No idiot MC. No obsessive and possessive ML. Our couple gets together fairly early and there's not a lot of misunderstandings in the story. They face most of their problems together with "a shoulder to lean on when your tired and a hand to help you up when you fall" mentality. Not much parental drama, which was a nice change, and I love the MLs mom. There's a little drama and a few problems or there wouldn't be much to the story but over all it's simple, sweet and unpretentious.... more>> This was particularly relaxing since the last story I read was turns out I'm crazy. this is a good novel to help you decompress. <<less

This story is a welcome change from the BL tropes of insta-love and obsessive, sometimes abusive characters. Instead, the characters are relatable and sympathetic. Their feelings progress naturally and they seem their age, although the MC is mature from his experiences. This is a delightful slice of life story with a realistic but intriguing plot. Additionally, the translation is very smooth and readable.

Love love love this story with all my heart. Found it through the audio drama and decided to give the original text a go, and although the adaptation does a wonderful job, there's just something about the author's soft and nostalgic writing style that tugged on my heartstrings.

The pacing took some getting used to (big time jumps), but it makes sense if you think about how the story covers their high school years, university years, as well as professional lives in just 50 short chapters. Overall, each chapter felt like... more>> chronogical snapshots of the characters' lives and as a reader you're flipping through their photo album and reading the captions (haha).

Overall, very sweet read, absolutely recommend for folks who like cute slice of life stories! <<less

highly recommended! The story is realistic, no ML is super rich and MCs are naive and whiny. MC and ML friends are also good! Ah a very beautiful and strong friendship. Finally I saw a school novel where the character had a job. But there is one that sucks, why do many like ML? Even though the MC is handsome too ?! Ah, I want the MC to have a chaser too!

It's a quiet, simple, wonderfully written story about two boys going through high school and university together. I was looking for something like 撒野 (SAYE on novelupdates), and this book hit a similar spot. Xie Meng and Ji Qinyang love each other in an uncomplicated way. There's no grand declarations of love or unnecessary drama, but a soft kind of love that grows after being with the other person and caring a lot for them. It's not to say that the story is boring or that there aren't plot complications... more>> -- it's more that the protagonists deal with them maturely and without making a bigger deal of it than they really should. And throughout it all there's a feeling that they know the other person would be there with them no matter what, so the unshaking faith and trust in each other was very sweet to read.

There is also familial love and friendly platonic affection and those are also quite sweet. But most significantly I loved the way the author described and wrote their story in Suzhou (and Beijing later on). It's really clear that she's familiar with the place, and the entire story is basically an ode to Suzhou and living peacefully there. (There's the impression that it isn't that big a city, but I think it's a fairly large one in reality. Though, the quiet town feeling is still there.)

All in all, it's a really well-written story with realistic characters and a kind of soft, careful feeling about it. (It was the book that got the closest to the feeling I had when reading 撒野, which was amazing.) <<less

i enjoyed reading this... I pictured the entire thing like one of those indie movies, a rough cut of an entire film. the characters are actually quite endearing; 49+1 was probably a bit short to flesh everything out, but it was a great read

Reading this made my heart so warm. No unnecessary drama or dog blood, just two boys falling in love and supporting each other through the hardships of life. I feel so emotional after finishing.

MC is a smart, hardworking student who had to transfer schools because of a scandal in his middle school, and ML is a musical genius who is not good at studying at all haha! The two of them complement each other so well, the love building between them felt so natural and so sweet.

I especially loved how... more>> accepting and loving ML’s mom was to MC. The family and friend relationships in this were as beautiful as the romantic ones. I’m so sad it’s over, the two of them have touched my heart in a way that few stories have. <<less

Definitely one of the novels I truly enjoyed reading ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. It's a light read and highly recommended! The story revolves around 2 ordinary students—no over-the-top wealth or obsessive love. Just two young people who genuinely fall in love. It beautifully portrays their daily struggles as students and their journey into the real world as they begin their careers. Their love for each other is so pure that you'll find yourself wishing for that kind of love.🥹 They are incredibly sweet and supportive of each other.

Sweet story and lovely couple without drama, but after half of the story, I lost my interest in the main couple and I was following the second couple to see how they are going to solve their misunderstanding, but unfortunately it was completely disappointing and the author did not pay much attention to it.

I really liked Kang's character, but his story was really s*upid. How can you be with your girlfriend for 7 years, but you have never seen a picture of her or had a video or even a phone call with her, only writing letters to her and such a character suddenly transforms and turns into a photographer of war zones, he will not survive a day with such intelligence.

