This novel has an interesting premise, but never really takes off. CL (the main character) is a very lazy protagonist, so a lot of the mysteries in the original novel are only revealed through forced villain monologues. There's almost no description of the political landscape and extremely little about what HCD (the male lead) does to build up his political and military power. The inner courtyard scheming is especially stupid in this novel since the villains are mostly morons who can't set up an effective plot, and due to the... more>> lack of focus on the imperial politics, there isn't a lot that's interesting about the grand scheme of things, either.

HCD and CL's romance is painful to read about. 1/4 of the later chapters describe food or this couple's sexual misadventures. CL seems to equate s*x with suffering, and HCD never takes no for an answer. Then the author likes to spend lots of words on describing how terrible their s*x is. And apparently, HCD is the sort who feels comfortable

spanking his pregnant wife, in an actual corporal punishment way

, WTF.

I started reading the translated novel a while ago but decided to finish it in Chinese because I'd lost interest in it and mostly wanted to skip to the ending. I would say that the novel retained my interest until the couple returned from the north, and then it got boring. If you want to read about a lazy wife... Eight Treasures Trousseau had a more likable couple and more interesting scheming. <<less

Finished reading the novel in chinese.

My personal score: 70/100 (Better than quite a number of novels out there, but there are a few others of this genre that stood out better than this)

  • (- point) Using food as a bargaining chip is fairly common in stories involving brought-over knowledge.
  • (++ point) Starting to middle of the story was fresh and interesting.
  • (+ point) Sub-plots are decent, consistent and fairly straightforward.
  • (+ point) Story was engaging to read, until about 3/4 of it.
  • (- point) Introduced a main plot component at 3/4 of the story that brought the score down. I personally think author ran out of ideas, which was why the story ended soon after that.

At last!! I caught up!ヽ (≧▽≦) ノ

The story revolves around a transmigrated woman who's a legit foodie and her 'lunatic' husband. Hahaha! (՞ਊ՞) Well, you can't really blame the MC for jokingly saying that to her husband. Who told him to act so differently from the novel?! The MC just wanted to have a peaceful and satisfying life with the ML, yet he's too cold for words! He'll literally be classified as an iceberg at this rate!

Turning to the ML's perspective, the reason why he's changed into an iceberg... more>> is because he's dead set on taking revenge against his 'wife'!! Turns out, he's been reincarnated!

Both don't know that their other half has been reincarnated / transmigrated, so they acted the way they did.

Romance is quite slow in this novel so if you want something to happen you'll have to wait for a bit.

Mutual feelings starts at around chapter 283, and fyi it's very satisfying. (〃 ̄ω ̄〃) ゞ

But I promise that watching their relationship turn from distant enemies into sweet mandarin ducks will be worth the wait. <<less

This is totally good!

But beware! Do not read this when you are hungry! Hooman, you've been warned.

Chu Lian, the female protagonist of this story came from the modern world and transmigrated to the novel which she read before. He Changdi is her husband who is acting opposite of who he is described in the book. The reason? He reincarnated and very mad at her as she betrayed him in his past life. It is a cute story where Chu Lian, relied on herself, using her knowledge from the modern world... more>> (mostly on food-related stuff) to get by so she can live in peace and He Changdi is acting all tsundere on her.

I can't stand this one. The ML is mean to the MC, and not even a cute mean. Just plain a***ole! MC is strong, but I really can't stand the ml. STOP STEALING HER FOOD. the author did a poor job at drawing people into liking the ml, I mean.... ML is just an a***ole at this point (I'm on chap 50). There's NOTHING likable about him. He misunderstands her constantly and it's a repeat of the same chapter with different sh*ts to misunderstand. I see he has a... more>> reason for hating her, but please give us something to like about him!? No? I'm dropping this one. 5 star for the MC, NEGATIVE 5 for ml, 1 for story. And why must we need to know every single member of the family so fast!?! 30+ random names thrown at us (can't forget, it comes with their back story too. Like I don't need to know the back story of maid A!). We don't care!

