This is a wonderful story full of wholesome cuteness and a constantly embarassed shou. The MC and ML are both naturally rather cold and logical characters, but bring out the more passionate and human side in each other. The MC is adorable and hilarious while the ML is initially portrayed as black-bellied but is really very supportive and motivating in the MC's journey of growth. It is a pleasure to read as the MC learns to enjoy life and becomes a person he can be proud of while the ML... more>> teases him into a puddle of embarassment.

I do have one problem but it's not really with the story itself. You see, at c49, some chapters become password-protected content. It would be fine, as the translator for those chapters provides the password, but it doesn't seem to work. At least, not for me. Now, I can still read the unedited version with some raws, but would prefer the proper version. Does anyone have a solution? I'm not sure if part of the site is broken or if it's just something on my end, but I really do want to read this story in a way that I can fully appreciate it. Please message me! Thank you! <<less

MC: 10/10: cute and dense online, but "calm and collected"-ish offline.

ML: 10/10: Very sweet towards the MC. As a character, He is actually pretty funny! He is like one of those shameless and persitent MCs aka, idiot MCs. On the other hand, he treats everyone else indifferently compared to how he treats his wifey.

Spoiler

Even when though was a low level player, he tried to take revenge on the high level player that killed him and his wife (MC). While his wifey wasn't around, He challenged the high level player ten times, but since his character was low level, he kept dying. Even when the High level player went offline, he waited for him until he went online to challenge him. The High level player was like "jfc! You again!" 😂

Relationship: 10/10 Fluffy RomCom type. Wifey Trope.

They already "know" each other online and unknowingly interact with each other offline.

Story: I feel like its a sweeter and cuter (and better) version of 59 seconds. So, If you liked 59 seconds, then you'll definitely like this, too!

Each chapter is gold! No boring parts whatsoever. Nothing is dragged on. The pacing is very nice.

(Do not get me wrong. I like 59 seconds, but there were times when it concentrated too much on the game and group chats that it got a bit boring at some parts because didn't give any romance factor until the latter half of the story. This, however, is full on adorable!) <<less

If you read this novel, be prepared to experience a rollercoaster of emotions.

The ML is suuch a 10/10, honestly.

The MC is a very insecure person. He has many traumas from his childhood and is therefore.. Very complicated.

... more>> It's not a 5/5 for me, because sometimes.. The story is just too angsty for my personal preferences.

But the story is very very sweet and it made me smile like an idiot during some chapters.

I would recommend giving this novel a try, if you like more realistic Bl stories and you can cope with some (*cough* unnecassary) family drama every so often. <<less

So far loving this and I keep refreshing for updates!

I like the characters very much. The way the ML nurtured his love for the MC gave me the feels. Imagine turning your teenage crush you briefly met online -- then gone AWOL for 8 years -- into someone you truly care for and then love is nothing short of amazing. The dedication and perseverance of the ML is just aww. The MC is older than the ML but the ML's EQ is higher so he is the anchor and driving... more>> force in the relationship so far. He is not super OP in the real world but in the game he is of course (why, he is the game's unofficial poster boy). Did I mention he has a swoon-worthy sexy voice? I just imagine Junichi Suwabe's voice on my head when he speaks...

The MC is a relatable fella anxiously growing up under his mother's watch which suppressed his personality. He is less inhibited in-game which describes many online avatars/personas we have actually. Internet anonymity and all that. On another note, he doesn't feel completely useless unlike the MC in Love You 59 Seconds in that this guy actually have skills apparent in the real world and not everything was handed to him on a silver platter. Don't get me wrong, I loved LY59S with all the kyaa moments but I feel this novel has more fleshed out characters and depth. The side characters are much more interesting too! <<less

Sweet junior high love. MMORPGs. Blissful reunion in college.

Waiting For You Online is the enactment of the dream most of us had while playing games when we were younger. We probably met a playmate on MapleStory and got married, thinking that they were "the one." Time breaks people apart, unfortunately, and many people eventually grow out of games to confront reality. Initially, WFYO appears to be a simple, two-dimensional love story whose sole purpose is to fancy readers' fantasies of what could happen if a virtual couple met in real... more>> life. The whole premise of the ML faithfully waiting for the MC for many years was ridiculous to me at first. Some of you probably agree. Rest assured, the writing, characters, and development get exponentially better as the story hits the halfway point.

