Currently when I write this review, this novel has really good rating, I thought this is wierd because even though it have only few chapter 72 out of the 90 people rate this novel 5.0 and because there's no update on my waiting list I try to read this novel, turns out it really good.

A world without super powers is boring. That's the premise by which the whole story works.

As it turns out, a world with super powers is still very boring to read about. The characters are boring and cliche, the MC is boring, unmotivated, and indecisive, and the plot is non-existent. That last bit is why I ended up dropping it. 3 volumes in, and the MC still has to create his own plot, which is a damning thing. A main character exists as a window for readers to self insert, and... more>> to do so that character needs to feel immersed in the world. In this, the main character is less akin to a main character and more akin to a DM for a tabletop game which we don't get to play.

Boring 2/5, go read To Be a Power in the Shadows instead. <<less

It's not a bad novel or anything but I intensely dislike the main character. I dislike the way he handles himself, I dislike his decision in life and I intensely dislike how he has use his powers so far in the novel. I just don't like how he does anything in life.

He discovered his powers and besides training it up (which I approve of), he has done nothing with them. The explanation is that he was afraid of the "famous tax"" and people judging him. Huge minus in personality wise for me there. He even spent time in an office job that he allegedly hates and receives abuses from his boss. When you are literally the strongest person on Earth and you still do 7 to 8 job while receiving abuse, that should tell you all you need to know about his personality. When he FINALLY decided to 'build' an organization, the first thing he did was to come clean to a random stranger purely because she is rich, pretty and a bit of a nerd. Like WTF, this novel is like a power fantasy without the fantasy.

tl:dr the MC is a cardboard box who lucks his way into superpowers and remains a cardboard box

I wonder why this novel received so much praise. I mean, it's not offensively bad but it's nothing if not boring. I thought it would be filled with hilarious gags and s*upidity that would make you laugh, but I've at most smiled a few times since the start. Not good at all in that way. Rather, the way it's written makes it somewhat tedious to read. It's pretty much all an inner monologue, a story told instead of shown. We did this, we did that, let's explain all the details... more>> but leave out any and all actions and proper interaction. The interactions are truly minimal, it's nothing but the MCs thoughts 99% of the time. It's truly a boring way to write it in.

Honestly, it's readable. But just barely. I ended up dropping it though, it just brought me no joy to keep on reading even after giving it plenty of chances. It did get slightly better after 10+ chapters but it was still painfully awkward to read. I can see lots of attempts at gags but nothing really strikes me as particularly funny, I just understand that it's supposed to be funny even though it's really not.

As we're always in inner monologue mode, it feels like it isn't a story being told, it's just one guy's thoughts about everything around him. It feels out of touch and just weird, kinda mechanic, you get what I mean? The pacing is just weird, jumping all over the place. It's not an adventure or proper gradual development, it's as if we're just told some overarching details, this happened and that happened, but we're not shown any of it, the cold inner monologue just tells us all of these facts. I feel like this is the pure opposite of immersion, instead I'm left with a feeling of detachment and absolute zero care for any of the characters, it even starts going into the minus area where I get fed up with them for being so dull. How am I supposed to care about the jokes and characters when the author can't even get me to care about the characters or events happening? How is it supposed to be amusing when everything is just an inner monologue? Sorry, but this just wasn't for me at all. I just find it ridiculous how it could get so much praise and such a high score.

I can't recommend this novel at all. It's the story of a boring man with a dull personality and an exceedingly s*upid setting. It's supposed to be ridiculous for comedy but it just ends up as being s*upid with no real comedy. For me, it's at most a 3.5/5 quality novel if we judge by novelupdates inflated scores, being readable but just not interesting or funny, but it somehow scores a ridiculously inflated score of 4.4/5 at the time of this review, which means it should be really good if we go by the score. Be it the score or reviews, most of them are misleading for this particular novel. Maybe some people can't stop laughing at this, but I truly fail to see what's funny about it. Not even one laugh out loud moment in so many chapters means the novel has no comedic value in my opinion, but going by the reviews, it's the most hilarious thing ever.

