Transmigrating to Before the Big Boss Blackened

Shi Mu transmigrated into a comic that is a combination of fervor, suspense, and horror. As the dignified, big-ch*sted, and thin-waisted female villain, those who met her all wanted a “late-night chat” with her. But in the end, the blackened big boss sold her off abroad. Rewind to ten years ago, 17-year-old Shi Mu met the still fairly innocent big boss. The boy stood under the sun with squinted eyes, and asked for her name. She trembled.

“Shi Mu…”

Thought for a moment, then said, “I’m male.”

“….”

What can she do? In a world where the plot centers around love and disregards the storyline, the only ones that can protect themselves are males. Only, she didn’t expect that one night, big BOSS suddenly told her:

“I want to be on top. If you make me happy, I’ll occasionally let you get on top too.”

“??????”

What the f*ck did you say?

In order to not get caught, Shi Mu concealed her gender, trained hard for abs, got a tan, developed her morality, intelligence, and physicality, but in the end-

“You’re so pretty,” the big boss smiled devilishly.

Shi Mu: QAQ what’s wrong with you little bro?

I'm finished with MTL. Every chapter never fails to crack me up. MC is the dedication that you want to find in gender-bend/crossdressing novel.

EDIT: Imma be rambling so spoiler underneath

Spoiler

Want to be bros with villain doesn't mean to just change your appearance to look like a guy, you also need to have the weiner in between. But as a girl, how do you fake a weiner? Be boring and put lotsa cotton in a special underwear? Nope, you buy a wearable dild, the type that can become hard and vibrate with a push of a button XD

Now comes the next part, being bros with guys doesnt mean you can just act brash and rude, you also need to have thorough understanding of men's habits and true action. So how and where can you observe a lot of men without being looked like a pe*vert? Gay bar. Now, fellow readers, this is what you call DEDICATION.

The novel have a lot of chicken jokes and probably inappropriate cuss words, but the interaction of the main characters are very enjoyable. Furthermore, ML, OriginalNovelML, MC and OriginalNovelFL all became friends + 1 probably supposed to be cannon fodder, which is pretty rare in this type of CN novels. I have to say, I love the whole gang interactions. MC completely integrated with the guys in her dormitory; comparing sizes, watching/exchanging av, even feeling envious of the bigger size of her male roommates.

The whole plot of the novel happen during their schooldays, but there's not a lot of plot about their school life as half the plot is about MC trying to deal with her weiner and ML, while a quarter involves dealing (sometimes eating) ghosts, and another quarter with MC's family relationship problems.

If there are any plothole in the novel, probably about ML's family relationship. But since this novel is not from Qi the plothole doesn't really matter much as MC's perspective is the most important in the novel. Another plothole should be who killed her (but my suspicion is the system as it was the one that chose MC for the mission). Anyway, story is finished and complete in author's book. The rest can be from interested fanfic author, I guess *shrugs*

[collapse]

TLDR: Solid 5 star for Comedy, MC's DDcation (・ิω・ิ), "Villain"+OriNovel!Protagonists being friends, Sausage jokes with arse-kicking, and Ghost buffet. Read this when you're down, and you will definitely have a laugh somewhere.

This is a must read!

Like the other reviewers have already mentioned this is a standout in its genre because it takes cliche tropes like cross-dressing and transmigration and makes it a million times funnier than you're expecting.

Since the other reviews have talked about the school life dynamic I just want to talk a bit about the supernatural elements in this story because those made me laugh so much.

Basically, the ML has been able to hear and see ghosts from birth which has s**ked because the ghost of his abusive stepmother... more>> has continued to haunt him. While I initially thought the stepmother plot would be difficult to solve and drag on, the author surprised me by resolving this conflict early on by making our FL able to eat ghosts! Yeah, I mean that literally. Our FL is so damn badass because she can eat ghosts and use their essence or whatever to fuel the poison in her own body. Watching the FL solve various problems with this power was hilarious because before the ghosts can even scare her she's already salivating at their scent (the ghosts smell/taste like different human foods to her like roast chicken and steak).
Spoiler

The best part about this was when the ML took the FL to a cemetery for a date because he read a guide on how to court girls that told him to take his date to a quiet place for a meal. Since the FL eats ghosts and the cemetery is quiet he was so proud of himself for thinking of this idea. He even brought a bike so they could bike back romantically not thinking of how long it'd take them to get home from the cemetery (4 hours). Unsurprisingly the date didn't turn out well but the FL appreciated that he tried.

