it felt like a snobby, prejudiced self-insert.

Also, they did the main antagonist wrong. Why is it that some of the ex-fiancees aren't vilified for doing the same thing:
Spoiler

doing illegal stuff

[collapse]
even though they've "whitewashed" themselves now? Hello, it's still a f*cking crime! Some aren't even whitewashed so I don't get why they're taking the moral high ground. Also, at first the MC said that they'll have the antagonist tailed but won't install cameras inside his house as that's illegal but in the later chapters they have it installed in his house now except for the CR cause eww it'll be too gross??? The hypocrisy really rubs me the wrong way and their promised plot twist wasn't as good as was promised that I'm not gonna finish the last few chapters even though I'm really close to the finish line. <<less

This novel was full of plot twists to say the least, it was a very long roller coaster ride. I usually get spoiled of all the major plot twists of novels I read but this time, I accidentally overlooked and didn't read a full review containing spoilers about this novel so I was still shocked/impressed with the plot twist near the end of the story.

I won't say much since I've already ranted about this novel on my personal notes but what I can say is that this novel is definitely... more>> worth reading. It had onion like moments, sweet moments, the comedy, the thrill... its very gratifying to read until the end.

The author, even when I mtled almost everything in the novel couldn't hide their really good writing style. I didn't get bored throughout the novel and managed to stay hooked from the start to end, I'm quite the picky reader and usually drops novels frequently due to lack of interest so that says a lot.

My review may seem monotonous but forgive me, I had already spent my emotions writing my rant about this novel on my personal notes as I've said lol.

I'd recommend you not to read the spoilers in other comments so you can immerse yourself in the novel rather than knowing what happens beforehand. It's a nice novel and I hope everyone will give this novel a chance, it's a gem really. Also, dont be too quick to judge when you're still at the earlier parts of the novel, everything will be explained at the end, :].

Btw, for those worried about the tragedy tag: (whether it's HE or BE)
Spoiler

It's an HE, don't worry guys. MC and ML live happily ever after lol.

If you came for dog blood, then you get dog blood (at least for the first 50 or so chapters). After that, the genre shifts more into mystery.
Overall, the characters were consistent throughout. Their personalities, interactions, actions, motives, etc. made sense.
There were a few plot twists, but those were pretty predictable, especially if you read danmei / QT. There was one that managed to surprise me, ... more>>
Spoiler

specifically the whole BYG drug trafficking thing,

[collapse]
but other than that, the novel was fairly predictable.
The romance is a bit weak. There's a good story behind what's going on between MC and ML but
Spoiler

most of the relationship development where they fall in love was in their past life, of which we only get a small glimpse. It makes sense so that the pacing is good for the story's other elements but it left me not really being invested in their relationship. I believe that they like each other, sure, but it's not really that compelling of a romance.

[collapse]
In addition to the above, as some other reviewers noted, there's a bit of nationalism coming out in the text, which is a bit off putting, for sure.
Spoiler

I'm fine with the MC preferring just Chinese food and disliking Western food (it's good to have preferences), it's just that the way it's done makes it feel like the author is using the MC to describe how disgusting they feel western food is? And maybe how they disdain western eating habits (feels like it's just referring to American food tbh).

Another thing that really made me uncomfortable was how in one chapter, the narration talked about how lawless western countries are compared to China, how you can commit all sorts of crimes in the west without any fear of retribution or the law whereas in China, you're definitely going to be caught. It's... a little odd to say the least.

There's exactly one (1) character from a western culture (not an issue) but the way their scenes go and the attached narration really makes it feel like they're there only to let the author write a bit about how China is better. I think he's also the only love rival for MC's affections and is consistently depicted as being a fool despite being a Top ML from the "book" and mafioso / head of mafia or smth. Like he's a bit inconsistent compared to the other characters and seems to be cast in a way where you're meant to dislike him? Especially since he seems to be a proxy representing western culture ? Honestly it's a shame. I would have liked for the western mafia dude to interact a bit more with the cast, especially since there's the Chinese mafia Du bros and the whole drug trafficking scandal and whatnot with another character.

I love the story and the plot.

Starting with MC having the resolute to break up with his ex husband to the character development and the ending. The plot twist is not really a plot twist for me since I've read a similar type of novel

Probably, the downside is some Chinese nationalism that are in this novel. Chinese really had this where the good things are always focused and the bad things are always masked.

A very tricky with twist in the plot. The fight between characters that wanted to break from the plot god, in a nutshell.

I'm still not convinced with the explanation of the inconsistency from the earliest chapter. So what was it? All were just fake memories the original and everyone had? Or that were manipulation of memories? Or what? Well, I dont think I need to put meaning to it.

What's good is with how MC stuck to his decision to divorce his husband while still doing the best damage deal to... more>> make it last lol. And even after divorce, MC didnot waver when his ex husband wanted to woe him back or when he saw him haggard and weak. But this was what made his ex husband to stray from the plot god and the influence of the so called protagonist. <<less

Better than my expectation. A recomended read. Usually when the MC was tasked to make the scum gong fall in love, they have to sacrifice a lot of things. So even if in the end the gong was forgiven, I, as a reader, still bear a grudge against him.

In this story, the MC was clever in his method and the scum gong is not an actual scum either, so I can enjoy their romance peacefully.

It's an onion-like story. As we read, we're actually peeling off the layers; unveiling the story within the story. The idea is interesting and I'm glad it was executed well, providing me much enjoyment. Kudos to the author!

The plot is interesting, there's a mystery to solve, the characters are distinctive, truly a fun ride.

If you would ask me which part I like best, it would be the scene where the MC gets back at ML at the early part of the story. It is so cathartic, so 'shuang'.

Do give this... more>> story a try, it deserves more attention. <<less

I like that this is, so far, a revenge-focused novel where MC against scummy ML.

I got what I wanted out of this (seeing ML falling in love with MC while MC divorces) so I am stopping reading.

I struggled to mtl this so I’m sure I missed out on a lot of details but I think I got the General idea of the story happenings, and it’s actually really good.

It reminds me of “my husband is suffering from illness” plus “psychic” (without the psychic MC & super paranormal-ness of course) but the story is basically a mystery with nice plot twists and lots of humor (that I could make out with mtl) but yeah this was very nice and I honestly looked forward to finally figuring out... more>> what the hell was going.

I’m waiting for the English translation to fully re-read it properly. Thank you so much to the translator for picking this up 🙏 <<less

Interesting plot.

I didn't read the beginning much. I started to focus halfway through where there is breakthrough. I didn't expect the plot twist which is great.

There were still some unanswered questions for me. Some areas kept me confused but maybe once it's properly translated I will understand better. I only MTL this.

Waiting for the whole translation.
