Su Xiaoman was a fake daughter of a wealthy family. She is not loved by her biological parents. She was also rejected by her adoptive parents.

When she woke up again, she found herself in a book and became the village flower Su Xiaoman in the 1970s.

Su Xiaoman is the wife of a villain male supporting role.

The original Su Xiaoman, who disliked poverty and loves the rich, is devoted to climbing high branches, and is obsessed with Jiang Yantang, the educated youth male protagonist who just went to the countryside.

Su Xiaoman was unwilling to marry Xie Mingtu because of his poverty, and is still obsessed with the male protagonist Jiang Yantang. Who knows that not long after, the second brother of the male protagonist Jiang Yantang went to the countryside to visit relatives, and found that the poor boy Xie Mingtu was the real child of the Jiang family, and the male protagonist Jiang Yan Tang was held wrong.

Xie Mingtu returned to Jiang’s house in the courtyard, but he was ridiculed because he was gloomy and vulgar, and he couldn’t compare to the fake boy Jiang Yantang, and his wife was also even more obsessed with Jiang Yantang…

In this way, Xie Mingtu had completely blackened, mad and ruthless, and became the biggest villain in the book, and ended up tragically.

When Su Xiaoman opened her eyes, Xie Mingtu, the biggest villain in the book, was about to feed her rice soup. His clothes were tattered and his bones were visible. When he saw her wake up, his tone was humble and cautious:

“Manman?”

When Xie Mingtu thought that the woman would not give him any response, a pair of slender and tender hands grabbed his thin wrist.

There isn't much drama but the story is too sweet, I ended up MTL-ing it to the end. It's just a pile of dog food, dog food and more dog food! My single self has been abused very well.

The male lead is an all-rounder low-key genius but he doesn't really sit in the limelight like the other male leads in other novels where they have to show that they are super capable becoming super young genius richest CEO of the century or youngest marshal. The male lead prefers to be... more>> behind the scenes doing research and studying random stuff for additional knowledge. He is also the 24/7 technical support of the household. He is extremely virtuous and capable since his origin was humble; you need a chair? He can do carpentry! You are hungry and there is no food at home? He will cook for you with the food supplies he mysteriously hid somewhere! You want to read a novel? He will write exciting stories with your requested genre and ending! You need cosmetics, jewelries or random strange useful gadgets? He will create those for you! You want to remodel the house? He has studied relevant books on architecture and will make the house look simple, beautiful, cozy and well-furnished

You only need to pay with love, food and a long session of playing hard at night!

He's like D*raemon.

The female lead is sweet, reasonable and also virtuous. She's not overly OP but she is good at catching opportunities with her own ability (and beauty) and also the help of the male lead.

The romance is satisfying, balanced and reasonable. Even little bit of misunderstandings are easily and cleanly corrected. No toxic relationship and also their love is so sweet they attracted love and accidentally made side couples from surprises and coincidences.

I also read this with a mother's heart, so I often go, "Ah yes, my cubs have grown plump and lovely, they have grown handsome and beautiful, ahhh they gave birth to my lovely grandchildren, so filial" <<less

Rather MEH for me.

It's a very slow novel about being rural poor in 1970s China with an absurd amount detail about little things that I didn't care much about. It also has real problems with massive amounts of exposition and exceptionally slow pacing.

If you can get past the writing problems, you wind up with a slow novel that as of half way through doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Bottom line, I really wanted to like this but it disappoints.

A very sweet novel. I really like it. The relationship between the main characters is very sweet and cute. I really like the heroine who tries to live her life without much planning, fear or relying on her knowledge of the original plot. She just lives and perceives everyone around her as real people, not characters from a book. Sometimes she is surprised, as it seems to her, by some inconsistencies between what is described in the book and what is happening in reality. And with sadness, she watches how... more>> some moments from the original plot still happen one way or another in life. Her compassion and sympathy for her husband is real and comes not from materialistic considerations of survival or convenience, but from empathy. <<less

The story was good in the beginning but later it got so boring that I skipped some chapters. Even after skipping I felt like there was no development in the story. I like fluffy novels with more interaction between ML and FL but here it bored the hell out of me. Also in EVERY chapter the author had to mention how beautiful and handsome the FL and ML looks. I really wanted to to tell the author "we get it, please stop writing about it". Most of the later chapters... more>> are fillers about the looks of ML and FL and how people around them discuss about this. This was like an entertainment novel with netizens.

