A world famous, beautiful and rich model gives up everything to be with a guy, only to be mistreated and cheated on. She then proceeds to find a better guy to spoil her, and who doesn't mind her obsessing over her past.....

Honestly if she was willing to accept being used in the first place, there's no point being bitter about it after the fact.

Another series for bitter housewives. For a similar stories try Hidden Marriage or Underdog Versus Boss

I keep asking myself, 'why do I keep reading this?'

This is a story about a 26-year-old woman who had been oppressed by her soon-to-be husband aka her CEO. Miraculously, on her wedding day, the scum didn't come and she got to marry with the majestic, formidable, cold-to-everyone-but-not-her-apparently, ML. Smoothly, they began their mushy-mushy romantic newlywed life and didn't have their first night yet, well because, I don't know, the ML is already in love with her (although he never heard of her before and who wouldn't love the stranger that... more>> suddenly proposed to you in front of the counter alright?) that was waiting for her to love him back.

Soon began her journey of redemption and revenge. It's alright if she did it to other people because apparently, they all hated her for no reason, just because. They want her dead. Oh, so evil, so evil.

Yet, the loyal husband continue to support her from the back, helping her as much as he could. (Well, he helped her in everything)

The story revolve around our pitiful yet strong, beautiful, and very talented in every aspect.

She's not evil at all, when she destroyed other people career, other people company, other people life. No, it was righteous and self-defense.

There's no fault in anything she did.

Everywhere she goes, calamity will follow her and that's it. That's the story. It was endless, the scandal keep coming up, over and over again. Why not she just kill them? But hey, she's a nice person (a nice person that destroyed people life, but no she can't kill them because that would be mu*der.)

The end.

Edit : First of all, I'm sorry. Just had to say this.

"If someone were looking for a read that's of true quality and literary merit, why bother reading light novels? Stick to the professional literary circuit and go get books from the local library."

Literally the s*upidest thing I've ever read. Not all LN is like this, mind you. <<less

The plot is rather silly, you need to turn off your logical part of your brain to read this. The character is super silly as well. A 'young' model being ditched on her marriage day, found a silly super CEO, that check her background on the internet for few minutes before decided to marry her. No contract (things like asset, wealth, etc.), just verbal premise (how did he stay afloat in the business being this gullible?). And he being an awesome influential person of the century, help her new wife... more>> by watching of sideline while occasionally give strong momentum pressure on the mass media. The translation is rather good though.

"Honestly if she was willing to accept being used in the first place, there's no point being bitter about it after the fact." -dyrsy

At first ten chapter I thought, stop bully my MC!! Then ten chapter later I feel the same. <<less

I don't know why some reviews said that this story is not interesting and not rational. Maybe, because they haven't completed the whole story yet. At first, I didn't expect myself to love this story so much. I admit it's not my number one favourite but still among the top.

Yes, there may be so many obstacles along the road and it might seem illogical but one strong reason is that the female MC stand in the way of too many people and because she wanted to change the entertainment industry... more>> itself which is difficult.

And I really love the relationship between the MCs. It's a mature relationship with no childish tantrums and complete consideration and understanding for each other. People might think it's fast but judging from my own experiences and real life observations, fate can happen in so many ways and theirs are very reasonable.

It's a roller coaster of emotions I must say. I thought that it would be like other novels where everything will definitely go on their direction, but to a certain extent the plot really surprise me sometimes it caught me off guard. But that makes it more realistic cause life doesn't always go the way you wanted no matter how smart, kind and cautious you are.

And what I like the most is the relationship between people and understanding of human nature. It shows that you have to pay the price for your actions and anyone can turn around if they're willing to. One sentence in the novel said that in this world there is no absolute right or wrong.

Lastly, and surprisingly, I like the ending. Most novels have a rushed ending which ends at the wedding scene or so many questions are left behind. But this novel's ending really achieved the objective of the novel in my opinion that I really cried cause it's too beautiful. Of course, there are a few questions left but otherwise, when the story can end if you keep wanting more.

