Lin You He excelled in everything – his looks and accomplishments were all top notch, but he was very dense in the emotional department that made people feel frustrated.

Even if a marriage contract fell from the sky, he would not feel anything. All he knew was to remember his identity and fulfill the contract.

On the day of the wedding, he was still apologizing for his friends’ teasing.

“I’m sorry Mr. Lu, they don’t know the situation, so I hope you don’t mind……”

The other party lowered his eyes to look at him, “I don’t mind.”

Lin Yu He felt relieved, as he thought that the rumors were wrong and that the other party was not as insensitive as he was rumored to be.

Until that night, he did not manage to get any sleep.

The next day, Lin Yu He braced his sore legs and asked in a voice that was hoarse from crying, “Let me confirm again, we will divorce after the contract is over, right? The kind of mission last night only needs to be done once, right?”

The man who was about to reach out to help him massage his waist narrowed his eyes, his voice was low and his words curt: “No divorce, no stopping it.”

Lin Yu He: “……”

He looked at the man whose gaze was obscure, and finally had a change from his usual dullness, keenly perceiving the looming danger: “How about we talk about the divorce first……”

The next second, he was pinched at the back of his neck.

“Ning Ning.”

The man called him by his nickname, and his breath invading all his senses.

“You didn’t even look at me that seriously when we got married.”

“Also, last night wasn’t a mission.”

It's a really beautiful novel (and easy to MTL). The ML is very possessive toward out MC, but he hides it (at least until after the marriage, lol). The MC is completely lacking emotions when it comes to love. He is a med student with a minor in psychology, so he is aware of human anatomy and feelings, but he is mostly unaware of and indifferent to anything emotional due to his extensive neglect by his family and a trauma he had experienced in the past. But he is not... more>> timid, shy, or unable to do things.

In fact, the ML lets him solve his family problems on his own and just watches him, standing by to help him if asked, and to comfort him after, because he knows the MC can do it. As times passe, our seemingly soft MC becomes a strong guy who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the ML without thinking he doesn't deserve him. <<less

Plot is cliche.
Spoiler

basically arrange marriage between powerful gong and pitiful shu except gong actually like shu from before

[collapse]

The overall theme of the novel is cold, bright and vivid lighting, but depressing. The novel itself is full of fluff but the psychological tension/drama (?) is apparent throughout the novel.

However the novel itself is not suffocating and basically a light read. It focuses more on self healing.

When reading this, what I felt was calmness. We're reading from MCs pov and he is most of the time calm and indifferent.

The first part of the book gives a dreary world filled with snow feeling but the later part is like welcoming spring and summer.

Solid 4 stars.

At first I read it because it is something that I could just skim through for a few hours. It had the cliché of the "arranged marriage of the unfavored child". Another trope is the MC has high IQ but low EQ. Another is the trope of the overbearing CEO ML.

Man, was I wrong.

... more>> About the leads

The MC, Lin Yu He, has great IQ (honor student in medicine) but the extent of his IQ is shown throughout the whole novel. You should read it to find out but it is a cause of great relief and distress.

Here is my opinion regarding his "low eq". I think that he knows sincerity, gratitude. He is self-aware, even to a fault and doesn't have emotional outburst or emotionally deficit. He is good to his friends and avoids people with bad intentions. What he doesn' t understand is affection and care for himself specifically.

Regarding the ML, Lu Nan. He's fine if a tad overprotective. Maybe people will be turned off by him but I can really see his affection for Lin Yu He.

Then what is the story about?:

As said by a previous reviewer, it is a story revolving around self-healing of MC's trauma's. It has a lot to do with his mother, who has passed away, and his family's treatment of him. Here we learn that
Spoiler

MC has an intersection with the ML, Lu Nan in the past

.

I love the step by step process in which the MC learns to love himself.

Regarding the supporting characters, I really appreciated here is how they have a time to shine. There are some callbacks to supporting characters we meet and even get to know more some of them.

