Trash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

I really recommend this novel.

I really enjoy this novel. I get addicted to the story. Fantasy and action story without harem, this point make me enjoy reading this novel very much. The action part always hype me and the ending never disappoint me. I enjoy the light comedy in this story too.

I love Cale, the MC, and his ally. All of them have their own dream and they always do their best to achieve it together. They become family and cherish each other very much, so heartwarming.

All the characters in... more>> this novel get their own parts that tell about their stories and their developments. Each one of the characters have their own unique characteristics that make me can easily recognize & remember them. <<less

tr*sh of the Count's Family is a good story. Has a lot of premises and possesses the things that I liked in the story. This should've been five if not for the poor choice of words when having a conversation. It has poor translation as if it were a literal translation and the fact that they could've been creative in the words to create a character. Making use of simple words in a fantasy novel is atrocious in its sense. Although I can appreciate the lore and the world-building of... more>> this story and the characterization. It's almost there but a lot of flaws to fix. I hope they can fix the translation. My former professor once said, "Translating should not be taken literally. You have to read the entire book, know the character, understand what they want to portray to reach out to its readers from different parts of the world."

I don't usually leave a review but I just can't help doing it for this novel.

To truly appreciate this novel you have to read it until the latest chapters

The novel might seem like a generic isekai, where the MC transmigrates into a story where he knows the plot and he can prepare for what will happen. But here in this the MC only knows a part of the story and pretty soon it diverges from what he knows.

The MC soon finds out that the story that he knows has a... more>> lot of holes and that things are not what they seem. Pretty soon things escalate.

He soon finds out that his transmigration may have a deeper meaning than what he knows. As well as to the truth about the original protagonists world transfer.

It may also seem like the author isn't developing the characters or just leaving them at the wayside but trust me as you read further in the characters become more developed.

I like how the author made all the cliche in various novels work together to make a wonderful story that just works. <<less

Truly a wonderful piece of novel. I'm not a fond of reading novel because I prefer manga. I hesitated first to read but when I read positive reviews and people are recommending it crazy. I will give it a try!

Some of the twists and reveals are gonna surprise you. You need to read into the first 30 chapters to before you really get invested in.

As the story progress, You will know the true nature of the MC. He's also not your typical hero which definitely gives a refreshing feel while... more>> seeing how he acts and thinks all the time!

Not a stereotypical novel with cliche love story. No harem, no shoujo no romance, no gayness, no yaoi no BL. Best novel ever! You won't regret it.

[MC wants to live a slacker life but ends up in getting dragged in a situation that requires hard work. It's not possible when he's been blessed with many ancient powers and gain a lot of strong comrades.]

Just brilliant. This story just checks all boxes in what makes a good story for me.

As all novels, the early chapters help establish the main character and his personality while slowly introducing other key characters to the story. At first, the MC (Cale) , doesn't seem to thrilled about transported to a fantasy world while he knows trouble awaits for him, however, Cale overcomes this thought with the thought of living an easy, carefree slacker lifestyle. To do this, Cale must alter the story 'slightly' to his favor which causes... more>> many events to change and eventually cause Cale to be dragged into the spotlight as he seems to be the at the center of the story - while he still denies and wishes not to be.

Character design: 5/5

Characters have unique personalities each with their own ambition, goal and motive. We get to know characters and can understand why they would act or react without feeling like it wasn't justified or unnatural, everything that characters do just seem to make sense based on their personalities. An example would be
Spoiler

Beacrox obsession with being clean, as he wears white gloves all the time, becomes naturally angry or irritated with any form of dirtiness.

Story development: 5/5

At first I thought the story just twisted and turned without much thought, however, the amount of foreshadowing and shocks are unbelievable. Many times I was left amazed by revelations I feel like I should've expected. Like a Eureka moment, everything just clicks once you know. For example,
Spoiler

Cale's first ancient power is gluttony, and he feels hungry after using other powers, this is because his power is hungry to consume the other powers.

World development: 5/5

At times, the story makes sure to remind you how it is meant to be set in a fantasy world. Many places have long history and ancient past that give snippets of information and clue's to what the area may contain. Relationships between kingdoms and factions are prevalent and politics will be involved between these factions, however, it is not forced or dull, but just the right amount to make sense and keep the story progressing. Beside the history and lore, even the people and cities are shown to be fantasy like, for example
Spoiler

When Cale's territory hosts a celebration, he mentions how random experts are found in daily activities making you remember how even a random uncle could be a master assassin

Writing quality: 5/5

The writing in this story is amazing. Scenes are excellently portrayed and information is given at just the right amount to let the reader think and understand what will happen without blatantly telling us. Many times has the writing just flew of the screen and made a crystal clear image of whats happening in a scene.

