I liked the author's previous work "I have an mansion" one despite it's many many many faults, and hope this one will be better.

Tech uplift was the main draw there.

binged in 2 days, won't be disappointed. It's a slow build-up first then it gets better every chapter. I think the closest novel is shepherding humanity which is also a good novel in the first 100-150 chaps

Con; a little bit too much scientific term but not too much to ruin the flow

MC: decent rationality, not a harem master yet still admired not too op latest chapter his ... more>>
Spoiler

"strength stat is equal to top player"

[collapse]
"Player": no cannon fodder idiot, they act regular gamer would and sometimes went beyond, a favorite gamer is jun jun, ya ya* the mushroom dealer
"NPC": they're so many varieties gawd I think my favorite so far is the weapon shop NPC and bank retailer (used their title cause I want you guys to be surprised)
World-building: I think this is the best part of the novel, also the best one I've read so far. I think the allies and enemies faction is well written, animals and location is neat

I like the balance of the three major "factions"
MC manager can beat the players by kicking them, player can beat NPC cuz no perma-death, NPC can beat manager cuz he only one life

But the MC manager can't abuse them too much the player because they will leave the game. Players cannot abuse the NPC for the manager will kick them. And NPC can't defeat the MC manager since he gonna mobilize the player to protect him.

Still MC manager still holds the advantage especially with the language barrier he can scam the player and the npc. <<less

Genre :

Dystopian

Cyberpunk

Wasteland

Post-apocalyptic

Mangement

Slice of life

Loyal subordinates

Things to note / interesting tidbits:

The players due to a 'dream filter' don't register the 'game' as reality ... more>>
Spoiler

however in later chapters players begin to form bonds with 'npc's

[collapse]

Spoiler

some players are (by chance) assigned 'characters' with non human characteristics

[collapse]

Sometimes side characters aren't mentioned for long periods of time

The author updates daily

In later chapters (300+) I find some plot points wayyy to coincidental for comfort (however this is minor and will likely be fixed in time)

The players are very reckless due to their 'immortality' though not too much as they have to wait 3 days before they can login again

The players discussing the game on the forum is often humorous

Misunderstandings:

I recently saw a review from someone saying that there was time travel in the novel. This is incorrect, early in the novel it is explained that the world that the 'game' takes place in is parallel to the world the players live in. This review also complains that the MC is creating the shitty 'future' by depriving the 'past' of scientific minds. While this is slightly disproved by correcting the time travel misunderstanding I felt it necessary to elaborate. The parallel worlds seem to have a 12 hour time difference, night in China is day in the 'game'. Not to mention that the device works by putting the player's body to sleep and moving the player's consciousness to the clone's body. In this way the average player's daily life goes unimpeded by the 'game'. Another 'flaw' that review mentions is how easily the MC leaves behind his life in his orginal world. Again very early in the novel its mentioned that the MC zero attachment to that life (no parents, no friends, and no love intrest) he was an average corporate s*ave that died of a heart attack (I can't remember clearly and will confirm later) and was unwillingly chosen by the former vault 404 manager. I feel like that person read a completely different novel or didn't actually reread to try and clarify their Misunderstandings before writing a review!!!

NOTE:

- I will make this more coherent later, for now please make do with subpar explanations

- I really like this novel and hope others will too so I'll do my best to clarify any and all misunderstandings I see in the review section

- I apologize if anything is inconsistent/ incoherent <<less

So far it's alright. A lot of technical mumbo jumbo though which is minus in my opinion, but overall it's nice read. Flow is ok and translation is excellent, plot is still wait and see what it becomes so far it's just slice of lifey in post apocalypse...

This isn't bad. The core content is interesting- some of the other aspects of character and plotting are pretty forced. Not 5 stars, but a novel angle...

The Good:

  • Some plot elements are seemingly thought out.
  • Science seems to be accurate- I'm not gonna check his work to make certain (though some authors rely on this).
  • Some aspects of 'gaming community' are representative and done well.
The BAD:

  • The main plot mechanic, goal, and method are magic, secret, and shitty (in that order). This may make all the rest less enjoyable- especially since a lot of the other characters are more human than the MC.
  • So much forced plot. The whole community are treated as slightly more than plot puppets as well.
    Spoiler

Everyone acts as expected (even whole groups share convenient behaviors) unless the author want's to make an example of them.

