Five stars at the moment, I'll update the review when I'll finish the novel. Please ignore the very confusing novel's description and give it a try, it's a very good novel.

Huang Rang is a very nuanced character. Coming from a humble background, she works hard in maintaining an image of a beautiful and pure soul to attract Xie Hongchen and become the wife of an Immortal Sect Leader. Her relationship wish her husband is complicated. Although she initially approached him with the goal of securing a stable life for herself, in the following 100 years of marriage, she really falls in love with him but Xie Hongchen never reciprocates her feelings. The more he is tempted by her, the more he despises her because he considers her a temptation, not worthy of him. In the surface, they are a loving couple but in private, they rarely interact till the point that when she disappears, because she is being kidnapped, for the following ten years, he isn't worried and spend very little effort in looking for her. On the contrary, Di Yiqiu, who she just met a couple of times, treats her with respect and kindness.

In the dreams Huang Rang is very meticulous and committed to take down the man who made her fall into a vegetative state. This is completely Huang Rang's story to revenge, she doesn't need to rely on someone else to achieve her goals. The dreams are also a way to accept her past mistakes and let go of her old feelings <<less

I really like this novel.

Characters are super cool and it is the most realistic falling in love that I have seen in ages (at least for FL love to our ML) !
other nice features to point out:

- novel is great at keeping suspense. You know these cliches of revenge stories when first we know all the thoughts of the protagonist and then see him to perform it in reality? Although that gives us satisfaction (who doesn’t love nice face-slapping story, hah) it becomes kinda repetitive. Here, however, we first see actions and see the situation unfold in real time — I was so immersed that didn’t slept until early in the morning to finish an arc.

- interesting personalities. I love main leads, I love background characters. You don’t fall in love them immediately because the novel doesn’t talk like “he was so great yada yada yada” BUT shows you though characters’ actions and their interactions. Especially true for our female lead — I don’t like too cunning FL and so was a little prejudiced about her after reading novels’ description. However, she isn’t evil or conspiring for the sake of conspiring or striving to achieve something to trample on the others. She is just clever and wants to live a decent live, so why not change it for a great life if one has the chance and abilities to do so? She is just pragmatic and in my opinion

At first I was kinda hesitant to read this novel because of the premise with that “dreams” that kinda affect reality. All these things with Deus Machina are usually kinda meh to me, but not in this case. Why?

- first the FL gets her revenge BY HERSELF in a realistic way. I mean no superpowers, just different choices and some manipulation within a rational scope. It’s a rare sight.

- dreams are kinda like stories with reincarnation stories but in a good way, ahaha. Don’t know how to say it without spoilers, but the consequences are not that dire for us to say “oh Mary Sue”. Nah. It’s nice

- we have interactions with the ML in dreams and it is gold ahahaha. He is legitimately funny (not because of the jokes or sth, but you’ll understand). We see how they fall in love

what else?
all in all, a very interesting read. It’s not an emotional roller coaster like some good dog-blood face-slapping novels, but it’s more like a classic read in xianxia setting. Again “dreams” can feel kinda odd in the description, but they were executed perfectly, don’t worry. It’s believable. The beginning is a tiny little bit slow, but it sets the picture for later, so yeah. Ah! One last thing: if you find unpleasant that FL didn’t like her future partner from the start and rejected him — you will see why. Like even if you are not strategically trying to find yourself a better life, just on the basis that you had to rely on your husband according to the norms at that time — he was not looking reliable at that time. Like, you can’t say yes just because the other person likes you (and with our FL’s looks it would be even more impossible), so no fault of the FL, yeah. Of coarse the ML is not at fault either, but... let’s just accept it he is kinda dum-dum in his ways to cater to a girl. It’s like from the anecdote with “are you solution oriented or in the feelings stage?” But for him he goes strait to solution with no second thought and it’s sometimes... ahh. Like I get you, man, but I’m completely on the FL’ side here, ahaha 😂 woman solidarity so to say

well, I hope you give this novel a try, because it deserves it. Literally NO IDEA why not so many readers yet - probably the translation was quite fast (LOVE IT, VERY NICE TO READ) and people just didn’t have time to find it yet, but it’s a gem.

