His life experience justifies it. If I had the same thing happening to me I’ll probably think the same as him. In fact this novel is a bit of psychological to the FL to the ML they both have their own psychological hurdle and by the end of the novel they’ll completely got rid of it.

Its so funny that when they went to a horror house. The ghost cant scare ML because hes scary looking, but wanting to scare MC, but MC is like all smiling and saying hello. After they left she said "so fun". ML was like ? "Yea, you think its fun. The female ghost in white stretched her hand to scare you but you ran up to her and gave her a high five" ???

its funny how he gets motion sickness while taking the bus with her.

like when FL on the phone cryng 'I'm ok' but ML still worry and call her cousin and ask, then, this cousin saying FL try to commit su*cide bc hurtn losing her parents. ML like "turn outs my baby commit su*cide'

Our Lead Characters:

Our ML has a traumatic past of losing his mother at a young age and the adults in his life were so busy trying to justify her death they forgot to just be there for him to grieve. His father in a desperate attempt to somehow make his wife's death meaningful compounds the problem by bringing home someone that raises the stress in this family (through no active fault of her own or anyone else) to the critical boiling point that separates the ML from his family. It was a ridiculously dramatic series of events. Yet instead of leaning into that drama the author revealed his family troubles to be: a very organic evolution of conflicting responses to trauma. The author even avoided the trap of perfect reconciliation. For once the adult had to recognize their own culpability in the broken relationship and the child grew well without reforming that connection. They did reach a kind of peace in the end. It was anti climatic but also perfect to the tone of semi-realism and sweetness that permeates this story.

That tonal choice is my biggest criticism. The way the author left many many threads of story dangling or rushed was frustrating but thats life. Not every relationship or problem was going to be resolved perfectly if it was to be true true to life-for a fantasy. That anticlimactic tone was carried so consistently through the story it really seems more like an intentional choice than the author being lazy. Gotta respect that.

I really hated the fact that Ji Rang's father married the woman. The reason why Ji Rang hated martyrs or poilcemen was because his father was a soldier and during a situation where Ji Rang's mother was kidnapped, the father tried to save but there were two people as hostage. One pregnant woman and the other his wife. Basing on the situation, he cannot save both. And the one with the best chance of survival was the pregnant woman so in the end, he saved her and sacrificed his wife. Since then, Ji Rang hated his father. I don't know what to feel too if I were in his position. But my anger was driven when a few years later, he married the woman he saved. He apparently saw her again and she had a miscarriage from that time. And yeah, he saved her again and the woman thought she could talk to JiRang on forgiving his father but in the end an accident happened and she fell and she got another miscarriage (since she was pregnant again from her ex bf (not sure I forgot)) Anyway, yeah, another can of worms and the family blamed JiRang and that's why he left the family. And the father was guilty so he married the woman. And I'm like.... dude you're just worsening the situation! You can compensate the woman by other means! Not marry her! It would just look like you picked her instead of your son! It would also look like that you actually saved your mistress instead of your wife. Uggh, disgust. And they expect JiRang to forgive him when he matures. That can only happen when you guys also do mature decisions! GRR

Anyway, yeah, I don't really like his father.

His mom and a pregnant woman are both held hostaged, but the dad chose to save the pregnant woman because there's a higher probabality of her being saved. And so the mom died. And the grandfather and father justified that it's the right decision by making Ji Rang watched the cctv and analyzing it from a policeman's POV. And after that, the Dad felt responsible for the pregnant woman (who miscarried) and became very sick so he married her. He didn't even think about how his son would feel. And so, his son rebelled against them and tried to be the worst. Qi Ying 's talk with the dad is really on point, why would they immediately condemn the son as being selfish, when they can't even think from a boy's perspective.

He's scared when he learned she attempted su*cide and consulted a psych in her stead on how to help her get better. I think that's just sweet.

FL supposedly transmigrates into the body of a girl who committed su*cide. The original soul’s parents were killed by criminals. She encounters ML at her new school and recognizes him as her general immediately. ML was angry and self destructive at the time. Meeting FL, ML wants to change for the better to be worthy of being her boyfriend.

ML hates his dad because his dad was a cop and chose to save someone else over his mom during a hostage situation. His mom died. Then his family thought ML tried to hurt the woman his dad saved. ML’s dad also married the woman.

FL didn’t transmigrate, she was able to recall her past life after trying to kill herself.

MC's father, mother died. ML's mother died and he's not in a good relationship with his family and it is also his family fault ba.

and as someone who grew up in a military family in a third world country, I can tell you that although the male lead's resentment about martyrdom was very extreme, it was reasonable. When a soldier dies in my country, they only provide for his/her children until they're 18 and after that, your parent's sacrifice will only be a life lost. Martyrdom is only glorious when you are detached from the martyr. When you're related to one, the glory would never fill the hole left by the life lost. I honestly like how realistic the author's take on this topic was. The ML's character did end up developing very well and his resentment was thoroughly explained so if you do end up getting irked by one of the foreshadowing dialogues of the ML, I hope you still give this novel a try.
