Behind the successful man, there was often such an ex-girlfriend. She was beautiful and nice, but favored the rich and disdained the poor. She abandoned him in the most difficult period of the man’s career, left him with a huge psychological shadow so that he no longer believed in love.

In the novel, such an ex-girlfriend usually may not get a good ending, used to set off as the true mistress of the cannon fodder. Unfortunately, Ren Qiao transmigrated into the book and become the ex-girlfriend who dumped the male lead, but the male lead still went against the counterattack…..

The synopsis is what drew me into reading this, and quite frankly it's COMPLETELY MISLEADING since the story itself is nothing like you're lead to believe. I thought it'd be something along the lines of... The ML is going to "counterattack" against the original plot since he fell for the MC his "cruel ex-girlfriend" that abandoned him at his lowest point, and that's because instead of the original character from the novel the MC's a transmigrator that will use her knowledge about the book to win against the original FL.... more>> INSTEAD, you get an overly-ambitious story that tries to do too much in only 111 chapters, which in turn causes a choppy & unfulfilling read. (With less than 5 chapters total spent on Romance, I genuinely had no clue about who the ML was up until the last few chapters, and boy was I depressed with who he ended up being.)
Spoiler

The original FL wasn't even a factor in the story after the first 50-60 chapters, she was sent abroad & briefly made a reappearance later on. Also, the ML himself was barely mentioned throughout this novel, hence the reason why it wasn't clear until the last few chapters who it was. He's literally missing for 20+ chapters at a time, and the MC spends almost all of the novel disliking/barely interacting with him. Not that any of the other "possible ML's" stood out much either, because a common theme in this novel was to introduce characters only to completely forget about them until they were needed again, I.E. disappearing for 10+ chapters.

[collapse]

I don't use the term "Overly-Ambitious" loosely, this novel truly tried to do too much to the point that it backfired because you didn't get to enjoy any one trope before the author moved on/added in something entirely different. A few examples of this includes:
Cultivation, Entertainment Industry, Business Building, Talent Recruitment, Acting, Mental Illness, Underground Fighting, Fashion, Gaming, Amnesia, Kidnapping, Special OPS Team/Assassination Squad, Blackmailing, Hunger Games (survival situation similar to HG, appeared out of freaking nowhere), and SO. MUCH. MORE.... *Just for reference, there was no world-hopping this is all happening in one setting/time period.* (Please note that I'm not complaining about any specific topic out of the ones I listed above, it's more so about the chaotic combination of all of them, that lead to an abysmal reading experience.)

Spoiler

Honestly I had a huge problem with the fact that the ML is the ex-boyfriend, there's no doubt that this would've been my biggest issue with this novel, however, the romance had no development AT ALL and was basically just sprung on you in the last 3-4 chapters. Although the ex being the ML sounds obvious given the synopsis, since he rarely appeared in the story it wasn't 100%, and I had hoped that it'd be ANYONE other than him. This guy was obsessed with the FL on a very disturbing level, he had a creepy room in his house dedicated to the FL filled with things she used (keep in mind that they had been broken up for years when she found the room), seriously she broke a vase while in his house and he was gonna put the broken pieces in the room when the FL caught him. This guy even went as far as holding the FL captive once, and full-on kidnapping her another time! Not only that, but the ML ended up spending 4 years in jail at the very end of the novel, only to be released in the last chapter. He was manipulative and toxic, and I still don't understand how the FL ended up reciprocating his feelings after everything that happened!

Seriously do yourself a favor, and don't waste your time on this, 0/10 do not recommend! <<less

Honestly sounds like a good story line.

But...

I don't know if it's the translation or the story itself, but... It seems a bit confusing. The scenes jump around too much. In the first few chapters, she's in a Cafe with her sister but then one thought leads her to start a long montage about her previous life and etc. After about a chapter later, she still in the Cafe and honestly I feel like the sister should've gotten annoyed by how long it takes for this girl to think.

I don't even... more>> understand what's going on. So MC is a transmigrator but this is her reincarnation? She transmigrated the first time and died then reincarnated back to that life?? I dunno. <<less

So, for the first few chapters it was fine I liked that the ML was kind of mysterious (but I already figured out who the ML was at I think the 20 something chapter) and that it wasn't just full-on romance plus the MC wasn't op right off the bat. Hence, it was a good starting point.

Then as we progressed on there was minimal romance not that I'm complaining there are some great novels out there having less romance and more plot, it would've been fine if there weren't a... more>> gazillion things going on altogether as one of the reviewers mentioned there was truly too much happening. If I had to put it in a sentence it would be a 'QT novel happening in a single world with the ML having a screw loose'.

I say that the ML had a screw loose because he was obsessed, the MC was like oxygen to him, humans can't live without breathing oxygen continuously and the MC was someone who he had to have at all costs, he even committed crimes cause of it. I wouldn't go into details cause it would be considered a spoiler, but again the other reviewers have also mentioned this and I am in full agreement with them.

Overall it would've been a good novel if there wasn't too much going on and if the ML wasn't some psycho having an obsession. Mtling this novel burned up a good amount of my brain cells, I wouldn't say I regret reading this but I also wouldn't make the choice to read it again if I went back in time. <<less

So crappy. This happens to a lot of Chinese Web novel authors. They start a story with an idea. The first few chapters stick to the idea and are interesting, and then slowly the author loses touch with her story world and characters and now the idea takes a side seat while the author blindly follows the story’s pace. And then we end up with shitty stories like this.

I'm at long chapter 64. There is still no romance and the synopsis a bit misleading since it looks like ... more>>

she didn't just ML but the other way and MC has a big grudge against him and even hit him till he was bloody. But it doesn't mean he is out of the game. It's still unknown who is the ML. There are 4 including the novel ML have an unhealthy attraction to her. And there are another two who are attracted to her but no presence is strong enough to be identified as the ML. The only ones who could be ML is the first mentioned novel ML and a mysterious guy from a organisation but I think both could be the same person. At least MC has good friends and even female friends and there are not many annoying female antagonists. Even antagonists are not easily removed and they are no cardboard characters.

Annoying thing is the author using a whole long chapter to describe the released movies in the novel and other things. MC is strong on her own and has a strong little shota who is like a puppy.

Honestly think that people don't understand the story that well because of the translation OR just because it's written in a way that is kind of confusing. But if you can understand what is going on, which isn't fookin rocket science, the story is actually a decent read. I think that a clearer plot could have been made but it's a genuinely interesting plot. The MC is someone who knows how to deal with things, she understands the original plot and brings the original people into the plot to make... more>> herself succeed. The ML is most likely her ex (the person the FL is trying to set the MC up with) and the leader of the organization (they're both the same person I'm guessing). I'm only on chapter 16 but I'll MTL the rest and let yall know how the ending goes. But there's already a lot going on in 16 chapters and that says a lot but it doesn't FEEL rushed. Like it makes sense. But maybe it gets worse, the other reviews have been saying it's not that good, sigh. <<less