Just my fair warning, if you go into this, remember that it's all going to be the slow inner monologue of an average, boring guy with sad excuses for jokes and that it refuses to follow the rule of "show, don't tell". We're just told about everything that happens, it actually isn't a "real" story, it reads more like a dull diary. Even "real-time" interactions winds up being way more like chunks of exposition and explaining several paragraphs of the protagonists thoughts on various things, sometimes almost unrelated to the conversation at hand or way sidetracked, then a few more paragraphs beforoe another exchange of 2 sentences and then more paragraphs, rinse and repeat. It's even hard to follow what is happening at times since the author just tells instead of showing us, things just happen and we're informed that it happened or is happening in one or two lines of text. It's impossible to get immersed and the lack of immersion means lack of care for everything that happens. I feel that this is a huge flaw and that the novel is actually quite bad. Since novelupdates is all about inflation and exaggerated scores, I can't give it anything but a 1/5. A 3/5 novel would be readable enough to not make me feel like dropping it, a 2/5 would be dropped after I read more chapters, 1/5 is what I have to give a novel that I felt like giving up on after a few chapters and only managed to read 18 chapters of before tiring completely. The only positive part about it is that while boring, it wasn't offensively bad in any way. I usually end up pissed off by truly bad novels and then drop them out of sheer irritation, but here I just got bored to the point of not wanting to waste more time, but I don't feel any hate for the novel or its author because it was so damn bad, it was simply boring, nothing else. Perhaps you can give it a shot if the bad parts I've mentioned doesn't sound like bad parts to you. Perhaps you love inner monologue and this style of writing or you find the jokes as appealing to your sense of humor. 5 chapters should be enough to understand if you'll like it, things won't change drastically, things will keep on going with the same tone. <<less

Who among us haven't ever dream of getting Superpower?

To become involved in some Secret Organization or some Ancient Conspiracy?

Well the MC who do have Superpower find no such thing.

... more>> I can honestly said this is a kind of make sense approach of how a Normal human trying to create a Secret Organization.

He didn't want to create chaos, he didn't want to rule the world, he just want to live out his fantasy. And for this he find a like-minded people who share his goal.

In the end, this is a story of how one man trying to live his dream to live fantasy like world and at the same, granting a chance for other people to live their fantasy wish dream too. <<less

Honestly, this story has a very interesting premise - MC gains superpowers in the real world, but there is no one other than him with those powers. It has a lot of potential, even I myself can think of how to make a very interesting plot with that premise (for example if he lost someone important to him and then found out that he could give his powers to the other people and they gain different abilities than him, then he would try to create fake "justice" and "evil" organizations... more>> so that those people he gave his abilities to would be forced to develop their powers and then MC would take them away to become stronger and to find a person with "time travel" ability so that he could return back in time and save the one he lost, etc). But no. MC is a good guy to the core, he doesn't even use his OP abilities to earn or steal money, instead, he relies on a girl to support him financially, lol. He doesn't want there to be any kind of danger, so he doesn't give his abilities to evil people for them to be antagonists, instead, he just creates harmless monsters from rock and water. As a result, this is a story without bad guys, without any stakes, without any deeper motivation (other than his childish dream) or purpose. This is that makes it different from a similar story "To Be a Power in the Shadows" that I really liked. There, MC isn't normal Japanese beta-boy, this type of story doesn't work well unless the protagonist is a little bit evil and psychopathic. Even people he chooses to give his powers are absolutely ordinary and nothing special. No, he doesn't try to help bullied kids or those abused by their parents. He doesn't give his abilities to powerless so that they can have a normal life. MC gives powers to those who are as ordinary as he was without nothing bad or good happening in their life, people without challenges or purpose. Another problem with this novel is, as others pointed out, that the author "tells instead of showing". And even if at the prologue it works well, you got tired from this type of writing very fast. <<less

i don't know why some people still expect some fictional development when something fantasy-like came to MC. The title says "there was no secret organization to fight with world darkness so I made one", it's totally makes sense if there are ABSOLUTELY NO action fantasy for MC (except he is the one who make them for other people).

if you prefer something like The MC got supernatural power because there is a task from goddess or summoned with purpose to defeat something or when he got power because he want to be something, you absolutely wrong.

it's interesting how he interact despite having power that literally can destroy a star. I think his response is logical if you just give some, random bored people without a goal, a power without the purpose for that power and other people that have the same power. The MC doesn't want fame (which is typical beta japanese), he just want to have fun in fantasy like development with his superpower with simple purpose to defeat something or gaining something. In the beginning the MC want something simple like fantasy development come by itself because he get super power but then he realize his world doesn't have something like that and he is the only one with superpower. So he make the shadow organization himself and the monster himself because his world don't have anything like that. Thus he made the fantasy development for somebody else because he can't have fantasy development for himself.