I really enjoyed this one! An emotionally complex story. If this ever gets adapted to become a drama I can see it being a huge hit. It's a little different from the usual stories because she goes back in time in her dreams (so it's not a true rebirth) which alters the present in some ways. I really like how through the dreams, FL's view of love evolved from one of pure interests to one based on the heart. You can't fault the FL for being the way she initially... more>> was due to her upbringing and the things she experienced. She was never exposed to true love and care from others. But through the dreams, she grows as a person, from someone who was resentful and living purely for revenge to cherishing the people around her and the greater good of the world. She learns from her mistakes and realizes she needs to live true to herself and what she wants. She was able to come to terms and wash away any entanglements she had with various people she met in her life. It has a splash of angst which I love haha <<less

This story just really tooooo good. With its unique storyline, with not the normal cliché reborn or qt or transmigration, author have the MC dream of her lives in 4 different timeline. But each dream let the story intrigue and mystery closer and closer to the depths of the story. And every thing will fall into place. The human nature written here let you think if you were in their shoes will you want to wake up in those dreams and the action, doubts, decisions made all make a significant... more>> impact in real life. it's my first time writing a review! a novel worth reading for sure! the author had a clear direction for the plot, theme and MC character development.

as the other reviewers have pointed out, the premise that sets this novel apart from the other reincarnation/ returning-to-the-past novels is that:

1. it is not reincarnation
2. it is an alternative timeline that impacts the current timeline
3. possibly inevitable awakening aka return to the current timeline? (who knows right? read the novel)

i want to talk about the theme and that can't be done without discussing the novel's... more>> title. the chosen translated title is "unconscious" but its literal meaning is somewhat closer to "not waking up". what are the characters in the novel "not waking up" from? a dream? a vegetative state?

other than referring to not waking up from a literal state, the title can also be used to refer to someone who is stuck in a certain mental state/ cycle of behaviour that is viewed as undesirable. again, what patterns are the characters stuck in and refusing to see/ change?

the dreamer often does not want to be awakened. afterall, awakening means facing reality, which is often not as beautiful as dreams. the loud cry of the novel is: "i don't want to wake up!" but behind it, there's a soft whimper of "but I will/ have to...". it is this reluctance and pain of awakening that makes this novel stand out to me (dw it's HE) and it's probably the reason why the title is "not wake up" and not "wake up".

anyway, if you read till here, you are amazing and ily haha! ik this is probably not the kind of review you are looking for but really wanted to share some nuances in the title that might have been missed by readers who don't understand Chinese :) ily and see y'all in my next review, bye!! <<less

The final battle/big reveal of the main villain was a bit wth and confusing as hell, but overall an interesting novel. There is no love at first sight and their feelings develop over time. ML is such a simp for MC. The angst that MC's ex-husband experienced was simply marvelous, and MC moving on emotionally from that was such a growth.

Great story and translation.

Very interesting and different plot. Intricate interweaving timeline of 3 dreams and one final showdown dream. I wish there were more of these kind of stories rather than transmigration/ rebirths. The dreams are like second chances but more enhanced and engrossing.

The villain is truly villainous and well hidden and the ending satisfactory. Worth re-reading!

It's a very compelling read. The novel is quite moving and has a heavy atmosphere that is conveyed well to the reader. The translation is excellent! I really recommend it.

It's a lot more interesting than I first thought.

Every time she goes "back in time" she makes everyone else have the same dream of the past, and whatever happens in the dream affects reality but doesn't change the past.

In a way, I like that she's not actually changing the past, because one of the interesting parts is finding out how the other people affected by the changes in the dream feel about what happened in it compared to what they know actually happened in the past.

There are many things the... more>> FL is not aware of about the world, since she lived a very secluded life, but by making different choices with bigger freedom for error (since she knows it's just a dream), she has the chance to see and learn about things in the past that shaped the future.

And I love that her biggest motivation is revenge, now all her scheming in her dreams is just to make her enemies suffer in reality.

The translator is doing a great job, and I can't wait to see what other moments in her past she dreams about and how she decides to change them.

Edit: Watching her relationship with the ML develop while they heal and accept each other, and watching her interact with more people and learn that real kindness and warmth with no ulterior motives exists heals my heart ;u; <<less

I don’t usually read xianxia novel, sometimes I even avoided it, but this one really hit me hard. I cried everytime Huang Rang reminisce about her married life with Xie Hongchen, all her efforts that leads to nothing, it was really painful to read. What I like about this novel is that it’s unique and unpredictable, not the usual rebirth story. I really appreciate the ML here, and I’m glad its a happy ending for them.

I just recently started reading this novel, and all I can say that this is a very unique and interesting one! It's different from transmigration/rebirth/systems stories because Hua Rang (FL) influences the people around her and her surroundings through her dreams. I love her interactions with Di Yiqiu (ML) and how their relationship slowly grow. Hope the author continues to update regularly and thank you for translating this novel!
