Learning crude martial arts had always made Fourth Miss Zhu the laughingstock of Beijing’s elite families. In their eyes, such skills were fit only for common bodyguards.

Yet Zhu Changle, who considered herself invincible, felt no shame. On the contrary, she took pride in her abilities.

Not everyone could protect their own household, but she could! And exceptionally well at that! She’d even dare to turn the whole of Beijing upside down for the sake of her family’s estate!

Don’t believe it? Just try her!

The FL, Zhu Changle, is the youngest child of an aristocratic family, but she grew up in the martial arts world, wild and valiant, with an uncanny skill at making friends.

"Zhu Changle's whereabouts were no secret in the Capital. When she was young, she was kidnapped while running out to play, and was very fortunately rescued by a passing martial arts expert. Later, the Zhu family actually let their precious daughter follow that female warrior to learn martial arts. For most of these years, she hadn't been in the Capital."

When... more>> her family is demoted and chased relentlessly by assassins en route to an impoverished, faraway Yunbei county, the FL steps up and shows her martial arts skills to protect her family. Only then do her loving family realize how outstanding her martial arts are. As her friends gather around her, she slowly explores the dangerous conspiracies in Yunbei that threaten her family.

As the plot progresses, the FL eventually

levels up, defends her country, unites the martial arts world, and displays her amazing martial arts skills as the greatest General in the empire. Oh, and the ML is worthy of her. He's the mysterious super strong, very quiet, Second Prince Qiu Li who grew up in the martial arts world.

I usually don't like wuxia novels, but I really like the combination of the josei+wuxia+very HE. The FL stays true to character (strong, chivalrous, filial, just, shameless, wild and true to her self, her family and her country) while also showing character development. With one exception, all the good people live, and she has a very happy ending. Unlike the famous saying, in this novel, the heroes have a good ending.

She is the kind of heroine I enjoy the most, similar to the brave, smart and cunning heroine of the interstellar novel, Smash All Pots and Pans To Go to School.

The only part I didn't like was the discovery of

systemic s***** child ab*se by the Japanese ronin/masterless sumarai/Japanese pirates. You can easily skip that part of the story. It starts when she visits the ronin island, and ends a few chapters after. There is no other gendered violence in the story, not even during a long war or foreign occupation. The ronin were already hateful enough for stealing food and people, so it seemed jarring and really unnecessary to add that part into the plot, as if the author just threw in some extreme nationalistic anti-japanese sentiment for the heck of it.

I read the first 6 chapters and then MTL'd the rest (to chapter 715, not sure if there are any epilogue/extra chapters). <<less
