Great novel. Love the interactions between the MC and ML. Surprisingly, this MC is a gong instead hahaha. And this gong is somewhat timid and 'afraid' of horror encounters? So I especially enjoyed reading this reverse charm part of the novel. Makes it unique haha.

A very nice light read. I love the way it ended.

It's about a face-saving, rich second generation, Wei Fuyuan, who was kicked out by his parents because he accidentally slipped out that he was gay.

Since his card was frozen, he needed work to earn money.

Then there comes Bei Quan, a taoist master who urgentlt need an assistant.

Wei Fuyuan came in timely just after the former assistant left and resigned.

Being Quan communicate with people with connections to ghosts, thru broadcasting.

It was actually interesting when they tell us where they got the inspiration in the arcs.

Recommended if you like supernatural story with a bit of comedic undertone. <<less

The story has been a lot of fun to read so far! The mysteries in each arc are well written. They each take inspiration from either a real life event or existing ghost stories, but they are their own unique case with often times a sad ending for those involved. The type of Hui Gui the protagonists face in each arc are also diverse, along with the situations the Hui Gui either create or are involved in, so the story for me at least has not gotten boring or reached... more>> a lull. So far the story mainly focuses on the inhabitants of Sāntúchuān with most other characters only appearing for one arc. I tend to like stories that also focus on the main characters' relationships with side characters as well. However, even without this, the novel has been engaging so not a major con. Thankfully, the new characters introduced in each arc each also had their purpose in the story, and many of them don't just exist to be annoying.

I'm currently reading the arc based off of the Winchester House in CA. Here, the author explained that the novel's mansion was built in such a complex and confusing manner to trap a god in the villa so it could continue to give the mansion owner good luck for his business I think. It's been a while since I read about the Winchester House, but I found the novel's idea fascinating because it parallels a theory that Sarah Winchester renovated her house in such a way (confusing hallways, doors that open out to the outside wall of the mansion, stairs that lead to dead ends, etc) to make it impossible for certain ghosts to find her.

The romance is rather slow burn, but if you're looking for a good horror mystery novel I genuinely recommend giving Thriller Night Talk a try. <<less

Tbh whenever I see the “Seme Protagonist” tag; my enthusiasm to read would drop quickly (I’ll still read it though) since most of them don’t really feel any different from the regular, “straight” stories. But this was surprisingly good so far and I would love to read to more (even if I was spoiled😅).

Thought this was a great story. Even the extras, which are usually something that I have no interest in were a nice touch with some extra mysteries and bringing back old characters.

I thought that the MCsbig enthusiastic dog personality was a great foil for the MLs sly, world weary fox. It created lots of opportunities for humor.

I also thought the premise, of the radio station for haunted people calling in was quite interesting. I thought the author did a good job of building on that starting point and branching out... more>> the spiritual world in small ways.

I also thought it was a neat surprise how the big bad was dealt with (no spoilers) I quite enjoyed how that was dealt with.

Then there were the little touches, where in a world where actions are good and evil, some people thought they were good and some bad people got a good ending so it was still gray in the end. Together with the fact that the author managed to keep the humor going until the end, that bit of lightheartedness, kept the story from getting too dark and made it a delightful read.

Definitely give this one a try! <<less

My thoughts on this Novel:

I’m not really into the gongs being immature and Naive, etc and being used like that ya get me. But I’ll see how it goes. Currently I do feel bad for MC since he’s basically getting used and It’s giving weird vibes rn but oh well we shall see if it’s good. BQ is like a sly fox and WF is like a cute husky - OHH ITS CANNON

I like how our ML Shou is not like most ML Shou I have ever read in Action/Adventure Setting. He wasn't painted as 'Strong' nor 'Weak'. All his strength came from his Long Experience and Knowledge. He wasn't Cold, aloof or Distance. He wasn't Arrogant or Tsundere. He like to tease MC, but he also constantly like to think MC is really good person and not because MC's past merits=power.

For the Adventure plot, when I said ML is not painted as 'Strong' nor 'Weak', because we will constantly see him... more>> being worried if he his power would run out or if the Opponent was too Strong or Troublesome. While MC was also not painted as Strong, he also wasn't Weak. He has the Spiritual Gold Merit thing and he also know Martial Arts, so he wasn't Defenseless. The point is our Couple are not Power Couple but they also are not Weak or Messy Couple.

By the way, For the Romance; There's no MC started to like ML first or the opposite. I think from the way I see it, they develop their feeling toward each other around the same time. Like seeds that planted around the same time and grow slowly but surely. But MC was the one who aware and accept of his feelings first while ML was in slight denial because his identity.

Anyway this novel so far sooo Gooood!!!!

The Slow Romance wasn't as Slow as I feared. The Characters are Lovable and Enjoyable. The Horror plots all are Intriguing so far. The Development between our CP are sooo Good!!!

I'm Totally LOVING IT!!! Pray the translation would keep going til complete! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 <<less

Honest rate: 4.7 to 4.9 so it's alright to give it a 5 stars.

How to put it? Hmmm.. Tbh I really don't mind reading novels with seme protagonist or not, as long as the story is good I'll finish it then I'll rate it. Simple as that. But I don't blame some readers who preferred to read novels where the ML/seme is too OP or too brave and doesn't afraid to face anything and would do anything to protect their boyfriend or husband/wife, but reading ML like our young Master... more>> Wei here is like a fresh air, plus Bei Quan is not too OP too so it's like reading a horror-BL genre where both protagonists have to encounter difficulties and must solve it together and not just one person doing the job. The ML might not be so brave but he's brave enough to fight against evil ghost/spirits even if his bf/master is not around to guide him, brave enough to learn how to protect himself, brave enough to help others although he's not that too powerful too. So I really don't mind having ML like young master Wei. The phasing of the story is a bit slow but cozy enough to continue reading about those cases especially those scenes right after the airing of the radio program. I actually want to listen to such program lol maybe that's why I listen to Kowabana: True Japanese scary stories on Spotify lol I'm using it as lullaby, maybe you would also want to try lol anyways, I'd like to thank the translator/s and the author for sharing this story with us. Keep up the good work. <<less
