In order to stay within his budget, newbie director Zhong Jiudao rented an infamous haunted house as his filming set. For many years, nobody had lived in the haunted house, but it was inhabited by plenty of evil spirits from the last century. They gathered behind Zhong Jiudao, wanting to teach a lesson to this human who had stepped into their territory. But who could’ve thought that Zhong Jiudao, completely unperturbed, would take out his movie script and read it aloud to the occupants of the haunted house?

Ghosts: Huh? If we substitute ourselves into the role of the ghost in the script, it actually feels… pretty cool!

Putting away his script, Zhong Jiudao asked the group of ghosts: Anyone interested in shooting a movie? I’ll pay the salary by burning joss paper*.

Ghosts: What kind of movie is it?

Zhong Jiudao: A movie about the satisfying revenge of a ghost.

The ghosts scrambled to raise their hands: Me! I want to do it!

Zhong Jiudao: You guys have to audition for the roles, line up here for the screen test.

(*Joss paper, also known as ghost or spirit money, are papercrafts made to emulate money that are burnt as offerings for the dead.)

A fresh graduate from an acting school, Z-list actor Luo Huai took on a supporting role in a horror movie. Although the filming crew was lacking in budget, the director had a good personality and the staff was kind. The senior actor who played the role of the ghost had great acting skills and was very dedicated, patiently giving him pointers during filming.

Senior Ghost: This won’t do, you have to act more convincingly. If you can’t do it, how are you going to trick those humans into your territory?

Luo Huai: Huh?

Senior Ghost: I mean—you can only convince the audience with your acting if you give a genuine performance.

Luo Huai: Thank you, senior! You’re so nice!

A light-hearted supernatural entertainment industry story. Pairing: Zhong Jiudao (gong) X Luo Huai (shou). Celestial master slash movie director who uses ghosts as free labor X actor who was born with a constitution that easily attracts ghosts.

Loved this!

I’m usually not a fan of ghost stories but I really liked the twist that the author does here with the ghosts working in the entertainment industry and I also appreciated how the ML treated the ghosts fairly. He wasn’t prejudiced against them and when they weren’t harmful ghosts he just let them roam/helped them fulfill their grievances and pass on. I also liked how well developed the characters of the main ghosts were. I liked that they had distinctive personalities and backstories and it didn’t ever feel like... more>> “here’s the ghost of the week” situation like some other ghost stories. It’s so rare to see ghost characters that experience character development too and it was fantastic.

I gotta say though between the ML and MC I relished the MC a little more because he was honestly so cute? I loved that he was so optimistic and hardworking and how adorably clueless he was to the weird and clearly supernatural things that were going on around. His misunderstandings were hilarious and even funnier was how he kept inadvertently hurting the ghosts who tried to trouble him.

Him and ML were so good together. Even though the MC caught feelings quite early on I just wished the main couple confirmed their relationship sooner so we could get even more fluff. <<less

MTL-ed this some months ago, and mind you, THIS. IS. MASTERPIECE.

Spoiler

The way the protagonist just casually collect the ghost in the mansion and lock them up in his pocket cus they keep making many mischief were so hilarious.

You need to see how desperate they are to escape from the mansion and MC's hand. Even if they ended up failed and beaten up black by MC's own hand.

Also poor that one ghost girl, who always appear innocent (but no, no ghost is Innocent here but most of them are victim, sealed up in the mansion by a taoist at the 20th century), she carry her baby's soul in her body (one of the reason why he's one of the strongest ghost in the mansion, cus he carry 2 soul in her), and need to separate the baby from her body and let the baby reincarnated to one of the baby in the hospital.

Also, I didn't expect the MC to be some kind of reincarnation of gods (?), that's why he could just wrote spells in air with his brush (which is he born with it, and could be called out with his spiritual power, also formerly only came out in a modern pen format) and torture the final boss without mercy even other taoist master pity him

I also love the character progress, especially the ghost, one by one finally solved their unsolved problems and reincarnated.

Of course the love story between the MC and ML can't be left out.

Had to Mtl since this has just been pick up by a translator. Thank you for picking up this wonderful book, if not I would never know this book exist.

MC is super cute and ML is quite dense sometimes. However it's a great story told. I feel it's a complete story as they explained everything and didn't leave a hanging story.

Its good, not quite what I expected and could have used a whole lot more romance and maybe the main character being actually in the important scenes but overall the comedy was good and the plot was interesting.

