All Chu Lian had done was to read a book where the female lead had cheated on her wonderful husband. While wondering why, before she knew it, she was waking up in the body of that very same female lead!

Wait, did that mean the handsome husband from the book was hers now? Chu Lian decided to welcome him with open arms!

However, what she got wasn’t the kind husband she had been expecting. Instead, his personality seemed to have been completely flipped! He left her all alone on their wedding night… and just five days into their marriage, her dear husband abandoned his loving wife and left to enlist in the army!

Fine! Be that way! She could pass her days perfectly well somehow, even if she had to do it alone!

Chu Lian put her household in order, charmed the rest of her new family, and did a little business on the side. She even opened up some new trade routes! Her days passed peacefully and leisurely… Until her dear husband got into trouble at the frontline of the war.

Hmph, isn’t he crawling back to me for help in the end? Forget it, I’ll go save him myself!

Not a bad story but not great either. The pacing is really slow in my opinion. I've tried to read a head in the raws and not much is happening.

I do like how her power is food but I hate how she allows some stupid misunderstandings to happen. She has no problem proving herself but she just can't tell the other guy to stop... she seriously just stands there and says nothing.

I really stay around to see how she impresses with food. As the restaurant and romance isn't anywhere to... more>> be seen yet.

Overall not a waste of time but not worth all the 5 stars. <<less

One of the main reasons why I enjoy the novel is because the characters Chu Lian (MC) and Changdi (ML) have strong personalities. The MC shows how independent she can be, her world doesn't fall apart just because she doesn't have a man by her side. While for the ML, it's understandable why he acts the way he does due to misunderstandings. This leads to a slow paced romance, but for this novel it fits in perfectly with the plot. I can't wait to see when the ML finally becomes... more>> sweeter to the MC.

As someone who absolutely loves to eat, the numerous amounts of food MC makes causes me to crave frequently. I feel eager to read more about what types of food she would prepare, the way the food gets describe I can imagine myself as one of the side characters drooling by her side.

Spoiler

Her friendship with Princess Duanjia is very adorable. In the world, there aren't many that the MC can truly call a friend, so having such a person by her side is a wonderful thing.

It's a bit slow compared to other novels, but I think the story is good so far. I love how the MC conquers everyone and everything with her food. At first, when the plot had stuff about food, I thought it was weird and out of place. But now I LOVE the chapters where they mention her cooking because it's interesting to see how everyone falls in love with it and how she can make the circumstances change. I also think that the food has a comedic aspect to it... more>> since everyone who eats it instantly becomes a foodie. I also enjoy reading the comments at the end of the chapter by other readers, asking for more food chapters. <<less

This novel is good! The main protagonist is carefree and just want a peaceful life while eating delicious food. She doesn't have the attitude that most main protagonist in a Chinese novel has, which is thinking all about revenge.

Spoiler

And its quite hilarious to see Chu Lian's servants reaction every time Chu Lian cooks.

I would prefer to give this novel a 4.5/5 if such were possible. The concept is unique, the characters are enjoyable, and the pacing is steady. My only problem thus far is the distinct lack of romance after 90 chapters, but the comedic misunderstandings between the MC and male lead make for an enjoyable read none the less. I'm looking forward to reading what happens next.

I intend to update this review in another 90 chapters or so.

I give this novel 5 stars because I had fun reading it... The interaction between the Female lead and Male lead is really funny at first then very sweet later on... At first you will be disappointed with the Male lead cuz he was angry with the Female lead because of what happened in his past life... But after He realized that The Female lead is different from his 1st life and how she is very good to him... He will treat her like a Queen... I love how the... more>> Male lead gets very possessive of her that he even gets jealous with her female friends.. lol I recomend this novel. :) <<less

You can follow the logic of characters but it doesn't reduce the frustration you would probably feel towards the ML, because the author did such a good job to help you emphasize with MC

Initially, the characters are so frustrating since they keep having misunderstandings towards the other (mainly the male) however, that's all going to be gone later in the novel (I just know, it's that feeling).

Anyway, the main part is... there's just a good amount of food talk in there *drooling* seriously, it's so good :D

Spoiler

It's actually really funny when the husband actually tries some of the wanton breakfast meal she makes (or directed her maids to make since they won't let her make it herself) and ends up eating more than half of her breakfast. It's funny because she made that for herself and not for him to eat lol

I just feel that this is going to be a really cute story later on :D <<less

At chapter 40:

not enough chapters to determine whether this is one hell of a good novel or just so-so. But kudos for the unique plot. Just a little bit miffed that the MC is too soft. The ML is also hateful but I guess I can understand why that is. In the future, I want to see him grovel. A lot. Also, amazing translation team!! Thanks for giving us a new novel to read.