[collapse]

Honestly it was just such a funny, refreshing, but also cute read. I personally have such a soft spot for MLs who are misunderstood and desperately crave normalcy but have to act stoic and unfeeling to protect themselves and our ML here was just that. The FL was great because she was hardworking and not OP or s*upidly naive. You won't regret reading this! <<less

This is the best supernatural gender bender novel I've read so far. It's a brilliant combination of part witty dirty jokes and part gourmet experience---a fully haunted bone-chilling ghost gourmet menu!

But seriously, this is a brilliant comedy novel. The plot is basically a fresh twist of the cliched supernatural, gender bender, reincarnation, family abuse, and villainess troupe all combined in one story. I've read some of the author's works before, but so far this is the best one yet. The strong comedic undertones in between all those dog blood... more>> drama made this novel a light yet fulfilling read. I could be distressed and teary eyed in one chapter while rolling around clutching my stomach for laughing too hard in the next one.

The dirty jokes are simply not for the faint-hearted. The characters, especially ML, are often victimized for the sake of comedy. There's even a chapter where ML watched a lot of gay p*rns for days straight after he realized his feelings for MC Σ (ノ°▽°) ノ

I swear the author got a huge potential to be a comedian. <<less

I've never read a story with MTL before, like legit, this is the first. That is just how hooked I am with this novel. I like everything about it, the setting, the characters, the suspense, the comedy, etc etc etc. Like holy-shit, this novel deserves a solid 5.

MC transmigrated into the body of a tragic villain that shared the same name as her. The ori was inflicted with a Gu and was cast away by her parents to be raised by her grandpa. When she came back, they treated her like the plague. Only her sick twin brother cared for her. When MC got into her body, she immediately left the house and started to crossdress a man. The reason being 1) She needed to develop yang energy to suppress the gu, and 2) ML had a psychological shadow over women so the mission she chose was to become ML's brother instead of a lover. There wasn't much if not any revenge plot because the MC gave no damn about her as*hole family. But some people just wouldn't stop seeking death, like literally. But this story is also very tear-jerking, or maybe because I'm just hella weak when it comes to family problems. Sigh... you will understand once you read it.

The story revolves around their highschool life, so it's full of comedy and occasional horror. Even the ghosts are all quality comedy material. I've laughed my ass countless times. And oh my god, I love the MC and the ML so so much. Although I am quite frustrated with how the MC had been treating the ML, in which she only saw him as a mission goal that she had to accomplish in order to return to her own word. She butted into ML's life, giving him the warmth of a brother *cough* and showering him with love, literally bringing light upon his dark world. And thus the ML just... fell. But goddamn was the MC an airhead and very dense. Or should I say, unfeeling?

The MC herself had also admitted that her actions when she rejected the ML had been very cruel, it was like giving false hopes towards a devastated person. Even when she accepted ML's confession in chapter 89 (slow romance tag please), she had done so because of the change in the mission that the system had given her. Her mission was to marry the ML and give him a home. I was like gurl... no. But as we proceed to the near ending, we can see that the MC genuinely loved the ML and depended on him. I cried when the system asked her what was her last wish and MC answered, she wanted to meet ML again in their next life. She no longer thought of revenge, but only to continue loving ML.

There are a lot more plus points that I want to write but it's gonna be hella long. Read and you shall understand!

Pretty high on the personal enjoyment list but the ending, or second half, of the novel, left me, admittedly, dissatisfied.

Let me just say that the humor carried this novel. Hard carried, really. Even the romance felt a little eh in the face of the laughs and friendship written.