Basically recommended it for a warm writing. It isn't groundbreaking writing but there is a lot of heart here. <<less

A contractual marriage story which also touches on resolving the knot in MC's heart. A decent read to pass the time.

Spoiler

The whole story should've revolve around resolving MC's trauma but I was distracted by their kisses. A kiss here, a kiss there - the typical set of overbearing president's practice. I didn't like the ML. The stalking part is excusable to protect MC but the way he got MC to be intimate with him feels shady. And what's with all the groping and leaving marks on MC while MC is asleep? His actions are all too greasy for my taste. Remind you, there's a 10 years age gap and economical gap. He's the one holding the power in the relationship. But seeing that it's published years ago, it's understandable. That's the trend then.

If he could be more honest with MC, the story wouldn't have dragged till 100 chapters. So yes, I'm complaining about the author's ability. It could've been a truly heartfelt story instead of this. On the other hand, I love it when the ML realises that MC doesn't like him, he's only fulfilling his tasks. Hahaha. Aside from that, I also love MC's indifference towards his father. That's a pathetic father tbh.

Ahhh!! Like it a lot.

It's more of healing and sweet text. Not much of family drama. At first MC was quite indifferent but later on the progress was good between ML and MC. Though I cried 😭 a lot when I read about MC and ML past. But still it was good.

Highly recommend. Lots Of Love ❤.

On the surface, this novel appears to be another one of those timid shou x calm older gong novels. And I'm not saying it isn't, but there's more to the novel than that.

Despite the somewhat comedic tone set by the synopsis, there isn't much comedy to be found. Instead, this is a transformational bildungsroman based off of the novel's traumatized and emotionally stunted MC. Through his marriage to the supportive ML, MC learns to grow both as an individual and as a lover.

The beginning of the novel is wrought with... more>> psychological and philosophical dilemmas that plague MC, while the latter half is more fluffy.

I recommend this read if you're looking for a novel that is a little more substantive where the protagonists experience emotions other than love or lust. <<less

All 5 stars for the first couple, not much for the couple in the extra, meh.

I always liked novels with psychological troupes. This one didn't disappoint me, in fact I learned something nice. I love the relationship of ML and MC, where ML clearly knows when to push and when to step back, which totally puts him in my list of top 10 ML in modern novels. I wished to see some more development of MC becoming a doctor completely and all, but I know that journey is a really... more>> long one which is nearly never ending, however some more glimpses from his professional life would have been lovely.

What to say about the MC's father? They say that with a stepmother comes a step father. But this saying can be proven wrong in case of MC's father, he is a bad seed from the core. Luckily MC's mom isn't alive, or her sufferings would have been immense.

ML's assistant (our second couple from extra) and MC's childhood friend's story was rushed, kinda forced and unnecessary, Oh but I liked Cheese, the little meow.

All in all, it was a good read. <<less

It's a fluffy sweet story. Earlier chapters were good until the marriage lmao.

Is it something I want to read again? NOPE

There were so many couple's relationship matter, of how they tried to understand how to live as couple. Of MC to try to heal his mental wound, and tried to understand what love is actually.

Each families issue actually played a big part in MC's life and for ML's business, but too bad the author didnot elaborate more on them. Most frustratingly was how the author provided too little explanation of... more>> MC's father and step mother's pov/narration. I didnot know what's exactly MC's father feeling toward MC and what's his label for the reader to call, a scum father or a weak father??

All I read was sweet moments of couple without any indication of reaching to deal the problems the author presented at earlier chapters. Then the auhtor introduced new characters in the 15 last chapters, it felt like 'Ah, I couldnt write another sweet chapter, then let's invented new character', while ignoring old characters that could be written more instead. <<less

It’s what you would expect from the summary. I would recommend it to someone who enjoys this type of story.