At ch190, the story is a bit bland. It feels like everyobe is after the MC.... more>> And though she fights back, the anger that you felt because of the villains will be amplified because of the MC. She sucks at fighting back. Plus after having spent some time in this world/time, she doesn't understand the value of her recipes. Seriously, its frustrating to see her being taken advantage of. <<less

It's very brand new. I've never read a novel that had the same concept as this, so when I saw the title, my interest was greatly piqued. The female lead is a foodie. She doesn't care about the ML, but she also doesn't hate him. The interactions between the MC and the ML can be hilarious sometimes. Though I'm waiting for the ML to open up to the MC, but that's probably going to take a while because of the things in the past. If you're interested in foodies, misunderstandings,... more>> and a bit of drama, then this novel would be quite enjoyable for you. <<less

Loved it!

My only complain is the ending was rushed. Some of the character we were curios about we don't know how did they end up. For example XY character, did marry YX prince and lived happily or not? Did XY Princess marry YX person or not? What happened to them.

Altough the male lead and female lead ended up happily ever after, but the world of the novel is... Well you can see why some author is called "author mom". They protect their main character that much, nothing can defeat them,... more>> and the author made some really stupid villains to make the main characters and other good characters look smart.

Overall, I liked the novel, ending was a bit disappointing, because lot of people were curious about some side characters, but it was good. I loved the male lead, he was a bit trsundere but he was really sweet later on, and always pampered his cute wife.

Dog food, I ate lot of dog food later on.

The romance was slow, but the food porn before the romance made us happy. <<less

The plot is good and the characters are funny. We have a headstrong FL and cold tsundere ML. The flow of the story, the way the things built up is just right until when I read the last chapter that is. The ending was too abrupt and I feel like all of the things I've been waiting for has been flushed out of the drain. All those anticipations and built up excitement wasted for a half-hearted ending : (.

But overall, the story is actually really good. It can get boring... more>> at times (but it all depends in your mood tbh). I Was supposed to rate it 4.5 but considering I liked it this much, I changed it to 5 XD. <<less

still only @ chapter 228 but im already dying of frustration...

She’s supposed to be smart for god’s sake so why can’t she realise when are the times she should speak out instead of just hating inside her head god**n.

Spoiler

Pardon my words but she should realise that when dealing with a man blinded by romance like Bojian, it is better to be straightforward and be more outspoken. Ever since her poor attempt of confronting Bojian back in her home estate, I have just been skimming the scenes whenever theres a confrontation between them.

[collapse]

and theres also that thing with whos-our-male-lead-again?

Spoiler

I understand where he’s coming from and that he’s blinded with rage and he’s having a hard time to truly accept that Chu Lian is different from before. His reaction is realistic, I have nothing against it. BUT our dear protagonist...... haah.... Honestly, I’ve skimmed over some parts of the novel that seemed too cliche and mundane so I’m not entirely sure if she’s realized that the male lead is not the single f***ing bit similar to the novel and if she’s already processed that fact but— Again, she should realised that she cant just keep putting aside the fact that her and the male leadms relationship is not doing good. I MEAN THE CHAPTERS WITH THE MALE LEAD JUST SEEM LIKE EXTRAS TO ME. And it just doesnt seem like she has any plans to mend their relationship at all. Like yes I understand, being strangled right on your wedding night isnt nice and isnt too easy to forgive but— if she truly processed that the life she has now is truly her reality, she should realise that nothing good if she just leave he male lead alone in drowning in his speculations. SHE SHOULD REALLY BE TRYING TO MEND HER RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. God I’m so frustrated... I mean she’s barely even thinking about the male lead now.. like she’s already forgotten him and like she’s only been adopted by the male lead’s family.

[collapse]

Wheres the romance, right now I only see cliche face slapping and cooking stuff and some cringey, frustrating scenes.

Right now I’m only continually reading to see just when the fck will our main lead go back home and when the fck will our protagonist finally slap the reality of things to Bojian cos she just keeps the the fcking things on. <<less

It's quite a cute story to read, but nerve wracking tbh! There is quite a lot useless drama between the main leads and the romantic development is (in my opinion) too fast and sudden. Like somehow there is NO basic understanding between the couple at all and just a tiny bit trust, almost none at all.

