Earth Online – a virtual MMORPG that takes place in the future year of 2190 – a game that everyone will bet their futures on. Set in a map that is ten times the size of real-world Earth, players battle for supremacy in the first game to feature personal adventure, territory construction, and grand warfare. For every death you experience in the game, your level would drop back to zero. Ouyang Shuo, an above average player, suffered the ultimate betrayal. For merely a piece of equipment, his sworn brother betrayed and backstabbed him. This time, after he reincarnated in the game, Ouyang Shuo swore to exact vengeance.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Ouyang Shuo found himself back five years before the betrayal – right before the launch of Earth Online. This time, armed with the knowledge from his past life, Ouyang Shuo would venture upon a new path.

How to perfectly complete quests? What historical battle maps would appear? How should one build up their territory? Utilizing the experience from the predecessors of his last life, Ouyang Shuo makes his bid for the top against all odds. Follow his journey as he seeks to lord over the world!

A different kind of tale that blends historical characters and virtual reality gaming, with heavy emphasis on kingdom building and warfare.

My first review on NU. This novel has potential to grow more. Good translation. Good MC. Good story building.

It's rare to see a novel about a reasonable plot. Although there's a lot of luck and reincarnation to make the MC very powerful. Unlike others novel with super thick plot armor. And I like the story about building kingdoms with reincarnation advantage. I hate to see a MC with godlike knowledge and ability. At least he's need to depend on other people. Plus I hate harem

I would give a 4.5 for this novel.

Reason being that the novel is well written en the kingdom building aspect is very extensive. But that being said, the novel is quite slow to develop and if you don't like kingdom building, then this novel is not for you. If you do like kingdom building novels...... oh baby

I love this novel!

It's got a good idea and the author executes it very good.
- Game Elements? Check!
- Time Travel? Check!
- Kingdom Building and Army Building? Double Check!

There are almost no translation mistakes, if you don't count the ones that happen when an error happens.
I recommend this to everyone and even if you don't like it, give it a go.

Despite its flaws, I can say that its kind of enjoyable. This story focuses a lot more on the city building stuff and a wars later on, so If you enjoy reading about that go ahead.

Characters 2/5

The characters are utterly boring to read. They're just bland, so, you know, its not unlike any other web novels. The authors dumps so many names on you that you wont remember any of them.

... more>> Style 3/5

If you've read a lot of cn novels, its practically the same. But TWO has a lot less arrogant idiots running the show, so there's that. Sure they have one or two, but they're believable.

Story 3.5/5

TWO focuses a lot on the city building aspect that you'll practically get bored reading how he'll reorganize the goverment/military every 10 chapters or so.

Lately, there's a lot of wars thats really interesting, so theres that.

The author injects a lot of ancient chinese history. Paragraphs worth of names that I really can't bother to remember, or read.

Translation 4/5

A lot of minor errors, but still a great readable translation. <<less

This is a pretty good novel. It takes some time for it to really get going. By 20 chapters I was interested, by 50 I was starting to really enjoy it, and by 100 I was hooked. I wouldn't say it does anything incredibly uniquely good, but it does very little poorly. I'd say everything about it is 3-5 star quality. My biggest gripe with these kind of novels is how boring most of the antagonists are, thankfully Di Chen at least gets some good growth.

I don't usually write reviews but I will for this one. This is the best Kingdom building/war type novel I've read to date, my only complaint is having to wait for the chapters to be translated lol. I don't find the MC too overpowered like in most novels even with him being sent back in time to start over. He has some knowledge of what's going to happen but with the nature of the game every change he makes can or does lead to unexpected changes. Over all I highly... more>> recommend this novel to anyone who loves Kingdom building, War, and VR MMO style novels. <<less

Great book, only issue I had with it was all the names being hard to remember... names of famous generals, civil servants, people, random regions, etc. make it quite hard to remember them. Other than that it's an amazing book and is a must read for anyone who enjoys kingdom building novels~

A really nice kingdom building novel, frequent updates, good translation

Wanted to give it a 5 Star, but I can never click on it correctly (why cant we change our vote? or how to change it?)

The only nevative, are all the names. Ahhhg I’m often lost there, names of provinces, towns, players and historical figures... but if you just ignore it - the plot is great.

Time Travel + Virtual Reality novel that quite interesting to read, you can own any historical character as you want, but it depend on Fate Luck and Effort, when different historical character from different kind of periode and age meeting and clashed, you can feel and imagine your self, that it will be interesting.

Because the MC are Chinese, so Chinese Historical Character will be often come out, but there will be a time that this Chinese Historical will be facing invader from other continent and nation or maybe invade other... more>> continent and nation and you can imagine a clash between those great charakter and players across the world. <<less

This can be really fun to read if you enjoy management, history and war with detailed reports of each strategy used. For the most part it's like you are reading a diary of everything that happened at certain dates.

The dialogue is in my opinion one of the weakest points, at times feeling very cringe. But the worst is when the author goes with phrases such as "he gave an excellent, awe inspiring speech" but doesn't bother actually writing such. Many scenes and interaction that had potential are just brushed off... more>> like this.