I also felt bad for the original ML, it wasn't his mistake and he was also in a confusing state. It wasn't fair to the ML too. But the ML had FL and other people with him, but the original ML was all alone. Every one were like 'his mother tortured the ML so how can you treat her son so good?'. It wasnt the fault of the original ML, why were everyone asking him to be removed from the family and punish him too? When the MLs real mother tells everyone she wants to adopt him as a godson, I felt nothing wrong with that. But the people around acted as if that's a sin. I totally get it that the ML was against it, but I felt ridiculous looking at the behavior of other people including the FL. If you want to find a fault then it would really be their mother's. Both were crazy. One swapped the baby and tortured him, the other spoilt her son and ignored other sons and later after knowing he is not her son, she ignores him too. They hurt both of them because of their selfish thinking.

If you like a story with not much development and only fluff you might like it. <<less

It was ok.

I skipped some stuff.

I'm more of a romance person and the romance was not romancing enough for me.

... more>> Also the change in the mother was. Kind. Of sudden and the dad was doing something excessive. Good thing the ML was there

The mom was suspecting and disliking of ML when he was a CHILD that was young and saw her as his bio mother

Idk how the su lady went from normal to that all of a sudden.

Obsessed maybe but who knows.

Everything was kind of fast and done over with.

Too much emphasis on other things like career and the progress of their surroundings because of their actions.

I literally don't care. I want love, conflict, tears, blood, and anger.

I want sweetness wrapped in bittersweet memories and a love beyond status, money, and family. I want more than just she was my light in my dark times.
    • The romance was too little. It was like 20% of the novel. NOT ENOUGH

It's quite slow at the start and can be boring but it picks up around 20+ chapters. There are even funny parts that I can't help but be amused.

The story was very laid back for a 'fake and true child genre' but somehow I find everyone acceptable. The cast may not be the most rational but I guess the author did a great job narrating about their mentality. Whether it is them just plainly being emotional or ignorant due to the environment.

For example, there are indeed plenty of side characters... more>> that are watching the fun or jealous towards the main leads. But ultimately, those are just simple human feelings, they're jealous about superficial things and therefore that feeling is also shallow. Once they can't compare, ignored, or end up distracted with other things, they no longer hang around and exit. And I think that just normal, and such jealousy isn't enough to be so malicious. Unlike most novels where a simple jealousy was enough for a mob character to confront the leads until they die.

I actually also like that while some end up liking the lead since they're very beautiful, once they learn they're married, there's no sabotaging happening. Of course there's some sour words going around. People are indeed gossipy after all. But there are also some that realized that rather than trying so hard to climb up in marriage, it's better to have one similar to the leads where they're equal.

For other readers, they might think that many side characters were forgotten by the author. But as I said, maybe it's their writing, or maybe the tone set of the story that is laid back, but I can accept how plenty of side characters faded in the background. Because in reality, plenty of people are actually just random encounters and intersections. After that momentary intersection with the leads, everyone continue on their own lives and their ending didn't really matter to the leads as they also have their own lives.

As for the 'fake-real son', I think the author's handling of it was ok. It might seem like in the end, it just faded but truth be told, the whole thing was complicated and there's no real answer. The real mother of ML had biases but ultimately a mother, she wanted the child that she raised and also wanted this new biological child. Was she wrong? Yes and no. It's a very emotional thing but as everyone said to her, the peace she wanted was impossible and she learn that in a very heartbreaking way. None of the two child was at fault, but they couldn't co-exist. The grandparents choice for me was hard as they had to choose one and let go of the other. Anyway, I really like her mental struggles although I think some of it were just out of emotional distressed.

As for the O!ML, he's very hypocritical and spoiled but ultimately isn't a villain. He's used to being the favorite child, that behaved child that his mother unconditionally loved. So while he knew he's the faked child, he still wanted people to coax him. And while saying sensible things, he relied to his mother years of love so he's very confident inside. Although in the end he's disappointed and felt very wronged, I think he finally reflected and grow up. At least he realize he needed to do things himself. He kind of faded in the end so I guess he end up independent. I could only sigh that the mother emotional immaturity hurt but him and the ML. Their situation was difficult to handle already but this mother of them escalated it.

Anyway, I think it's ok. The culprit was sent to prison and no other innocent was dragged. The O!ML end is left to our imagination but I guess he did end up living independently which is already a good ending (though it would be nice if the author could show if he still have a bit of relationship with his now adopted mother. I just feel that while he's a hypocrite, he did have feelings to the mother that spoiled him). And for ML and his mother, it took years to at least able to interact normally and finally be able to get together in reunions.

Oh, I also just realized, the Jiang family was said to lack literacy talents and all have straight men esthetics but they all married people related to literacy and arts ahahaha

Elder brother married a pianist or something

Second brother married a novelist/editor

Third sister married an actor from the art troop that later turn into a music teacher

Our ML married MC who's into make up and fashion

I liked this drama about swapped babies. Both the FL and the ML grew up as "fake" kids and were mistreated by the parents they believed to be their real moms and dads. And both sets of their real parents still preferred their fake kids after the truth was revealed.