I mean, l would like to invite 'Zhen zhen' from "empress with no virtue " to slap the ML (along with the author) like how she slapped that maid who gave her husband 'gu.' Thats how unattractive the ML is, that I even wish a MC from another novel to unleash her slaps to this ml. Lawd. The author describe the ML as supper hot, but with his attitude, all I can imagine in my head is a ugly dude. <<less

I have mixed feelings about it. I started reading due to business mentioned by translator yet so far business is just mentioned. On the other hand MC won my sympathy instantly by declaring I am not gonna be brain dead protagonist. Romance is very far away though male leads don t think so omg. Too much cooking and little action, but damn if this is not fun to read somehow. Though I feel a bit cheated I will continue to read it.

Update as of Chapter 278: Cold... Love it.

Update as of Chapter 271: Finally, the story is starting to get exciting. The MC seems to be in a hopeless situation with things slowly starting to unravel despite her knowing it was going to happen, so what's next? How is the author going to pull the MC out of this predicament? I need to know T_T

Update as of Chapter 191: So far, so good. The update schedule is fairly reliable, the grammar is quite good, and the story is loveable. I like... more>> reading things about food, and this brings about a nice bit of casual cookery.

I feel too biased to give this a proper review.

I have one gripe for this story aside from a few grammar slips, the released "Chapters" are too short. It makes me want to cry when I reach the end of the available reading material. The story is funny and fairly light-hearted. The reading is smooth. The grammar is passable. <<less

When I first read this novel, I was hooked instantly. Everyday, I would wait for the translator to update and I would never miss an update.

I love it at the same I don't.

The plotline of the novel is very used already (female transmigrating into another world) but I liked the twist of the ML being a Reincarnator. Although the romance starts of slow, I was okay with it. I liked the food p*** and the comedy. And did I mention the food?

The beginning of the novel was pretty good its... more>> just that I don't what the fudge happened near the ending of the novel. It's like the author was building and hyping something up, keeping the readers on their toes, eyes ready to check and see what will happen and then poof! Nothing really happened.

It felt rushed. RUSHED! That when I read the few last chapters I was so lost for words and when I finished it, I was thinking to myself, "That's it? THATS IT?!" ノಠ益ಠノ彡┻━┻

Its like the author was like; "Im so motivated, lets keep up the good work!" to "I'm tired. I don't wanna do this anymore."

To be honest, I felt dissapointed. This novel made my emotions fly so high only to let it free fall without a parachute. So much for letting my hopes up. This is one of the few novels I really liked and its also one of the novels that I wont ever reread again.

Kudos to the translator though. You did a good job! <<less

The translation was great, this had so much potential but sadly the story was kind of...I quite like the FL, she’s generally a likeable character and I really enjoyed reading about how she made a business for herself. I was really hyped for the romance to kick in but tbh once it did it went downhill. The ML went from (understandably) cold and distrusting to scary mood swings, tantrums and almost rapey at times! Like what??! Couldn’t understand why the FL didn’t get more angry when he was groping her... more>> sleeping body, like SHE NEARLY DIED A FEW MINUTES AGO AND JUST WOKE UP TO THE ML KISSING AND GROPING HER ti**, THATS HELLA TRAUMATISING!! <<less

It started out well enough and the middle was fine too although I also dislike the handling of Madam Zou's character and the MC's interaction with her. The stuff that went wrong could have been avoided if the MC wasn't so apathetic about it. Everyone is responsible for themselves but the MC has made some morally questionable choices. Having a flawed character if fine but it also conflicts with how the character is portrayed at other times.

There were some shades of "you can't change destiny" in that there seems to... more>> be some invisible force trying to drive things back toward the plot of the original novel despite the MC's effort which could have been interesting but that seems to have been dropped.

