It's an OKAY story. ML is a scum gong who spends the money he doesn't have (3000 yuan for shoes) on his first and unrequited love.

MC is understandably upset. The very first line says "Ji Yan has been hit by Lu Yichen a lot of times" but we don't see him get violent on screen.

MC grows a spine and leaves him. Not half a day, the spine folds and MC agrees to be "just friends". Two days later, they are boning, but this time ML "grew up and matured (yeah... more>> right! 🙄) " The rest is just meh fluff where ML doesn't cheat (gasp! How mature!!) and MC stops coddling him for once. <<less

Good enough, but a lot of resolution remains in the background. If you just want a short dog blood novel then this is a bit okay. I personally think the ending leaves a lot to be desired.

ML never did explain why and how he fell in love with the MC. ML suddenly just had remorse after MC found out about the fake shoes. The only explanation we got from him was him planning on replacing the fake shoes after getting enough money. He didn't even explain why he bought expensive ones for the White Moonlight (WM).

The friendship with the WM was never fully resolved. In the end we're given a 2-sentence description of how the talk between the ML, WM, and Friend went down.

ML never got a clear answer with the relationship of the ML and the WM; the MC didn't even get to talk with the WM.

Unsatisfying ending over-all.

This ain't that bad actually

I never read novels with ratings lower than 4 but I was curious about what would happen, usually this dog blood drama the shou is really frustrating but this one he actually learns and he was never the dumb accepting still crying one from the start .

He tries to teach the young gong and with no progress he leaves and comes to his senses and the gong also learns. Although gong has low EQ don't hate him he is young (21) he just hadn't learnt yet... more>> he wasn't stable at that point of life, he later understands and is also responsible about his actions and love.

This is really short story, definitely read this (ps don't hate the characters much) <<less

Why is it so sweet! If you start re-telling it, it won't make sense at all. The problem of shoes? But - but. It's so realistic. I could sympathize with the MC with all my heart. It was such a silly, painful mess. One blow, then the other... it made me feel so happy the MC was so strong and could just walk away from all this mess.

And I felt the ML worked exactly enough to be forgiven. Actually, it was not even a matter of forgiveness, it was to... more>> prove that he has changed, that he was a mature man now. I can't even blame him for the mess with the shoes, it was like a wrong choice caused another wrong choice and then - boom! - tragic turn. It's good he had a chance to win the MC back.

It's such a short, sweet story. It's simple but there was just enough heartache/sweetness for me to enjoy it. <<less

I love it!!! It's quite short, but really beautiful!! The characters are well-written, one can identify with them. The story was quite realistic. The style of narration was vivid and beautiful! Translation is great too! I really enjoyed reading this so much.

What an underdeveloped story. It's short of course, but there was plenty of space to make the situations and relationships more real, but instead it's just wasted. So the ML buys fancy shoes for his white moonlight. Why? Who even knows, he doesn't seem to have any romantic feelings any more for him at all, nothing is explained. The relationship between MC and ML is apparently violent? A throwaway line, hardly any more reference to it in the story. Domestic ab*se, who cares! I can barely get a grasp on... more>> the state of the relationships at all, nothing seems believable.

MC leaves the ML cause he bought him counterfeit shoes. OK fine, if he got his white moonlight fancy ones, that's a reason to be angry. But he gets so stuck on this and when the ML tries to get him back it's all about getting the expensive shoes, and paying for expensive dinners, all things the ML cannot really afford. I guess they are supposed to represent the value he has as person in the ML's eyes, but it makes the MC seem so petty and shallow when he insists on it all the time. He has never worn fake shoes before in his life, oh the indignity, might as well throw himself off a cliff.

There's a huge amount missing that would make this story work, as it stands these characters are so underwritten they don't seem real, and the story actually drags despite being short. A pass. <<less

A good short story for those who want a quick read. As said by some reviews, it indeed missed a lot of points such as ML never explaning how he fell in love with MC.

It is quite realistic and relatable at some point, I love how they gradually grew to change (for the better ofcourse) for each other.

I think he's quite selfish when he left ML to study abroad though. He asked ML to wait for him and after he come back he will get together with ML knowing that its unsure when he'll come back or if he will even come back. ML ofcourse refuses stating that WM (white moonlight) didn't even know when he will come back but WM just ran away crying.😀😐

ML is a cute guy who at first has a low EQ that its saddening and MC gave up on guiding him but ML later on grew and realizes his mistakes then changes for the better. He's not really a bad guy, he's just inexperienced and got low EQ, but that didn't excuse him taking MC's feeling for granted so its good seeing him changing himself for the better.

MC on the other hand is also a good person, he at first thought that he can guide/teach ML about stuff (that can increase his EQ) but because of WM's return gave up.

MC have inferiority complex towards WM beacuse WM as said before is ML's first love. MC thought that ML would not hesitate to choose WM over him which causes most of MC's inferiority complex.

It's not really necessary to go super in-depth with how the ML ended the relationship with the white moonlight, just having the few sentences clarifying that the ML chose to break it up was good.

While I would have liked to understood more about the shoes that started it, the ML does repeatedly say "I was wrong." It may not be clear in English, but in Chinese, it implies that there was no other excuse for what ML did other than he wanted to spoil the white moonlight (but never had that thought for his actual boyfriend, the MC) so the MC very reasonably flipped out about it.

In general, I'm not a huge fan of "scum dude comeback" novels because the melodrama/angst is so contrived and so heavily based on literally never telling the other person in a multi-year relationship "your feelings". So believable /s. In this case, it was barely acceptable (?) and the scum ML grovelled a lot, so eh.