Personally, I don’t like the ML much. He created this idea of a contract marriage with MC— for potentially justifiable reasons, since MC’s stepmother was trying to marry him off anyway— but uses the contract to pressure the MC into engaging in various behaviors (kissing, sleeping together, s*x, etc.) that the MC wouldn’t have agreed to otherwise. At the same time, he gets annoyed about MC treating the marriage purely like... more>> a contract, despite reinforcing that behavior. Otherwise ML is your typical “overbearing president”-type character.

MC’s terrible family was more interesting than you usually see in these stories. MC’s father loves him, but not enough to actually make sure the MC was doing ok emotionally. He doesn’t notice that the MC has completely disconnected from the family on an emotional level until MC is about to get married.

The evil step mother character treats MC badly, but she’s smart enough not to be completely over the top about it. She mostly dislikes the MC on principle, but doesn’t actually find the MC personally objectionable. For example, she apparently paid for the MC’s expensive throat surgery (presumably for her husband’s benefit more than anything), but held it over MC’s head that she did so.

There was a weird xenophobic line in one chapter about non-Chinese doctors being unkind, but I assume most regular readers of CN web novels are used to that sort of thing.

I wouldn’t recommend it to readers who have an issue with age gaps in relationships, since that aspect is played up.

Overall, it’s not too bad. <<less

MTL'd and it was doable.

I can't like the MC's personality.. Too wishy-washy, meek, pushover vibes. Feels like he'll just stand there like a wallflower for ML to fawn over. Not my type I guess.

It's actually kinda obvious that ML must've known MC prior to their engagement and that definitely demotivated me to read further.. I wanted, or I guess expected a good plot twist or something but at the rate where I'm going with this novel it just feels really stale.

MC just nods and is a 'yes' man to whatever... more>> happens around him, I wish he had a backbone and more personality. But maybe this type of character is to someone else's tastes.

It also would've been better if both MC and ML had an indifferent meeting or something (and gradually move towards simultaneously understanding each other) rather than it being one-sided with ML making the effort to start the conversation, pamper the MC and what not. It's like watching a dad take care of a son. It was hard to read. <<less

This novel is just okay, not great but also not awful, a bit of a waste of time but I don't feel like I've lost brain cells? It's an average fluff story with a pretty standard overbearing CEO ML and pure white cabbage MC. There's some talks of mental health, but it's not handled too well to be honest. The story is enjoyable during the fake relationship phase, and a bit less once they get into MC's trauma just because of ML's role as basically MC's caretaker. More on that... more>> later.

In the beginning, we've got all the hallmarks of a fake relationship, including an oblivious MC, a clearly whipped but hiding it ML, bed sharing and cohabilitation, and practice kissing, but unfortunately there's no mutual pining due to the way that MC's character is set up. MC treats the engagement as a task and is pretty detached from the whole situation, but he blushes easily when any affection is shown from ML. Nothing special really, but I do always like this particular cliche.

On the other side though, there's an omnipresent feeling of a big bad wolf, the ML, eating this innocent little cabbage, the MC, and their dynamic doesn't change much over the course of the novel. I don't hate ML's overbearing and cold president type, but this man is honestly just boring to read. He's got no personality beyond being an ice cube who only melts for the MC, which is a trope that's a dime a dozen at this point.

The age gap between MC (21) and ML (31) is emphasized and exaggerated repeatedly throughout the novel, and there's definitely an overemphasis on how innocent and inexperienced MC is vs the ML. Though there's no mention of ML's past relationships it can basically be assumed that he's probably also a virg*n so I really do struggle to believe this type of dynamic sometimes. Also I don't mind an age gap but this relationship feels more parental than romantic sometimes what with MC being referred to as a child so often, and ML always treating MC like he can't even tie his own shoelaces.

MC's body is quite weak, always being cold and having lung issues with his hereditary asthma. He's physically always on the verge of illness and has no sense of taking care of himself, which can get repetitive, and really just feels like a way for ML to swoop in and save the day. Not my favorite trope, but it hits an itch if you want some hurt/comfort or have daddy issues and want a partner to parent you. Which, MC clearly has daddy issues in spades so whatever works for them?