Basically, this novel is just great and should definitely be read by anyone who enjoys Isekai Fantasy books that has the right amount of intelligence, engagement and plot. Can't suggest anymore how amazing this story is, I feel like I can't even do it justice with a review with how many great aspects I've missed. However, take it with a pinch of salt, not everyone will like this story but I can tell you I do and I suggest you give it a try for at least the first 20 chapters. <<less

I mean, just look at the title page. The title "tr*sh of the count's family", the title page illustration, along with the fact that it is a Korean novel and has a high 4.4 star rating. Imagine what this book will be like from those clues... because it's exactly that. Read it if you want, you pretty much got the overall gist of things anyway.

This is, in my opinion, really good hands down. I have no idea how many times I have re-read this. Mixes of sarcastic humour gifts given by the MC Cale and the loyalty and friendships building between him and his people, this story is awesome. The MC may be overly powerful but that does not mean he has no weakness or character problem.

His character development as well as those who follow him, are really well written. As the challenges and troubles that they came to meet increase, they grow along... more>> and the relationships and trust between them got better.

There are criticisms of this novel and they are understandable. The story might be long-winded at some occasions where the specific timing in that arc had a plot that was somewhat the same as a previous arc, and it gets boring with all the political stuff happening between as well, but there are reasons behind those portions. I still do enjoy reading this novel. The author has done their best in creating this work and it was quite a smooth read. The novel does not cut corners and as you read along the way, it will eventually answer any questions or plot twists that happened in the earlier chapters.

Do give this novel a try :) I really recommend it! <<less

Writing is superb and plot is awesome! Cale, MC is clever guy whose body is quite weak but still managed to gather power to himself. Also because of his nature he gathered many different strong individuals around him and made them listen to him. (He himself calls it deals tough) He himself always says that his dream is to became rich slacker. But in one way or other he involved himself with big matters regarding future of his country and other countries. His adventure is rich. Author did an excellent... more>> job.

Spoiler

Cale will get himself dragon, army, whole bunch of strong people. Including crown prince, original protagonist of Birth of Hero Choi Han, strong mages, saint, holy maiden, elves, dark elves, warriors, royal beastkins (cat, tiger, wolf, whale, dragon... etc) he got many countries leaders’ approval and power. He himself has six ancient powers. He has strong enemy. He had it all. Be it wealth, power, royal brother and servants. But not lover of course.

This is one of the best novels I've read/currently reading. The novel is well-written, I like the foreshadowing and subtle hints that makes you ponder in every word because you might miss something. This is one of those novels that you must avoid skimming.

I like Cale's smarty ass, and how people naturally gather around him (even if he doesn't want to get involved). He's also a natural at babysitting. He really has a soft spot on children (though he acts rough and don't like being touchy feely). The characters here... more>> are a bit crazy (I guess no one really is normal), the reason it's fun to read. I also love the way he scams and robs the enemy, stealing money from bad guys. I guess it's really satisfying ?

Note: My greatest joy in this novel is the great and mighty but still a baby Raon! He's such an adorable dragon. <<less

I love how the characters are written. It’s a heart warming story full of trust for each other without it being cringey. They worry over each other in the cutest way possible. It’s full of action, dangerous schemes, and cunning scams as well. It keeps you on your toes wondering what will happen next. It’s also easy to understand for anyone who just wants to enjoy a good story without having to think too much. 1000/10 would recommend to anyone who enjoys action novels without romance. I’ve never read anything... more>> like this novel. I hope anyone who reads this will enjoy it as much as I did. :)) <<less

Okay, so I've read this series twice now (1-300ish a year ago and then came back recently and reread 1-454) so I have a lot of opinions about it that I want to express. First of all, the first ~300 chapters or so is absolutely amazing. The author does a great job writing and foreshadowing everything to come, bringing literally everything together for amazing events. I honestly cannot recommend it enough. However, at around the ~300-400ish chapter point, the writing starts to get lost and convoluted. Basically, while the author... more>> originally set up important elements of the plot earlier, it seems that after a certain point he just gave up and starting pulling important plot points out of nowhere. Spoilers below for more details.

Spoiler

Here's an example of the author's great writing at the beginning: he foreshadows Cale's meet with the whales by having Cale think/talk about them and how he doesn't want to meet them. Then, when we see Cale meet the whale tribe, it's no longer a surprise and it feels like a natural progression of the story. This is an example of good writing: set-up, reminder, and payoff.

However, it seems the author forgets to do that after a couple hundred chapters because he literally pulls plot points out of his ass that were never established earlier. For example, I assumed (and likely every reader assumed) that Cale came from a normal Earth, but more than a HUNDRED chapters in, the author drops the bombshell that Cale actually came from a game Earth where monsters appeared and people have special abilities. Like WTF? It was literally so out of nowhere I was shocked...I have reread this and NOWHERE in the first hundred or so chapters is this foreshadowed or even hinted at, until we're over a hundred chapters well into the book.

Although it was weird, it isn't really enough to knock off a star. However, the author goes on with his ass-pulling by saying that Cale actually KEPT his powers from his former life on monster Earth where he has SUPER MEMORY! Like WTF! This felt absolutely out of nowhere especially almost 400 chapters in when Cale gets a random power he didn't already know about for some reason. WHY!? Cale also literally uses this power once, so it was so unnecessary and dumb.

