I don’t need any deep relationships. I have no desire for a girlfriend, and I only require one friend who holds any value to me. Ever since I threw out my youth for the sake of efficiency, there is one person who keeps entering the bedroom of Ooboshi Akiteru. She’s neither my little sister nor my friend. She’s nothing more than a bothersome, annoying Kouhai, as well as my friend’s little sister: Kohinata Iroha.

“Senpai, let’s go on a date~! Did you think I’d say that~?”

Rather than blood, it seems like energy drinks run through her veins. She keeps occupying my bed, and she tries her best to seduce me with whatever method she can play to her favor. She’s a girl who’s constantly annoying and obnoxious around me. Even though I’m busy all day long, she doesn’t care.

And in case you’re wondering why all these envious gazes are directed at me, it’s because Iroha is actually really popular. She’s an honor student at our school with top grades to boot, and she’s known for being kind and proper to anyone she meets.

…Hey now, why are you only so annoying when you’re around me?

Honestly I hate the heroine. The story itself is decent. I like most of the characters. The writing is decent as well. But the main character wasn't kidding when he said no sane person would keep on annoying someone they like. Seriously, if it was a male character, breaking into the room of a female character everyday would be the creepiest thing ever. But it's fine if a girl does it? She is even sabotaging his chances to getting a really good job in the future as a "prank". The... more>> main characters keeps it under control but doing that in real life would be the shittiest thing you could ever do. <<less

This novel is topping charts over in Japan, and for good reason. It's a romcom where the MC is a lovable champ, everyone is a complex character, and the author really shows his mastery of both prose and storytelling. He also withholds a lot of information upfront, and trickles it to you in all the right places. Read it, and read it as blind as you can. It's on the same level as greats such as OreGairu.

There's only one novel out so far in Japan, but I can already say... more>> we'll be getting an anime and it'll be a smash hit if this keeps up. So you might as well read the LN and be ahead of the curve.

If all this sounds like hyperbole, then it's probably because you *haven't read it yet*. <<less

Since I haven't finished reading volume 2, I will be writing this review based on volume 1 only.

Long story short, I can say that this novel is currently one of my favorite rom-com LN of all times.

For a LN to be called as rom-com, you gotta have romance, and also obviously comedy.

And this novel really killed it on both categories. In comedy, I actually laugh from some of the scenes in this novel. Usually at best I would only giggles, since I think comedies are better brought by manga or... more>> anime where we can see the expressions of the characters.

In the romance aspect, duh I get chills when I read the novel. It's somehow predictable but also unpredictable, you couldn't help but to wonder what will happen next, or who will win

My suggestion is, at least try to read the first volume.

Do you like novels in which 90% of characters talk about our cool character, who is totally normal.... But they know that's not the case, he is mysteriously cool! And he is super logical and efficient... Except for when he helps all his friends (and beautiful ladies) ? Oh and all his friends and him are super geniuses? If so try it. For me, this stinks of the style that was popular in manga like 10 years ago? About supermerds (a bit like ready player one). Can see why people... more>> like it, for me the author takes themself too seriously.

That being said, translation is great. <<less

If you enjoy romcoms like How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend or Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, you'll likely enjoy this one as well. Expect an anime adaptation, too good to pass on this.

No mystery or anything, kinda obvious plot and cliche, just some interesting characters each with some backgrounds. The imouto is growing on me, her annoyness fits her in a good way and the interaction with the MC goes together nicely. Annoying maybe, but understandable once you get to know her story/background. I personally don't... more>> like the other girl though. I find her more annoying in a bad way and find it weird since she's a cousin.

It's like any other standard SOL, RomCom-Harem, School life out there. If you like the genre, you'll like this. It doesn't really revolutionize the genre or anything, it's just... standard. The author got everything they needed to get right, right. Story doesn't drag on, character development is good, and pacing is great. Everything you expect from this type of genre is here, and it's an enjoyable read, good enough to get a manga/anime adaptation.

First of all, let me say this. This novel is AMAZING!

Ok, there. And this is my first time writing a review so excuse me.

The MC is actually a really interesting character with how he does things and it’s hard to find a reason to hate him. The heroine is a really lovable character too and she is completely my type, in MY OPINION. Also, the way that the author writes his story is pretty unique and it just makes you want to read more of them. For example,

their group chats. Yes they are funny, different, and interesting. It’s like seeing yourself in your own group chat with your friends, but put yourself in the story instead.