In conclusion, I recommend this for those who wish to read a novel with a more mature view because this is for those who are patient, love one-on-one mature marriage and can withstand emotional scenes. <<less

This is a pretty easy read but things are moving way too quickly to the point that it's even more unrealistic than normal. It's pretty much pure fluff but I can tell from how many chapters there are, there's going to be some ridiculous plot holes and twists going on. It's still a pretty good read though.

Spoiler

Like the synopsis says, the MC finds out that her fiancee has been cheating on her and on the day that they were going to register their marriage, actually threw her aside for his mistress/true love. That's when she meets the ML and the two immediately get hitched. The MC actually goes with the ML to a hotel room and agrees to have s*x with him because hey, why not? Except, she's a virg*n and the two don't go further. Like, I get one night stands but you don't go from hey, let's get hitched so I can get revenge on my d-bag fiance to meh, we're married, let's have s*x. Either way, the ML treats the MC very well and doesn't try to force the MC to do anything that she's not comfortable with so that's a huge plus in his favor.

[collapse]

The two villains, as of chapter 18, are the fiance and his mistress but they're really just plot devices who aren't too special and don't really accomplish anything. They're pretty weak as far as villains go.

Spoiler

Also unrealistic... the two of them almost have s*x in the same room that the MC was "sleeping in" before moving on to have s*x in the restroom, all within hearing distance from her. Um. Okay. MC was drunk, not dead.

[collapse]

Overall, it's an easy read that doesn't really require any thinking. You're not going to get anything of substance from this but it's a nice way to pass an afternoon. <<less

I don´t know what it is with this story but I can only say I love it! Yes, the way their relationship starts might not be realistic and there is a whole bunch of annoying people (especially the public), but in the end for me the heartwarming moments are too pleasing to dislike this story.

I also love the ending. We get to know a bit about all of them and finish with a romantic moment between Ning and Ting.

I did read the MTL for this story so I was quite happy to simply skim through the annoying chapters (full of people being jealous or just plain idiots). I´m pretty sure my rating would be a little lower if I had to wait for the next release before these moments are over.

Not a transmigration story or do over, but it sort has a similar feel. Because at 26 years old, a shut out runway model decides to suddenly make a life change that is completely different from how she lived before.

MC is a beautiful model with a cheating fiance who is constantly being stepped on by her family, fiance, fellow models, and basically everyone. When her slag of a fiance rushes off to go to his side girlfriend, the MC is left basically with no groom at the Civil's office. After... more>> overhearing another groom who is missing his bride at the Civil's office too, she decides to ask the guy to just marry her instead. This choice sets off the novel from basically a rags to riches type of theme.

The romance is pretty sweet with the MC suddenly finding the courage to challenge anything and anyone who stands in her way because now she finally has the emotional support behind her.

As for the all the plot machinations in the story, they get kind of repetitive. Because the MC is in the entertainment business, all the plot devices involve some sort of public slander, and then evidence of the actual truth. Followed by the MC's ultimate revenge on every one of her foes. The amount of villains in this series is non-stop. As soon as one is dealt with, another one pops up. The strange thing is that most of the villains become villains initially for really small reasons, like they are jealous at first sight. Being in the business for so long, all the foes based on such petty reasons seems repetitively boring.

At chapter 748, it's still ongoing and the romance is still strong, while new villains are continually coming to the fore. It's a relatively short read, but filled with a lot of action and plot. <<less

Before I get into it, some of the other reviews here are pure garbage. I thought the novel was ok and I've no issues with someone disagreeing but how useful are reviews with factual errors about the plot or with stuff like "lol skipped loads of chapters... story didnt make sense" or referring to character development as "side stories"? Come on.

Anyhow that aside. Going into this I knew what I was getting, a pure genre piece and that's what I got. It was solidly executed and if you're in the... more>> mood for something like this I'd recommend giving it a go. I think it's a step above similar novels in the genre for a few reasons which I'll dive into below.