    [collapse]
  • So much ignored plot.
    Spoiler

Not sure why he abandoned his other home while simultaneously leaving trouble for his kind neighbors (and potential future wife (not really of course-- 'on rails' I said))

    [collapse]
  • Subtle plot armor everywhere.
    Spoiler

The MCs vaguely antisocial 'determination' in a world pretty much depicted as 'cannot survive alone' s telling of the author's attention span and awareness of future actions (the the MC should want to play it safe in case things go very wrong. Lots of vaguely 'the author knows where this is going, so the MC can safely do this thing. Other times he ignores potentially problematic things (One player going of and causing trouble contrary to order) which (in other cases) could bring disaster to the 'commune'

    [collapse]
  • The 'manipulation' dynamic, along with somehow needing to sustain 'proof of title' (somehow no one even suspects their experience is somehow not a 'game') - proves much of the above, and makes the story a bit less palatable. The worst thing is it's pretty much unnecessary.
    Spoiler

Given how much unexplained 'magic' is involved in getting players into the 'game'- he could have told them almost anything else closer to the truth instead- and still got the same (possibly even better) results. Matter of fact- not telling them for so long (and treating them as idiots) should only backfire- but 'plot on rails'. Worse- the players can't really die- but the MC can. Pissing off people who think 'this is a game', and 'everyone can respawn in 3 days' (or whatever) is really not the brightest idea if your doing 'gonna make players ragequit' level shittiness...

    [collapse]
  • A whole bunch of untouched issues with the amount of power is behind the MC that could have been used in better ways if the author made an effort.
    Spoiler

Off the top of my head, the system (or whatever) can get any information from the past (addresses of anyone starting with only their screen names) - which suggests that more useful information is being overlooked. It can 'time teleport' (I guess?) high tech directly into people's homes anywhere- which is odd since the MC's in a resource crunch pretty constantly... So much magic stuff. All that feeds back to the players, and the of benefits of 'payment via gifts' could be an incentive- but no- we are fine manipulating people to work for nothing through deception. Although the targeting of gamers seems reasonable- targeting various types of college students and professionals directly (via... maybe a fake simulation instead) would be far more productive. Not even going to touch the seeming 'time travel' dynamic, and how that's always bad/creates paradox, because we like that stuff anyway- though the slightest effort to 'explain away' such concerns should be made- otherwise their just 'making their own shitty future' by taking key people out of the 'present' (and shifting their life focus).

    [collapse]
The different:

  • Nothing really... 'The author's need to control via manipulation?' I guess? I suppose that's a thing.
Overall, it's worth checking out. Can't say for sure since I don't know where it's going, but it's an interesting mix of good & bad till it gets there...

I’ve paid to read ahead, I think this is one of the best things on this site

i will quickly say why:

1. It doesn’t rush the plot.
Events don’t happen one after another. Sometimes in other novels it feels like things just keep happening to the main character, while in this after the initial premise everything is rational and makes sense. It reminds me of Lord of the Mysteries in that sense.

2. Relationships feel sincere. Sometimes novels make it feel like characters are just plot devices. In this novel they feel... more>> organic, and the MC has to try to use what he can to motivate his people, to make them play their part. The process is very entertaining

3. Characters are intelligent. Friend or foe, you can understand why they act the way they do. MC couldn’t change it easily, it was only because he discovered the shelter that he had a chance. <<less

Had a lot of misgivings about this novel since it's from the same author of "I Have a Mansion in the Post-Apocalyptic World" (2014), a disgusting, nihilistic, pedophilic, torture-p*rn novel. I guess almost 7-8 yrs was enough time for the author to wisen up and realize nobody wants to read f***ed up cheap MadMax clones. The popularity of Fallout 4 (2015) and other similar kingdom-building novels (Release that Witch 2016, Legendary Mechanic 2017) since then probably helped him change his mind too.

4 out of 5 stars, assuming the pedophilia flag... more>> doesn't come true (underaged females, see below). The pace is kinda slow for the theme and the comedic undertones aren't all that funny, probably because it was never the author's forte. But I'm always a fan of the Fallout series.

PREMISE
An average Chinese salaryman is transmigrated into a post-apocalyptic world, essentially identical to Fallout 4.
He's somehow able to maintain an internet connection with Earth while "summoning" other humans in the guise of a game. With his newfound position, the protagonist has to find a way to exploit the players while uncovering the deeper mysteries of the world.

COMMENTS
1. World-Building
Decent, but let's be honest. It's not hard when author literally copied the entire world of Fallout 4... two-headed transport bison, Shelters/Vaults, all kinds of mutated enemies, to equipment and weapons building (exact same mods, Power Armor, etc). Author does expand a lot on the settlement building aspect, which was sorely lacking in the Fallout 4 game itself. That said, the leap in production capabilities seems a little too quick, all within a span of days. Even with the players access to Earth knowledge that's kinda unbelievable but hey it's a CN webnovel. Suspension of disbelief and all that jazz.