As a medical student with a secondary major in psychology, while he's good at the medical side, I really wasn't convinced that MC was trained in psychology in any way. He has a high IQ but very low EQ, as a result of childhood trauma which has numbed him to the world, and he has literally no meta-awareness of his own mental state. Despite it seeming out of place for a psych student to lack such understanding of his own trauma, Chinese culture still does really lack a solid understanding of mental health so I suppose it actually isn't completely unbelievable.

I do feel the portrayal of mental health was actually pretty good so it's just unfortunate that the therapist was so unprofessional:
Spoiler

MC's therapist reveals info to ML which I would probably deem some violation of doctor-patient confidentiality given MC is an adult and not ML's child. ML also listens in on one of their sessions without consent from MC which is such an invasion of privacy, I don't care about the intentions. MC is an adult and ML is not his guardian- there is no reason ML should be privy to these details without MC's explicit consent.

[collapse]

TL quality gets noticeably worse after the 40th chapter or so, with some basic grammatical errors that indicate MTL to me, but it's still readable. There's no translator notes either which is unfortunate as some words have context that's lost in translation. It's no literary piece and more just popcorn entertainment though so the subpar translation doesn't take away from the story too much.

Wouldn't really recommend but it's pretty easy reading. The smut is all fade to black as well so would not come for that. <<less

This story may be a bit hard to understand for some people. The way the author write is a bit weird but doable.

THIS IS MY REVIEW WITH LITERALLY SPOILER.

WARNING!

Spoiler

From what I read and understand, MC grow up with burden (mentally and physically). He always blame himself because he think he is the reason why his mother is dead. While health is something humans can never predict. He grow up never understanding these. He always thought this can be fixed. That also the reason why he chose medical as his profession. He has high IQ but very low EQ.

MC also misunderstood what is love. He perceive in visually rather than emotionally. That also the reason why he doesn't understand why his father can love someone right away. His perception become weird because of his father.

TBH, I cannot blame his father 100%. Because his father just do what he think is right. The only thing he done wrong is that he never pay attention closely toward his son. Not understanding that his son need professional help mentally because he never had to (Reason: His wife (MC mother) is a professional psychiatry.). But the hole that left because of her death was never filled. He himself was wreak because of it but his second wife filled the hole for him temporarily but never for his son. He himself never understand this. He thought that by having a wife equal to have a mother for the boy but unfortunately he has a very selfish wife. His second wife always display how she displeased by his son.

He actually carry a burden of shielded his son from his second wife family while has no power to shield MC from his second wife and step-daughter. He is very weak. Just because his wife financial situation is better than him people consistently ridiculed him. But he can never leave her because he is truly in love with her. For this reason, I call him selfish. She is his emotional support after his first wife died. Cutting her just like pealing the tape from the box. His decision to married her is not wrong but to aspect that she became a mother right away for MC is wrong.

MC father should actually properly introduced MC with his "lover" first before directly marry her. He should watch their reaction while with each other and solve the problem before marriage. As a result, that what happened to the family. Destroy and crumble. If only he done it, he can salvage his family.

MC stepmother:

Negative

  • Spoiled
  • Selfish
  • Manipulative
  • Possessive

Positive

  • Has a heart
  • Not abusive (just until MC was married)
  • Confident

ONE WORD- Spoiled

Especially by her family and now by her husband. Always thinking she is right. She has a heart but cloud by her parent spoiling treatments. She pay for MC bills because she think she should too but her parent make her think that MC and MC father should repay for what has she done with their way. TBH, she just repeating what her parent say to her listen to them 100%. That also the reason why she concealed and lied everything she do to MC from MC father. As a result, MC really think that he was wrongs. She really has a good potential for being a good parent but ruined by her parents. Her mental has been destroyed by them.

[collapse]

I want to continued write my review but I got of tired writing. Maybe I continue but I just post this first. OK BUH BYE! <<less
