Earth Online – a virtual MMORPG that takes place in the future year of 2190 – a game that everyone will bet their futures on. Set in a map that is ten times the size of real-world Earth, players battle for supremacy in the first game to feature personal adventure, territory construction, and grand warfare. For every death you experience in the game, your level would drop back to zero. Ouyang Shuo, an above average player, suffered the ultimate betrayal. For merely a piece of equipment, his sworn brother betrayed and backstabbed him. This time, after he reincarnated in the game, Ouyang Shuo swore to exact vengeance.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Ouyang Shuo found himself back five years before the betrayal – right before the launch of Earth Online. This time, armed with the knowledge from his past life, Ouyang Shuo would venture upon a new path.

How to perfectly complete quests? What historical battle maps would appear? How should one build up their territory? Utilizing the experience from the predecessors of his last life, Ouyang Shuo makes his bid for the top against all odds. Follow his journey as he seeks to lord over the world!

A different kind of tale that blends historical characters and virtual reality gaming, with heavy emphasis on kingdom building and warfare.

Someone recommended me the earth is online but my dumb self forgot and looked for world online (isn't it the same? No!)

A solid work from Qidian. Pretty good translation, writing itself is pretty coherent.

We get an MC who exhibits character development from just a normal guy who is randomly reborn to slowly become a world power. Make no mistake, the MC is pretty OP as fk. But what really took a toll was how the entire world was against him in the process. This story is basically just fight after fight, war after war strung together with the background of a city/country-building sim. The author pulls out ALL the stops to... more>> make sure the MC is strong but also comes off as incredibly weak by throwing dozens, hundreds of enemies at him at the same time. He's constantly struggling to survive, and even as you think that he can't be buffed anymore he gets tons of enemies that can make everything collapse. Honestly pretty demoralizing. Paused in the last 100 chapters. <<less

I was tempted to read this because I was looking for novels with main tags: Survival x VRMMORPG.
Summary: Earth is about to be destroyed and people had to migrate to a new planet. To facilitate this, the federal gov't developed a VR game called Earth Online. MC, in the first timeline, was betrayed and killed by a friend. When he went back in time, he vowed to use his knowledge about the future to his advantage
Spoiler

(yes, he mostly steals ideas from his previous life and others might not like it but I think it's a reasonable thing to do given his situation. Use everything in your arsenal to your advantage.)

[collapse]
Thus, he plays the game as a lord player and gets ahead of everyone. Just started reading this and I'm not certain if it'll go downhill but you would like this if you're into:

-Territory upgrades/management
-Army/kingdom building
-Survival of the fittest

Cons:

-Romance. Thus far, no matter how much I try, I cannot appreciate the romance in this story.
Spoiler

MC treats all the women around him intimately. Like who tf even goes around and makes everyone his little sisters?? Lol Typical downside of novels in this genre: MC is too attractive to female characters. Too much childish characters too. I don't like the FL also. Nothing sets her apart she's just like a generic character with no specific defining personality. Also, their relationship was too forced. One moment he had a flatmate and they had some sort of spark but author suddenly inserted a woman/ex-classmate out of nowhere and made them date as soon as they met again. It would have been better if there was no romance at all.

[collapse]
-Limited interactions with players. MC is mostly around NPCs and they (NPCs) act almost like the players. Granted, he has a reason for this but other may not enjoy it. I'm one of those who doesn't like it.
-Story revolves more about MC's development in-game and expansion of his territory. This might be boring to some as plot may appear too linear and bland. This, however, is the only aspect I like about the novel and the only reason I'm still reading. I really like territory/kingdom building settings.
-MC isn't too like-able. Sometimes even contradictory. In my POV that is. He's average and bland at best.
-As commonly found in long novels, this story has plenty of questionable events and inconsistencies. Sometimes, useful stuff that had been introduced would be forgotten and things are being mixed up.

For now, this is a 2.5-3.0/5 for me. Depending on how the story develops, I might or might not keep reading.