2. Character Building
The leveling-up mechanics for players seems somewhat cohesive. A blend of genetic and cyber technology.
The off-line shenanigans (for the players) adds an extra dimension to their backgrounds, dispositions and behaviors. From the chatgroups to their actual real-world lives. Helps ensure the MC isn't the center of the universe, which is always great diversity in a novel.

3. Flat comedy and relationships
Boring interactions between MC and the other NPCs. MC shows random one-off acts of kindness (medicine, candy, etc) and NPCs are devoted to him. That's.... totally unrealistic, especially for an apocalyptic world.
More of the same internet humor and name drop game-referencing CN novels are known for. Will probably be an issue for people who aren't familiar with the game references. You know the kind.
Spoiler

Oh the NPC looks like a familar game character! *squeal* Ugh...

[collapse]

4. Potential Pedophilia Flag
So author has a track-record of pedophilic novels. Just hoping it doesn't come to fruition, else this novel drops straight to 1-star.
Spoiler

There's a 15-16 yr old native hinted as a possible romantic interest. MC repeatedly states that he's not interested in underaged women. But that's the exact same piece of sh*t excuse the author last wrote for this tr*sh novel "I Have a Mansion" before that MC went straight on to scr*w her.

It's okay for a fallout fanfiction. There's a lot of references here and there that its almost a spitting copy of the newer games like 3, 4 and new vegas. Mainly it seems the story takes place in new vegas with the factions such as the brotherhood. The problem I find is that there's a bit of strong nationalism in place due to the fact the author basically aligns with their government in the other world when trying to sell technology in this one. Definitely strong against other countries like... more>> they always make other countries spy organizations seem incompetent <<less

First, I'd like to say that although some parts aren't perfect, this story is really good.

It's wordy sometimes, but I'm all eyes for that.

Spoiler

This is out of place but I needed to say this... I really really don't like He Ya...

[collapse]

The techological aspect is extremely broad and technology is also one of the main points of this story around this time.

This isn't an easy read, but it's easy to get yourself immersed in it. So I never understand why some people rate this low, because its either that they don't like sci-fi/kingdom-building stories, are a troll, or really just don't understand what this story is about.

Yes, MC is not a harem master, nor garners any sort of interest with girls, but sometimes the players have misconceptions and think their sleeping together.

Spoiler

ex: boss xia was too drunk so MC carried her to her bedroom I think, I skipped the rest of the chapter because it was just about the players saying they sleeped together and it made me mad:sob: I hate reading romance.. plus they think she's in love with him..

[collapse]

I read after 113 with MTL, but it wasn't very hard because "Old White" was "Lao Bai" and the player thats the enemy of girls yadayada is Ye Shi, and it doesn't use this player name.

(I mean I think Ye Shi is that guy..)

Anyways, the dialougue is smooth and characters emotions are always described clearly. Descriptions of battle scenes are well made, and I can even think of what the scene looks like immeadiately.

I rate this story 4.8 stars from chapter 210 and before that, and I hope chapter 210 and after that will be even better.

p.s the time is actually not as much as you think, their only in either october or november now, and I thought it was janurary or something 😭

edit: I saw a review "joking" about Yu Xiaoyu being MC's soon to be wife and I personally dont tolerate that, its not okay to be joking around about a minor being a fully grown adult's wife. what the f*ck. plus they aren't getting married. <<less

Rate: 4.8 at the start and 3.5 at the latter part (Boulder City and up)

This novel hit my go-to read novel. MC is the game's boss, a player, apocalypse, no romance or harem saving some beauty in distress, superior technology, a slice of life, and the reality on Earth.

This is one of the rarest where China is good, outside of China is bad. No s*upid high-ranking people act like young masters (In reality). MC and the player tandem trying to do better and make their life and 'playing time'... more>> enjoyable. Combining it with their daily life is one of the strongest values for me here.

But here is where everything changed; when they are doing a financial battle towards Boulder City.

Anything that I like disappeared, The player, and the MC mostly disappeared. The focus of the arc/story is some random poor and ignorant guy trying to do better and coincidentally maybe change the world (?). I mean it's not that bad but they never appear again after all that.

Theology, morally correct, and political battle. A light and easy theme become something heavy. The core story is now changing. Dialogue is weak and light, and comedy/jokes are overused and repetitive something that does not blend with the heavy themes even drama.

