The protagonist, Athos, had challenged the supposedly impossible-to-clear S-Rank dungeon Niflheim. During the attempt, he ended up separated from his party at the lowest level after throwing himself in harm’s way to protect his companion, the Saintess.

With the rest of the party severely weakened and facing certain annihilation, Athos urged them to escape, choosing to stay behind alone.
