I'm ambivalent about this. This is one of the earliest isekais that I read that tried the (still-rare) approach of starting the protagonist out with a socially-unacceptable party and having the entire world be against him because of his looks and companions. Some higher-tier characters did have the real feel of challenging him even when he is pushed to his limit, and could probably still threaten his life even at this stage, with a bit of luck and plot; that was also surprising to read in the isekai genre. However,... more>> as it moves past 150+ chapters, it starts slipping deeper into many of the same ruts that plague power-fantasy isekai stories.

Spoiler

He realizes he has a pretty broken reality-warping skill from the get-go, but that's still fine because he doesn't really abuse it too much as a win button. The story also introduces multiple isekai protagonists with completely differing aims from the get-go, and only one of them is an outright scumbag, so that was interesting as well. While Makoto usually coasted through, tension was still maintained through Hibiki having actual stakes and being far less overpowered than him, providing a good contrast.

The problem is, as the story goes on (c200+) and Makoto's power level continues to ramp higher and higher, the sense of danger for his faction is lost, which is a pretty big deal for a conflict-driven plot. He increasingly just seems to play around, sending weaker allies to deal with conflict rather than stepping in himself, even though he could. That smacks more of artificially-generated conflict than any real challenge. Furthermore, the moral standards of his party continue to slip further and further as his comrades only hew to his morality standards in front of him, but would really rather kill anyone who insults or resists him.

The only possible saving grace is that the author seems to be increasingly hinting at a bloodthirsty, careless and irresponsible persona that he will grow into if he continues on this path, if he is not simply using those scenes to show that Makoto will be way stronger in the future with no other hidden meaning. If the author reveals that this is a subversion of the typical path that the protagonist is going to figure out how to slip out of, it might redeem the WN. Otherwise, it will become one of those series that starts off strong and ends meaninglessly.

Holy shit...

This author must have some mental issues... all of those suppressed emotion and buildup... never resolved properly... it feels like you're drinking lukewarm water.

I get it that he tried to make MC's thought to seem 'jumbled' for emphasizing his attachment of modern day peace-drunkenness. Author keeps saying that MC is naive, then proceed to build some suspense, made the MC depressed, and resolve it in : (1) some shitty lighthearted way --- (2) or not at all. These kind of suspense are okay, if resolved correctly, and in timely... more>> manner... but you aren't supposed to keep doing it for like 130+ chapters, frustrating readers for on every possibilities of catharsis. I don't even know why I keep reading this, I felt like I am turning into a masochist.

To all potential readers, Give it a chance. The MC is simple in nature but in my opinion that leads to an easier character growth. The MC is not two-dimensional like most OP characters. He is defined by his naivete at the beginning and grows as a character. Plus the MC isn't even the main course when it comes to characters. All of the people around the MC have clearly defined personalities and wills that aren't reliant on the MC. Please give the novel a chance. P.S.- If you can't... more>> deal with a slower pace, I retract my previous statement.

Well... It was quite fun until you analyze the MC, he is a happy go lucky sociopath brat. Why?

he is over OPness. He have his harem he can't because them because they're like "family". It's a classic so I don't mind

but when the guy want to kill the enemy (she is a b*tch, yes, but hey) the others said it will cause Millions of innocent deaths he doesn't care!?

... more>> he summoned someone and the guy said that his parents are peasents he killed him and then he went to a hotspring!?

He don't "care" about the war and he want peace but supply the two armies!? WTF

I dont have other words and for all brats readers that are saying he is so badass sorry but he is worst than tr*shmoki. <<less

The story is fun but has a lot of problems, which is why I don't think it deserves a 5 stars. The MC is your atypical boring Isekai MC who is broken to all hell. The other characters seem bland, only redeeming point they have is their archetype and their one trait I.E. Dragon Waifu is a Weeaboo. The writing is very terrible in my honest opinion, there are times when I have trouble understanding just what the hell is going on, but as time goes it becomes a little... more>> bit more bearable & understandable. But if your a person who has little patience and are a very sharp person then I highly recommend you don't read it. Again, the story is fun though so if you have time to spare and can bear through the terrible writing then this is a time killing story. <<less

This is a really slow paced story. Has some nice moments of character development, especially with the MC. It was surprisingly honest when dealing with his strange tendencies and indifferent behavior, which we discover later on has a very dark reason. Characters overall are just a cut or two above average, with the exceptions of the MC and his close companions and the heroes. It has some troubles, though. A somewhat uneven tone and kind of unstable behavior of the main characters, even when considering their problems and flaws. Plotwise... more>> it has it's moments, it is above average. It is not a masterpiece, but overall is a compelling story. I'm really curious to see where the MC will end considering the somewhat recent developments about his personality. <<less

I really like this story, I'm going to abstaing in claiming it as a greatest story or the worse, but what I love of it is the MC, more that the actions that he takes is what he represents in there. The plot in itself can go on without him, but he alone has the power to actually change the course set so far. Also this WN has a good world building and a vaerity of characters that doesn't make the story depends on a single person.