Unfortunately the story takes a nose dive with the arc starting at chapter 625. It takes a couple of chapters to do the dive but it devolves into everyone's favorit C-Novel cliche of drama via misunderstanding. It would have been fine if this was placed earlier in the plot, prior to the couple resolving their position regarding each other. This is basically 25+ chapters of useless filler. Plus because I have paused here until if finished before continuing so I don't know where it will end. This arc alone is enough for me to recommend against reading this if you are reading these reviews to try to decide if you should start. <<less

Well, I liked it a lot at first, but ever since the main couple has gotten together, this novel just frustrates me. The author seriously has no concept of how relationships work, and all these descriptions of supposedly happy marital s*x that are actually kind of rapey leave a sour taste in my mouth. It has also been really dragging out over the final 50 chapters, introducing unneeded misunderstandings and not really any sort of plot climax.

The best of best!

I really like the flow of the stories. The pace is nor too slow nor too fast. Although I don't know how Chu lian can remember so much recipes in her head, but really I do like how people around Chu lian act like a foodies who think nothing than to eat a good food!

This story is hilarious and always makes me hungry. The faceslappings are satisfying too.

I like how ML is soo tsunderee and love his wife and her food.

And the translation is really the best!

I actually want to give 1/5, but when I notice that the author write 330 CHAPTERS, I give the author another star for her hardwork.

i really have high expectation when I see this novel ranking (#7 in weekly rank).

the male character is so focused on finding the loophole of his wife' behavior (since the male character is reincarnated), while the wife (AKA main female lead) is busy with cooking....

when I see the synopsis, I thought that the male character will definitely go to army within few first chapters, and until... more>> 82 the main male character was still on the journey to the army....

i thought that it's better to put the genre into COOKING, BAKING, and all those stuff. not really have some spices of romance, both main character also doesnt look smart, the story flows veryyyyy slow..... <<less

Uh this.. Novel is interesting in its own way but all I can say is that not every problem can be solve with food. Author is putting too much luck on using food to solve problem. Like seriously, author, not everyone is a foodie. A lot of nonsensical part every now and then and I find MC is too lucky and she does not have any downs in life. Too much bs.

Take your standard transmigration to the useless xth miss novel and just toss all the usual issues like political scheming and assassins in favor of comic misunderstandings and cooking. I'll be honest when I say I was expecting something else when I saw the title, but I'm enjoying this.

The male lead is natural very confident in his opinion that his wife is an evil woman who is planning to betray him, since he's reincarnated and she betrayed him the previous time.

The female lead meanwhile decides to ignore the plot and... more>> be a happy noble lady. Since she doesn't know the plot like the Male lead and is confused by his behavior. <<less

I've been browsing reincarnation/transmigration novels and so far TMR became one of the most interesting ones.

Basically, the one who Reincarnated was the ML and the MC transmigrated into the MC of a novel she read in the modern world. When they meet, ML just has a big misunderstanding so he is a wee bit rough.

The progress of their love story is reaaaaaly slow.

... more>> Anyways, I love the food p*** added to it. Somehow, it makes very big sense to me.

Imagine how horrible it would be if you suddenly enter an era with only cooking, frying, and steaming the only way of cooking food! <<less

The premise: The protagonist is a modern food-lover who awakens in the body of the female lead of the book she was reading. Furthermore, she does so just before the first night with her new husband... who turns out to be compltely different from the nice gentleman she remembers from the book. This is because she didn't finish the book, so she was unaware of the fact that the male lead actually reincarnated, remembering all the crap the original female lead put him through in his first life. Because of... more>> this, he is trying to passive-aggressively get rid of the MC, who in turn just wants to have a simple, carefree life and completely ignores him.

Characters: First have our female MC. She is calm, straightforward, and while she is just a foodie, because this is a fairly straightforward ancient environment, her modern culinary knowledge makes her an incredible cook that shocks everyone. The male lead, on the other hand, is a jaded reincarnator who tries to get rid of her any way he can, which often backfires on him in a hilarious manner. There are also a lot of side-characters, but they are not particularly fleshed out. They generally only exist either to serve as speedbump, to applaud the MC for her culinary skills, or a mixture of the two.

