I was reincarnated into a game.

Without any compensation by the grace of the Goddess.

I was so moved by the grace that I even developed a faith that I never had before.

So I tried to live diligently and well…

But there are too many kids who cross the line in this Cyberpunk.

Deus Vult.

God Wills it.

It’s a crusade, Kids.

TL;DR, cyberpunk world with a kind but decisive MC, with a subtle but complex world setting and interesting characters.

It's damn well written. A refreshing take on the cyberpunk genre addled with a hint of magic, sorcery, and the supernatural. It makes for a familiar yet intriguing experience. To many who know cyberpunk, it's a fun read, and to those who don't know, a new world. The writing and translation are well done, laying out the fundamental rules of the jungle and thrusting the reader and the MC into it from... more>> the get go. The world building doesn't feel like a text dump because we are actively experiencing the intricacies of a cyberpunk society. Where all the evil is subtly laid out under the mattress that is the innocence of childhood and the beginning of the story. The MC, while seemingly a goody-two-shoes, in reality is a veteran in the genre, and not afraid to take decisive action if needed. He practices what he believes in, and puts his all to exercise his justice and faith. He's a good MC with a firm motive and likeable personality. The other characters themselves are nicely written too, where many are shrouded in their own yet-to-be-revealed mysteries, but all having their own quirks and characteristics that make them feel alive. Perhaps, maybe, the story feels a little generic and maybe even too similar to cyberpunk the game. But I appreciate it because it's a more Asian twist on a beloved genre and story template. The MC holds eastern values, and doesn't shy away from putting faith into action, but maintains his firm Confucian beliefs despite a world riddled with corruption and evil. It's not necessarily the freelance rag tag group of Mercs trying to make a living and get by, get rich or die trying; but more so heavily leans upon testing the MCs knowledge, love, and sense of self in a foreign yet familiar world. That, to me, is where the difference lies. Where in the western creations of cyberpunk focus on the externality of individuals, this novel delves a little bit more into the internal conflicts and challenges riddled in living in a complex society such as the one the author established.

Also as a heads up, I'm not sure if it is harem (I hope it is I love harem) but is tagged as such. Didn't see it quite yet 16 chapters in, so just a heads up to people who dislike harem; this has the potential to be so since the MC is set up to be sort of like a good guy in a bad world.

Rating: 8.6/10. Not perfect and not completely original, but well executed and interesting. The translations from both groups are phenomenal, although I'd give the edge to Arcane. <<less

TLDR: A cyberpunk world with fantasy elements, however, the whole story is a mish mash of multiple different stories the author liked, making a mess of the story. Meaning, slow pacing and filler content. We also have a forced in plot female lead from the get go... if you want to read a similar story to this, but better, I suggest reading Supporting Characters in the Game are Obsessed, note original got translation got taken down from dmca though.

I have a starkly different opinion from the only other review, 5... more>> star jade zero. And frankly, this review below is just mostly bashing it, and saying what he also had right.

First off, this novel is not well written at all. The starting hook to get you into the book were great, making the MC easily likable and relatable, but not the actual story from there.

The cyberpunk is unique, why? Because it also has fantasy elements like magic. But the other settings... oh god, it was just a mish mash of other stories the author liked, such as one piece. We literally have a gangster going: "My treasure is real! Go and find it!" ushering the gang era. This frankly makes no sense, as it's a modern city setting... but thay was just an example. Just a mish mash of elements, together with more whenever the author feels like adding it convulute the story some more.

As I hope you can tell from above, what would you think the world building would be? Well obviously, it's info dump galore unlike what Jade claimed.

But even with this, the starting chap (s) were just so good that it hooked you into the story to attempt to pass off this. But then we have the characters. And my oh my. If you're an avid reader on NU, then you would know by the tldr. Can any novel that forcibly implants an female lead right away be an actual novel with good characters? Because, when I think about it, all I see is cardboard. I'm sure there's some that I have in my reading list that successfully did it, but again, this was very forced, and you can tell.

And btw, it's a harem.

Now, now, even these, you can pass off! Only- if it wasn't for the story writing. The writing, was written in a wish fulfillment jpn isekai style. With an over emphasis on filler and info dump content to bulk up the world settings. This, made the story dull, and in turn, the characters flat. Even the MC, is suffering from this. It doesn't help that he acts against logic. To emphasize how nice our MC is, he does things such as repeatedly giving gifts to the bad kids living with him at the orphanage with his money he spent all day working for, just cause he's op and has an adult mindset.

I usually dislike these stories where the MC is put in another world from a baby, and grows up. The authors tend to just do too much wish fulfillment setups, and these type of authors never actually successfully make and engaging story/plot.

I could yap a bit more but I'm tired of writing.

To leave off, if you want to read a cyberpunk novel with fantasy elements, I highly suggest reading this novel Supporting Characters in the Game are Obsessed. It also has harem, yet somehow successfully written it so it doesn't implode, or at least from where I left off due to original translation taken down from dmca. But one day, I can dream it'll be back. <<less

Supposedly it's cyberpunk, but from the way it's written it's basically another fantasy story with a few more modern technologies.

Guns and explosives replace arrows and some magic (some other magic still exists), but otherwise it's about adventuring in dungeons with megacorporations representing little more than a ruling caste in a feudal or barely pre-feudal society.

The overarching story also mostly deals with fantasy and the supernatural, and there's little direction to what the protagonist is actually doing. He's trying to achieve a "true ending" (still treating the story as a game)... more>> without any direct ambitions or personal motivations beyond helping out the people he coincidentally encounters on the way.

Regarding romantic relationships:

Spoiler

There are signs of a potential harem, but most members may remain platonic, whereas the MC actually entered a real relationship and appears to plan on staying monogamous.

However, for whatever reason and despite the supposedly advanced technology and magic, contraceptives aren't even a consideration and pre-marital interc**rse is supposedly off the table for religious reasons, yet celibacy for religious reasons was enough grounds to not join the Vatican. I just don't understand where they're trying to draw the line between reason and faith.

Putting aside that many such regulations don't seem to stem directly from scripture and even the scripture may not be directly sourced from the goddess, even if the MC has met her and is thus certain that she exists.

[collapse]

I can understand having some faith after encountering a goddess and supposedly living in her grace, but I don't understand abandoning all rational doubt on occasion (not doubt towards the goddess herself which exists or even her direct requests, but doubt towards the rules of her worshippers).

And finally, the goddess has explicitly stopped interfering, so of course the faith would recede. Even expecting otherwise is just strange from my point of view. <<less