The Good:

    • No s*xual violence. Seems sad that this is a pro but webnovel's sure do love their s*xual violence and this particular genre has several popular entries where the ML (repeatedly) r*pes the FL. There is one incident where you know a character was r*ped. But it happens "off screen".
    • Healthy relationship between the MC and ML. Both of them help one another, they show mutual love and respect. Their s*xual relationship feels like something that actual people would do.
    • Solid character progression. The characters, well largely the MC with a few notable side characters, experience some growth and change across the novel. The novel takes place across three broad career arcs and the transition between them is always justified in the text (not that I'm necessarily a fan but it is what it is).
    • The faceslapping is satisfying. It generally doesnt involve too much unbelievable bullshit, maybe a few too many happy coincidences but all in all its enjoyable.
    • Strong female lead and cast.
    • Some interesting commentary regarding the media and its interaction with and effect on the entertainment industry
So the main things you're reading this for, romance and face-slapping are well done. So what are the problems?

The Meh:

    • It's probably too long. It doesn't feel hugely bloated but there are a few arcs involving "minor villains" that didn't do a huge amount for the plot and could be excised to give the novel a tighter overall feel.
    • Some side characters largely disappear after their arcs. I think the author could have introduced less side characters and used the ones that they created for longer/a bit better.
I will say before I get into this that I'm not sure if these are unique to the author or are cultural issues. Considering they pop-up a lot in Chinese webnovels across all genres I think it might be the latter.

The Bad:

    • Sexism. It doesn't pop up often. Which makes it all the more jarring because when it does pop up it is some blatant bullshit.
    • h*mophobia/Transphobia - Again, very rare, but very (, very) blatant. sh*t like "He couldn't possibly be a transvestite because he was too manly."
    • Toxic gender roles - This is a bit more common, but again not supercommon (certainly not considering the book is 5K+ pages). But it's the usual "Women should have children. Men should be manly." shit. Even though the book frequently explicitly eschews those kind of tired gender roles. There's an entire sub-plot about it.
    • Children - This is related to the point above. But every character is so f*cking obsessed with people having kids that it deserves its own negative point. Then when they kids pop up they are largely relegated to set dressing.
    • Our Glorious Nation! - Soldiers and police are tippy toppy great. The glorious nation of China is great. f*ck the US (which I can agree with at least). Everyone should be a happy and healthy member of society. Entertainers have a moral obligation to contribute to society, etc.
    • People get too easily forgiven - Minor "villains" tend to get a free pass and are forgiven due to the main "villain" of that arc getting their due comeuppance e.g. the son who watched his mother get r*ped and beaten and lied about it, the husband who beat his six year old daughter to death fell in love so its cool (that one was particularly repugnant), an obsessed director who lets his daughter starve to death and a few other odious examples.

Firstly, set in modelling industry and not in movies. That is a plus for unique. The husband is Rich and powerful but it is female MC... ok.

First off, I rate this a 3. As in, you can read this. But ONLY if you have nothing else to read or you are looking for just random reads. It follows a daily soup kind of plot, with one drama event after another with no 'actual' long term plot or foreshadowing ever. It is just the serial for middle aged house wives.

Instead of... more>> focusing on the fluffy aspects of the genre, the author focuses on the actual profession and the sweetness of their relation. Good step. But what next? It maintains the same stuff, with one jealous enemy after another.

The female lead has an inconsistent personality. I will say this now: She has talent, but she made it big by telling (whether she wanted to or not) to her husband. So, anyone looking for a girl power series... This is a stretch.

The male lead is possessive... Like every other make lead. The enemy characters... Better not to talk about them.

The supporting cast gets some good romance/screen play, but not appreciable/good character development.

The face slapping and drama elements keep this popular... Not to mention the fan service s*x. Good soft core material.

Overall, more of a 2.75 rather than a 3. And you can bet that this will have a LOT of chapters, and the vague long term plot (if present) can be guessed after just reading the first chapter. Yup.

Perhaps I should change my rating...

Think of this as the female Emperor's Domination. Just, this has more competition. <<less

After reading this, I couldn't help wanting to leave a review. I've read some of the previous reviews and I have to agree with a lot of their points.

First off, I have to admit, I like this entertainment circle genre/subject quite a bit, I like strong female leads and strong male leads, and I like reading about face-slapping and all that, so I was really quite excited to read this novel. It's probably only because I like these things that I'm even giving it 3 stars instead of the 2... more>> it probably deserves.