Some good things to start: I absolutely LOVE how detailed the MC was with crossdressing. The details really made me surprised because in novels like this usually the author would... well, gloss them over. Kudos to this author though. Plus the hysterics caused... more>> by the, err, tools she used for crossdressing also gave me vivid secondhand embarrassment. Yeah, the humor of this novel was pretty good and made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Especially the antics of the four roommates and their friendship was really nice. They made dirty jokes (no end to this lmao), teased, got along pretty realistically as a group of schoolboys.

Also, the Zhou guy was MVP tbh.

Moving on, what left a lot to be desired aside from the ending, that felt rushed or weirdly inconclusive, was that there were a lot of things that should have been fleshed out... but wasn't. There was the system and ML's past + family (cough aka his uncle cough). ML also never found out thoroughly from the MC herself about her family (plus the conclusion of her family plot point was just ditched like that...). Which leads me to the romance. It didn't feel as wholesome as I should feel EXCEPT that ML was actually a good boy. The way he accepted ML had my heart full but even that didn't make me feel that something was missing. Maybe it just didn't feel as desperate as it was trying to portray or just that the love didn't feel like it goes both ways. It wasn't that fleshed out I guess. Well, anyway, everything wrapped up (far too) conveniently for the MC so. Hm.

Basically, it's a pretty good novel but nothing too special. <<less

I simply worship this novel rn. MC is a total bad-ass in her own way without unnecessary cringey edge. Like other reviewers said, her dedication to her man disguise is astounding. 125chapters (including epilogue) never cease to make me giggle. This will be placed in my hall of fame as one of the best story i've read.

But alas, the meat is nowhere to be seen but the dirty (?) joke always gets me.

A hilarious Novel Transmigration that stands out uniquely in this genre.

The FL gets transmigrated into a novel because of a system. To accrue enough points to return to her own time and world, she must complete the system task and gather enough Bro Points from the villain of the story. So what better way to complete the tasks than to be by his side as a Bro. Especially, since he's a women hating and ghost cursed recluse. Cutting off all her hair, dressing herself as a guy right down... more>> the c*otch, she as the villainess in the story intrudes on the villain's life. Not only does she dress and act like a guy, she also has dreams of pushing down the villain.

The story really entertains everyone as the FL pretty much becomes a guy with all sorts of locker room jokes, comparing each other's sizes, cursing, watching p*rn, and etc. It's pretty amusing.

The most hilarious scene is when the ML comes upon the FL naked and still doesn't believe she's female because he's been mentally brainwashing himself that he's bent.

It's amazing that by the end of the novel, she the villainess hooks up with the villain, and everyone is BFF's with the original female & male protagonists. There is no stereotypical 3rd party drama between anyone. Most of the tension in the story deals with the FL hiding her gender and from the constant influx of ghosts disturbing everyone.

It's a great novel transmigration story. Even though there's a lot of dirty jokes and toys tossed around, there's actually no smut. But all the bromance was certainly entertaining, even how the FL eats the ghosts is funny. The exasperating arguments between the Gu worms in her body, along with the system, and multiple interruptions of ghosts provide a lot of extra comedy in the story.

It's a relatively short novel at 125 chapters. Well worth a re-read. <<less

This story is hilarious--which is why it's so sad that there's only a few translated chapters. Sure, you can mtl it like I did, but I'm sure it's 100x more entertaining when you can get all the jokes and slang.

This novel has all the makings of a good romcom: we've got a group of teenage friends with secrets, fears and dreams. They make memories, laugh, cry, build bonds and grow up. We've got a whole slew of awkward, accidental sexy moments between our FL and ML--mostly in relation to her... more>> hiding her gender using a "fake chicken" and him misunderstanding her as gay and hitting on him. The school days storyline is also punctured by some ghost hunting fun and some painful family drama between FL and her family, as well as ML and his deceased family. They bond over being unloved and unwanted by the people there supposed to be closest to.

FL is bold and fun--although I sometimes disliked how little she took ML and her friendships seriously. For 90% of the story she viewed ML as a mission and although the author tries to correct this attitude at the end of the novel, it's quickly and sloppily done.