I already finish reading it. Yeah, pretty much the same as they said, it's quite bland with just interaction with NPCs and just building in the game. But trust me after around 200s chapter it's become better and better while reading up.

Don't let other bad review affects you. They didn't even read half the novel, yet they complained shits.

If you love kingdom building, politics, schemes, wars and true rise from zero to EMPEROR, this if for you.

People complained the novel is racist. I mean, nothing wrong why how author wrote it. Of course he made china as if the best in the world, hey as if you never see western's drama. Nothing wrong for people being patriotic.

You might turn off because of how MC is reincarnated. Worry not, his past won't... more>> matter after awhile.

Yes the world turns into little bit to fantasy. But mainly it is because to prepare players for their future adventure. Real life.

So far, this is my favourite.

Spoiler

I wish author extend a bit about MC lands on the new world. I want to know what happen. Or at least put some summaries.

First, I loved this book.I thought it was great.I completed this book. Then, after 2 years, I read this book again. Now, Ifound many fault. First, Battle of Mobei. Well, the nomadic Xiongnu Federation is quite weak. Then, the Chinese Supremacy. The quite weak Barbarians. One dimensional characters. Well, the empires are the most shitty thing I have seen. Roman Empire is here. But where is Carthage and Sassanid Empire?Archemanid Empire and Parthian Empire. Where is Sythia, Sarmatia, Xiongnu, Kushan Empire, Xianbei, Hephthalite Empire, Hunnic Empire. Well, Xiongnu is seen... more>> in the Battle of Mobei event. But, most not anywhere. Well, now to the Islamic civilizations. Its not Arabic Empire and Ottoman as far as my memory knows. If there is Iskamic Civilization it should be Rashidun Caliphate, Umayyad Caliphate, Abbasid Caliphate, Seljuq Turk, Fatimid Caliphate, Mamluk Sultanate etc. Now, another very hard fact is that there are too many empires and confederation in the history of humans. But, little area for every empire and federation to appear in the same time. You have to know its almost 5000 years of history of empires. So, the idea of every or most empire and federation is very shaky. Quite unique idea, but lack of knowledge. Like, Gupta Dynasty for idea. Where is Mughal Empire, Delhi Sultanate, Kushan Empire and minor empires in Indian Subcontinent like Bengal Subedar. Again, where is Macedonian Empire. Alsp, there is so many top grade general and mimistrs in China. Other countries small so not many top grade generals and ministers. There are many top grade generals in the history of a country. Like, in soain there should be more than just 1 top grade general. Confucius is great top thinker. Top grade npc. Then, Ibn Khaldun or Ibn Sena (Aviccena) and other prospective top grade npc's cannot be seen in. The novel became bleak because of its unthinkable messiness in trying to get every empire and federation in a single novel. So, many empires were not present. Which made the novel very disappointing.I think, its due to the writers lack of knowledge of history. But, its impossible to know about every empire, federation, tribe. If I want to talk, it will be endless.I rate it 1 star and wish fulfilling.

P.S. Its my first review. Sorry, for typing mistakes and any mistakes in this review. <<less

Completely finished the novel, the novel is extremely detailed and has a expansive world which you can delve into, story circles around a male protagonist whom reincarnates 5 years before the start of eartha migration and the game world (World Online) it's mainly a territory / kingdom building novel with cultivation and a sub romance plot

Overall for kingdom building and politics 8/10 (would of been a 9 but from chapter 800+ story is a little bit rushed)

Cultivation wise 5/ 10 should of been more expansive and should of had... more>> been included more (but it's a realistic cultivation system based on genes and has logic towards it) The cultivation system isnt overpowered it's not like with a wave of a hand 100s of people dead. It mainly focuses on combat ability which is believable I.e like can face multiple elites at the same time

For romance... not much is shown and is kinda forced in the beginning like you would imagine the love would be between the 2 flatmates but no the author pushes a random character from their past school and they fall in love the first momment.