I like the OP's characters, but how is it possible that only this group of friends in the whole school is always first, whether in terms of science, sports, appearance or height?

This is the first time I'm writing a review on this website but I just had to.

This story is so good, and I love all the characters to bits!! The MC and ML's relationship is literal goals huhu. Every chapter just made me so happy and I was overwhelmed with fluff and I loved it. It's a shame that the translations stopped at chapter 26 but I don't mind, it's such a sweet story so its worth my 5 stars here. If you love fluff and sugar, you should definitely... more>> read this!! <<less

Gorgeous story. I can understand why this one is getting an official English translation, because it's almost like an actual literary novel.

Sadly, I seem to be the type who likes cheap fluff and action better. I loved the couple and the side characters, but there seemed to be unnecessary drama. Kind of weird to say when this was basically slice of life and barely had any drama. It was all very realistic, but I think it might have been a little too realistic. Like in their group of around 8... more>> good friends, basically every pair had a tragic story. Death is a very prominent part of the characters' backstories, which always makes me sad. There are a lot of large time skips later in, which can be a little jarring especially in comparison with the timing/speed in the previous chapters. MC is smart but is a little low on the EQ side. ML is pretty solid and perfect overall. This review is seeming a little weird and disjointed, but I just find it very hard for me to seriously enjoy this novel. I love the fluff and their relationship, but sometimes I was just like damn this is too cheesy for me. I don't even know why. I love cheesy fluff and super attached and loving couples. Maybe because they kept trying to be super eloquent and moving? I'm not sure. A beautiful story nonetheless, and doesn't shy away from smex between the MC and ML. <<less

This story is just that, a story. I don’t really get where it’s going, but it’s probably coz real life is like that. There aren’t really a lot of villains, no hard face slapping. There are sad moments too. The story doesn’t really focus enough on the MC and ML, it’s also about friendship and family. While I find it a bit relatable, it’s also a bit unrealistic in which in a group of boys, most of them are gay. Only 1 is straight, smh. Oh well, I’m not one... more>> to talk, there are 4 of us siblings and only 1 of us is straight. So maybe it is realistic? Haha. Anyway, it’s a good read for a change of pace. It only has 49 chapters but some chapters are quite long. But overall, it don’t find it interesting enough. <<less

The plot had great potential but I do think the author completely wasted it. It felt really superficial, like the novel glossed over everything as if I were watching a fast-forwarded rerun of their lives. The writing was fairly standard so it wasn't hard to read, but the plot was lacking. It's an easy read if you're just looking to kill time but I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything substantial.

I don't really get the high rating, especially compared to real masterpieces on NU...

Reading it feels unsmooth, as if the lines were taken from manga scenes, doing little to compensate the lack of images. I also don't understand how people can say it's realistic at all. Do we live in the same world?

(spoilers not too spoilering)

Where are the pretty shoujo martial artists with gentle personality, super smart brains and grandmothers who can kick asses? Where are the super tall beauty boys, both strong and graceful, with petty girlfriends left and right that they don't even like? What about the rich, handsome, smart aristocrat boys who fake being a girl to woo a cute dude they never met? And every boy friend is gay with a male interest? Realistic? Really? I think "realistic" should be reserved for awesome works like SAYE, like Orange Storm or Four'O Clock Flower.

[collapse]

I get people being biased on some works they have seen in another format bit at least use adjective that are actually suitable.

I didn't hate it but reading:

1) I haven't understood much, they don't really explain, even of the main plot or when the character's past comes to knock on his back. They don't explain the reason behind decisions taken, which if the characters bloom naturally you wouldn't even need but if they do something that doesn't fit their personality and don't back it up with reasons, it just feels unnatural.

2) it doesn't have much depth, the shifting of scenes feels as forced as the development of each relationship, its overall too disjointed and superficial. Of plot and meaning.

3) the writing is weak in a way that the scenes portraied don't give enough to fill the gaps of what is omitted...

This is what I think, take what you want and decide, anyway the best way to convince yourself is by trying it out.

[ I usually spare myself of low rating works I didn't like but 4.6 on 5.0? I have many works so gorgeous that I re-read them every year rated lower than this, for which I cried hours, giggled for days or passed weeks as a depressed bum, and seeing this just hurts my soul.

Let me be petty and biased too then, ok? ] <<less