It's an injustice to say that WFYO is just a fluffy danmei, especially if you evaluate it based on its MMORPG genre. The author dives heavily into dissecting the main character's thoughts, identity, and conflicts--in fact, this entire novel is pretty much a character study of the MC. It addresses serious and pervasive problems of modern (Chinese) society: seeking an individualistic identity, rebelling against parents, fighting the stigma associated with homosexuality, grappling with (clinical) depression, anxiety, and OCD, finding one's purpose in life, and learning to love. The MC is a medium for readers to relate to much of the turmoil that goes on in the novel. In contrast, the ML is a lot more distant from us and we don't get to read into him as well as the MC. His character is still fleshed out pretty well, but I find that his personality is nothing out of the ordinary. He doesn't manage to break free from the archetypal overprotective, black-bellied role that plagues the BL genre. His behavior in the game made me cringe a bit, but there's some decent justification for that as the story progresses.

Nothing comes easy in life, especially with relationships. WFYO does not shy away from ugly and often awkward topics such as masculinity and emasculation, social ostracism, and the infamous honeymoon phase (seriously, how many BL novels actually address this? Most relationships in this genre don't even come close to being as plausible as the one in WFYO).

To be frank, a lot of the scenes that took place in the game kind of bored me. I mostly skimmed them, since the real juice happens in real life. The tone of the story takes a huge turn after the halfway point as it starts addressing some pretty legit issues with relationships. I personally didn't mind it, especially since the emotional scenes were so well-written. The author's command of imagery and usage of details is breathtaking.

There are a few things in this novel that might trigger some PC people, but I think they're pretty minuscule and can easily be overlooked. (What I'm referring to is pretty typical of this genre, so not much of a warning here) Also just wanted to give a disclaimer that I MTL'd from Chapters 78 onwards using Baidu + referring to the og text from time to time to read some lines in Chinese. The novel was still readable and easy to understand, though it's possible that I may have missed a few things due to translation errors.

Worth reading? Yep. <<less

I don't even care this is one of the best out there, if your looking more towards the emotional interaction of the MC and ML. 100% recommend this.

I think I've fallen in love with the ML he so adorable, as we go further into detail about him I swear you'll agree with me, I am gushing with moe. Argggggghhhh.

And the main lead he is so shy, especially when he comes back to interact with our ML, I can't wait to read the rest of the chapters.

incredibly adorable, a bit slow and fast in romance (you will get what I mean when you read it). Satisfying slice of life pace. With the MC who is a bit slow in romance, calm in personality and has a inferiority complex with feelings of having never lived his own life truly under the control of his parents. ML is black-belly, knows what he wants and goes after it. But emotionally intelligent, as in he doesn't try to force the other guy or pressures him, far far away from all... more>> those forceful arrogant rapey tropes.

same brand like 59 seconds. But a different unique sweet flavor.

11/10. <<less

You'd think it was all fluff but there are deep relationship issues that real world couples also deal with. The author is magnanimous and offers to let you off the emotion train if you get uncomfortable but if you decide to hang on, the reward at the end will make you sigh and smile.

Fluffy & sweet~ gave me laugh here and there with MC & ML interaction.

Even though if you're not a gamer (coz I'm not), you definitely still can follow the story easily

Love ML character who always giving his best to support/help MC. On the other hand MC is also a person who has strong will, appreciate others effort & doesn't take things for granted.

Spoiler

there's a sad & down period for their relationship but it's a HE

It is my first time to finish a novel using MTL. The story was so good that's why even though I only understand about 80% of what's going on, it still manages to make me smile, cry, frustrated, and squeal.

The story isn't exactly original. Most parts are cliche. But-but-but, I love how the story revolves around the main characters and does not introduce unimportant characters. Almost all the characters contribute to the development of the story.

My favorite character was the ML, QY unlike most BL stories is not forceful, rape-y,... more>> and obsessive. I mean, he is most of those things but he actually takes into account the opinion of the MC. Which is a like for me.

Overall, I have a smile while reading this esp the first part. Since I read for enjoyment, and I enjoyed thr story this is a five star for me. :) <<less

Aaaahhhh!!! This is such a cute novel!! Why does it only have 20+ chapters translated for now?

