this novel should have ended way earlier than it did. All of the arcs had the same structure: begining where something had changed, the middle where you were bored to death and the end where something crazy happened.

3 stars cause there were moments I enjoyed, but I wanted to stop reading several times. Also the ending of the whole novel? I didn't get it

My first and biggest complaint is the translation available. I'm not saying I'm not grateful, I am truly privileged to be reading these translations for free. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for critique. The later chapters are so out of order, several times. I had to figure it out myself as they are listed like they are in order when they're not. Had to double back several times. According to the notes the chapters where previously sponsored or paid for, which I find very disappointing due to lack... more>> of quality. A lot of grammatical errors, and in general too direct a translation. A translation should flow well from the translated language without taking too much from the original text. Dialogue was stiff and unnatural for English, a lot of tenses where incorrect. Probably the most difficult translation I have read so far. Regardless, I am very thankful that the story was translated at all :)

Overall the story is wonderfully written. The plot is unique and fun.

My next complaint is the h*mophobia in a world that is supposed to be set in the future, and is more technologically advanced. **Spoiler**

It is truly my own opinion that the subplot of internalized h*mophobia could be replaced with something else, or just be taken out all together. The conflict with the mother is plenty to have been a turning point for the plot. As someone who is LGBT, sometimes I don't want h*mophobia to be present in LGBT stories, as that is not the only experience every LGBT person has, and many of us don't want to relive what we have experience in our own lives. That being said, it was incredibly well done. As frustrating as He Jin was with his hot and cold feelings toward Qin Yang, it is a very realistic and accurate depiction of internalized h*mophobia and the troubles many LGBT people face in their relationships.

If you cannot stand a complicated and frustrating story line, I would say skip this. While the ending is very gratifying, it's disappointing to see the progress He Jin makes disappear, but it's a wonderful conflict to have in a story. **I have to say, seeing a lot of reviews I'm shocked people don't understand a traumatized mindset. I was frustrated too with He Jin, but he had grown up his WHOLE LIFE controlled and ab*sed. You don't get over a lifetime of suffering in one year. You fail over and over again. He did try, and he did fall back several times, and if it here me as Qin Yang, I wouldn't continue to pursue him. But thats what the love story is about. He Jin had inspired Qin Yang, gave him happiness that he held onto and never forgot. And He Jin never forgot his love and who he truly was, even thought he tried to. People aren't robots, they don't have perfect inputs and outputs, they are rarely ever perfectly logical. We are riddled with anxieties and trauma and insecurities. If you don't want to read about realistic relationships then go somewhere else, but don't give this read a bad review for reasons you don't even comprehend. I would definitely put trigger warning of *buse and *ape on this story. Do not read if these trigger you.

I was disappointed several times with the direction the author took Qin Yang's character, like threatening r*pe and physically assaulting He Jin. These instances soured my feelings for him as he had ways been depicted as a kind and patient person. Even when he is angry in the begining all he does is tease and 'bully' He Jin. R*pe and assault are huge toxic, red flag behaviors and they should not have been taken so lightly in the story.

The familial abuse hurt me so deeply when reading, I couldn't help but cry for He Jin. Children should grow up to be loved and given guidance to experience their freedom, and it was so horrible to read how terribly he was treated by the people who are supposed to love him the most. I was again frustrated with how he dealt with his family, and told himself he deserved to suffer for their happiness. In the end they all learned, but I could never forgive his family for hurting him the way they did. But, that kind of situation is deeply personal to every individual. Some are more forgiving than I.

Overall I loved this story, I loved the side characters and I loved the development of the relationship. There can always be Improvements, and my criticisms did not take away much from the story. I hope in the future writers will understand that r*pe and casual h*mophobia isn't funny and isn't a punch line or something you can just throw around casually. <<less

I started off really liking this. I really enjoyed the ML and the MC. The world building was quite interesting as well.

I got semi obsessed reading this, but then last night... I got so pissed.

I was so angry at what was going on in the story. MC was being so s*upid and unreasonable, I think someone wrote that MC was the same as he was at the beginning, which I agree with. There was progress with his thought process, but then it completely reverts to the beginning, but there were... more>> so many better things he could have done but he was just being so dumb.

I got so mad I spent like 15 minutes cursing the author x-x

I had to stop, couldn't continue. Though before this it was a fun story. <<less

I love this novel, perhaps it being the very first BL novel I have read, might have been a contributing factor for me to view it with rose tinted glasses. For me, it was a page turner and I wanted, no I needed to find out what happens to the two leads at every point. The struggles that beset the MC as he tries to accept his true self and several emotionally raw scenes are honest and unflinching. The ML while dashing and confident has his own personal demons -... more>> I was both drawn to him and repulsed by aspects of his character.

For me, the novel provided a window into life in China today. The push and pull of culture and family obligations and expectations against a very personal need to find happiness, to confront and challange societal and cultural norms - are still universally shared by many people of Chinese (and Asian) descent, wherever we are in the world.

Perhaps, another reason I love the novel is that it triggered reflective moments and responses throughout the novel. I love a good cry as much as a warm and fuzzy feeling.

If there is a criticism, it would be the portrayal of the relationship between MC and ML, which subscribes to a conventional "male/female" role, but that might have been a deliberate choice by the author to reflect societal view, or the nature of this genre of writing. <<less

♡ (ӦvӦ。) Another enjoyable read but as much as the characters had almost realistic environment, it still made me feel a bit bitter. I guess it probably from my own experience so even if the situation that happened was solved, the MC has grown and all of that good stuff at the end I still feel a bit unreconciled. ┐ (‘~`;) ┌

Boi I didn't expect this one to be so heart-wrenching. Like it's so painful (I emphatized too much and easily get hurt ಥಥ) The issue is so real. I cl**ked this because I'm hoping for pure fluff, happy, gaming related Danmei but damn. This is why I find this worth remembering. The issue is realistic. It's real.