If it's going to be like this I would prefer they would never expand and just live their life. I mean, the player having a relationship with the NPC (even if I don't like it), them inventing things and foods, and adventure. Something game-like.

All in all, I am not even surprised at this point. The one who writes "Scholar's Advanced Technological System" and "I Have a Mansion in the Post-apocalyptic World". Both novels failed too at being political or heavy themes. I really like the scholar's advance until he returned to China and the other is too focused on XXX stuff while.

Just focus on slice of life and apocalypse, I am really a fan when you write a lighter story. Forget the heavy stuff that does not blend with a slice of life.

I think the rating will fluctuate when the English translation caught up.

Again (.)

Plot is really rich. MC is more or less a lesser version of a 'ends justifies the means'. His actions and choices depends on his goals or 'task' issued to him by the shelter. His attitude towards both players and npc is basically balanced. He sees the pros and cons of both group and leverages on it. For players, they can die just give them more rewards, for npc-aborigines he values their life more since they only have one life. But that doesn't mean he's the sympathetic type. It still... more>> depends on the value the aborigines can bring him. Though I'm actually just expounding on him being a utilitarian, he isn't devoid of emotions or sympathy. I suppose he recognizes the emotion there but just doesn't affect his major choices. the other characters, altho have their own unique drama, doesn't really interest me much. Yep they feel realistic and all and seem to have their own soul. But what interest me much is the possibilities that the plot opens up. The story starts from the MC being a salesman slash gamer hobbyist transmigrating to a post apocalyptic world with authority to provide access to his fellow gamers to come to his current world through a 'game interphase' or helmet like a vr game. By this point in the plot (best not read on if you don't want spoilers) the gov and other similar authorities all over the earth are coming to an agreement that the game itself is an alien's attempt to communicate with earthlings. I just wish the novel itself gets completed somehow. So I don't have to wait too long for new chapters as the story is still on going

The story goes through thrilling wartime then falls back to slice of life then back again. The pacing really satisfies me. key secondary characters are the natives forming mc's core group like Yin Fang Heya Xia Xiaoyu etc and the best performing players, Old Bai, Fang Cheng, Mosquito, and others. There's actually a lot of interesting players there. There's not much drama between players and alliance npc they are all very cohesive. <<less

This is actually a pretty good novel. The world setting is similar to Fallout and the MC is a guy who has to build a town from a Vault by recruiting players from the real world to "play" in his real life game.

The players would use the vault dwellers sleeping body to play and level up accordingly.

I would give this a really high rating if the release wasn't so slow. 2 chapters per month is barely better than abandoned.

Amazing until chapter 400ish. That's around the point when the story no longer has a personal touch. The MC basically fades into the background and you'll go like 20 chapters without seeing his name. In previous chapters, story used to be a bit about the MC and his AI, a little about different teams interspersed with reality and player goffing in the game forum. Now, the humor is completely gone. It's pretty much a team of boring players doing propaganda work andd politics with NPCs for 10 chapters, 5 chapters... more>> of NPCs doing whatever, then 5 chapters of MC's army bombing everything.

I feel that the story is somewhat like civilization. It's fun at first starting from a small village and growing larger. Once you climb the technology tree to the point when you get airships and start bombing things, that's when everything gets boring.

With that saying, the first 300 chapters are amazing! <<less

Honestly, overall, it's a lot better than many series on here.

PROS:

  • interesting premise + setting
  • well developed general story arches / plotline
  • good world building
CONS:

  • 1-dimensional, repetitive characters having same boring dialogue
  • repetitive story progression (get new soldiers, surprise enemy who underestimates ML, rescue ppl from mistreated villains, woah town gets larger)
  • bad, boring writing that summarizes too much
  • a lot of bad "science" filler that takes up too much of each chapter
Basically, this is great to read for a couple hundred chapters, but it gets old by ch 400 or so.

Translated well, unique premise and interesting details on world building. Most importantly the MC isn't a saint who defend the weak and forgive the sinner, or an anti hero character who despises the world, family, and random passerby. No faceslapping or revenge plot, which is very good. There's gaming element, but the MC as NPC was transmigrated hence the best of both world. I personally love how the story progresses, and would recommend it 100%.

This novel can include in "Misunderstood" type novel at my first impression reading this novel.

I like this novel because it's not like Chinese novels in general Which usually seems hyperbole and always repeats sentences so that the novel seems long and heavy.

From my point of view, this novel is fun because of the element of misunderstanding, not to heavy, not boring because Repetitive word & sentences and of course "Game" element. This Novel 5/5 for me.