It would look like mindless harem collecting at the start (since he got his two followers consecutively) but he's just really trying to live peacefully. The MC is not hiding his powers just because... He has a goal at taking down the Goddess (aka Bug/Cockroach) a peg or two and he won't be able to do it if she's caught wind and see him as a threat. So far, the story is developing quite well.

The main character got extremely annoying, not showing off your powers is fine, and not wanting to kill people is fine, I get that, not many people want to kill other people but when people start attacking your friends and try to take advantage of you and you still let them live. It just got way too annoying, the MC is just too naive.

For a hero summoning story, this turned out to be rather interesting. Our MC is granted godlike powers at the start, literally godlike. But instead of steam rolling over all obstacles in his path and using his cheat, it takes a different turn instead. While he does have a cheat, but it doesn't become the main focus of the story but it does grant him the trait of being overly powerful, still he lacks the skill to use his power effectively. He focuses more on establishing his faction and uncovering... more>> mysteries while trying to return (I forgot he wanted to return until they actually mentioned it, he seemed way too comfortable without a sense of urgency)

Our MC, despite being powerful is still able to exhibit characteristic of being a normal person which does help to add a tinge of realism. But as all story goes he has to get a harem sooner or later, it will be pointless to debate over how did he manage to charm them over as the whole point of being able to attract people in novels is a controversy. Despite that, I would say it was done in a better fashion than just love at first sight... actually, it was love at first sight damn it. Okay, it was a bit terrible, but the developments got better I guess. The interactions done between them are enjoyable.

His innate qualities are outstanding as any other MC, as for how the MC reacts... honestly I have no idea what direction is he going. Basically, he knows the current affairs of how badly the world is in, but only reacts it when he comes in contact with them.

Then we come to the romance, if you give us a harem we expect romance. I hate authors who just leads people on with possible occurrence of romance for the whole time. So far it is failing me in this aspect, his companions are totally fine with him except for the person himself.

Current thoughts
I like all these settings, faction-building, teaching, relation building but honestly I want to see the where is the real end of the story going. <<less

Shortly:
Slow paced story with good characters and an interesting world. With a normal and strong MC.

My thoughts after reading the bad/poor (1/2) ratings :
- Maybe for some people it is hard to follow the story? But everything is well explained...

- MC is not dull... that much. (1) He rejected his 2 "sexy" followers (for now?) because of his own will and not because he thought they "accidentally" are in his room. (2) The world full with beautiful who wants MC not because of love... and MC is not into that kind of women. So it is hard to find the good ones... (or something like this)

-It looks like some people sense of normal is pretty infected with s*upidly OP MC's from other novels? There are things MC don't like and do they expecting him to start mass mu*der/world domination to be normal?...

-Well, I can't argue with the "womens were thrown at him" part. Because his first follower really was. But the others has better or worse reasons. And in 99.99% of the WN's the protagonists first partner are like this. So I don't see much problem with it...

An enjoyable story, mostly light hearted with a bit of darkness here and there.

+ Protagonist doesn't follow the warrior/adventurer route like most transported stories.
+ Protagonist's comrades are non-humans with non-human common sense/values, so it leads to interestng interactions.
+ Protagonist is a bit of an odd one among the humans of that world, leading to a few interesting moments.

- Protagonist takes things to lightly, even though he encountered situations where lives and freedom were at stake: his first encounter with the orcs, his battle with demons, dragons, spider known as a calamity, s*avers, poisoning of innocent daughters... even with all of this he still takes things to lightly!!
- Protagonist was once described as one with normal teenage desires (with sometimes trouble to keep calm, he even went toward the red light district once), yet the rest of the time he isn't attracted to any of the numerous beautifull girls he encountered. He is in a world of beauties, but nothing, his teenage hormones just... disappeared.

This review is from someone who helped edit some of the earlier chapters. In truth, it's actually a good novel. However, there's people who don't like it for similar reasons of disliking Arifureta. This ISN'T a revenge story. Makoto (the MC) isn't that kind of person. He'd rather get his revenge if he chances upon the opportunity, so he's not hellbent of getting back at the bug (the goddess) who wronged him. He instead focuses himself on other goals like his Merchant business and his spatial domain where he welcomes... more>> many monsters and demi-humans who are suffering from the world. But a reminder, he still hates the bug with a passion.

In truth, this was both my introduction to web novels and the cons of isekai. Then again, it was from before I started reading some of the isekai revenge stories. <<less

Honestly, you have to be a complete idiot to write this one off.

The story has decent dramatic moments, real characters, interesting ethical proposals, and smart characters.

MC so many comments are calling a wuss? Here's some more information about what's actually going on:... more>>
Spoiler

1. The boy actively starts becoming racist because of the events of the story. This isn't good obviously, but it does make sense for the character and shows that the author isn't some idiot who doesn't understand his own character's predicament. He isn't blinded by the pretty appearances of the other characters and, in fact, begins to resent that aspect due to there being a real story.

2. His nativity isn't just skipped around using nonsense excuses like "people are afraid of him" or "they think he's smart dispite all signs pointing to him not knowing what he's doing". There's actually a mix of characters who treat him decently despite his appearance vs. Characters who look down on him because of his appearance. In fact, even the other Japanese characters start to see him more as a tool in their political chess game that can disrupt the balance of power. That's what his power is used as and see to be for. The counterargument is then given in the story.