Well, I’d recommend people to read this if they are here for the comedy and romance, basically a romcom. If you hate an annoying heroine, then get out of here, please. No joke. It’s in the title of the novel, up there. So don’t complain about it. I, personally, love this novel because of the relationship between the MC and the heroine. It’s basically the whole point of the novel, I guess? <<less

Honestly I'm surprised by the amount of high praise this novel gets to the point I had to confirm that I was reading the correct novel

Novel could have been ok, but Main girl absolutely ruins every single moments she is in (and even when she is not, she still ruins everything)

She is not cute or fun or endearing or interesting. She's just a bully and an unbearable one at that. Clearly the author loves her, but that just makes her all the more unappealing in my opinion

Honestly if I... more>> could give it a lower score I would <<less

I bought the first volume to this series while I was in Japan 2 weeks ago. I did not know anything about it except for it was being advertised in every anime store in akihabara so I decided to buy it out of curiosity. Found the translated version online and began reading, I can't stop reading it, it's soooo good that you just keep reading without even thinking and with every chapter your thinking to yourself "wait this is the end of the chapter.... What?!?!?!?!" in some ways it almost... more>> hard to believe this is a light novel because it doesn't feel like one.

I agree that this is probably one of the best anime like stories I have read and I'm only on chapter 5. I believe this series will become an anime with the pace it's going. If every manga and anime store in Akiba is advertising and having special sections for this one series then there's no doubt in my mind it will go far!!!!!! I recommend to all who see this to read it Immediately if you want to see what I mean. <<less

Had a great start, but devolved to a generic harem with world class geniuses

This novel is best described as a fallen angel: it used to be down to earth with relatable daily life problems. The official translations are also amazing with modern slangs. It's a story of a group of misfits that stick with each other, and yes the titular little sister is annoying

But it quickly jumped the shark and went straight to "we have world class geniuses in here". A boy turns out to be a genius programmer that... more>> whips out video editing software within days. You know how knowing a profession makes it hard watching a movie about it due to hollywood artistic license? OK this is subjective so whatever

A girl turns out to be a master of disguise whose voice can literally be anything. You know how Conan Edogawa needs a special machine to do it? Yeah this world class genius doesn't need that sort of thing

A woman turns out to be world class strategist capable of playing 6D chess and thinking 200 years ahead (exaggeration... not really... maybe...)

A girl turns out to be world class sound engineer capable of whipping out trendy music without even thinking about it

I think you get the picture

The biggest problem is that by the end of volume 1, the titular little sister isn't even the point anymore. The story devolved into about the misfits as a whole, they've evolved from supporting characters to main characters of their own, who has nothing much to do with the little sister herself. It feels like the author lost focus and went berserk in an attempt to prolong the story.

I won't deny that the stories are interesting if I look at it from generic harem genius viewpoint, but that's not why I read this: I was promised a story about a relatable bunch of misfits and a particularly annoying tsundere imouto. The story I got isn't anything like that, it should've been a spin off

This novel eventually feels like Fallout 4: it's a good game, but not a good Fallout game <<less

The MC is a sad*st and the teacher is a masochist and yep... It goes down exactly like how you think.

I had to drop that immediately because I could not handle it at all. I was expecting something more wholesome.

First I'm sorry if make any grammatical errors.

I don't know what to say to people who say Iroha (Main heroine) is annoying and b*tchy except narrow minded and s*upid.. Like seriously they're all (the readers) just saying that bcus of what MC saying to her. She is annoying but not b*tchy and she's a likeable character. She is the one who makes this novel cheerful and interesting. The MC said that many women hated him maybe bcus he is boring and all but only Irohi interested in him bcus she... more>> said "Senpai is interesting". I don't mind if that girl become my girlfriend bcus she will make my life more cheerful and interesting also honest and stay true to herself. MC is okay his characteristic is complicated. Idk what is his thinking. And his thinking is "no sane person would keep on annoying the person they like". What seriously? For me that type of annoyance is not hatred. She just be her true self to the person she loves that's all. She is annoying so = bad? She is kind hearted and likes to tease the senpai she loves that's all. MC has the same mentality (not really the same but almost about YOUTH) as Hikigaya Hachiman (Oregairu) but different actions and interests also physical appearance. Hikigaya's monologue is more interesting, and I can agree with him also his growth is real interesting. Iroha is a main factor that will give him character growth to change his mentality about youth and it will become fun for him. Also there's no humans that's not annoying in this world

The plot and setting is pretty mediocre or general at best buuut the execution of the plot itself is so gooood, the flow of it felt natural, the characters development are visible, and most of the supporting characters are likeable and they really do support the MC plus, MC is likeable too a bit of an uptight and self depreciate like the MCs of oregairu, seishun, and hyouka but clever/smart/witty and its becoming a little bit of common but hey! Its still working and the execution is the most important... more>> here and the author is nailing it so far and author of seems like a genuine likeable person too! <<less

I am so glad that this is the first ever novel that I read and actually liked.

I love how the story goes around Akiteru and the rest of the 5th floor alliance, I received the same vibes as Saekano and I love it! Even though some of the scenes are predictable and cliche, you just can't help to read and see how it turns out.

Love everything in this novel.

... more>> The kind of romcom that I never knew I would want.

I wanted some cute slice of life romcom with an interesting MC, and that's exactly what I got. It's also the kind of harem I like, with a dense but capable and non timid MC, and a cast of interesting girls.