Now, for the genre, it really isn't bad. The progression of how the female lead succeeds could even be considered exciting at times. However, like someone else said, it's so extremely repetitive and episodic. Moreover, as a reader, you never get a chance to chill and take a break from all the drama, attacks, and face-slapping situations the main character and her husband have to go through. It's frustrating and not as satisfying as it could have been.

Other than that, I felt like there were way too many low-key creepy male characters, somehow being repackaged as something cute or desirable; the "epilogue" was rather disappointing and almost made me regret reading it altogether because I was so unimpressed with where it went (probably also because there wasn't much sympathy built up for the characters it focuses on) ; and unfortunately, the love between the female and male lead, while cute, was far more about telling than showing. In other words, I didn't really feel convinced by their love, because again, there was never really a moment when they were just relaxed and being cute together but instead the author just tells you every few chapters that their love is unbreakable and all that. (I also didn't feel convinced about most of the side relationships either but that's a kind of whatever problem.)

Overall, there were just a lot of problems with this novel, for me anyway. Still, for the genre, it's not that bad a read. I just feel that there is definitely better out there with more satisfying endings.

--

Side note though, the translation was really done quite nicely! So, thank you for your hard work! <<less

Originally, I was going to give it a 3 but downgraded it to 2 the further along I read. I'll write down the stuff that I didn't like later. Before that though, I wanted to say something about translation quality. Actually, in that area, I'd give it a solid 4. It's a good, consistent read all throughout but the plot is where it just fails me.

It's the typical showbiz, revenge plot and doesn't really have anything new about it. It's somewhat refreshing that there are no misunderstandings with the main... more>> couple but I actually wished there was coz, in the long run, their interactions are downright bland and somewhat pretentious. It's so bland that you can actually skip out 5 to 6 paragraphs of their dialogue coz it's the same thing over and over again.

MC is talented as per usual. It's very annoying though how it's mentioned all the time. Of course, she's also, quite frankly, drop-dead gorgeous. Which, like her amazing talents, are always mentioned.

That's just the tip of the iceberg though. There are a lot of things that irritated me here. One of which is the repetitive mention of EQ.

Spoiler

It's ridiculous how often they talk about it. Especially in cases where talk shows, reporters, gossip columns and the like mention how high the celebrity's EQ is. That is so damn s*upid. Nobody cares about a celebrity's EQ. I have yet to see or read about an actor, model, etc. Being lauded for their high EQ and how great they're using it for interviews. It's ridiculous.

[collapse]

Another bone of contention I have for this story is how the author makes it out to be that MC is so intelligent that she always shuts up the media with her smarts. That's actually fine if written well. My problem with it here is that author made everybody else 10 notches s*upider than MC and ML. As if they had no smarts at all, which I found to be somewhat insulting somehow. Maybe coz it dumbs down the whole conflict for the reader (s) ? I'm not quite sure how to explain it.

Another minus for me was the reptetitive introductions of new villains. My problem with that is there's really no real threat coz your attachment to the villains is so small. I guess that's not really an issue in stories like this.

My final verdict? It's a completed novel so that's a plus. If face slapping is something you like, go ahead and read it. Note of warning though, pay-off takes a while and is tiring to read through to get there coz author seems to like to heighten frustration levels before giving supposedly deserved face slaps. No real danger happens to MC because her husband cleans up everything for her (which bummed me out actually. I wanted her to do it herself.) <<less

It's a fairy tale in the modern setting. Abused and helpless girl meets prince charming who sweeps her off her feet and offers her the world. In that sense, it delivers what it promises. It's cute and fluffy between the main couple, with everything dazzled and in bright lights; meanwhile the villains are painted as petty, senseless and outright nonsensical in every angle. Again: fairy tale.

Everything here is meant to be enjoyed as romantic fluff or virtuous face-slapping.

I don't know why people are complaining it's silly and illogical. If someone... more>> were looking for a read that's of true quality and literary merit, why bother reading light novels? Stick to the professional literary circuit and go get books from the local library. <<less

I guess the plot is not exactly super realistic, but I still like it.

There's a lot of face-slapping and scheming going on, so if you like those kind of stories then this is for you. I feel like the author explains the behind the scenes very well, and it also gives me a feeling of happiness when b*tches get what they deserve.