Plot: There isn't much. While there is the underlying push and pull dynamic between the two leads, there is not much of a plot to talk about aside of the heroine trying to avoid the more annoying plot-points from the original book or trying to curry favors from others with her cooking. Speaking of which, don't read this while hungry, as a good third of the chapters are all about people cooking or eating various dishes.

Writing: Generally okay. Aside of the culinary side getting a little tedious at times, the author had a good sense of humor and setting up the characters. Most of the comedy comes from either the male lead's petty, stubborn jabs at the MC (and the ways they often backfire) or the servants and other side-characters misunderstanding the nonchalance of the MC as her coping mechanism and trying their best to cater to her. There is little romance so far, and to be frank, unless the male lead would go through a lot of character-development (and specifically apologizes for almost strangling the MC on their wedding night), I'm afraid things could end up really, really creepy and disturbing.

Translation: Very good, with timebun on Volare actually adding a ton of extra notes and pictures to illustrate the foodstuff and other elements. Kudos for that. However, what infuriates me in turn is that they had the unholy idea to divide up the chapters. The chapters themselves are fairly short to begin with, so more often than not you can end up with 700 words long "chapters", making reading this WN daily completely pointless, like trying to read a webcomic with only one panel released per day.

Summary: This is a decent slice-of-life comedy/food-p*** work. However, I recommend reading it in at leas 60 "chapter" chunks, otherwise it is very unsatisfying. <<less

Love this story so far, really looking forward to each new chapter.

The female lead isn't cultivating some incredible martial art, she isn't the world's most insanely talented doctor, but she does have cooking skills that are slightly over powered. For the most part she is a very believable and flawed individual that doesn't come across as unbelievable.

The male lead is a great counter balance. Again, not over powered, not unrealistically emotionless or cold, completely believable.

The story is at times, funny, catchy and witty. A great read.

Honestly, after this, I will probably dislike every other similar book.

The male lead is very tsundere, and honestly shows realistic behaviour if such thing DID happen to you. He has very high IQ with very low EQ. So beware, he is sometimes forceful.

The female lead, I have to say, a bit Mary Sue, I mean come on, does this woman managed to be pro in every economical aspect in modern world? Other than that, she was fine, she didnt provoke pity for me, however I did found some of her... more>> behaviours believable, her EQ is quite low too however, not as much as ML (no one can beat him in that aspect lol)

If you like seeing bunch of food, a bit violent ML, extremely a lot usage of "almost eyes" and "noises made with lips during sleep, or eating", I hated that last lip part honestly.

For pros, the translator is already a group I read, they are very good, the story itself is fast-paced enough, but not too much. Ending is but abrupt, otherwise, if you like Passive Aggressive ML and Transmigration stories, you would probably like this. <<less

Simply put, every single character (including ML and MC) are either re****ed, cliche or delusional. Throughout the book, there was not one character that I actually liked. Plot is non existant. Romance is fcking painful to read and their relationship is completly one sided.

ML just treats MC as his tool to vent and Although MC gets mad, she doesnt do anything. Everytime the ML is completly in the wrong cuz of his communication issues and MC ends up apologizing. ML's way of apologizing is to just **** her without her... more>> consent. In only one of their sexual interactions did MC actually want to have s*x and every other time it was ML forcing himself onto her despite her complaints. MC says doesnt want trouble but she's actually just a doormat saint template.

ML and main antagonist are both Yanderes. As much author wants to call ML a Tsundere, he's simply not. He physically hurt MC so many times and rapes her daily after ch 500.

The amount of cliche tropes in this is simply befuddling. Every single ancient china drama cliche you can think of, it's in here. If you're just reading this cuz you liked the premise and the first 100 chapters, I suggest you drop this when ML finally decides to love MC. After that point, this novel progressively drops from a 3.5* to 0*.

There s just so many reasons to hate this novel but what really killed it for me was the relationship between ML and MC.

I d rate this (Made me wanna commit suicide) /5 <<less