Choosing to make the Earth Cale comes from a monster apocalyptic Earth is also incredibly confusing because it turns out Choi Han also comes from the same Earth despite being a character in a novel from that same Earth?? Apparently Choi Han is an uncle of Cale's friend, which is really weird when Choi Han is the protagonist of a novel on Earth. Was he simultaneously a real person and also the subject of a popular fantasy novel? This never gets answered and it's honestly really dumb, so I hope this gets answered later because otherwise it would be a really useless plot point.

[collapse]

Beyond the author's declining failure at naturally establishing plot points, he also introduces such a wide cast of characters that it feels like some important characters haven't appeared in a long time. I was literally reading at around chapter 400 and I thought to myself, "What ever happened to Toonka? He hasn't shown up in a long time" and I then realized it's been 100 chapters since he last appeared with virtually no closure on how he is doing or why Cale has ignored him for so long. It's just so weird because the first ~200ish chapters is dedicated to Cale gathering allies, and he doesn't use them consistently in his fights against Arm/White Star. It always feels like he's choosing some of his allies to fight while ignoring others, when he could literally be using all of them to pound his enemies to the ground. Like for f*cks sake he has
Spoiler

THREE DRAGONS

[collapse]
on his side, just f*cking destroy his enemies already please. Even if we account for the fact that White Star is a capable enemy to stand up to that, why doesn't Cale utterly smash the White Star's subordinates with the POWER OF DRAGONS!?!? It feels like they stand at the sidelines instead of taking the frontline role they should be doing at this point, which is really weird.

Anyway, I just wanted to write my thoughts and this review is honestly a bit more critical than I really feel. It's still an amazing series and the rapid updating is honestly astonishing. Beyond those few nitpicks, it really is one of the best series I've read, so please don't let this review turn you away. Really, what this criticism boils down to is "the writing starts to get a bit lazy 300 chapters in, " which is not enough by itself to make this novel not worth reading. Compared to other power fantasy reincarnation isekai novels of the genre, this one is a gem. <<less

This is a wish fulfillment story with an MC who has one simple wish and that is to be able to enjoy an early retirement and do nothing. Unfortunately for him the world the MC has transmigrated to is in turmoil and in order for his wish to become reality he has to fix the world's big problems, reluctantly. As is normal with these kinds of stories there are a lot of plotholes and illogical situations that don't make sense given the background of the MC. For instance why do... more>> all his plans work out as expected and why are there barely any obstacles in accomplishing his plans? Given the story you would expect a bit more problems but not even Raon is needed to come to the rescue because the MC never gets in a situation where his plans don't work out as he expected. Or why can the MC act like a noble so easily without remembering the previous inhabitant of his body and any training that person might have had? It's not like the MC was an actor or something similar in his previous life but he does not have any problems with his acting. Why is he still 'scared' of the people who work for him and adore him even after 2 years living in that world? I know it's used for comedic effect but most of these jokes are not that funny because it is difficult to imagine the MC having those thoughts in that situation.

And it's not that I can't think of explanations for some of those questions it is that the writer leaves these questions open that makes it annoying. Not annoying enough to stop reading because these kinds of annoyances are about small details and not about the main storyline. The story itself is pretty entertaining and as long as you keep in mind that this is a wish fulfillment story that is written almost in a 'slice of life' genre kind of way and takes place in an chaotic world than it a pretty entertaining story. <<less

It was nice at the beginning but super close male relationships are a bit confusing...

I'm afraid that at some point of time Cale will marry prince...

Also novel already lost some darkish vibe and char development it had at the beginning. Side chars look more like tools which are used sometimes. And it feels like author is trying to add more 'elements' to just prolong story.

Anyway, story is still nice, it's still have some pace and logic. So you will not regret reading it

I won't repeat what all the other reviews have said so far, but I'll just agree that this is a pretty good novel with a couple draw backs.

The first one is that the premise of him being in a novel he's read before and knowing what's going to happen and secrets of characters from the novel seems to completely disappear, as he catches up to what he's read at around chapter 130ish. I don't know if he somehow gets more information later on, but it completely leaps out of the... more>> novel transmigration genre into a regular fantasy novel.

The second drawback, and the reason for it getting 4 stars instead of 5 so far, is that what other reviewers are saying about the lack of character descriptions and stories are true. After a character is introduced more or less, nothing else really happens concerning them. It's as if they're either always just standing next to the MC waiting to be used, or not brought along at all. Besides the black dragon who's always around the MC, the others are still pretty much blank slates. The two kitten beast children for example never really DO anything unless he needs their unique skills. You never get to see into their thought process, or even up to this point learn more about their story. He just adds members to his party left and right almost always instantly after meeting and somehow becoming their savior. It's not really interesting though, as most of them don't really have a personality or a strong back story.

Besides that, though, so far I like the novel. It does remind me a lot of the Novel's Extra, as it's about an MC who doesn't really want to be kind, doesn't really want to be in the spot light, but ends up saving everyone over and over again. The kind of MC that doesn't LIKE being told he's a good person, yet everyone says it all the same. <<less
