The Illegitimate Child of the Marquis of Estelle.

The Shame of Bahamur’s Social Circles.

Lotus Estelle.

Her precarious life, akin to walking a tightrope, came crashing down after hearing the knife-like words of the one she loved.

Unable to bear it any longer, she took her own life. But when she opened her eyes, she had returned to being seventeen years old.

This time, I won’t give my heart to anyone.

I’ll live quietly and marry whoever the family tells me to.

But something was strange.

Her once indifferent family and the people around her had suddenly grown kind.

Even the men tied to her past began approaching her in ways that were completely different from before…

“Why is everyone acting like this toward me?”

Unfortunately, this is not for me. The narration is rather bland and monotonous, dryly describing how the FL was ostracized because of her illegitimacy and chose to seek comfort in the intimacy of other men (which, honestly, is fair). What made me raise my eyebrow was when the FL overheard the guy she had an unrequited love for expressing distaste for her s*xual habits and became heartbroken... and chose to take her own life?!! WHAT? Are you kidding me? I thought it was refreshing that FL chose to disregard how... more>> society thought of her and did things her way, but never mind, seems like she's another doormat who needs the validation of a man...

(Since all this is revealed at the start, I don't consider it a spoiler. And as I've only read a few chapters, I decided not to rate this, because who knows, maybe I would be proven wrong dozens of chapters down the road and she would get character development. But I don't feel like sticking around long enough to find out.) <<less

I'm only 8 chapters in at the time of writing but want to expand on selprenal's review.

The first chapter is indeed quite cold and detached and I believe that's on purpose as it's a narration of the events that led to the current situation. Think of it like the scrolling text in Star Wars, simply meant to get you up to speed before the story really begins.

As for her decision to take her own life, that wasn't because she was heartbroken, the girl was very much already emotionally damaged and... more>> chose to "control men as a powerful woman of the night" and when she overheard the famously kindhearted man say "she's beautiful but is too distasteful" she realized that if he, as kindhearted and polite as everyone knows he is, thinks that lowly of her then what does everyone else think? And she realized that even her last ditch effort to stand up against her fate only served to push her further down.

Anyway, after the first 4 chapters we get into the family POVs and things really get good. The fact that no one can talk about the dream they had and she is returned with her determination to die creates an interesting dynamic I've only seen in The Duke's Daughter Has a Death Wish. This story is really good so far. I hope it keeps up the trend of her being unapologetically standoff-ish as her family tries to make amends. <<less