That's why I'm giving 3 stars, it's ok and fun to pass the time. <<less

For world building, this is a pretty good story. Very entertaining, fairly well thought out, rebirth story. Some good action, mostly though slice-of-life, with a lot of detailed world building. Which while good, becomes burdensome at times. Particularly when the author is walking us through assigning responsibilities to many different people. Can we even remember all these side characters names, and their current responsibilities?

Overall, I recommend it, but you really need to power through it, rather then read it chapter by chapter, only way you'll be able to remember who... more>> is who. <<less

In my opinion the one that give one star doesn't appreciate the author. After all the author of this story tried to incorporate many historical events and important people of China history into story. That alone worth at least a bit more respect. But than again everyone can have their own opinion.

Those who say MC use plot armor and luck in a way kinda true, but I think nearly every other story relay on plot armor and luck to move the story.

The one thing I like about this story is... more>> despite being reborn he still make mistakes here and there, big and small. <<less

Alright so this review is to counterbalance some of the hate this is getting.

First off all the people comp paining about him having "foreknowledge" from his past life, if you read further you'd realize he has basically lost this "compensation" as he rarely knows what is next now. Remember he was a adventure player not a Lord plus the game hadn't even been near finishing so there will be plenty of situations where he is as clueless as the next guy.

Second, yes. Ouyang is a bit average but that's the... more>> point. He is a guy who got lucky that wants to ensure a decent life for him and his family by trying his hardest as a Lord. He isn't trying to be the most powerful, skilled, richest, well hung player. He gets some of that yes, but it isn't always gonna be Spirit Wine and Pheonix ribs. He has his moments of distress.

Spoiler

For example right now where I am in the story he has 2 nearby enemies that will likely cause him major damages. Gathered barbarians and the dipwad he is raising like a poisonous insect

[collapse]

Also he is having trouble as he is realizing just how his job as a Lord is affecting his familial relations as well as his freedoms.

TLDR: If you enjoy stories about more realistic humans, historical Chinese figures, games, and dynasty building focused around interpersonal relationships, then this is a really good one to read. It's one of the first things I read every morning, get the 2 chapters each day out of the way then wait for the next two the next morning. <<less

Between all the novels that has second chances and VRMMORPGs, this novel stands out because the Earth Online game depicted in it is excellent and the world setting is good. But oh boy you have to slog out through over 100 chapters of nation-building before this novel actually get interesting when PvP started at the Yellow Emperor arc. If not for the things I mentioned in the first sentence, I would not have lasted 20 chapters of this novel.

There is also crappy romance here, and sometimes the unnatural amount of... more>> luck he has in some scenes in the nation-building phase also grates me. This novel needs more PvP and more bad luck for MC. And maybe, MC should also ditch the trophy girlfriend if she doesn't allow harem. Yes, this is a rare novel where harem is desirable. <<less

This is a great novel with a more unique storyline than the usual vr mmorpg games. A lota focus on kingdom building and with a touch of romance/female leads here and there, maybe a bit too much but doesnt negativity effect the story too much.

It feels as if the early parts of this story was based on the game, Civilisation VI and I quite like the game so its another +1 for me. The story progresses quite quickly and flows nicely.

The translations are very quick, however theres a few minor... more>> errors and inconsistencies here and there but nothing major. <<less

Boring, boring, boring, too damn boring. The problem is the game is too realistic. Who cares about village establishment, privatization, distribution of lands... etc.

Spoiler

I don't get the Chinese obsession of dead people. The absurd degree of veneration of said dead farts is laughable.

I laughed so hard when the MC referred to Confucius as "Saint" grade! I wonder if that game had someone like Alexander the Great, or Saladin, what grade would they have been them? SSS "Saint"? LMAO!!!

Exploring 'The World Online': A Rollercoaster of Characters

So, I stumbled upon this Chinese novel called "The World Online" by Sheng Xiao Jian Ke. I was honestly tired of all the wuxia and xianxia stuff, so I thought, why not give this one a shot? Turns out, it's got this cool Kingdom Building or Territorial Management thing going on, just like the Total War Games and Paradox Games I love.

Alright, here's the deal with this novel. It's about this dude who gets reincarnated and uses his past knowledge to build up... more>> his empire and become super powerful. Sounds pretty epic, right?

Now, let me tell you, the author of this novel deserves a medal for keeping track of all those character names. Seriously, it's mind-blowing. But here's the thing, with so many characters running around, the depth kinda takes a hit. It's like they're all fighting for attention, and some of them end up feeling a bit flat.

So, "The World Online" is a mixed bag, just like most novels out there. No wonder it only had 4 ratings on NU when I read it. For me, it was an okay read, but the ending felt rushed, you know?

I'd give this novel a solid 3 stars on NU. If we're talking a 100-point scale, it's probably around a 70. Not bad, not amazing, just somewhere in the middle. <<less