sure the MC is bland, but what can you argue with, he is living a normal life during his lifetime without any hardship and something he really want to do (atleast until he got superpower). He doesn't have tragic past nor fateful encounter with someone. If you like The (Idiot) MC where he boast his ability and doing something so called justice because he don't like it (which is s*upid in my opinion) and the (s*upid) MC who think he is "genius" and do something s*upid because he got superpower which made him think the world revolve around him, then go search for something else. This is not for you. The MC maybe not the best MC but he is atleast a logical person with interesting thought and a good story if you like something like a normal logical person who want something fantasy-like without bothering or causing chaos with his power.

note : I honestly don't really like monologue story, but this is one of my exception. And I quiet enjoying this story. <<less

NU doesn't have comment section so I put it on the review. Seriously, NU really need to make comments section.

First some rants, I really don't understand the peoples that like to give bad reviews when only read few chapters.

Yes, you don't like the story. Yes, this is not your cup of tea. I get it.

... more>> But that doesn't mean you can just bashing the story. Have you ever help the author by buying their novels?

Or at least help the translators?

Or any of you even write a novel and have the courage to post it?

Read the stories and if you don't like it, leave it alone. Or go to the original page to give your opinion directly to the author.

This is not the place for keyboard warriors.

We like to read and we know what we enjoy after we read them ourselves. And so far I enjoy it.

So, this is my opinion. The story is good and develops with a pace that makes me feel that the author really enjoying writing this story. The OP MC is not selfish but trying to be one. The other characters also is fit in nicely with stories and not really following the trends with other same genres with overly glorified the MC and dense MC.

It's enjoyable and fun to read. But If you don't like it, stop read it and leave it alone.

Cheers <<less

This is a story about a man that got himself a supernatural power, believing someday he'll use it for the world peace, fight evil organization and such he train himself and turn him into something that even those three kingdom general from DW series turn pale in comparison.

The problem is there's no evil org, and he's probably the one and only guy with such power; making him frustated and finally came up with the idea of making the evil organization himself, while also make a good group to fight them

the... more>> writings are good, and the chapter is long, I haven't checked the translation quality but the raw is really good I wont be surprised it'll be published to LN just after reading a few 5 chapter back then. <<less

The plot made me read all of it. To my surprise it was really good. What I like the most in this novel is the MC power (not like to be a power in the shadows) as he does make an organization, he makes new friends and enemies (maybe in the future).

Despite being wacky and a pushover, I wish the MC was real.

First of all, he single handedly turned his Slice of Life light novel into a Spice of Life LN. (I'll be here all day, folks)

Second, for all of his misgivings, he is like a wish-granting fairy for people like me - who once desired an escape from reality, or a paranormal invasion in everyday life.

Finally, his ambitions are quite literally the polar opposite to All for One, in that he is making a Chuuniland all for his own... more>> satisfaction. If I had to put it to words, it's like having a really good fantasy author (re) write your reality. <<less

I can only say one thing, disappointing.

The premise was interesting, but in the course of reading the first arc everything went down, although the second arc improved this a little bit the third one just let me see the reality that was from the beginning. I will not give real valuation, but this would hardly stay with 3 stars.

I'll just say that, if you expect something serious (at least at a normal level) about how an organization is built, about how the MC strives to create the whole plot to... more>> give a purpose to that organization or how this may result in something which is actually greater than what even the MC expects, you are wrong.

This is like the The Simpsons meteor episode that evaporates in the end, what will keep you reading is the expectation but it will never come or it will come but at the level of a silly mockery. <<less

A very solid average. I want to enjoy it more but I really can't. It can be fairly boring and the characters are pretty average.

A personal pet peeve is that despite being OP, MC still has enough glaring weaknesses that he isn't actually all that OP. He's essentially a glass cannon

The translator is pretty good, though. Nice long chapters (which could be a reason why I struggle to stay up to date).

I thought, something will change, after meeting a heroine, however everything stayed the same. Only dialogue added.

The idea and the premise themselves are cool but the problem lay where the MC is too busy doing too many things that it become quite boring the more you read.

This resemble a lot like "To be the Power in the Shadow" but didn't really have anyone that could be called a "true villain". In the "To be the Power in the Shadow", despite the the villains was made up the MC, the villains does exist. Here though, he need to be almost everything that it become a bit of... more>> a drag.

On the other hand however, it does gives a new light to the way this kind of troupe could be used. But I hope that in the future, the repetitive troupe where the MC is the villain and the side protagonist at the same time can be reduced by introducing a "true enemies".