The MC and ML are so cute and fluffy and I look like ab idiot with a huge smile plastered on my face because of it. No definite plot that I can see as of now. It's a cute abd fluffy read which is a nice break from the blood boiling novels i've read so far.

When I start reading this me expectation we’re actually really low due to the other comments.

But now actually really reading this, it’s actually really good, the characters acting are more like real life situations with few screens making the reading feel the cuteness, useless of the MC, and the romantic aura from both MC and ML.

Ahh~

I cannot wait tills the next chapter, it feels like each chapter really short, but there so many screens in there for those with vivid imagination is a real delicacy meal that you can’t taste... more>> just anywhere!!! <<less

As far as I've read - I have to say I really really enjoy it.

The MC is interesting, and has already had some minor growth which is more than some MCs get, the ML isn't some omnipotent figure, and is genuinely fascinating. Their history together in the game is slowly being unraveled and shows how in the 8 year absence of the MC he came to realize he's deeply in love. and tbh how it happens is cute as hell

The way the online game depicted feels real to me, and... more>> as a player of MMOs and games in general myself, while not everything makes sense it gets leeway, after all, it is fiction. However! Waiting for You Online really manages to capture some of the social charm that other gaming novels don't hit, or just completely ignore.

I'm already in love with the unfolding plot and characters, but... there's some weird stuff with the translations occasionally. With a bit of time, you can piece together the general meaning, but ayyyshadow is doing a machine translation, so there's definitely room to improve. In addition, just in general, this could really do with some editing. With the awkward translation with the unedited, sometimes confusingly written english, there's enough to enjoy the story, but if you're picky you might not be as immersed.

I am personally really looking forwards to future releases, and it looks like ayyyshadow may have gotten an editor/beta as the most recent chapter exceeded the others in quality. Here's to hoping this continues being translated, and that the translations continue to improve in quality! <<less

I actually waver between 4 and 5 star, 4 because I cant stand the MC parents, yes he refute in the end.I know the author tried to acumulate the abuse until he can't take it anymore but when MC finally separate from his parents it left me feeling rather frustated with his situation rather than relieved. 5 because I have to point that it was very realistic when the taxi driver advice him, yes, the frustation is realistic!

the MC is a wonderful protagonist and growing character and the ML is very patient. The romance is the main aspect but the gaming is well explained with the help of the translator's notes and the other characters are charming. The pacing of the development of their relationship very good (as of chapter 111). If the development was summarised it would look like the ML pushing to progress while the MC eventually says yes. BUT that is a very simple explanation and does not tell the whole story.

the MC... more>> is not perfect and he does make choices that hurt the relationship between him and the ML. But he changes and begins to find himself throughout the story. The ML is supportive and helps when the MC really needed him to be. But the MC changes because he chooses to. I feel like this is also a story of finding one's self and loving it.

His childhood and current situation made him be hesitant and nervous in his relationship with the ML.

Spoiler

The MC grow up with a very overbearing mother. She does not care or listen to how he feels about her controlling his life. A lot of his decisions were based on how his mother would feel despite the fact he is an adult. His mother would verbally and (when he was younger) physically attack him when he stepped out of line. This caused him to fear her. So despite him being an adult and having the ability to he did not drink and spend money on unnecessary things for pleasure. Due to this he even after he had left his mother's control he had a hard time accepting he was attracted to a man.

[collapse]

Spoiler

His relationship with the ML offline and online causes him to very confused. He finds himself falling in love with both of them. He becomes unsure (he doesn't know who the ML is IRL) if he loves the voice, if he is pushing his feeling for the online ML on to the offline ML, or if he just loves two people.

[collapse]

So far I really enjoy the story and don't have any big complaints and very few small complaints. In fact, I stayed up really late reading it because I really like this story. I would recommend this story and the translators did a really good job. :) <<less

I love this story. I think the "wife" MC is starting to grow and become more independent and realize what it is that he wants out of life and not let his mother control everything just because she thinks she can. With the help of the "husband" MC he has started to know who he is and it's not who his mother is forcing him to become. I love this story but I was just wondering if/when does this story get updated? I was also wondering where I can read... more>> the machine translation of this story because it's such a good story I really don't think I can wait for this story to be translated. <<less