ML is your typical cold, arrogant, rich boy. Although he can be ruthless, he also has a hidden soft side. He moonlights as a sh*tty author of web novels, which was fun. I wish they developed that point a little more. He was the typical example of the "cold, ruthless CEO who becomes a wife s*ave as soon he hooks up with FL" character.

I only gave it 4 stars due to the hurried and disappointing ending. The romance built up nicely throughout the series, but got shoved to the back once it came time to make them an actual couple. However, if you love hilarious gender benders, I think you'll enjoy this novel. <<less

I absolutely enjoyed reading this! It has some really comedic moments that just makes you laugh out loud. A really good gender bender novel with highly unrealistic but enjoyable dosage of ghosts and gu worms.

What I liked: ... more>>
Spoiler

I love how the protagonist took the time to learn to be a "boy" and had no issues been seen as gay. The story is not queer baiting and has genuine gay character with a really nice story arc. The protagonist actually went through the time to go to an adult story and get a "penis". Head strong, opinionated, intelligent, independent yet not low in EQ, she is rare in gender bender category.

The male lead is damn cute and the relationship dynamics with the protagonist was really sweet.

The friend circle was filled with absolutely lovable characters and the protagonist's twin brother's emotional progression and development was mwuh!

[collapse]

why the 3 star?

Spoiler

This novel has one of the most useless system I've encountered. And I personally am not a fan of how the system low key is controlling and manipulative of the protagonist in novel's first half with unreasonal tasks and point deduction. The task had never had anything to do with brotherhood and just giving that option and then forcing the protagonist in that way with unreasonable skinship made me feel uncomfortable.

The story never got around to why the system had allocated these particular tasks and task target. And though I understand the protagonist's choice to forgo her original world for a reincarnation with the male lead, it seemed entirely anticlimactic.

I would have like to see more of what happened to the Shi family and the repercussion of her crossdressing and exposure of ghost eating. These were just brushed through and rushed out.

MTL-ed it to the end! My opinion is... hmm, rather complicated. But I like it, 8/10!

The FL here is pretty unique. She's... shamelessly desperate, I guess you could say? She really puts her all in dressing up as a guy, even when it leads to awkward situations she still continues winging it. Fortunately enough, it usually works out! Unfortunately, we readers suffer the mental damage on her behalf... (and there's a lot of it)

The ML is... haha, you think he's all cool and stoic, but certain parts reveal that... more>> he's... s*upidly pure, in a way. Maybe that's why future-villain-him became so twisted... Black ink on white paper and such.

He finds out her real gender around, umm... 70% into the book? (The site I read on doesn't follow chapters, but the reveal was around 180 out of 251 chapters) Not before a lot of gay panic on his side, though. He actually got a bit upset when he realised her true gender cause all that effort went to waste, lol.

Big warning though: there are certain rather... harsh scenarios (is the author trying to stick to the original horror story setting??) that might end up pretty traumatic.
Spoiler

There's the case of a child ghost shortly before the gender reveal, and also including FL's own family. Both situations are really, really bad. Also some public stigma towards LGBT issues (but that gets resolved fairly okay, so don't worry).

[collapse]

But the relationship between the FL, ML and other characters (including the original FL and ML!) still makes the story worth it. I actually didn't like any of the other characters but they grew on me like a fungus, and before I knew it I also grew attached, hahaha...

So, overall! The writing is pretty decent, the pacing is fine except for the end which feels a bit rushed, and the characters are adorably charming. Do give it a read if you can! <<less

Overall, it's like a 3.5 from me. High on the personal enjoyment scale, mid on plot and writing.

The writing was overall, ok. The comedy and character dynamics were the real highlight of this story. The cast of side characters were for one, memorable! And for two, very lovable. The enemies not so much, but the bro-ships is where it's at. While they weren't REALLY fleshed out as characters, they had some personal/unique aspects that made it FEEL like they weren't just flimsy paper cutouts. The ML is also this way,... more>> where he exudes the domineering ice cube trope but is actually quite nice. The comedy was the real star, with fake PP shenanigans and the crude (yet entertaining) humor. Shi Mu actually does feel like she tapped into the guy mentality rather than was a girly boy stuck in a boy's dorm like most crossdressing plots go. But what do I know, I am a girl lol

Objectively, I was pretty disappointed with the plot. I came into this expecting more horror or system elements, but those are more or less minor tools to move the real plot. In truth, this story is just a romance comedy school life. Ghosts, system, pre-established comic setting, Shi Mu's backstory before possessing her new body, Shi Mu's past actions, her current backstory and newfound abilities, the ML's tragic backstory and family matters etc-- everything is kinda just... there. Glossed over, and never really given a spotlight. Some bits do appear in the plot but like, never really enough to influence the story to shift genres outside of comedic school life. Which is a shame, I think.