Overall great novel. I just wished it still continued. <<less

It's not 100 %, but for such a mamoth of a work I'll give it high score.

It has interesting concept.

It plotted the story really well.

... more>> Yes, it was simplified in places but if the story was more detailed and complicated, it would be dry historical game of guess, not entertaining story. So there is that.

I am not familiar with history of China and other eastern countries so I can't say anything about accuracy of that. But it sounded legit for me (even if biased toward China) and fullfiled the fun aspect that the story should have so it was ok.

The biggest plus is MC and his views. He was modern man, had good head on his shoulders, wasn't racist (just biased. But what author wouldn't be?) and his opinions about women were gold, especially in CN. He truly respected them.
Spoiler

Even though he was basically chinese emperor, he had just one wife. Real loyalty and monogamy. This was the best thing ever and I truthfully wasn't expecting that. Because emperor and ancient China.

[collapse]
He was caring and diligent about his family too. That was amazing.

The translation quality was pretty much top notch. That had to be such a pain in ***. My respect to the translators.

When one gloss over the Chinese supremacy undertones in the story, occasional tiny plot holes and slight deux ex machina from time to time, when one takes it as purely entertainment, it was fun. ^^ <<less

I don't know why many don't like the novel, bro this novel about strategic development of the kingdom, not about being assassin's and making guilds and becoming famous like the blackfire of zeroWing or rebirth of thief Who has the same storyline

And I learned a lot of Chinese history from this novel, apart from the three kingdoms and the great dynasties also about war or events discussed in detail.

Utterly boring. I thought it would be similar to other second chance tags where the main character go back to the start of a popular game and with his past life knowledge he dominates the game. But it was a very slow paced and boring. I really tried to read more in case it picks up but I gave up around chapter 38.

And the synopsis was he gets betrayed but a friend I was waiting for other player introductions but they only mention the 6 kings or whatever. The main... more>> character doesn't even talk to any game players. ? And he also mentions hes playing the game to have his sister be the 'princess' of the game. But for me whats the point the girls like 10 goes to school I don't see the point. Its to flatter his big brother ego.

Maybe future readers can reach the point real action happenes but I've dropped this. <<less

Recommended??? : uh...... Maybe

DNF @ Chapter 1049

I enjoyed this novel but I'm not going to finish it.

... more>> Why, you ask? I'm not interested in the ending.

Why again? Because for the past 1049 chapters, I already saw the MCs capability, his growth, skills, and his rise to the top. At this point, I believe that no matter the problems and trials he faces, he'll somehow make it work. He's so f*cking strong already, so nah. I lost the desire to see the end. Also, hell, his minions are waaaaaaaay too many to remember at this point. Too many 1D side characters and roles. I get dizzy just trying to match names with their char and roles.

Still, while I was reading the novel, I was engrossed and enjoyed it enough. I didn't encounter too many problems that I can't stomach so overall, it left me with a positive impression.

Definitely one of the more decent xianxia reads among the thousands. <<less

This is a really good novel when things are actually happening. The kingdom building, the mechanics, the vr world itself, the history, etc but it has one massive problem and that is info dumps/setups. The later you go in the story the more awesome things that you see but you also get a what feels that 10-20 chapters of filler arc at a time where he does nothing but go to x building to do something, talk to y person, go visit someone far away which takes 5 chapters on... more>> the journey to even get there it's ridiculous. I love the novel but I just get burnt out when it goes from interesting action to 30 chapters of him just talking/traveling/doing nothing. <<less

This is my first comment on this novel! I waited to read everything until the last chapters were updated before posting a comment. I LOVE this novel, I find that the story covers a lot of aspect and all this makes it pleasant to read (I admit that the chapters explaining the reorganization of some things are long but good it's still pleasant). The little extra and that this novel also allowed me to discover some characters in the story (which I saw more than after some chapters, I enjoyed... more>> reading their Wikipedia page for some character). Thanks to the translators for us to discover this novel !!

