“I fell onto your shoulder, like coming home.”

Becoming a policeman wasn’t Qin An’s original intention. That was just a certain someone’s dream. With Qin An’s grades, he could easily choose any top-tier university, but he willingly dropped fifty points to attend a public security university.

Gradually, he felt that attending a public security university was pretty good. At least they managed him almost like it was the military, keeping him very busy. This way, he wouldn’t have time to think about a certain someone who had suddenly vanished.

Recently, there has been a very skinny youth with a large dog, always standing at the entrance of Tianyi High School. He watches the school gates like an eagle hunting for prey.

His name is Yan Shisan. When he sees the students start to leave, he yells, “Is Qin An done with class?”

He waits for Qin An to finish class, either to beat him up or ask for money. But in the end, Yan Shisan doesn’t succeed in doing either.

I’m someone who can be, at times, very picky about writing. Desperation and boredom during the pandemic have had me reading basically anything I can get my hands on, but I’ve been one to leave a novel because I don’t like the first sentence.

I say all this because, 9 chapters in, I already want a printed copy of this English translation on my bookshelf. The opening was riveting, the character’s interactions and feelings are realistic and not awkwardly described (I don’t think I’ve seen the term ‘peach blossom eyes’ once!).... more>> The exposition isn’t clunky - in fact, there was one scene I assumed we’d get an info dump, and we didn’t.

I’m now a true fan of this author, and I thank the translator as well for so faithfully reproducing in the work in a way that allows me to fully immerse myself and enjoy the story. Keep up the good work! I look forward to your updates. Highly recommend to anyone who’s looking to pick up a new danmei to follow. <<less