So, the FL transmigrates into 1975 and finds herself married to the ML who is still abused by the family that swapped him in the craddle 18years ago. Their marriage is not legal, he is underage, but their parents still forced... more>> them together, without any wedding, no bride price nor dowry, nothing, and the whole village considered them to be spouses just because in that village at that time if a man saves a woman from drowning and touches her he has to marry her. She automatically becomes his (!!!) So, the couple still had to wait for about a year and a half until they could get their marriage certificate.

The family drama that ensued was rather interesting and very well written. So well, that I would read anything else by this writer. Only the last part of the novel that deals with the ML's siblings marrying and the ML himself becoming a dad and then Jack of all trades was so-so.

Spoiler

Fluffy Edits seems to have stopped translating it, so I will warn the reader. Just MTL it from chapter one. Fluffy edited out 2/3 of the content, so a lot of text is missing in their Cliff Notes version of the novel. But I am still grateful that they picked up the novel and did the work of simpifying it and let us know about this novel here, on this website. I enjoyed it!

At first chapters it's interesting but slowly get more and more boring, I really wanna finish reading this novel tbh but I can't..

No drama drama club, their life is really smooth that I got envy lol. Okay this is slice of life but wish that author put more spice if she wanna make the novel this long. To much details not necessary that author put, better if author just make it 60-70 ch.

This is just a relaxing read with super OP ML and laid back FL. You will really sympathize with the ML's story that you can't help but root for him. Sometimes I think the whole story revolved around ML, which is great as the FL was like a narrator and somewhat boring to some extent.

There's some faceslapping here and there, a staple writing in c-novels. Just showcasing the halos of the ML and FL.

The romance betweeen the couple is endearing and I liked the fluff especially the ML is a... more>> puppy with a heart of a wolf. It might come a bit boring since there's no real love rivals except the 2nd ML in the early chapters, even so this 2nd ML faded into the background and you can't really say he was a 2nd ML but just a passerby.

Since the story lacks some spiciness it became bland but it makes up for the characters being animated and its worldbuilding. One of the side characters-Zhao QingQing has so much personality and a fun character to read.

Had to MTLed this novel and it was already enjoyable but once this novel is properly translated will surely read it again. <<less

I really liked this novel. It’s a slice of life about rural life in the 70-80 in China. So there is not a lot of major drama. Love the ML who’s like a puppy with the FL and people he likes but a cold wolf to everyone else. Loved the FL as well. It’s a bit cliché but still very entertaining.

The story is more of a historical record of life in the 1970s. There aren't any grand revenge plots or misunderstanding tropes so it is a relaxing read. Lack of drama aside, the couple is adorable. The ML is a OP genius golden retriever type. ML can learn anything after seeing it once, and he has an amazing ability to do math. Even foreign languages aren't difficult to him. He is incredibly doting and stands up for his wife quicker than he'd stand up for himself. ... more>>
Spoiler

He even learned a lot of poetry to write letters to his wife lol.

Although he was said to become a villain in the OG novel, we find out that circumstances of his very difficult childhood blackened him... Anyway, the arrival of the FL gave him an alternate path.

The FL is also OP but not on the same level as ML. So much so that I'd think the ML is the MC if it wasn't for the novel being in FL's perspective. FL has a strong character, and she's resourceful. I also liked that she's not a pushover softie. She will not sit while getting verbally abused and will return exactly what's thrown at her. <<less

I like this type of novel. Especially one with the male lead isn’t domineering or super duper rich but he’s living in poverty. Kinda gives a different taste. The female lead, tbh, I had nth special to comment about her since there’re only 4 chapters now and I’m waiting to see her next move. Love the idea of the book yet I kinda hate the info dump (or maybe not), well it’s just too much for me to remember all those names in one go with my countable brain cells.... more>> T.T <<less

Hey, it's not bad. Contrary to other stories with similar settings where the FL is also a transmigrator, this story doesn't have an OP FL but the ML is really OP and a genius. Also, the FL doesn't engage in the so-called black market business during that era, the biggest difference between her and other FLs of similar settings.

As for the romance, it's quite good and smooth. I can really see its development, from cautiousness to passionate to steadiness. I really like the ML's doggy behavior lol. The latter romance... more>> is really steady and more focused on their family of four, but nevertheless, it's still sweet.

I think the author's favorite should be the ML rather than the FL, so do I. The ML's character development is indeed more interesting because the FL's is more monotonous and flat so it is understandable that the ML is more likable. However, despite this, the author still portrays the FL to be independent and capable, especially to the characters in the novel— she is. But it's very obvious who's the author's fave though lol. Anyway, it doesn't matter because I like them both.