Would still recommend it for someone that like the anti-hero and power in the shadow troupe though. <<less

Unique, deserving an 4.3 - 4.6

The plot twist are on point, relationship with gov are OK

Should have added an arc between the last arc and the second last arc though

Powers used as it is, is also very well done

Good ending

Finally, the side chapter 'IF' was amazing!!!

The first IF chapter can even be made into another series even if it is expanded by a bit and can be a stand alone 5* oneshot

Usually, I don't really like reading JP novels like these because they reek of a wish fulfillment story where a bland JP guy becomes OP and surrounds him with a harem while easily dealing with any situation thrown at him.. "Lazy Dungeon Master" and death march gave me similar vibes to this novel, and they were both totally garbage.

However, after reading the reviews, I decided to at least give it a try. And well, it was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one (pun intended). It's a lot... more>> more slow paced and grounded in reality than I thought. The novel really puts in the effort in explaining how the MC developed and trained his powers, making it a sort of "pseudo-science, " if you will. And well, after his training period, he creates a fake "secret organization" that fights a great "evil" because he felt like it.

Well, I won't bore you with any of the details, but the plot progresses at a pretty slow, but enjoyable pace. New characters get developed and join into the fray, and the plot gets developed as well so as to not make it stale. Overall, it's not bad. The characters and monologue from the MC are definitely the charm points of the novel. After all, the plot is fine, but it wouldn't be interesting without some good characters being in it. I enjoy the developments of the plot because I find the characters fun to read about. As you progress through the novel, characters definitely get characterized and you get to know more about their personalities as a result of good dialogue and enough "screen time" for each individual character. Is it Overlord level? Of course not, but it's pretty good, and the cast is pretty small, even with the additions of a few characters here and there. Novels like these love to have throw away characters and antagonists that you frankly, don't care about since they're just there as a prop for the MC to vent his anger, find something to do, act as comedy relief in front of the MC. This novel doesn't really have any of those one dimensional throw away characters that don't get any characterization.

The plot is grounded in reality and isn't rushed, and all of the characters get developed one form or the other. As a result, you get a pretty decent novel. It's not perfect by any means. Like, the characters are all extremely convenient for the MC in his production of his secret organization, and all of them are eccentrics personality wise. This is explained away pretty reasonably and it's not really a plot hole, but the MC doesn't really run into any major problems as a result. Dialogue is also fine, but the world building is pretty choppy. It's not amazing by any means, but it's worth a try. <<less

Let me say it straight for you who is like me and decides on what to read based on the reviews:

This novel's protagonist (1st sper) doesn't possess the absolute will for a change (or is willing to break his way to his objective) so he, on his own way, tries to create his own secret organization behind the scenes. Simple no? It's the description and a resume of what we have until now. To be more specific I'll have to go for spoilers.

He discovers his powers, nurtures them for years, and (probably) becomes the most powerful being on the planet. Now, as an adult, he finally gives up on his search for a secret organization because he finally accepts there isn't one. So, for the sake of his (future) sper comrades, decides to create the organization.

How? Getting someone to back him with the money that also has the same dream as him and slowly gathering similar fellas to join him. I won't enter THE details because if I did where's the joy in reading?

    • Positive points
    • The pace is okay. Nor too fast, nor too slow
    • Characters aren't two dimensional and actually have some background
    • MC isn't a total beta
    • Negative points (mostly about the MC sorry guys)
    • MC shows some next level insecurity about his powers (and trusts strangers WAY too easily) [<may change later dunno]
    • MC does have his beta moments here and there but nothing too disruptive
    • This novel's naming sense can make a perfect sphere grow edges sometimes and produce laughs in others (not really a negative point but not positive as well)
I think it's too soon to judge it completely but you might as well give it a read. Starts out slow but has solid foundations. <<less

This novel is among my top 3 favorites. Many would be driven away from this novel because of the fact that the prologue is so long. It feels like the first few chapters are all apart of the prologue, and honestly its a bit tedious to read all of it. However all that buildup is worth it because it allows you to understand how things work on an equal level as the MC. One time I saw a review for this novel (i believe on a different site) that send... more>> something about this reading like a log and not an actual novel, and while I do agree that the start is like that, it gets way better.

Apologies for how bad of a review this is, its 4 am. I really only made this so I could say that the last person to made a review before me (xiazixin) was in fact wrong about "no loli" but they appear much later. <<less