The plot is silly, really. (Sadly, not silly enough to get you laughing). I kept reading, chapter after chapter, hoping something would stick out, but no.

It is a fairy tale for kids with the added benefit of the prince helping his princess plan a little revenge for some inept negative protagonists. Everything is smooth sailing. There doesn't seem to be any challenge, cleverness of dialogue, suspense, intrigue or even gratifying romance. No fun side characters, just some supportive irrelevants.

Suspended logic is a common requirement in many novels, because it's fiction... more>> and leeway is allowed, but this is just meh.

It is unfortunate because the translation is good. I hope they pick up better stories next time. <<less

Let me begin by simply saying, I like this story. Its addictive, its interesting; it may be unrealistic with the quick progress but I still like it. It would be more precise to say that I like the characters in the novel.

I like their determination, their diligence and their unwillingness to give up to circumstances. All of these traits are commonplace... more>> in novels but are actually very valuable in reality.

Lol, the public and fans are really s*upid and have a really short term memory. So I have read 2 arcs and decided to drop this novel. The 2 arcs contain situations like this :

- There is a gossip about FL being a bad person, the public insults her.

- The truth come out, her agency is the one slandering her because of some reasons, public admire and praise FL and insult her agency.

Repeat the above situation for at least 3 times for EACH arc. Normal person will not trust easily... more>> an institution who is proven to lie for more than once about the same thing. Then here we have an agency that have been caught to suppressed and slandered the FL before and clearly have a bad relationship with FL, one day they released bad news about FL and without clear prove or anything, the public, even her own fans believe the agency on the same day and insulted the FL, without even trying to prove whether it's true or not first and it's haven't been that long since the agency caught lying.

It is my first time reading a novel of this kind of genre, so I don't know if they usually make the public and fans this s*upid. If you are fine with that, I guess the novel is not that bad. The author really makes the ML and FL against the world. Everybody schemes against FL and looks like it will be full of face slapping. I'm not planning to find it out, I really can't stand repeated s*upid things. <<less

Initially started off good, I didn't mind how quickly they fell for each / became devoted to each other, that's typical with this genre but so much stuff happened to her that didn't seem necessary. Sometimes it felt like the author dropped whatever storyline they were writing by how abruptly they resolved. I liked how the couple acted with each other, how supportive they were but at the same time they were too perfect, always knowing the other's mind. All there conflict was from outside forces, there was never a... more>> real issue between them that wasn't resolved in the same chapter. All the romances felt annoyingly excessive, everyone was getting paired up, even the kids were being arranged! Another issues was how big the cast of characters became, it was hard to keep track of who was who. Maybe it was a translation error or the author changed characters names. It kept trying to go to new levels of exciting but for me the quality started dropping off around

Overall, don't read it except if you have nothing.

Characters are not awfully done, but the plot is on a loop for hundreds of chapters (random person hates MC for no reason, creates trouble, endangers MC or someone close by, media prints demeaning titles, people on the internet write mean comments, due to a random twist MC or someone good gets ahold of evidence, press conference happens, people are stunned and in awe of the MC, bad guy/girl goes to prison or is disgraced, repeat with a twist or not). Endless... more>> brainless fan reactions to everything that happens is very annoying, just as the constant reminder of the characters IQ or EQ (seriously, wtf).

It's too bad because the setting (top model) is quite interesting, and the romance, while not very well done (way too sweet, I'm getting cavities just by reading), is somehow satisfying. The overall plot progression is also not cookie cutter material, even if it feels forced at times.

I won't even mention sexism or h*mophobia or blatant nationalism because I assume people know what they are getting into when reading a CN novel. <<less

I do like this novel quite a lot but, I keep having to take breaks from reading all the time. Literally, S*** happens to the main character all the time for no reason. The face slapping is really cool but the whole S*** keeps occurring will get old fast.

The premise attracted me to start reading because I was curious of the things she has planned to exact revenge. After she has done that things became a same-scenario cycle thingy. Almost like, the world is out to get her and since she's so amazing and is secretly married to an even more amazing man nothing can pull her down from the pedestal she worked hard on. (Tangning is amazing, I'm not being sarcastic.)

Oh well, I'll read again after a few hundred updates.