I also think it approaches some controversial subjects quite insensitively, but I'll give that a pass because of different cultural values and such. If you're used to Chinese web novels then I don't think you'll be too phased, but if you're sensitive to these issues then maybe take caution. I do have to give a hand for giving a good back story to a homos*xual character and not villainizing them, turning them into comedic relief and making them into an actually good adult figure in the protagonist's life. Honestly I feel he shoulda gotten a bigger role but I'll take these crumbs.

Overall, it's a cute, funny story and can be considered short for a Chinese web novel. Don't expect too much for plot, but if you like crossdressing shenanigans and guy humor, check it out. <<less

The (female) MC due to circumstances (cough) decided to crossdress as a guy (!) staying in the boys dormitory (!!!). The MC went to extreme measures to be a convincing guy. The humour is lowbrow (my fave type of humour lol) and I laughed so hard while reading at 2am. However, the public reveal is poorly done. There are also some parts that are too illogical that I cannot suspense my disbelief.

I read the raws (which uses a lot of meme/slang, so this might not be easy to MTL.

This is adorable. If you like funny, dorky, and cute characters you definitely have to read this.

The story revolves around a character who transmigrated (like usual) into a comic. She was given two choices, either to romance the villain or to be his best bro. She, of course, chose the second option and dressed as a boy.

Though the couple itself was cute, the dynamic between each character and how they smoothly go back and forth to build each other is the actual highlight of the story.

Though it contains some dark... more>> elements, overall it is a light and easy read.

Highly recommend! <<less

It’s a cute story with some funny moments. Both leads have quite a sad past and both are entangled with supernatural. Love the dynamic between both leads. The novel is quite weak in romance and mainly that’s because the FL is not really in love for most of the novel but it’s quite strong in friendship feelings.

This has its flaws but I just want to say it beats all gender benders because she put on a fake dick. I mean. Honestly. All the other female MC's take notes. It's like why didn't I think of that @ everyone else

I honestly want to give it a 3.5 bc literally what happened to her sister and father's revenge lol. Like the author just forgot them idk but I did read the mtl.

Has one of the best brotherhood friendships outside of a bl novel. The second hand embarrassment is... more>> real but not overly dumb. The supernatural / characters iz kinda dark. Low-key. Family is sh*t but oh well. At least the friends are good with both genders w the MC <<less

Mmm about 4.5/5

Pretty good, entertaining and funny. The author is really hilarious. I liked the characters and their interactions, specially how the ML can have embarrassing and really awkward moments, even with his lone wolf (and domineering?) vibe so I could relate to the ML which is actually rare for me. But after the main couple got together, I didn't really feel the fluffy romantic feelings. I think the author is not into romance much.. I agree with others that the second half is less entertaining than the first.

I also... more>> agree that the MC is really good and what you want to see in a gender bender novel

Low angst, but not boring. Carefree vibe which fits my requirement. I really don't know why every MC in most novels has to shoulder the world responsibility or be a celebrity and the center of all country attention. <<less

Spoiler

While the comedy and dirty jokes inevitable in a male school dormitory life made it a very enjoyable read unfortunately too much focus on the comedy aspect made the romance feel too lacking.

While you can see that the ML loves FL, the same cannot be said for FL. Until the end she has never once made her reason for crossdressing or family situation clear, I think if she were to make even a perfunctory explanation to ML it would be much better than this. Even tho the ending was HE, I still felt a little bit sad because we can see from the question ML asked while dying from old age that he was never sure until the day he died as to whether FL really loved him or just seen him as a mission.