The ending is also rushed but cute nonetheless, an ending without any depth. It could've been much more, considering where the plot went but it just felt like the author didn't want to milk it... more>> more and just ended it.

Why I'm rating it so highly?

First of all, the food porn is just perfect and the translator makes it even better, like I mainly know most of the chinese dishes but get hungry reading about them and I love the food pictures!

Also a (in my opinion) superb translation job and I've been following the novel since the beginning and it was quite the ride, and I mainly enjoyed the plot line involving the female lead (and her development) and not necessarily the male lead, he was just.... yuck, okay he was betrayed in the past but like.... he wasn't that nice <<less

This had an entertaining start. Later on, when Tsundi started to accept his love for Chulian, it went downhill with the dubcon (to my tastes). The ending was rushed and there was a lot of cannon fodders with the same character template.

I love the food scenes

and wished that the latter half of the novel continued down that path instead of coming back to Xiao Bojian's revenge for his father

. Chulian is a great character and so are her female entourage (Xiyan, Sima Hui, Princess Duanjia, etc).

Well, this is a really good novel but here are some things I didn't like:

Spoiler

MC changed so much in the novel, at first she had a consistent personality, then she became a Mary Sue, then she became a white rabbit "abused" by her husband until the end which was a really bad choice the author made in my opinion. The worst of everything was that the ending was so rushed that most canon fodder had a better conclusion than the actual villain. It doesn't even have an epilogue so it's a really anticlimactic ending to such a wonderful novel.

The start is good but I really don't like the Male lead attitude so I'm dropping. It was understable that male lead is a bit mean on the start of the story cause he has a reason. Besides the female lead find ways to counter it which was fun. Sadly as they finally clsoe together. Male lead started to turn into a pervert who have no consideration to the female lead.

Saitama reviews have better explanation for this problem...

I'll dropping this sadly

Usually, I'd read a couple comments and look over the ratio of good to bad reviews on a novel to determine whether or not I'd be interested in reading. This time, I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before jumping into the story.

Despite agreeing with some of the lower rating reviews, I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading TMR. Sure, it had its flaws - but which novel ever doesnt?

Some characters could have been handeled better so that they don't seem entirely one-dimensional. And this mostly applies to the villains, since I've noticed... more>> that they generally share very common traits, resulting in them turning out rather boring at times. But aside from that, I don't really have much complaints.

Some reviews stated that the FL was very Mary Sue, and after thinking about it, they're not wrong. But my defense is that it really couldn't be avoided. I mean, if you were armed with all this future knowledge (not just on the storyline) in a place where what once was considered normal has become ingenious in other people's eyes, it'd be hard to NOT be a Mary/Gary Sue. Now, if the FL didn't transmigrate or reborn, had no flaws, acquired skills in an unreasonable way (like suddenly becoming the greatest doctor alive after a small interest in medicine in a short time period), or the usual clichéd things, then that's a character to be concerned about. But with Chu Lian, although she seems Mary Sue, I believe it's rather justifiable.

There were some problems mentioned by some reviewers with the intimacy between the main characters as well. I agree it was a slow start, and I agree the romance can cause toothaches with how sweet they can be. But I disagree that there were no character development, and about the amount of s*xual activities. The s*xual activities and such, there were some use of the usual clichés, but I thought it was executed nicely - and it suits my tastes. But I'm a rather dirty minded person anyways. Each to his own.

Anyways, what I'm trying to get at here is that TMR is a great read. Although it uses the usual "useless to outstanding" FL cliché, it's done in a way that you don't feel uncomfortable with the FL because she's justifiable as a character and in the setting of the story. Not only the FL, the ML is rather likeable as well - at least to me. I enjoy their journey in the romance department, and the unexpected twist that I found unique to this story (or at least I've never seen it used in other novels yet).

I understand everyone has their own preferences, but I'd highly recommend this novel. <<less

I had to stop reading to write here

Absolutely do not attempt to read this novel if you are hungry, so far I have not seen much romance, the comedy is nice, but the food... The MC loves food and goes on and on in describing what she is making and the lovely translator even adds pictures of said food so I was killed over and over since I am on a diet...

Everyone is a foodie in that universe.

The novel name throw me off a bit, I thought it was... more>> purely comedy but it’s not, a bit political but not too complicated or serious.

I adore the ML but I also want to slap him once or twice for various reasons...

The novel is most likely going to be among my top transmigration novels. <<less
