I was born with it.
The golden blood that can revive the dead.

Living deprived of freedom, yet holding onto the hope of someday seeing the sea, I spent each day.

Until I met the boy dying alone in the forest.

“You’re not one of my people. Who are you?”
“S-Se…secret.”

From that intertwined fate, waves began to ripple through my quiet daily life, much like a still lake.

“Outside is dangerous, Seri. Always be careful! Why is this simple request so difficult for you?”

Little by little,

“I am a liar, little miss.”

Little by little,

“Of course. From the moment you became mine, I belong to you.”

Little by little.

Until finally, everything surrounding me reversed, swallowed mercilessly by that enormous wave.

“Hush.”

The girl who didn’t want to become an adult and the boy who had to become one,

“Ru, no, Your Highness, I want to propose a contractual engagement.”
“Go on, say it once more.”

Finally embracing the tangled destiny, they became adults.

The reason I'm not giving this a star is because the author made such a turn in chapter 30s that I totally lost my focus on the characters and got annoyed by the uncomfortable sisters-identity misunderstanding. Apparently, that misunderstanding was the pillar of this book because when I skimmed the novel to see if it was a short-term thing, she decided to reveal her identity in ... more>>

chapter 135... Then couldn't do it until 145. ML learned about her at the last moment too... UGH!

They really should add this aspect as a tag instead of "lovers united"... I'm pretty sure we have something like that related to identity on this site.

I'd definitely be annoyed to death if I continued so I'm dropping this before I give it a 1 star. If this trope is your thing go ahead, read it, I made my warnings.

Other notes:

+FL's parents adopting a "male" to become their heir made me bitter, just educate your daughters you pricks... Well, her father wasn't exactly a good character either so... Anyway, this book has magic in it, so why not decide on a female heir? That's my own preference so this is not a real complaint.

+Balcony slipping scene: Ridiculous. It could be better if the author didn't summarize "her little mistake" with one single sentence. The writer should open that to us, and make it acceptable.

+Also, the translation notes are distracting and never should be in the middle of the chapter... Some of them were, excuse me but, so icky that I had to stop. Adding them as notes at the end of the chapters would be totally fine. Ah, and sneakly putting premium chapter (35) to a free novel is just offensive. <<less

This was a pretty good, solid, light romance. After an introductory tale where a young shut-in girl with a secret power revived and helped a mysterious boy who showed up in the forest beyond her manor, and subsequently had her family destroyed as part of the struggle for the emperor's throne, we time-skip ten years into the future where the remainder of the story focuses around a single misunderstanding: the emperor (lost boy) asked for the elder (wrong) sister's hand in marriage, and the younger (right) sister had to take... more>> on her sibling's appearance and role so as to not put her family in trouble when the older sister fled for another country with her beau. It's painful, but not unbearably so. The angst is lightweight. It has a lot of cute moments.

My main trouble with the novel is that it feels like it should have been twice as long. There are -many- well-developed characters who we barely see, and one who has a vital and pivotal role that is only explained in a single Epilogue (side-story) chapter. That person could've had their own running subplot through the entire novel. It would've been amazing.

Additionally, the ending was very rushed and messy, and depressing to the point of being upsetting for -every- character but the male and female leads.

Spoiler

Every single side character and supporting character that was fleshed out so well and we got so attached to "forgot" the female lead at the very end. Her accomplishments weren't undone because they'd already resulted in arrests and changes to the laws, but all friendships, alliances, and recognition to get there ceased to exist. The main focus of the entire story was the female lead's inner turmoil and character growth as she forged connections with these people!!! It felt like we were told to read a novel and then, at the end, 2/3 of the pages were ripped out.

[collapse]

The side stories both helped a bit to tie up loose ends with a couple chapters, but raised more depressing questions with others.

So, while it was good that things turned out in the end it was ultimately an unfulfilling story to read. So much misery was never resolved, the FL and ML just went off into the sunset.

PS: Regarding when the FL's secret was revealed:

Spoiler

It became pretty obvious that by chapter 125 the emperor knew who she really was, but a later scene indicated that he'd guessed some time before. Basically, about the time he starts treating her like a real human he'd guessed for sure. (Seriously.... that guy.) Her identity wasn't sorted out until the very last chapters and, tbh... it was pretty anticlimactic. She didn't actually explain anything to him, such as what happened or why she was pretending to be her sister, and she never even actually confessed who she was, herself, or the secrets she held. Just gave her real name when he indicated that all of his memories were intact.

So... if you're looking forward to a touching confession scene where everything is laid out and all grievances are resolved, it doesn't exist.

[collapse]

Edit: My most lingering grievance with this is that the whole premise the story was based on (mistaken identity) could have been resolved at -any- moment if the emperor had spent five seconds doing a background check on the FL or her family (which, during the story, he does on other people) but... for some reason.. this never happened for the mysterious girl he met in the woods who he was going to make his empress. <<less