Another gripe I have about this trope is that it especially emphasizes the juvenile Chinese culture/obsession with v*rginity (also obvious in other novel genres, but ANNOYINGLY central to the plot in the scum male comeback trope). So of course since these two "had one-night stands with each other" they have to be together no matter what and will definitely have a happy ending.

So umm the story wasn't really that bad, considering the short chapters, but certainly, it also wasn't that good. The characters look flawed, like I mean the one friend Zhou Ke was it? He was literally in the novel to be that-one- friend-of-ML-who-hated-MC. He literally only appeared two times. Also, the domestic ab*se. Getting physical, well, this is a problem. Like in the first chapter, they got into a fight when the MC was using a knife. And I was like?? Hello? ML where did your IQ go? Wasn't he... more>> supposed to be a genius??

Like I mean it can get so dangerous fighting around the knife and stuff. And when the MC got hurt, he was like "I didn't mean it. I'm sorry." Yea what's the point of verbal apology? Like he doesn't even go to the hospital with MC together?? OK Are you his bf or not?

Don't let me start talking about his low EQ. His low EQ was the reason their relationship is like this. He's really taking MC granted. Even though it wasn't really explained on how he fell in love, I guess him actively trying to be a better person for MC is great. And yea I don't like or hate the Whitemoonlight here. He's just there to make the relationship between MC and ML get better. It wasn't even mentioned whether he wanted to rekindle the realtionship between him and ML. The MC. I can sometimes get where he's coming from.

The fact that he sacrificed a lot for this realtionship where the ML doesn't even appreciate, and he said he was getting tired of it. If I was in his situation, I would have ended this tiring relationship where he is the only one trying to maintain this relationship.

So yea, there are many loopholes and unsatisfactory points here and there in the novel, but it wasn't bad enough to drop. Well, if you want to read some light novel where the ML is s*upid and a crybag always asking for forgiveness and soft-hearted MC, this is it for you. But don't expect a very good and worth-reading plot. This is just dog-blooded (?) and full of dog food yea. <<less

Mixed feelings with this one tbh. I like that there’s not much drama but I also don’t feel happy on how it ended. I think it’s because there are still many things that needs to be tackled such as the domestic ab*se (that was literally not mentioned again). The focus was on the goddamn shoes when it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Cry me a river but there’s no way that the ML giving him the original shoes was enough for the MC to earn his forgiveness. I feel like this story have potential but sadly it just doesn't get there. It might be because the story was short so there are many things that feels way too rushed and some wasn't even explained like wtf did he buy the expensive shoes for his first love? I mean if I was MC I would be pissed off as well. Overall, this story is not that bad but it's not that great either.

The great thing about this novel is it highlights the difference between loving someone and actively working to love someone. Our ML is not a scum and the MC is aware of his own limitations and the sacrifice he needs to feel secure in his relationship. Its a very sweet story.

I really love how the author makes it so clear why the ML loves the MC. How could he not love the person who prioritized and treasured him for three years, comforted him in his despair and gave him a home? He does not make a big declaration. Rather his actions and actively working to overcome his shortcomings communicate the depth of his feelings very well.

Highly recommend. <<less

Very simple and short.

A bit cathartic too for those who can relate to MC's situation. The best thing about this is that both protagonists learned to love and respect themselves more (MC breaking away from ML, ML breaking away from his white moonlight).

I also like how it pointed out that you really cannot change people no matter how much you love them. They'll only change if they're willing to treat you better.

I'm giving it a 5 to pull the scores up because while it's not the best, it's still a... more>> lot better than those with nasty noncon/dubcon and actual messy dog blood. <<less

This was too short a novel but was good. Its quite realistic and relatable especially for those who have gone through the same experience where their partner took them for granted, cheated, and chose to change and ask for a second chance, with the other party also choosing to get back together because there were still genuine feelings for their partner and was willing to risk getting hurt again and believing that it could still work out while keeping in mind that it might not, and be willing to accept... more>> if it doesn't. The drama only took up thirty to forty percent of the novel so I wouldn't classify it as dog blood, and also because the dramatic events were believable and not cringeworthy.

This had a lot of potential in my opinion and could have been better if the story and the characters were fleshed out even more, but otherwise this was good. If you're looking for a quick read you might want to give this a chance. <<less

Hey I don't really know about the dog blood as mentioned by the previous reviewer (maybe because I've read those maddening dogblood novels like I was drinking water XD) but the story is more like of repentance.

Repenting your first unrequited love

Repenting that due to holding onto that faint hope for the first love hurting your most precious love.

... more>> Repenting that you came to your senses only after you've hurt your only love that cared about you more than himself.

Etc etc~

The chapters are like super super short and I finished it in like 20 mins XD... Unlike the summary you don't have to be scared that it will end in sad ending... And yes unlike the summary

why the ML fell in love with him~I am not a psychologist or anything of those sort so I wont really know unless the author specifies it. Maybe his love for his first crush faded after all most romance end when the people's love for each other fades. So the author did one thing good is that they showed what happens when many years passes and the love hasnt faded. I like this one part of the story.

Short but cute and very enjoyable. Although the MC was very miserable at the beginning I liked how it developed and was resolved. Although I can't understand the MLs reasoning in those chapters...

Still I enjoyed it. It was a happy ending. Glad it wasn't too long. Good translation

I really disliked MC and the way he treated ML. From what I understood, he would put ML in difficult situations knowing that he has financial issues just to test him. I'm not saying that ML was right either to be gifting his white moonlight such an expensive gift but MC basically forced him to isolation after the incident. It also gives off the sense that MC groomed ML since there's such an power/age gap. Like sure, MC did make many sacrifices in the relationship but ML wasn't even out... more>> of high school when they got together. <<less