Hilarious and a little bit like a sit-com, I spent 150-ish chapters laughing to myself while reading this novel. While it's definitely a novel that entertains, some parts of it can be a hit or miss (the way it's written). Sometimes the perspective switches too far back when it goes to another person - we don't need to know what they're doing when x was doing y. Some of it is cumbersome to read, and some scenes between the CP can be abit dull and repetitive towards the end. I... more>> recommend gisting if you can't handle it, but the novel is simple and pretty easy to read (plot and stuff) !

Also it does feel abit off when the ghosts are considered to constantly be at odds with the protagonists, even when theyre in the same camp (frenemies). I think this made things feel abit unpredictable (to me!), but I'm thankful the author kept things light-hearted. If it was a siege from all sides (in a serious way), I would've cried.

Overall, this novel is fun, light-hearted and funny. It doesn't go on for more than 2 movies, but it's mostly focused on the CP (developing) with a side dash of business and ghosts. Family also contributes to the hilarity. Nothing to worry about, this isn't a novel where the MC has to fight hard, but he's already pretty strong. Just be patient if you can! <<less

A fantastic story that is full of joy, thrill, action and romance. I loved each of the characters, especially the 33 ghosts. Each of them had were unique and each of them got a good resolution. The ML and MC are both good; though the MC feels a little silly at first, but he is not and is quite smart. I also loved the interaction between him and the ghosts.

Just a word of caution; be ready with a box of tissues for the last chapter.

I will give 5 out... more>> of 5 for this. <<less

2.5-3. There's something disappointing about this, especially when you realize who the author is and how they could've wrote it better. The premise of this novel is incredible and so interesting. However, that's probably the only different thing because everything else reads like a basic entertainment novel, just with ghosts.

Pros: the MC is ok I guess. I like his vision and determination. He doesn't know all but he tries to keep the ghosts under control the best he can. The idea of a ghost entertainment group is fun. That's pretty... more>> much it.

Cons: the pacing omg. It's not terrible, but it just feels like it's too slow and just unnecessary details esp when those details arent even well described (more telling). It does feel like there is more telling than showing, esp after the first 17 chapters or so. The pacing and lack of critical interesting events is the biggest thing too. It feels very linear and like I'm on a train and I know why what's coming up and why that. Happened bc it'll take me where we're going. It doesn't help that, when you really think about it, besides a couple ghosts, do any of the characters, even the MC to some degree, feel like they have a real personality? The MC has the most personality. The ML is just a stereotypical soft marshmallow boy. And everyone else (human) is a bit annoying imo. It's not particularly funny (never laughed) nor is it scary nor is it exciting nor is it mysterious nor is it wholesome nor is it cute. Its just a good idea with a mediocre execution.

Tbh, if you like basic entertainment novels, I think you'll probably like this. Otherwise, it's just moving slightly boring. I dropped it. At best I think people can enjoy this but I don't want to waste my time. <<less

My rating: 4 - 4.2 stars

I came for the comedy, and I am not disappointed; actually, I was worried if there would be not-very-appropriate-jokes about controversial topics (pretty commonly seen in Chinese novels, from my experience,), but aside from some bashing of Western exorcism, there's no crossing the line, and it's still gives good laughs.

There's no noticeable plot hole, and the storyline is coherent and interesting enough, with some "little twists". I also appreciate that the side characters are decently created - they have their own personas, seem "alive", and... more>> not just 2D background props.

IMO, this novel doesn't really have anything bad to say about, but also, the plot is not very outstanding either, so yeah, a little bit over 4 stars is what I've decided on.

Oh, and let me add this, although the romance is sweet, it's pretty light and also a very slowburn (if you ask me, I would say it makes sense according to the plot, as the gong is pretty much oblivious about feelings
Spoiler

because due to the nature of things that a celestial master would have to face, since very young, he has trained himself into totally ignoring feelings

[collapse]
). So, if you are looking for heavy romance, this might not be for you.

Also, as the story doesn't just revolve around the protagonist alone, please be prepared to see some important plots taking place without the protagonist being present. TBH, I feel that it's more logical and makes more sense this way, but some people might prefer to see more presence of the protagonist... to each their own.

In conclusion, give this a try for some good laughs and to lighten up your heart; I think you won't hate this even if you didn't particularly love it. <<less

It's a good light reqd with lots of humor and funny characters. Even the most side character have a satisfying role.

The modern and traditional elements merging in this story is a very positive line.

I just miss more intimacy between the main CP