ps: Sorry if have made a mistake in my english. It's not my first language <<less

Tough novel to review. Things I like about the novel:

  1. World building... literally, MC builds an empire from scratch in a VR world. Like that.
  2. Focus on strategy over individual fighting prowess
  3. Has social aspects, gives it that MMO feel
  4. Fast translation rate
  5. Decent translation quality
Things I dislike:

  1. Massive info dumps
  2. The bullcrap stuff with the little sister (sister's interaction with the system, her luck, and so on)
  3. Repetition
  4. World building is too in depth, becomes hard to keep track of characters if you aren't familiar with famous figures from Chinese history
  5. MC's allies are a little too useless, basically there to make up the numbers and rely on MC for everything else

Personally I'm not too into country building type stories, but this one is actually quite good.

it has solid foundation and system, moreover they're developed quite well. There's also this sense of achievement whenever the MC succeed on something.

As for the biggest flaw, I should say it's the sickening amount of monologue (to the point I skimmed most of it). There's barely any dialogue here, and most of the dialogues are the MC ordering around, the clattering mobs, or the scheming enemies.

Good story that focuses on worldbuilding and kingdom management. One downside would be the little to no tension; if there's a problem, you can bet the world will bend over backwards to solve it for the MC within five or so chapters. Despite his supposedly low luck, basically any disadvantage and missed opportunity will come back and help him instead.

And I do have a bone to pick with the MC's actions:

Spoiler

Seriously, how hard is it to kill an enemy BOSS? Farrah was right there, literally at spearpoint (c646), and you let him go. Now he's the Pirate King and a huge pain in the ass. Good job, MC. "Since it was an exchange, Ouyang Shuo needed to keep his promise, " hah. I didn't see you caring about sparing the enemy 400 chapters ago when you killed that king on the battle map to recruit that philosopher.

And this isn't a once or twice thing, either. He regularly goes on killing sprees of mooks, then allows players to escape basically unharmed. Even if they don't die, they'll be massively inconvenienced by being kicked right down to LVL 1 again. If you have a quote-unquote "massive ambition" (hoo boy another thing I have problems with but this is getting long already) and want to take over the world you can't let enemies escape like this. It's called 'the one who got away', and they tend to beat you the next time 'round because they know how you fight. Don't do it. MC even knows that it's like "releasing a tiger back into the mountains." YOU HAVE LITERAL NINJA ASSASSINS AND AN INTEL NETWORK THAT SPANS BASICALLY THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OF CHINA. USE THEM.

And if you want a friendly relationship for trading or whatever, don't start wars, doofus. It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't give them a reason to hate you.

It's a good read, a lot of kingdom building elements.

The only issue I have with it is that the MC is too unrealistic.

The author tries to make him look really good and adds a few negative traits to balance it out.

But it creates a situation where the MC is intelligent but makes really really really dumb mistakes

It's overall a nice novel. The only downside was that we can't see the effect of territorial buff from NPC/Item Skill.

Also, the MC is too cunning and experienced as a Lord, despite being reincarnated from a mere adventurer.

Pretty bland I must say about this novel. Eventhough the translation is good, the story too plain without event that brings excitement to readers. The only good things are building kingdom concept that makes it different from other VR novels and MC character kind of more developed, though other characters just come and gone. Till ch 27 that I read all MC does is built things and relationship with NPC in his village. Even real character that he engage in conversation and are not NPC only his sister and one... more>> girl who is his housemate. <<less

Hated it. This novel is just the usual bare minimum self fulfillment we all know and that’s scattered on the site.

Literally, it’s the daily life of a lucky Clash of Clans player. Clash of clans is a building mobile game where you build town halls, units, weapons for your city, etc. For those who don’t know what it is.

Basic characters, villians, allies, bullsh*t luck, it’s just so easy for him. There’s no challenge or end goal.

If you wanna read a novel where the MC plays a terrible 1/5 game with... more>> flat characters that have no change, be my guest. <<less