SOLID 4.5. This is my gateway to danmei novels and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I finished it a weeks ago and not giving a review would be a disservice lol.

I'm not into MMORPGs themes as I never experienced playing one, but the author managed to deliver an engaging story that will make your imagination wild. The characters have realistic thoughts and emotions and seeing their journey is a bitter-sweet experience. You'll experience their joys, sadness and anger (yes, you'll get angry a lot) and I forgot how many times I... more>> cried at 4am while reading this. 200 chapters are overwhelming, adding to the fact that the romance is a slow burn too, classic Xie and Qing, but please give it a read! <<less

The plot was really fun to read however I never actually finished the novel bc I lost interest after the main couple got together or when the MC found out who the ML is, I defintely had to stop it there, it became too dramatic or just uninteresting but that might only be bc im an absolute sucker for slow burns sigh. However I definitely reccomend everyone to give it a try, its truly good!! This novel was like my breakthrough towards mordern setting novels haha

Sweet reunion college romance with fluff and also substance. Fun online games courtship with real-life romancing.

Fluffy and cute in the beginning, but unexpectedly the tone gets heavy and serious as the story progresses. I even teared up in one of those touching moments. Nevertheless, there are quite a bit of comedic reliefs since this is supposed to be a rom-com. The romance is sweet, fun and uhmm... borderline stalkerish. The ML had an overwhelming obsession over the MC even when the MC was just a stranger to him back then... more>> when they met in an online game. That fellow actually waited for 8 freaking years for the MC to return to the game since his sudden disappearance. He then proceeded to cling to him and even try to pry into the MC's life and his personal information behind his back. The alert alarm is totally blaring here. Thank god, this is just a fiction. Phew!

The MC gets tons of character development, and the ML has some as well. I didn't expect this supposedly rom-com to turn so heavy and poignant halfway. Especially when the author introduces serious topics such as the harsh stigma of homosexuality, especially in Asian society. And the struggle of youngsters in most Chinese society strict upbringing that usually disregards individualism in favour of the authoritarian parenting approach. The latter is especially relatable to me.

The couple are pretty sweet together. The ML is most doting, although rather domineering. It's not easy for the ML to win the MC's heart and not easy for them to be together either. They have gone through lots of hardships to get that hard-earned HEA.

I find the story engaging and actually appreciates the last half of it more. This is an MMORPG genre story, so be ready for lots of gameplay scenes. Some might not like it, but it was okay for me as I could still enjoy this part even I am not a gamer. The author handles the sensitive topics well, and the emotional scenes are well written. The book is good enough that I might re-read it again in future as I often do with books I like.

I find the start very refreshing and cute, I got hooked with the main characters interactions and their character development to how the story unfold in an unexpected turn. Honestly, I didn't see that it would turn into such plot, I still enjoy it very much, took me probably 3- 4 days straight to finish this.

If you are into possessive/obsessive love interest that dots on the main character, then of course this one's for you

The pacing of the story is all over the place and the translation gets messy in the middle, including bad word choices and completely missing text (missing dialogue in the middle of a conversation, scenes that are unfinished or start in the middle of nowhere). One of the readers who read the raws had to explain a joke that the translator didn't manage to translate. I'm not the only one who noticed, there were clearly confused readers too. But the translation improves significantly in the last third of the story.

It's... more>> hard to tell whether the translation is the issue or the original story but the pacing of the story is rushed in parts, dragged out in parts. It's why I'm ultimately giving it 3 stars.

I will say it's a pretty good depiction of someone struggling between their personal happiness and their parents, reconciling what they feel they owe their parents and what they owe to themselves. The over-strict, over-controlling, 'save all our money for our children's future and then guilt trip them' Asian parenting style is spot-on and I did like that they showed more than one type of parenting, that not all parents are like that. The writer didn't shy away from the mental health issues and they weren't easy to resolve (for the most part). To my surprise, despite my grumbling about the pacing, I still felt myself tearing up at one of the chapters.

The romantic development I felt was a little hampered by the uneven pacing but I did like it better in the latter half of the story although I did feel it was rather rushed once they hit the resolution. I've read some reviews hating on MC for breaking up with ML at one point but I thought it's a pretty realistic choice for the pressures he was undergoing.

Overall, this story contains two main elements: A romance that goes through much turbulence and a main character who has to eventually face hard decisions involving his parents. A third lesser element is the game (which is a bit of a shame, there were fun ideas there). <<less

Love this story ❤️

Spoiler

the story is about 2 young students who are playing an online game and how their relationship progress. It talks about how people meet in online games and how easy they disappear in life once you left that game.

[collapse]

This story is an HE so no need to worry. This will also make you cry at some point.

I really love how the author portrait the characters and at some point how it tackles the gaming community in real life. ?? Btw, I really like little dumpling. Though he became such a rouge just like his father Qin Yang. Hahaha

This story is really amazing and has many good detail in the story. Aq4.80 mark.. I really like how the author made MC has his love problem like in the real life world.

But even thought MC family dont accept the relationship at first.. He still told his family how he love ML and want a happy life with him.. It show here that MC Is not a coward person, on how to show his true feeling and I respect that deeply.