3. The insane, obsessive actions of his girlfriends are given a reason in the story outside of just blindly attributing it to female nature or whatever. (Kuro to Maoh is an example of this not being the case and being very, very irritating) They're under a contract that's weighted in Makoto's favor. In fact, their behavior and the behavior of the MC is shown a few times to be explicitly negative and harmful to other characters in a way that doesn't excuse their behavior. Evil characters, like Mio, act evil.

4. He litterly kills over 10, 000 people and writes it off because of his disassociation from the act. Just because he has social anxiety doesn't mean he's weak willed. He's litterly psychotic. In fact, that is also a plot point that's brought up a few times. The story is not only showing that the character is doing evil but it's actually addressing it too. (More than I can say for most)

This review is more of a frustrated, sleepy counterargument to all the people with bad opinions giving this one star than it is a proper review. <<less

This is terrible. Really started reading it in around 2017 because it had a lot of 5 star reviews and recommendations but after reading most of the chapters available I'm starting to wonder why this has 4 stars total. The MC is...I don't want to say "a beta male" but that's the easiest way to describe him, it follows the typical tropes of "Some loser in the real world gets transported to another world, is still considered a loser but gets immediately op and just bumbles his way to a... more>> harem and political power, just because." I would like for people to stop giving things 5 stars just to offset bad reviews even if they are warranted. Characters are uninteresting and not fleshed out, story is absurdly slow paced and boring with a lot of chapters dedicated to just random aspects of Japanese culture as an info dump, and the MC is.... yeesh... <<less

You know, when I reached around chap.100 of this story, I asked myself why the heck I was still reading this story and thought, "Eh, this isn't anything special huh?". And so, I shelved (or just temporarily dropped. Is that the right term?) the story and switched to reading dozens of other novels for a while.

Then, when the reviews got plenty and I saw those, it compelled me to read the story again right from chapter one. You know what happened? Suddenly, for me, the entire story just became a... more>> lot better. That's the entirety of it. I can give my opinions about the plot, characters, worldbuilding, but even for me, I can't exactly pinpoint what made it better the second time around.

What I can tell you is that this novel belongs to the top 99th percentile of japanese isekai webnovels. I can tell you that the novel starts really mediocore, but gets better and better throughout story. I suggest reading until the Third or Fourth Volume before passing judgement, to give it a fair chance.

Welp, even if in the end it's still not to your liking, at least the author tried something different from others. In my opinion, that's what those who gave it a higher rating had thought (probably).

So again, just give it a try. <<less

As many say in this novel, the MC is mainly the most boring one atleast in the earlier chapters. But in the later chapters you will realize that he has reasons. For example he hated hyumans because of some things that happened. In a way he is generic but in a way he is not. As you read the later chapters it feels like he is kind of wearing a mask unconsciously. I think he is changing at this point.

I really don't know how to feel about this novel. To be honest, I wanted to give it 2 stars, but decided on 3 simply because the author seems to focus on things I personally don't like, rather then on bad writing. The first and only thing I will pick apart is the main character, cuz all side characters are generally well written (villains are mediocre, but that is how things usually are in Japanese novels with op protagonist). You know how every op character has to have a badass... more>> fearsome quirk in personality, like Alucard from Hellsing has disregard for inflicted damage, and Aizen just dodges and mindf*cks everyone around him. Yep, well, do you want to know what is the main badass quirk of Makoto? It is that he is dense as f*ck. I am not joking here. And the author succeeds in portreying him as such somehow.

Spoiler

About a hundred or so chapters in main character nukes the entire battlefield and acts like he dropped an ice cream. When he fights, he doesn't give out any killing intent, cuz he puts himself in auto mode, kinda like he is playing a game. He doesnt think much of human life because he got betrayed early on, but he himself doesnt realise the discrimination he is displaying.

[collapse]

The author does what he set out to do moderatelly well, but to me the main character is just downright creepy. Kinda like giving a 5 year old the launch codes to nuclear bomb. All in all, this novel is a good execution of a bad premise in my opinion <<less

I've read around 200 chapters of this and grew tired after a while. It gets stale with how the MC doesn't make any advances and has slow character development. There's no tension in most battles as his power is just overwhelming them with his infinite mana because of his training. The story feels one dimensional and the main character doesn't feel like there's a development and he is very unmotivated. This is probably due to the pacing and how the MC feels very plain. I do think it has been... more>> executed pretty well with how the author depicts the scenes with great detail and can explain most plot points. I think you'll grow tired of the story if it isn't for you.

It is a generic isekai with an OP MC executed well. <<less

The world is full of rainbows and unicorns to him, MC if not op is just some tr*sh that wouldn’t know how he died. He couldn’t adapt to new world still thinking or having the same mentality as before which is not normal. Even animals can adapt to different living environments let alone a human being who has intelligence. I don’t expect him to be a genius at anything but damn does he frustrate me, but than again what do I expect of a JP MC.