As for the plot, it's not that uncommon but yeah, it still has its own uniqueness which I already mentioned above. The ending is not too abrupt and just right. But I don't know if there's extra stories though. Anyway, I thought that there is and what's more, the FL said that the ML is very similar to the Qin family's eldest young master in the modern times, I thought that the ML and FL will transmigrate back in the modern day and they'll meet and the ML is indeed Qin shao. Anyway, if there's indeed an extra story, I didn't see it. However, I can't say that the ending is very satisfying, but it's fine. It's just that there's one thing that I think the author has forgotten (I mean, it's clearly that he/she gave some foreshadowing about it but then, didn't mentioned it nor those characters again until the end).
Spoiler

It's the ML's maternal family. It seems like they are more or less connected to the child swapping incident. However, they didn't appear anymore, like they are forgotten already.

[collapse]

Lastly, regarding the narration and writing style, it's good. It's detailed and most of all, funny and engaging most of the time. I just think that the latter chapters were kinda boring but maybe it's just me. Overall, I'll give it an 8.5/10. <<less

This is really not what I was expecting. It's more slice-of-life, for one thing. Unlike most similar stories set in the same era (1970s China), this novel focuses more on daily life than in making money. In this way, it serves as a pretty simple read. I ended up not finishing it because I'm not really the slice-of-life type of person. But I still enjoyed reading about the main characters — who can be said to be pretty unique in terms of motivations and base personalities.

________

SUMMARY: The FL, Su Xiaoman,... more>> finds herself being reborn in the 1970s as a newly wedded cannon fodder from a historical novel about two educational youths. The original owner of her body was the type to love the poor and disdain the rich. And accordingly, after ended up being married to the ML (Xie Mingtu), was very unhappy. There's a lot more going on in the background, but the main point is that Su Xiaoman's transmigration is pretty tricky. The ML at this stage had not yet been abused by the original owner, but he had been beaten down by his fake adoptive parents. Knowing of what would happen to the ML in the future, the FL is sympathetic and decides to live as a pseudo-husband and wife with him for now. And so the story proceeds in this way. With an optimistic but rather simple FL without high ambitions slowly cleaning up a highly talented/genius ML who had been buried under the mud.

________

THOUGHTS: First things first, in terms of quality, I'd say it's not bad. It's a simple and cute romance. The experience would have been better if the TL is a little cleaner (the current TL is edited MTL, I think, the quality is okay, but needs some editing.) The MTL is readable but a lot of the jokes and nuance is also lost, making it difficult to truly judge the story without any bias. I deciding to give this novel a rating anyway because I'm not sure I'll be rereading it in the future. It's not my type of novel, after all. It's too vanilla for my taste. That is, if you enjoy simple romances where there's no real goal or direction, just an account of the min character's sweet daily life, then by all means! This novel is definitely for you. As for me, I enjoyed it well enough (mainly because I thought the characters were pretty interesting), though it's definitely nowhere close to being a favorite. AHH I'm just going round in circles now XD. Straight to the rating! I've decided to give this novel a 3.25/5. Not enough to round up to 4 stars, but still not bad. <<less

my honest rating would be 3.2-3.5

so this is a very laid-back story there isn't much face-slapping or terrible drama other than the usual that is common in such settings. It's a slice-of-life story that I can understand for a lot of people coming in would be considered 'boring' just solely because it's very easygoing and not many deep things are discussed. for such novels with this kind of setting where nothing supernatural is going on, more depth needs to be added and the story would need much finer details and... more>> allow us to be submerged and feel for people in that century and era...

however, this novel did wrap up the relationship very well with the swapped OG ML. For some people ik they read to a certain point and were fed up with how the ml's parents were ready to kick out the 'fake child aka OG ML' and how they turned on him. But if you read further, you'll see how the mother finally came to a realization that how she possibly could have been manipulated by the youngest child (fake/OG ML) leading to years and years of sour build-ups with her other sons turning their relationship poorer. Though the mother should be the one with the greatest responsibility for how things are with her sons...I enjoy how the author gave this foreboding feeling of making the mother suspicious of the child's past actions... its sort of was left to our imagination and like an open book with possibilities...

good story, laid back, slice of life, and sort of plain and real.

I liked it. <<less

I can understand that the author want to make the male lead life different form the "original novel" after meeting his new family because he meet the female lead and that they accept him, and I can understand their love for the male lead as their lost son who suffer so much for so many years, But, I really can't swallow how she made this new family suddnely change their face with the "son" they loved, cared about for a whole 19 years so easly, so suddenly and treat him... more>> like wors than an enemy. For me they appear to be unworthy of the love and affection he had for them all his life, yes, they can hate his biological mother, but he himself is totally innocent, but they suddnely drove him away from the family, hate him, talking about him like they have never been a close family before, just like if he has killed their family, and take it as a matter of fact! <<less
